Hi Eds, I'm trying to work out how these transfers work, a few years ago we were prepared to spend a small fortune on Asensio, but now he's come down to a reasonable price we're not interested. What's happened? Has the player got worse?

{Ed002's Note - Marco Asensio (RW/LW) Goals have largely dried up and his representative is working with a third-party agent to find a club willing to pay something like €40M for the player. The third party has said that the player ideally wants a club in the Champions League but the discussions he has had have been with Leicester City and Leeds so far and admits knocking on the door of other PL clubs including Arsenal and Spurs - who opted for a deal involving Gil. Milan and Juventus have been approached but have shown no interest. I suspect he might be seen as an option but only if Salah or Mane is sold by LIverpool. Real Madrid will be open to using him in a part exchange deal of some type but finding a buyer at the asking price might be difficult.}

What if firmino departs, Assensio can play false 9 can't he?

{Ed002's Note - He is a winger.}

A crap one at that. Reminds me of Jese.

At best he’s a mediocre footballer, I’d be worried about a recurrence of the cruciate injury that he had as it was nasty as, definitely a hard pass. Like Ed says hardly ever scores (never scored double figures in his career) footballing equivalent of a pub with no beer.

Marco Asensio has scored double figures twice in his career. Never trust the opinion of someone that can’t get basic statistics correct.

{Ed001's Note - why does that matter? It still doesn't change the fact that Asensio has regressed massively and is nowhere near good enough to play for Liverpool.}

In a league campaign he has never scored double figures, that is absolute unequivocal fact. That’s the bread and butter stuff and that’s how I judge a player, scoring the odd goal in domestic cup competitions are absolutely worthless. As Ed said. He’s absolutely nowhere near good enough for our starting line up.

Asensio is a Everton level of player. Not good enough for Liverpool.

Madrid want something like £40m for him too. You’d be just as well withdrawing £40m in notes, dousing it in petrol (if you can get any) and setting fire to it as slgn him.

He's basically another Isco.

Asensio is no longer the player he used to be. He is living on his past glories and has massively regressed since the which is about 4 years ago. There are much better players out there we can get like Raphinha, Sarr or even give chances to Mino who is here and scoring goals rather wasting 40m on some overrated has been like Asensio.

I'd be happy to see mane go. He's had his best days. Cash in while we can.
