Junior Firpo price slashed apparently from the €50 mil quoted to LFC to closer to €25 mil

We probably never even asked about him but good player can play ahead of Robbo aswell as cover.

Tbf, with how prices are these days that is probably within the limits of what you would expect to pay for a back up. Not that i think we should necessarily. Just that its not beyond the realms of possibility just based on the price alone.

Firpo is a very versatile player, so he can cover the wings and CB as well. However, as others have stated, I’d prefer it if the younger lads got an opportunity.

Agree - let Larouci have a shot to grow into the backup role, and if Robbo is out for the big games Milner can cover in a pinch.

As others have said he is more than capable of playing more than one position still if the price was as reported it’s a no brainer in this market.

He cannot play CD - some believe he might be capable in that position but there is absolutely no evidence to believe this. If he were bought it would be for cover down the left side but we already have sufficient cover that wouldn't upset the applecart. He is quite an attacking player and if we were going to be losing AR then I would expect him to come in but as it is it will not happen.

RedGravy he would be good competition for a place. If as per another post we sold Wilson for 25mil and brought in Firpo that would be good business in my eyes.

Selling Wilson and buying Firpo as a like for like replacement is false equivalency, given that Wilson is a very attacking player and a goal threat, whereas Firpo presents no goal threat whatsoever. If we were selling Robertson then it would make sense to buy him, but sorry, if you’re suggesting that he’d be adequate back up to Salah or Manè, you’re very much mistaken.

Wasn't it one of the Eds that said Firpo would not be joining as a back up and would only make sense as a Robertson replacement? That pretty much ended that line of thinking for me. Dropping the price doesn't really change those facts.

Going to Barcelona would be a backup also. I don’t believe all the suggestions every time a player is linked it would be a replacement for a first team player it’s a squad game has been for a long time we don’t only use 11 players.

I think the realistic thing to consider is that even if he was available for transfer his own personal choice would prevent Liverpool being a possibility. Andy robbo is mid 20s and has proved that he's one of the best LBs in Europe over last 18 months.

Jodi alba for Barcelona and Marcelo for Madrid have been mainstays for their clubs for the last 5 years at least, Madrid have shown with mendy signing they want to freshen up that role, jorda alba has shown recently he's not so special as a full back.

Firpo is a young Spanish LB who I'm sure wants that Barcelona or Madrid transfer. Why would he sign for Liverpool who have Robertson probably the most nailed on first choice LB for his club in the world and sadio mane also on the left wing.

He's not world class yet by any means but he's young and if he has any desire to become a great player Liverpool would be arguably the worst choice of club for him to join.

So you are suggesting the player should fear competition? Any player worth there salt should thrive on competition not shy away from it. Alba for the record has a long time left in the game.
