SSN reporting we are talking to sporting lisbon about Gelson Martins.

Any of the Eds no anything?

{Ed001's Note - no idea sorry.}

Maybe trying to force Romas hand?

2.) 07 Jun 2017
07 Jun 2017 11:27:11
Seems very odd been as ssn are reporting that we're not willing to go to £35m for Salah so have changed to what would presumably Ben our 3rd choice that would look to cost around £40m. Why would we choose a more expensive option for 3rd choice. It's not like salah is at the end of his career and therefore doesn't represent a good investment.

3.) 07 Jun 2017
07 Jun 2017 11:30:10
Looks like a talented chap, but isn't he another right winger?

4.) 07 Jun 2017
07 Jun 2017 11:34:33
Hardly tearing things up the Portuguese league though is he? 11 goals in 60 odd games in a fairly weak league? I'd rather we focused our efforts on getting Salah.

5.) 07 Jun 2017
07 Jun 2017 11:37:18
Maybe Klopp moving mane to the left.

6.) 07 Jun 2017
07 Jun 2017 11:37:58
He looks like he would be a step down from Salah, looks like a tactic to get Roma negotiate on the price a little. Also it looks like the Wingers we are looking at now mainly play on the right. Does anyone else think we will be moving Mane over the the left and then sign a RW as there aren't many decent LW about, plus Mane has played on the Left in his career a lot i believe?

7.) 07 Jun 2017
07 Jun 2017 11:43:01
Mane has played on the left more than he has on the right. He's only really been consistently played on the right since joining us.

8.) 07 Jun 2017
07 Jun 2017 11:46:34
We won't Spend 35 Million on our first target who is by far a better player who has proven it in a better league (Serie A) with more goals and assists but we will try buy an alternative for 40 Million which Sporting Lisbon are looking for, who has scored just 6 Goals. Anyone else confused? If we can't get Salah just give Ojo or Wilson.

9.) 07 Jun 2017
07 Jun 2017 11:49:33
Gelson Martins would be great. ynwa.

10.) 07 Jun 2017
07 Jun 2017 11:52:44
We could do with this link falling flat on its arse and moving onto Douglas Costa a proven Lw who along with VVD and a LB would push Liverpool to the next level.

11.) 07 Jun 2017
07 Jun 2017 12:00:49
Average at best and someone has to tell the lad you cannot dribble past all 11 players. He has pace but hardly any end product and has no vision to pick players or their movements. He is exactly what Markovic was 3 years ago.
We should go back to Julian Brandt and mind you Martins should be the Plan C.

12.) 07 Jun 2017
07 Jun 2017 12:27:12
Southampton are interested in him right? maybe we want to save our money😂😂.

13.) 07 Jun 2017
07 Jun 2017 12:35:15
I hope it is just a tactic to speed up negotiations with Roma for Salah. Gelson Martins may well have potential but he's nowhere near the level of Salah in my opinion. Martins is definitely not worth more than 15million.

I'd be very happy if we can get VVD, Salah, a quality lb and Rb, then depending on outgoings maybe add Keita and a striker like Werner or Lacazette. That would be an excellent summer for us.

14.) 07 Jun 2017
07 Jun 2017 12:44:00
Ed, is FSG up to their usual money antics again or is Ian Ayre back on the scene?

15.) 07 Jun 2017
07 Jun 2017 12:55:41
Wouldn't it be better to give the nod to Brandt?

16.) 07 Jun 2017
07 Jun 2017 13:06:43
Ed001, Echo reporting that we are monitoring Keita Baide, Martins and Douglas Costa as alternative to Salah. I was just wonderig what is you opinion on them, who would be your choice?

{Ed001's Note - I have never seen Martins play, seen very little of Keita and so it would have to be Costa due to him being the only one I have seen. Though he is supposed to be a bit of an arse, he has shown he can be top class on his day.}

17.) 07 Jun 2017
07 Jun 2017 13:34:19
Keita Balde is supposed to have agreed a move to Juventus? Martins doesn't look a top class player at all from what I have seen of him, like a substandard Nani and that is not saying a lot.

18.) 07 Jun 2017
07 Jun 2017 13:35:39
Apparently rick parry is consulting on transfers. were doomed.

19.) 07 Jun 2017
07 Jun 2017 13:53:22
Make no mistake, Douglas Costa is a great player with magic in his left foot and can strike a ball with deadly precision. However as Ed said, he is a piece of work which is part of the reason BM may want rid as his attitude stinks.

As for Salah and Martins, it's just a ploy to let Roma know that we won't be messed about cos they need the money so this is just another negotiating tactic. I think the deal will still be done.

20.) 07 Jun 2017
07 Jun 2017 14:03:59
Douglas costa i think would always of been the top choice for a nrw winger.

Everyone else is below his level.

Not thay there bad players or won't improve us but costa on the left and mane on the rivht would be ruthless.

21.) 07 Jun 2017
07 Jun 2017 15:00:42
I hope we get Salah, if not I would like Keita Balde, always wanted him as a liverpool player.

22.) 07 Jun 2017
07 Jun 2017 15:09:38
Gelson is 14 assists and 6 goals in 32 league games. Not bad stats is it?

23.) 07 Jun 2017
07 Jun 2017 15:33:03
You have to remember he got them stats in the Portuguese league, which is like the championship minus a couple of teams, so Jordan Rhodes is a must buy if we keep looking at stats.

24.) 07 Jun 2017

We simply don't need a RB. End of. If someone amazing becomes available for a decent price then fair enough. We should focus on LB and securing our new CB (who I believe is undoubtedly on his way to melwood) We were amazing this season against teams who wanted to play football. We don't want to change the balance of the team too much by replacing half the personnel. LB is now priority and then a proven striker and then CM. Although I won't be worried if we don't buy a CM. If lucus leaves (legend) then perhaps we need a scrappy midfielder but really don't think we need to spend 50 mil. I'm very pleased to see salah in a liverpool shirt. Anyone creative and quick I'm pleased with. I understand he is a hard working footballer and that makes me smile. Better think of a song boys.

25.) 07 Jun 2017
07 Jun 2017 16:14:51
I'm not sure how spending more money on a secondary or in this case a 3rd choice can be a ploy to get Roma to play ball. Surely Roma will just turn around and say 'you value your 3rd choice at £40m so surely your 2nd choice is worth more'

26.) 07 Jun 2017
07 Jun 2017 14:08:06
Ed's People saying Roma need the money, haven't they agreed a £40mil deal with Inter for Nainggolan? meaning technically they don't need the money?

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Roma are putting pressure on his agent at present to find out if Liverpool has made an illegal approach to Salah. They have set a price for the player but Liverpool has not made an acceptable offer.}

Didnt ronny come from sporting. Wasnt a decision also made to not throw money down the drain on such a young player, didn't we also get cisse instead.

Im feeling abit of deja vu here.

Listen im not saying he's a ronny. But just because he comes from a weak league doesn't make him a bad player.

Coutinho came from there afterall. Along with other players from weaker leagues. Lallana was in league 1 a few years ago. Firmino was in the dudgeons in brazil. Mane was in switzerland i think, maybe lower end french league. Hendo at sunderland.
