Hi Ed002,

Fantastic insight on Saul’s position. It does look like he is off to Barcelona - one of the options you’d put out.

What we fans hear from James Pearce and the likes is that in this window we will be in for two more incomings. Looks like the finances to do that will be bolstered by and not solely dependent on our outgoings.

Two questions on this:

I remember you mentioning we might be in for a surprise and Romano has said this too. Do you think out of the two targets one might be a relatively high profile player this window (ala van dijk, Thiago or an Alison) and it comes on later in the window after we have dealt with the outgoings? I am okay whoever comes as long as it fits the team. However, when it is a high profile player cannot lie the excitement hits different.

Second, do you think for journalists outside Liverpool’s inner circle (Pearce, Joyce, Reddy) it is very hard to get a sniff of the club’s transfer dealings. Is it something that’s been tightened up actively?

As usual thanks for the inputs and keeping us all grounded! Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - It won’t be van Dijk, Thiago or Alison). High profile is subjective. Information comes from others away from the club - including agents.}

That probably rules out Insigne then as for me he is high profile like the above mentioned 🤦🏻.

I have no issue w signing lesser known players. Teams such as Leicester do it and then they become world beaters such as Tielemans, Soyunchu, Madison and Vardy to name a few. We always pay the inflated prices after a successful season or two. We could have got all three for the price of Keita.

{Ed0666's Note - whats to say Soyonchu, Tielmans, Madison et al would have flourished at Liverpool? This post typifies the entitled family base we have.

Mane, Salah, Wijnaldum, Firmino, Fabinho were all in the 25-45M GBP range. Konate and Jota, more recent signings, are as well. We had misses with Keita, and perhaps Ox (injuries), but we have done incredibly well with our transfers in this price range. You can argue these guys have been as effective and may even a better fit for the way we play than a lot of guys with higher price tags would have been.

I think Ed002 meant It won’t be van Dijk, Thiago or Alison, because they're already at the club. Toying with you a little. ;)

Potentially the sales of Grabara, Millar, Ojo, Grujic, Wilson, Shaqiri, Origi, Phillips and Awoniyi could add up to 70-80 million

I could imagine Insigne myself as he's got 1 year of his contract remaining and could offer good value similar to the Thiago deal. He would also be 'high profile' lol.

0666, just making the point that we don't need to be competing at the high end of the market and talking silly money. I'm also not saying they would have worked out for us but using them as examples.

{Ed0666's Note - oh ok mate I hear ya. I like the way we do business now the way we mix up our purchases. For every Thiago there’s a Robbo. I’d hate to do business like United, massive transfer after massive transfer really is counter productive and nurtures inflated egos.

Spot on, Ed. I don’t like the way we do business. I LOVE the way we do business. We spend on the RIGHT players that work for us and our objectives. If that means we spend 75m or 62m on VVD and Big Al or we spend 8m on an obscure Robbo from a relegated team then do be it provided they are the right players for us.

Now look at Utd. They signed Ahmad Diallo (37m) and Sancho for 77m (plus reportedly 50m agent fees, per Ed01) on the right wing position alone and we still don’t know if either will have the right type of impact yet and if they don’t, that’s 160m down the tubes potentially. I wouldn’t trade our model for anyone else’s cos well, it works and we have the receipts (trophies) to prove it.

I mean we can only judge united after we see them, but realistically i think it could be tough to compete if any of their players do take off running. Sadly you can buy flops if you can keep buying big players in bulk like they seem to do. Feel like we could be left behind this year with our limited purchases and our pretty awful bench (which we saw this year with all the injuries) . But better then spending money you don't have!
