Eds what was plan for mexican winger César 'Chino' Huerta who allegedly had his bag packed ready to join in window just gone, . Report I read said he was going to Sunderland on loan for a season but it fell through on their end, so deal wasnt completed. Is he someone just for the academy or to make a profit on? Never seen him obviously. Cheers.
1
{Ed002's Note - He is certainly not for the academy
Cesar Huerta (LW) Right footed LW who Liverpool, according to his agent and manager, were interested in taking and sending him on loan to the Championship as he is borderline in being eligible for a Work Permit for the Premier League. Austin enquired after him and Lutz Pfannenstiel considered him as an option. If FSG could purchase another side in Europe or the MLS it would help with loaning him out.}

So the loan to Sunderland was to gain make work permit an easier process and then join our first team the season after maybe? Love a South American me, grafters.

{Ed002's Note - Possibly.}

Magico
Hope you love North Americans as much as South bud.

Ed’s, I must ask why no top European club is going for Pedro Goncalves. I’ve been singing this man’s praises for at least 3 seasons. He gets double digits goals and assist every year and I never see him linked. Has he got a bad rep or do Sporting not entertain any offers? he's absolutely class. There has to be a reason why he’s still at sporting and not in a top 3 league. Thanks.
1
{Ed002's Note - Pedro Goncalves (RW/LW/AM) Versatile goalscoring winger who has attracted interest from Al Nassr. Liverpool, Spurs and Manchester United looked at him previously and Aston Villa and West Ham have sent scouts. Aston Villa may press. Whilst he would perhaps be a good Salah replacement, he would cost a single one off payment of €80M and Sporting may not be keen to deal with Liverpool. Bayer Leverkusen has a declared interest but want to pay much less. Sporting know there is a good chance they will lose Marcus Edwards and will want to keep Goncalves.}

Just a quick one Ed’s. Micky Van de ven, was he ever a interest of Liverpool? A quick young left sided CB exactly what we need/ needed. I guess he wouldn’t have been a starter which would have put him off the idea of Liverpool. But he is a great player in my opinion, just wondered if we missed out on him? Cheers. Love the site.
2
{Ed002's Note - Yes but he moved to Spurs.}
4
13 Sep 2024 13:31:05
Another bullet dodged then. Spurs defending is shocking and all Ven has is I can run fast.
1
{Ed001's Note - very much dodged. The guy can't defend. He can run very fast but needs to as he is always out of position. And he runs faster than he can control. He is the defensive Adama Traore.}
20
13 Sep 2024 14:02:48
Sounds a bit like Kyle Walker then! 😄.
4
13 Sep 2024 16:17:19
The Kyle walker/ Traore similarities have put my mind to rest. Thank Ed’s and reds.

13 Sep 2024 12:11:32
Ed, is our interest in Anthony Gordon long-term or has it been and gone? It seems odd that we were prepared to offer one of the highest sums in our history if it was a fleeting thing and the player is certainly keen on specifically us.
Furthermore is our interest in Chris Rigg genuine? Many thanks.
1
{Ed002's Note - Anthony Gordon (LW/F) Newcastle may insist on a straight sale without another player being involved now although interest of Liverpool moved on due to his price with them opting for Federico Chiesa. It has been suggested that Arsenal may be interested if Raheem Sterling does not work out. Newcastle will ponder a new contract.
Chris Rigg (CM) Kiddie spotted by Chelsea scouts when watching another Sunderland player. Of an age where he can reach the position of being Club Developed as well as Home Grown. Liverpool and Manchester United have sent scouts.}

I would expect Liverpool to go back in for him next summer looks ready made for Liverpool. I think he has everything needed to play for us.
4
13 Sep 2024 13:13:26
Thanks Ed. Is our interest completely dead or could he be an option if Diaz/ Gakpo/ Nunez move on?
0
{Ed002's Note - If Nunez leaves Liverpool will look to a striker. Liverpool have already added Chiesa.}

14 Sep 2024 10:15:24
It will be interesting to see how AG develops this season. I think he has the attributes to be a top CF. A deal to be done next summer with 12 months on his contract.

Seems inevitable that, as a Red that's keen to join, its only a matter of time before.

13 Sep 2024 11:17:51
Goodmorning Eds and Reds. Ed002, if i remember correctly, you said that Luis Diaz had destroyed his relationship with the club by seeking a transfer preferably to Barcelona. Seeing his good start in the season, is there any change or is he still looking to move?
1
{Ed002's Note - I would not have used the word "destroyed". He wants Barcelona, that much is clear. The thing is that at best he would only be third choice for Barcelona. Liverpool have also added Chiesa so need to decide on a new contract offer or letting him go next year.}
5
13 Sep 2024 12:53:41
Thanks Ed002.

Surely the club will let him run down his contract, it seems to be the way now.
1
13 Sep 2024 22:45:30
@Langland, the three that popped into mind re contracts running down we Millie who was 37, Matip who is 33 and injury prone (and, so far, has no takers) and Thiago who is in his 30’s was crippled by injury and retired . Not sure f there’s anybody else recently?
1
14 Sep 2024 00:06:34
West Derby, Bobby left after his contract had run down, as did Keita and we are in the awkward position of our 3 most senior players (Capt, vice Capt and Salah) on less than a year to go. Slot says it's not a distraction, but it certainly is! I would say that's it's a valid comment. It's a position we find ourselves in more than we would like. A result of high wages that no one else is willing to take on.
2
14 Sep 2024 02:33:53
The club told Bobby he wouldn’t be getting a new contract and Naby was clinging on like a limpet until his contract ran down because of the money he was getting to lie on a table in the medical department.
1
14 Sep 2024 07:56:13
West Derby, I take your point but I do think that we as a club try and wring out all we can from our players. Meaning that we end up with players leaving at the end of their contracts and no additional funds for the club. Yes, they may be old, overpaid, told they are surplus to requirements and injury prone, but we let those situations occur more than is preferable. The comment was, it seems to be the way, for whatever reason it is the way. First team players leaving on a free, it’s not ideal and we have 3 huge players in that situation again. We were almost caught out by the front 3 a few years back, Mane sold with a year to go, Bobby left on a free and Salah signed up on a huge last minute contract. I think it’s a fair comment.

I'd say it's more of a distraction for fans than it is for Slot.
Slot is clearly focussed on the job at hand.
0
14 Sep 2024 09:11:31
Pot in what way is it a distraction? Does the team look distracted? Do the players look distracted? Does the manager look distracted?
The only people distracted are some fans who obsessively go on about contracts when they have no idea what’s going on behind the scenes.
Relax, enjoy the football. That’s our job.
3
14 Sep 2024 09:57:18
1jj well it will be a distraction come January, when these players can talk to other clubs . if they don't sign n get offered multi million pound deals at other clubs, do you think they will still bust a gut for us knowing that an injury could ruin their chances . to me n iv said it before it's a shambles that this has been allowed to happen,
1
14 Sep 2024 10:01:45
Pretty relaxed 1jj but thanks for the life advice.
I agree the team is doing well, early days but i am enjoying it.
To answer your question, the longer the situation goes on unresolved, the larger the issue will become. It will become a distraction because that is what the team and the manager will obsessively be asked about and with good reason, our captain, our vice captain and the best player of the last ten years at least potentially leaving. Like it or not, the issue isn’t going away, it will only become a bigger distraction. The club should have resolved the issue sooner. In the same way Klopp’s departure was talked about to the point of distraction. Just because you don’t think it should be, sadly doesn’t mean that it isn’t.
0
14 Sep 2024 10:32:11
Bit of a difference between Klopp definitely leaving and players with contracts about to expire.
Who will be obsessively and continually asking about the contract situations? The aforementioned fans and the media.
It also depends on the individual fan's outlook. This kind of situation is manna from heaven for those who need something to complain about on a daily basis.
0
14 Sep 2024 10:45:23
Flash, I am simply answering the question not complaining. Is the situation, for whatever reason a distraction? Yes it is. Is the issue of the contracts a problem of the club’s own making? Yes, it is
The comparison of Klopp leaving was put forward by many fans, pundits, ex players and managers as part of the reason why our season fell away. It was commonly reported as a distraction that affected our performances. Again whether you agree or not is irrelevant, both that and this contract situation is a distraction and it will only get worse. You don’t think it’s not going to be spoken about every time we play? The club needs to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

FSG's MO is about to come under the spotlight, in the most revealing of ways.
They let their star baseball player go a few years ago, which turned out to be a bad move.
Lets see if they are willing to bend their own rules for generational talents.
0
14 Sep 2024 11:53:15
It depends on your outlook Pot old chap.
The players themselves don't look distracted, Slot doesn't look distracted. The club overall doesn't look distracted, the matchgoing fans don't seem to be distracted. The only people I see going on and on about it are fans using social media/ forums. I think you do Slot a great disservice if you think he's going to let what fans say on the Internet distract him from what he's currently doing.
Just because fans start to get hysterical it doesn't mean that the club staff will.

A player cannot be sold against their will and they cannot be forced to sign an extension. The power is all with the player. It has been this way since Bosman.
Surprised people so agitated about contracts. Call me naive but I trust they know what they are doing.

Seen a few articles over the last few days saying Mbappe was nailed on to sign for us in 2022 before the move was ultimately blocked.
Any truth in that or just rubbish? It’s odd, because it comes from a decent source (L’Equipe) .
0
{Ed002's Note - Liverpool illegally tapped up Mbappe at Monaco in 2017. Eventually he signed for Liverpool in 2022, and again this summer. The club are very lucky to have him.}
16
13 Sep 2024 09:00:34
L'Equipe only claimed he had an agreement to join us from what I can find online. Even if that is true, they allegedly said it was never agreed between the clubs so not sure that is the equivalent of him being "nailed on". I've not read the original article, 've only seen translated extracts, but it sounded like clickbait nonsense to me.

Ed2, I believe I've asked this question before, but I'm not sure if it ever got posted.
I'm curious to know your favorite players of all time. You provide so much info about transfers, but I'm interested to know who you enjoyed watching the most.
1
{Ed002's Note - There are plenty who were well worth watching - the likes of Johan Cruyff, Rivaldo, Ruud Gullit, Zico, Rivellino, Enzo Scifo and Ronaldinho.}
15
12 Sep 2024 08:48:04
Scifo was an amazing player, one of those players who could dribble past an entire team from deep, I only got to watch him near the tail end of his career when he played for Monaco but what a number 10!
5
12 Sep 2024 08:57:13
My first ever watching of a World Cup was Mexico ‘86
Michael Laudrup- who I think was close to joining the reds at one point - was a fantastic player.
6
12 Sep 2024 11:01:23
I remember ed001 shared exactly how close Laudrup was to joining us and how we messed it up, wasn’t he supposed to join us straight from Denmark and somebody thought he wasn’t worth the money?
0
{Ed001's Note - no mate, Laudrup himself didn't feel he was good enough to play for us at the time. Strange for a self-confessed Liverpool fan, but that was the big issue.}
11
12 Sep 2024 11:24:24
For me my favorite players of all time are all defenders lol- cafu, aldair, zanetti, maldini, desailly, and Virgil haha
The exceptions to this list would be mcmanaman and God.
1
12 Sep 2024 12:17:18
Instead of Laudrup, we ended up with Barnes, Beardsley, Aldridge and Houghton, so it didn't end too badly, as great a player as he was.

12 Sep 2024 12:54:28
Good point Rome.

12 Sep 2024 13:21:15
Loved Hyypia, Patrik. Such a graceful defender. If he'd been a little quicker across the gound he'd be the best ever, imo. Scored a couple of bangers with his feet too.
6
12 Sep 2024 14:15:38
I might be romanticising him here and it could purely be nostalgia clouding my memory, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen Sami lose an aerial duel in our box lol, when I was young I was in awe of how dominant he was, a colossus indeed.
7
12 Sep 2024 14:58:49
Paul McGrath has to be up there with the best of defenders. USA 94 against Italy is possibly the best performance from a defender I have ever seen.
4
12 Sep 2024 15:09:06
Johan Cruyff for me. From an LFC point of view Patrick Berger Craig Johnston and Tommy Smith were some of my favs.
2
12 Sep 2024 19:56:37
I might be wrong rome77 but I think we close to buying Laudrup around 83/ 84, few years before that brilliant front 4 u mentioned.
He would've been some player for us in any era or any team.
0
12 Sep 2024 19:58:44
Hyypia was an absolute beast, near unbeatable in the air and positioning was immense. Proper defender, you rarely get the like of him nowadays. As said above if he'd of been a bit quicker he'd of been on Virgils level but he comes second to him IMO as best CB in red that iv seen play. The 80's were a tad early for me unfortunately.
2
{Ed025's Note - he was very good Westwood, not Jarred Branthwaite good but not far off it mate.. :)
2
12 Sep 2024 20:09:54
Apart from the obvious Dalglish I idolised Ray Kennedy and Terry McDermott. Terry Mac's highlight reel is simply ridiculous.
7
{Ed025's Note - all great players them Flash..

Digger10, reading up on it, he was indeed linked to us in 83/ 84, according to reports, which say it was a difference in the length of contract which stopped him joining. I just remember watching a video of the 87/ 88 season and whoever it was who did the voice-over saying, that we once courted Laudrup but turned to Barnes and Beardsley instead. We may both be right. He certainly wasn't established back in 1983.

A poster earlier on mentioned patrik berger as one of his favourite players. i remember him being good with a cracking left peg but as i was young i don't know how good he was. so ed01 what you think.
0
{Ed001's Note - I have to be careful what I say here, my ma is in love with him so to say anything other than good things will get me in a lot of trouble. He was a very good player, worked hard, quick, good left peg, could hit a shot but did have a few injury problems.}

12 Sep 2024 22:01:44
John Barnes and Steve Heighway two of my favorite Liverpool players to watch. Trevor Francis and Henry two of the best non reds I have seen at Anfield. I know who thought there was football before 1992.

13 Sep 2024 00:52:06
I love to watch ronaldinho I'm his prime, never has a player played with the same level of joy as ronaldinho. I also think Ronaldo nazario is the best attacker I've ever seen play.
But my absolute favourite player ever is Roberto Baggio for a variety of reasons. I was also pleased to find out he's one of the nicest people on earth and generous to a fault.
4
13 Sep 2024 01:05:11
I like the fact Ed002 picked mostly traditional number 10s.
From a personal view (outside of Liverpool) to add to those mentioned I loved Zidane, Van Basten, Iniesta and Baresi. but Maradonna was the best!
2
13 Sep 2024 01:47:20
Cruyff, my favourite ever player to watch but for Liverpool? Dalglish, without a shadow of a doubt. There's obviously quite a few but if I'm picking a number one then it's 100% Dalglish.
2
13 Sep 2024 02:02:21
I had limited matches to watch growing up, usually random Champions League matches on ESPN. I loved watching AC Milan. Was a huge Maldini fan, as well as Nesta and Kaka. Always loved watching Shearer and Bergkamp.
2
13 Sep 2024 06:52:12
Rome77. Wasn't trying to act the know it all, what I was getting at it was that he would've been in a previous team and wouldn't have effected us so much of buying 1 of that front 4,as that front 4 a joy to watch and for many a football supporter around my age that is why they fell in love with football and lfc.
1
13 Sep 2024 09:01:37
Agree Digger
We signed Aldridge when Rush went to Juve and then brought in Barnes and Beardsley later, and Houghto
Laudrup was linked prior to the WC ‘86
And of course, we weren’t competing in Europe at that stage either.

13 Sep 2024 09:06:40
BenRichards, I noticed that too, It think Ed002 has a type! My favourite players to watch as a kid (away from the obvious Torres and Gerrard) were Totti, Del Piero, Seedorf, Kaka, Nedved, Pandev and Ronaldinho. I just loved Italian football around that 2005-2010 era because they had so many good Attacking Midfielders and Second Strikers. Seedorf was the only anomoly as he played slightly deeper but he was just a monster.
Great picks Ed002.

13 Sep 2024 09:42:59
The list is long for me but here are my faves in no particular order; Ronaldinho, Maradona, Batistuta, Socrates, Rai, Barnes, Gascoigne, Waddle, Rijkaard, (Brazilian) Ronaldo, Zola, Hagi, Et'o, Weah, Stoichkov, Maldini, Baresi, Valderrama, Zidane and I will stop at Buffon.

Laudrup said that a deal was agreed with liverpool, over a 3 yr contract. As he was about to sign, the board came back and said they wanted it to be over 4 yrs.
Laudrup was upset with the way the club tried to change there agreement and decided not to sign.

13 Sep 2024 16:22:00
I remember that was what he claimed himself, but it seems pretty bogus if you ask me, why would he kick up such a fuss about an extra year?

13 Sep 2024 18:00:28
Domestically Barnes was my favourite. Loved watching foreign football, for some reason always like Jean Pierre Papin and Basile Boli from Marseille, waddle Hagi Stoiichkov Baggio. Boban, Rui Costa.
