The Salzburg sporting director, Christoph Freund, said on Thursday that the club had held discussions with Liverpool. “I can confirm that there are talks with Liverpool at the moment. It is an honour [for us] to see the calibre of clubs who are interested in our players. ”

I guess there is some truth behind the Minamino rumours after all.

James Pearce tweeted a couple hours ago that Minamino moving to Liverpool is "highly likely".

I really liked the look of Minamino, albeit admittedly from a very small sample set of matches.

Seems to be very versatile player to cover any of the front three positions and a more natural like replacement for our style of play than a Origi or Shaqiri.

Also reminds me a bit of Son with his ability to play all across the front line, and who I’ve always thought would be perfect fit for us.

Ed1, what do you make of this as a potential transfer? A good addition?

{Ed001's Note - looks a very good player but I have only seen him against us and he only looked good when we sat back. Just look at the second half, he was anonymous. So difficult to judge him as they were not giving him the ball and he was not able to get it back on his own. I certainly would not be against signing him from what I saw, though his end product was very inconsistent, at best.}

Cheers Ed, you’re not usually wrong about players so if your even half on board with it, it’s a good sign for me.

{Ed001's Note - if those games are a good indicator, then he is probably the best option I have seen to slot into our team in recent months.}

Watching those Youtube clips, RBS score some beautiful goals, haha.

Also consider the price, a reported release clause of 7.5 million. In today's market that's a steal.

Well that escalated quickly.

End of the road for Shaq? I know he would've played more often without injuries, but there isn't exactly a massive hole in the squad when he's missing.

He seems to be keen and has the right attitude to play and press which is a good start, I bet he can’t believe his luck that we are interested. I thought we would be linked with him and Haaland after the game as it seems to be the way, but this one seems to have legs.

We have said for a while we are looking for a creative midfielder and cover for the wings and he looks like he could offer both.

When Salzburg were on it, he was always involved and we are most likely to have the ball and be required to break teams down, which he looks like he will help do! For the reported fee, looks a steal.

Ed2 said the release clause is irrelevant to us so I expect it to be more than the £7.5mil reported.
Regardless though I think he looks a player and would do well for us if it happens.

{Ed002's Note - That would be Liverpool’s srarti g point,}

We welcome Minamino (on 1/ 1/ 2020)
£7.25m. that's the money from selling Kent very well spent ;)

Cheers Ed2. Do you think that Salzburg’s president making the talks public are a tactic to bring other teams in to drive the price up? I wouldn’t blame him if it was he’s got to be worth more than £7m in today’s market.

{Ed002's Note - No.}

To be fair ed001, regarding your point of him being at his best when we sat back, the majority of the teams we face, particularly in the league tend to sit back for large portions of the game. I think on of the only problems we’ve had over the last couple of seasons is breaking down teams who sit back and this lad could be the final piece in the jigsaw!

If Minamino is indeed brought in, then i'd say he's a good replacement for Shaqiri. Minamino accelerates faster, has a wider range of play on the field (Shaq is mostly right sided) and I feel he could probably take on the defensive aspect that Klopp requires from his midfielders, far better. I too, saw him play only twice (against us) and went through some videos. There's a quickness in thinking and movement that suits our game very well. He's 24, therefore moving into his prime years; so maybe the inconsistency will settle down. Who knows, but he looks good.
