Ed you mentioned we have interest in Diego Lllorente, do you no if we are looking to bring him in this window please?

{Ed002's Note - As I have previously said, Diego Llorente (CB) has been watched by Marseille, Spurs, Atletico Madrid, Liverpool, West Ham, Fulham and Sevilla since joining Real Sociedad in the summer - Spurs could be tempted as they expect TA to leave – and I would certainly not rule out a Liverpool offer.}

Never seen him play, I assume to replace Lovren or matip? What’s he like?

I've not seen him either Firmane. According to his Whoscored player profile he can play either centre back or defensive midfield.

They've got his strengths listed as concentration and passing. His weaknesses listed as tackling and discipline. His playing style listed as a player who likes to carry the ball out from the back and offers an aerial threat from set pieces.

I agree he'd be a Lovren or Matip replacement though. Sounds a lot like Matip actually.

Thank you Ed!
Would that mean Gomez losing his starting spot or would Llorente come in as back up to him and Virgil, with one pf Lovren and Matip leaving either way?

{Ed002's Note - One would expect someone to make way if Llorente were to join - and I would expect that to be Matip or Lovren. If Llorente were to arrive as a starter then I could only assume Gomez would simply be expected to provide cover for all defensive positions.}

He would have to be a replacement for Lovren as no way is he as good as Matip or Gomez.
He isn't particularly tall at 6ft 1 and isn't quick either. Underwhelming if I'm honest!

To be fair, Matip and van Dijk have looked a very good partnership at the back.

When fit, Gomez is number one with Virgil. He was too good not to be. Anyone brought would be as cover IMO.

I dunno. Joe gomez was outstanding before his injury. I don't see us buying a high profile cb. And when called upon, lovren and mainly matip (even the kid can't remember his name) did well.

The only concern is keeping joe fit. I think the very best teams have a solid cb partnership and vvd and gomez seems perfect. Matip seemed to be favoured over lovren and if dejan decides to leave then we may buy someone. In my humble opinion.

Could be a "Just-in-case" scouting. 40 mil offer for Lovren in late July, and were do we turn?

I'm looking forward to that £40m bid for Lovren. VVD and Gomez should be our main CB partnership with Matip as backup and even Fabinho if we get desperate or maybe even some youth players. I'm not sure we need to be buying another CB unless both Lovren and Matip were to leave.

Ah if one were to leave they would need replacing. You need 4 strong CBs in a squad particularly with our injury record with the ones we have. We saw early on this year with 2 or 3 injuries in defence we struggled to get results. Fabinho Henderson and Milner all did jobs when needed but the fall back then was our midfield was being left depleted and unbalanced. I'm happy with our CB options at moment with VVD and gomez first choice. If matip or lovren leaves then we need a replacement of similar or better quality. Too soon for Hoever to be relied on just yet.

Ideally we need 8 defenders, 2 for each position. Like har_red said, we were knackered this season when a few were injured.

Matip, Gomez, llorente and vvd.

vvd might even get a rest, now and again.

stones, otamendi, laporte and another probably Maguire.

should have 2 world class and 2 solid cbs. that's it.

Personally, I just think having a fully fit Joe Gomez all season would make a huge difference to the team. Unless there are genuine concerns about his long term fitness, I wouldn't look to replace him.

A fully fit and settled Naby Keita would be incredible too.

This is possibly the first summer where I won't be anxious over new signings. We perhaps need a couple of new faces to supplement what we already have and to replace some of those leaving (who barely played this season anyway) .

This sure does feel like something they would explore. Klopp doesn't like a very deep bench (17-18 man rotation), but rather flexibility from guys that can play multiple positions. I wonder if they view Llorente as potential fullback cover too, considering his ability to pass and handle the ball?
