Evening Ed002.

Heard today we were in for Watkins, load of nonsense? Also, have we approached Newcastle again for Gordon?

Cheers
Drogie.

{Ed002's Note - Ollie Watkins (S) Agent is looking for options and has spoken with Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. Aston Villa want a new contract.

Anthony Gordon (LW/F) I find it very surprising that Liverpool have indeed enquired after Gordon as an option ahead of others they have been considering as a Luiz replacement including Federico Chiesa. Newcastle are open to a sale as the player is pushing for the move - in a similar way when he left Everton, but they will look to scalp a buyer. After an initial offer was rejected, Liverpool have returned for further discussion but want the price to drop and to include a player in the deal. Although Kelleher as been mentioned, Newcastle have signed Vlachodimos. Their desire for Quansah was rejected by Liverpool who have now offered Joe Gomez. Newcastle would likely accept a £70M cash deal, or lesser cash if agreement could be reached with a player and both sides. Liverpool would be willing to include any fringe player or any player they are willing to sell. It is possible. A wildcard option would be Manchetser City but they would have to find a buyer for Jack Grealish who they would likely have to take a significant loss on.}

Would make absolutely no sense. Villa will ask stupid money for him as he’s on a long contract (til 2028), they are in the champions league and there’s the additional “English tax”, add to that the fact that he’ll be 29 in December, there’s simply no point paying over the odds for a player that old.

Not sure I would straight swap Gomez for Gordon. Would they be interested in Nat Phillip?

I’m sure I’ve read the same thing somewhere about 4 or 5 times.

Hopefully that will get the Gordon deal done Ed002. Newcastle get a decent RB/ CB who improves their squad, we get a very good LW/ CF who improves our squad. Win win.

Well if we are offering all our center backs left right and center to other teams that means we are brining in more than one center back.

Eds, if Liverpool are looking for a striker is Toney a possibility? His contract is running down next year.

{Ed002's Note - No.}

Absolutely baffling that we would rather pay 50 million more for Gordon than Chiesa. I would actually prefer we keep Diaz than buy Gordon but appreciate our hand may be forced. Nonetheless there must be better options than Gordon - I’d even prefer Harvey Barnes from Newcastle if he could stay fit.

Poor signing and likely using a significant part of our budget to get it over the line.

We would then also need to replace Gomez and doubt we could get a better squad player than him.

Ed,
Are you aware of the amount of money offered along with Gomez? Or what both clubs value him at?
Thanks!

{Ed002's Note - They want £70M.}

£45-50m cash plus Gomez should do it so, that's assuming Gomez wants Newcastle and they want him obviously. Sad to see Joe go but I think the timing is right for everyone.

Or sell gomez for 25 - 30m and spend 50m on nico williams release clause? . Not against Gordon but I'd try Williams first, I'd also pick up olmo too if possible and sell jota.

Phillips is nowhere near good enough for Newcastle.

This is crazy talk, Joe Gomez is homegrown, cracking player and versatile he can play anywhere across the back four. He would be super hard to replace and he would be a huge loss to the squad. Mad so many are happy to see him used as a make weight.
