Hi eds2
Any idea how Marko Grujic has got on this season with Porto. I guess at the age of 25 he’s now looking to sign for a team instead of yet another loan. Also how much is he worth if we were to sell.
Thanks eds.

{Ed002's Note - Marco Grujic (DM/CM) will be available but at €20M priced out of a move to Porto who will now ask for another year on loan and an obligation to buy. Hertha Berlin may offer an option. If the price is reduced to about €12M-€15M then a sale will happen. Porto were very happy with him.}

12-15m seems sensible. Better to get the sale done as it works better for both parties.

He only started 9 games in the league this season in Portugal and has reached the age of 25. I'm not sure how LFC can continue along with this price tag if they truly want to sell him. Teams are looking at him and seeing a guy who's talent has most likely matured.

Seems like he definitely off then. I did wonder if there was a chance the club would keep him if money is tight for a cm to replace Wij.

{Ed002's Note - The club have had plenty of opportunities to use him but have shown no interest in doing so.}

Started 4 of Porto's last 5 league games and both of the champions league matches v Chelsea. So at least Grujic had gotten in to the Porto team by the end of the season. Hopefully something suitable will work out this summer for him.

Grujic is a decent player. Easily worth £20mil and in the right team will be a great signing. I really don’t see why people expect us to drop our valuations to suit other teams.
If they want him, pay up like we have to if we want a player. If not then he’ll remain a Liverpool player.
We live in a world where Richarlison is £50mil and Sigurdsson is £40mil. With the talent Grujic has I think £20mil is a fair asking price.

{Ed0666's Note - yes but valuations fluctuate due to economic markets. You wouldn’t get 40 mill for sigurdson now. I agree with you to an extent tho it’s up to the club what valuation they put on a player if they want 20 mill for Grujic than that’s their perogitive.

Becker’s Pecker, Grujic is probably worth £20m but the fact is that the majority of European clubs are pretty broke due to C.V.. French clubs are in dire straits due to the collapse of their broadcasting deal. Inter Milan just won the title but Conte left due to being asked to reduce their wage bill by 15-20% and raise £70m from player sales. Dortmund need to sell one of Sancho or Haaland to raise money. Even Barcelona are bringing in out of contract players.
All’s well and good to say £20m or he goes nowhere. But in the end Liverpool are stuck with a player without a work permit and come next summer has one year less on his contract so his value has dropped (barring an exceptional season) £14m in bank could allow for greater movement in recruiting a CM/ AM.

Beckers Pecker, Grujic’s contract only runs until 2023 and every year that gets close to the end of that contract his potential value diminishes, that’s not accounting for the market we’re in. Bar a few teams, there is very little money about. And that’s not accounting for the fact that it’s not entirely fair on the player to mess him about like that by sending him on loans all the time. Holding out for £20m in the hope that someone pays it means that we’ll be in the same position we were in last time. Lowering the price allows interested parties a chance to make an offer if there’s more than one party.

We need to put in a sell on clause, sell him for 12m and a 25% sell on, if the kid comes good the sell on clause kicks in.

Vic and Fuser I get what you’re saying but I’m constantly being told that we are messing teams around by not offering the asking price for a player yet we are supposed to pull our pants down if someone is interested in our players.
He’s a good player who could possibly be very good so why should we budge on our valuation? I’m sure if someone wants to negotiate and come up with an offer that suits us then we’d consider it but nearly halving our initial valuation is just not good business.
We need the money just as much as some other teams so we need to stand strong and get the money we want for any players that are leaving. That then enables us to dip into the market ourselves.
We have to be ruthless in any transfer dealings now more than ever.

{Ed002's Note - I don't think you understand the finances. Liverpool are paying over the odds for players because they don't have the money to buy them outright - like Jota and Thiago who have not been paid for yet. They factored the Coutinho money to get it in advance and that cost them a considerable amount. Players like Grujic need to be sold to bring money in.}

So the club are going to have to take a hit on some players just to get the money in.

{Ed0666's Note - in hoping we can sell enough of the fringe players albeit at a loss and sell mane to be able to afford a swashbuckling forward/wide player and an all action midfielder.

Beckers Pecker we genuinely run the risk of him leaving on a free transfer, then we’d get nothing. It’s not even like the bloke is going to get a game as Klopp clearly doesn’t rate him. I’d take £12-15 and move on. We need the money to improve the playing squad and starting options. No point playing hardball over a player who is never going to play for us. The same goes for Wilson, Ojo, Karius, Awoniyi. We also need to move others on too, and the same principle applies to those who don’t really perform and those not fit enough.

Where do you think Mane will end up Ed? And which swashbuckling forward do u have in mind?

{Ed002's Note - I have not said anything about Mane going.}

Could we use Grujic as a makeweight to bring in Romario Baro?

Liverpool lost in the order of £50 - 70 million during the initial lock down and around another £100m minimum last season from missing match day revenue etc.
These are serious shortfalls that probably mean perhaps 3 or 4 key new signings could not be added to the squad over that time?
The injury issues last season lead on from this situation; Klopp was clearly unhappy with his back-up and perhaps the signings that we missed out on would have played instead.
All told, do not underestimate the damage that CV has caused Liverpool.
It’s lost ready cash in hand and debt-serving funds that has gone.

I think people are missing an obvious issue when valuing transfers. The players we are after are generally among the best players at their current team, or at least regular starters. The players we are trying to sell are players with no future with us, and we're actively trying to get them off the books. We can demand top dollar for our manes and salahs because we don't want to lose them, same as Brighton don't want to lose bissouma/ rbl didn't want to lose konate. We can't do that with fringe players because, eventually, we'll either be stuck with them not playing, or running their contract down. If a player is marked for selling, we should take the best offer received and get some money in and let these boys continue their career elsewhere.

I haven’t seen enough of him at Porto to be 100% sure how he’s gotten on, but stylistically I think Grujic is exactly the type of player we need to replace Gini - he is young, physical, and capable of playing in either 8 or even at 6 to backup Fabinho. He also has some height on him which can be very useful in the PL.

A starting midfield of Fabinho, Hendo and Thiago is top class, and then with backup from Milner, Ox, Keita, Jones and Grujic we have a solid bench. If we can sell Keita and get in another top player to challenge for a starting role then we’d be truly set.

Don’t get why people are happy to offload Grujic when he’s never been given a chance. He’ll play at a higher level the Jones I guarantee.
