Ed002, i went back and looked at your overview from January. Quite a few listed as possible if Salah left such as Dembele, Doku, Asensio, Bowen, Diaby and Sarr. I'm not sure any of them would be well recieved universally as a Salah replacement but i do think Bowen would be the best from the players you listed. I actually like Bowen. 23 goal contributions this season is behind only Diaz and Salah in our squad.

My question for you is who in Europe do you think would actually be interested in Salah and what sort of transfer fee do you think he'd go for if he won't sign a new deal and is sold? I saw you rule out PSG and Man City so I'd assume Real Madrid or Juventus are most likely destinations? I think he'd still be worth around €90m but you are far more knowledgeable on this stuff.

Not after a factual answer as you can't predict the future, just your subjective opinion.

{Ed002's Note - Mo Salah (RW) I suspect the contract situation is made complicated because of his prior expectation to be the post-Ronaldo poster boy at Real Madrid - and he might of been if the financial expectations were more reasonable. Approaching 30 he might now be thinking that opportunity has gone for good and his "agent" might will be pressing for a huge deal in terms of money and length of contract that would not suit Liverpool - hence there being no agreement so far. I would not completely discount Barcelona as an option but it would require at least one player in exchange and he knows that Real Madrid have a much preferred target in Mbappe, but unless that can be resolved for this summer, they could listen to his agent and perhaps make an offer. Juventus seem unlikely and PSG have other targets in mind. Inter need to replace Sanches and Perisic and are better placed than most in respect of wages. No clubs would want to spend too much on a transfer fee.}

If we don’t get a massive fee for Salah may as well keep him.

I feel we're privileged to get some of this inside scoop from Ed002, and honestly, the knowledge from the Ed that Salah has been on sale for 2 or 3 years now has really helped me to "move on" mentally from this current situation and just take everything I can get from Salah until such a time when he's no longer a Liverpool player.

Thanks for all the updates over the years, 002. I just wished Salah and his crew would show some decency and respect to the club and fans no matter how much they think they deserve this pay day!

YNWA.

{Ed002's Note - The problem might be around missed opportunities for the player. For the club, the paradigm is replacement and moving forward against significant cost and a player getting older.}

Ed002 could you see Inter paying more in wages than we would offer. Was they not in trouble last summer so bad that they had to sell players and Conte left because of it.
Surly Mo would not leave us for Inter that’s a massive step back to be fair Liverpool City and Chelsea are miles ahead of the rest only Bayern come close even Real it’s only the name at the minute.
If he leaves to them some of the teams mentioned then it’s only money and I thought more of Salah it’s not as if his going to be on National minimal wage.

{Ed002's Note - The tax laws are very different in Italy and they are well placed to deal with wage issues.}

ed2 - how come you put agent in inverted commas - "agent" -?

No way in hell are we getting a massive fee for Salah. Economic climate, his age, length of remaining contract all count against it. £50-60m max. Not sure how you replace a 20+ goal a season player from that.

Certainly none of Dembele, Doku, Asensio, Bowen, Diaby or Sarr are suitable like for like replacements for multiple reasons to numerous to go through (particularly Dembele, Asensio and Doku) .

No like for like replacement because Salah is an elite player. We need to sign the right player to replace if he leaves. The only choice is signing a player level below Salah and develop him to elite level. If you expect a like for like replacement it will end in tears. there's maybe 5 players at his level in the world.

Age is relative with certain players. Salah doesn't touch alcohol and has an incredible discipline with his approach to diet and training. Talk of fees in the range of 120-150M GBP are off the mark, but I feel like we could possibly get 70-80M for him despite his age.
