Well, these comments from Van Dijk are a little disconcerting. It sounds like he is going to use the time off to evaluate his future, both at club level and international level. At 33, having won everything to win at club level, it would not be too surprising to see him want one final chapter elsewhere.

I'm not sure who could afford him, and I am unsure if he would opt to join a Saudi team for the money, or a European team for the competition and chance to win major honours. It would be one massive headache to replace him, though, as I think we all wanted a centre back signing even with Van Dijk at the club.

This feels like we might be in for a big transfer window, not by intention but due to circumstances. I hope we have a plan in place, talk about throwing Richard Hughes and the new leadership group into the fire.

Fingers crossed this gets sorted in such a way that all parties are satisfied, but more so Liverpool :P.

{Ed002's Note - Virgil van Dijk (CB) I am told that van Dijk's agents have said that they had approaches from both Real Madrid and Barcelona. Real Madrid see VvD as a low cost solution in terms of transfer fee but need to make space in the wage structure. Barcelona offer an option but will need to agree sales first. At this point in time it will be very general enquiries only and I doubt either club will move for him. There is however interest from Michael Emanalo on behalf of Al-Nassr. Liverpool need to make a decision about a new contract as a matter of urgency but I would expect him to stay.}

He had just lost his, probably, last chance to win anything with Holland, on top of an emotionally draining season with us. I wouldn't take everything he said to heart.

A bit premature to be hanging the flags at half mast.

Get rid of him. In my opinion he's become very arrogant the past couple of years and basically up his own backside. He needs replacing sooner or or later, let's do it sooner.

Are you serious? Last year he surprised us all and played and led like a skipper, trolls abound on this site.

I love the guy. But could anyone really have a problem with him if he had the chance to join Real Madrid for a couple of years?

I respect the man and if he left I wouldn't have a problem with it.

To be fair Patrick burgher he disappeared when we really needed him.

Contract and age aside why do RM think he would be cheap? For the majority of last season he was level with Saliba as best CB in the league. Even at 32 and 1y left on contract I'd still expect £50M for him.

Real or Barcelona on a free makes most sense for the player, and who could blame him. We've had the best of him-wish him and his family the very best, whatever they decide to do.
VVD, the greatest since Sami.

He has a right to be arrogant, he’s earned it and he’s shown it.

When he leaves, he’ll justifiably be regarded as a legend.

He was a major part of the transition from good team to winners. Virgil and Becker.

{Ed025's Note - arrogance is never a good look Ron, confidence yes..

If you can back it up Ed025, then there’s no issue.

Misplaced arrogance is the problem in my opinion.

Ronaldo is arrogant, but he can justify it so that’s ok with me.

{Ed025's Note - really Ron?, not for me mate im afraid, i played against some cricketers who were arrogant in my time and they had very few friends, maybe they loved themselves that much that they never needed anyone else but i cant stand them..

Hi ed. today we have read news that liverpool was linked to Bremer of juventus. Is he a new center back list that liverpool looking up to besides hancko, pacho and lenny yoro?
Appreciate if you can share update on defender shortlist just like you have share previously about DM player.
Thanks ed and have a great day.

{Ed002's Note - Gleison Bremer (CB) Juventus do not want to sell and the player wishes to stay but the club need to raise funds which has led to his representatives testing the waters with Manchester United, Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea to see if there is interest. He may well emerge as a first choice target for Spurs and Manchester United but Chelsea has a preferred option, but could turn to him as the are struggling to sign their primamry targets. Will cost perhaps €80M with no buyout clause until next season.}

For me vvd has been thee crucial player during the klopp era. Nothing happens without his signing imo, a colossus for us for many years. from 17/ 18 til his injury he best cb ever I seen anywhere and that not because he lfc player. he almost like 1 man defence at time, periods around then that gomez and matip played with him they looked like world class players, which with all due respect to them in hindsight they weren't, I think that Down to vvd playing alongside them.
Whenever we do have to replace vvd, which is coming 1 way r another, we will have some job to do.

Here we go more nonsense. He was terrific last season a true leader. We need all the confidence we can get at the minute.

Be better if VVD styed as we transition to Slot.

Also I’d have expected him to be re-evaluating his career this summer. Feels like a natural thing to do after a major tournament and at this stage of his career.
