My take on the vvd situation

Southampton
They want a bidding war to drive the price up they were aware of clubs talking to him but got pissed when it came out he would only go to lfc hence the tapping up and apology form us

Liverpool
Will only bid once a bid has been accepted by Southampton from other clubs

Chelsea and Arsenal
Will put a late bid in so hope to do the ground work before any clubs get involved

I have faith in macca and confident a deal will be done.

Why on earth would we wait to bid until after they have had an acceptable bid from somewhere else? This has to be one of the strangest thoughts ever.

We're pushing it to the wire. Even though Macca is very positive, I'm starting to doubt anything is going to happen.

We would wait because if we were the only ones bidding there is a good chance Southampton will report us to be investigated. If they accept other bids, then they cannot say they want wanted to keep VVD. They want to sell him and as long as we bid in line with other clubs, it would be harder for them to have us investigated.

News out there saying VVD sacked his agent to push for the deal, how is sacking his agent do any good to push for the deal with us?

Agree with Clee, we can't make a bid unless someone else does and Southampton agree to sell.

I think he'll end up with Arsenal or Chelsea and we'll be stuck with the Lovren the great.

VVD and Koeman have same agents.
They pissed off Southampton over Koemans exit.
Perhaps he getting rid as their relationship with Douthampton is impinging on any deal getting done?

Alternatively he could be getting rid in preparation for staying at Southampton i. e. "I've been badly advised".

{Ed002's Note - Actually, it was his change of agents late last year that started all of this looking to move on saga. He had a great agent in Henk-Maarten Chin who would have had van Dijk's best interest all of the time, would not have persuaded Southampton to let him meet with other clubs in January and would have immediately stopped all of the damage being done by Liverpool and by Klopp.

But he was persuaded before Christmas to move to the Jansens and the Wasserman Group, and it was downhill from there as Liverpool unsettled him, made illegal approaches, brushed off a complaint to the Premier League with an apology and withdrew interest - and then utilised ex-players to come out in the press and unsettle him further. Don't think it has gone unnoticed by certain powers that be that the likes of Carragher and Gerrard were all represented by the Wasserman Group.}

Could there still be ramifications for Liverpool then ed002 as Gerrard is employed by us now?

{Ed002's Note - Of course. If he has left his agents (and I don't know that he has) they will still be seeking the full payment they are due and will address that through the courts if needs be. They also have a contract with the player which may have exit clauses built in. Southampton have a clause in his contract that could see him taken to court over a breach. Southampton could push to have their original complaint investigated or could indeed pass it to FIFA to address.

There is a terrible stench over this whole matter and if cheating is proven to be an acceptable route going forward then there is going to be a shift of power away from the authorities.}

Thanks ed002.
It's all a bit of a mess. I really hope we learn from this.

{Ed002's Note - I hope so too.}

To be honest, as bad as Liverpool has been in this saga, the whole industry and transfer process stinks and I can't help but feel it's because the whole business is so reliant on super agents who are massively incentivized to have clients that move every other year.

It feels that they will do anything to secure transfers including spreading rumors/ lies, doing shady under the table deals, setting up meetings when they shouldn't and manipulating the fans. I think it's long overdue the football world cleans up this side of he business.

{Ed002's Note - No. There are only a handful of "super rich" agents and I suspect that you knowledge of what they do and how they work is rather lacking given your comments.}

Ed, the fact that the ex LFC players like Carra and SG were directly or indirectly involved via VVD's new agents (Wasserman group) in tapping up and unsettling VVD, is vwery troubling. This new info should be alarming to every LFC fan. IMO, this will not end well as this stinks to high hell and LFC has their hands dirty in this whole situation, along with VVD himself. As a result, I propose that people move on from hoping that VVD will sign here cos clearly, Saints know about all the info Ed02 just gave hence, why they will never sell at least to LFC, IMO.

{Ed002's Note - This isn't new information.}

Why don't they just sell the lad then, who the hell do Southampton think they are? Pathetic from them.
