Do you still see us signing Carvalho this week on a Pre-Agreement? Some journalists seem to think it is possible that we can still seal the deal for him to move in July that would guarantee Fulham a fee and we won't have to go to a tribunal.

{Ed002's Note - No, Liverpool cannot sign a pre-agreement before the end of the season.}

Can we agree a deal, e. g as we have now but not officially go through and sign till the summer?

{Ed002's Note - No, he cannot sign a pre-contract with Liverpool. The rules are very clear.}

*with a fee for Fulham.

As I have understood the rules, the issue is that he can enter talks with foreign clubs (Dortmunt etc) 6 months before his contract ends, but english clubs can not legally discuss terms more than one month before his contract runs out.

{Ed002's Note - Yes.}

I'm really sorry for my ignorance on the matter Ed but is it not possible for us to bid for carvalho and then speak with the player? I thought the transfer window being closed didn't prohibit offers and contracts being discussed?

Sorry again I know you must get plagued with the same questions over and over!

{Ed002's Note - Yes, you misunderstand. There can be no agreements or discussions unless the clubs involved are from outside of England orWales.. I have answered this several times.}

Yeah that's what I was meaning Westwood!

Cheers for the info Ed, disappointed not to get the transfer over the line but I do hope we act within the rules and get him in the summer. However I think he could have signed a a german/ Spanish club by that stage!

Ed I think what the other guys are trying to say is we are going to have to agree a compensation fee with Fulham or go to a tribunal due to his age. It does seem like a ridiculous technicality that we could have talked to Fulham about it a few hours ago but now we can't.

It is just another case of English football cutting its nose off to spite its face, giving foreign clubs the advantage in player negotiations. Every other major footballing country allows players in the final 6 months of their contract to negotiate with whichever club they like. Liverpool aren't even in the same league as Fulham so it's not like there would be a conflict of interest in the league. Sorry for venting but the rules are ridiculous. I don't expect them to change soon because English football has always been reluctant to change. It took us decades of petitioning to get a winter break. I'd love to see us get rid of FA Cup replays and 2 domestic knockout tournaments as well but I won't hold my breath.

Does anybody know exactly why it the transfer didn't go through, I thought the necko deal would have sweetened the pot for Fulham.

So the moves we have seen from Spain and Germany these last years, with purchases done in February to April where the actual transfer won't happen until the window opens again are not possible between English clubs?

But English can do that with International transfers? i. e. if Liverpool were to buy Bellingham now for a transfer July 1st?

I am sure you've covered this before, but if this is impossible within the English league system, the difference between the countries are crazy and impossible to keep track off!

{Ed002's Note - No, there is no way for Liverpool to cheat the rules. It is simple.}

I think the transfer was done and dusted and the paperwork was all in order.

The issue was that the loaning of Carvalho back to Fulham required separate paperwork outside of the transfer paperwork and this wasn’t completed.

As Fulham made it a condition of proceeding with the transfer that the lad was loaned back for the rest of the season the transfer didn’t proceed.

That seems to be what the more sensible elements of the press are saying, although I stand to be corrected.

I wouldn’t put it past Ward and Edwards for this to have been part of the plan. Agree a deal late in the day, with little time to push through which makes a statement to the player we really wanted him. Also when Fulham agreed to our offer we would have been allowed to speak to Carvalho’s family on terms of the deal - player sets his heart on a move to us. Neco Williams sweetens the deal for Fulham putting us a bit more in their favour too.

Come May when we can speak to him we have a player who has his heart set on us so hopefully spurs other advances, won’t need to go to tribunal as we have already agreed a max fee already which Fulham we’re happy with and we could prob negotiate for us to get him slightly cheaper given Neco loan and as not 6 months left in his contract.

Maybe I have overthought this a little too much though 🤣🤣.

It's all in the lads hands now. If he wants to play for Liverpool and Klopp as rumours say. He will wait and sign. If money talks in his head he will go to Spain or Germany. We will see. Let's now enjoy the rest of the season, let's enjoy our new lad Diaz and hopefully by the end of the season we I'll celebrate a trophy or two or even more hopefully. And let's all hope for a Salah deal!
