this newsystem has destroyed Bobby's effectiveness playing him in the stupid hole all this season. Play him upfront so he can press from the front. He is just a bit useless in that position just behind Salah/ mane. Also he can head those crosses from trent/ robbo. Bobby is too deep. And that just makes it easy for teams to defend against us. Bobby is of the few players that are outstanding without the ball than they are with it. He can play upfront draw defenders and leave spaces for Salah/ mane. This seemed pretty simple last season. I don't get it everything us better this season yet attack won't click. Bring Bobby back upfront as spearhead of the attack.

I was thinking the same also is it just me or is Fabinho just getting in the way and what is mane up to all he seems to do is give the ball away or over run it on a positive we are top of the league and we haven’t even started to hit the high intensity.

11 Nov 2018 14:34:22
It's nonsense what mane does sometime. But it's because most of the time he has no one to make a forward pass to. Put Bobby there just like last season and attack will click.

11 Nov 2018 14:50:02
If you want to compare anything to last season look at points earned, last season at this stage we where what? About 12 points off top and well out of the title race, this season we are well in the mix and top for now.

11 Nov 2018 16:10:18
Exactly Mikey. Last year we would jump ahead to 4-0 and then end the game 4-3 or 4-4. This year we're getting to 1-0 or 2-0, not conceding and then ending the game there. Sure, we looked better last year esthetically, but i'll take the results any day. We are a better title contender this year than we were last year.

11 Nov 2018 23:25:06
Bobby up top for me every time, his presence opens up the opposition for Mo and Mane.

11 Nov 2018 23:29:00
Agreed Ra and Mikey, well said.

12 Nov 2018 04:46:48
In essence you don't even get the post i make. I have never said we are hopeless and that team isn't doing well. I have expressed concerns for a player that could do much better and improve the team even further as an attacking unit if played in what i sense is the right position for him.
We have better players all around the pitch now better, defenders and better midfielders. Hence, there is no reason for attack to suffer. Play bobby upfront like it was last season. It helps both Mo and Mane and in turn will also help the midfield. for now far too many passes go through him just slowing down things.

{Ed001's Note - but we are getting results as we are, why whine about it? Just be glad it is working, even if you don't like it.}

12 Nov 2018 05:05:30
Yes its working a treat though. that's why klopp gets the bucks. I will just shut it. Bobby is a favorite player and while he is doing well id be chuffed if he was banging em in.

16 Nov 2018 18:27:54
There's a reason he leaves Salah at the tip. defences can't play a high line against us meaning we can close the distance between our defence and midfield as the opposition has to drop off 15-20 yards to stop salah having the ball behind them. Hence we are not conceding as much this season as both our centre backs have the pace to cover behind but can now push up to half way in possesion. The problem is that this means we are playing through more congested middle so it will take time for the lads upfront to click but it is worth it for the defensive solidity.

06 Nov 2018 21:15:28
Napoli v PSG is a cracker. It's good to watch but bad to watch from the point of view we have to play them both . Napoli look the best team in the group at the moment.

Brief assessment of tonights game:

Keeper - should've done better with their second, could do nothing about the first, and apart from a couple of other saves in the first half did not have that much to do in terms of making saves. Has to be doing better for the second goal.

Defence - Van Dijk was OK but was smashing far too many long balls forward. I thought he looked noticeably slower and a lot less dominant defensively. Matip is just weak and dithering and basically may as well not be there. TAA did nothing much wrong but was brought off at half time so we could pump long throws into their box - a terrible tactical error in my opinion as Gomez's distribution was really off and the long throws did not work. Robertson was woeful, zero thrust getting forward, zero ability to stop crosses being played in at the back, and the very epitome of dithering on the ball, shocking. Gomez came on as a sub and basically pumped long throws into the box but nothing else, he was not great.

Midfield - were the game was lost for me. Wijinaldum was so deep, so often yet he was still ineffective defensively and showed it by being bullied by their centre-forward before he smashed in their second. His passing was so unimaginative as to be farcical and he made no attempt to get on the ball and do something out of the ordinary. Milner was poor, gave away possession far too cheaply, dropped far too deep at times, and looked knackered for large parts. Lallana was just woeful - did nothing in defence, did nothing in attack, yet lasted close to 80 minutes. A bizarre decision by the club not to include Shaqiri - sure it would've made the fans hostile but they were hardly shrinking violets in his absence were they? I think Shaqiri would've relished the occasion - he certainly would've contributed more than lallana.

Forwards - Sturridge missed an absolute sitter and proceeded to do nothing else in the first half. Salah had a couple of presentable chances second half but couldn't make more of them. Kept trying to cut in onto his left to shoot but defences are wise to this and he got nowhere doing it. Mane was full of energy but he was sloppy with the ball though he did track back a number of times to defend which was more than we could say for others. Firmino came on as a sub and, whilst he offered more, he still did not do enough, and like the entire team his contributions and work ethic were sub par. Origi also came on, I assume with the aim of using his physicality - he ended up mis-controlling the ball numerous times and provided no real danger for their back line.

Klopp - his line-up, his strategy, so he takes the blame. Woeful from first minute to last and looking incredibly tired - this is worrying given they are supposedly saving themselves for the second half of the season. Putting out a weakened team in a CL tie you really need to win is bizarre in my opinion and should not happen - we did it, we seemed to think we were going to walk it, and ended up being humiliated. So many lessons that need learning. Also wondering when the press is going to mske a return as we look a far tamer beast now that we tend to sit-off and allow opponents to come onto us.

Conclusion - wish I would've went to bed. Stayed awake to watch and and have been so infuriated since I haven't been able to sleep (hence this post) . Our performances have been declining since pretty much the start of the season and, whilst we have commented on how solid we look, nobody has really said how well we have played. probably because we haven't. Crucial time of the season, this sort of play and approach will be punished more. What;s next? Who knows - Klopp needs to earn his salary now as players are simply not performing to required levels. We shall see what happens at Fulham.

Good review seano.

07 Nov 2018 08:39:23
Good review, Hendo and Keita can't come back quick enough for me.

07 Nov 2018 13:43:48
Great review, I agree pretty much 100% bar Gomez. I thought he played well. Midfield was horrendous last night, the attack wasn't much better. I'd prefer the team to stack 11 men in their own half and just hit teams on the counter-attack, especially with Shaqiri playing, he's the only player recently for Liverpool who can pass through the opposition and defense. Overall Liverpool has a much better defense than last season, and when Gomez and Virgil are firing on all cylinders, they are two of the best central defenders in the league.

I think the defeat to Madrid is still affecting the play, the team doesn't look as fluid. Losing the OX was a shame. I doubted signing him, however, come to the end of the season he would have been the first name on the team sheet for me. He really stepped up and was developing into a top midfielder.

Klopp needs to stop Salah and Mane coming deeper to collect the ball as often as they do. We need the midfield to step up and start passing with more pace and fluidity to allow the strikers to play as a unit. Currently, the midfield and attack look isolated. Last night Gigi got the ball and Lallana and Milner were nowhere near him.

Hopefully, Liverpool can play better at the weekend! Every year the team has a glaring fault, last season it was the defense and keeper, this season for me it's been the midfield. Milner and Shaqiri have looked good, but the rest are lackluster and not consistent. Last night red star were just passing it through the midfield, which is what Liverpool need to learn to deal with and do to other teams to really unleash Salah and Mane like last season.

07 Nov 2018 14:36:56
@RH18 - We'll agree to disagree on Gomez as I thought in possession he was really poor however, to give him some credit, he did track back well and won the ball pretty much every time.

The Ox was a beast last season and his drive and energy was a big part of the midfield, the players available now need to bring that. None of them played with energy levels I would consider good enough yesterday and that is unforgivable - a bad miss, poor technique, lapse in concentration - none of them are to be celebrated but they can be forgiven, lacking the energy for a fight is not on.

I don't think the issue is our attackers dropping deep (though that is not helpful) but rather the speed of our play compared to last season. The transition to the front players is just so slow that it allows opposition to get themselves fully organised - yesterday we were criminally slow and it meant we rarely created those big chances.

I don't know what the answer is to be honest, I don't think our new tactical approach suits the personnel and I think as the games go by, and the performances do not improve, it is affecting players more and more. Hopefully we see brighter performances at Fulham.

08 Nov 2018 12:43:33
@Seano Definitely an excellent point about the transition! The lads up top do seem to be playing the ball to slowly. I haven't been a fan of the tactics so far. Whilst no alarm bells are ringing yet, Klopp and the lads need to sort it out sharpish! City look unstoppable currently and Chelsea look good, it's insane to think this far into the season and all 3 teams are unbeaten in the prem.

Hopefully the OX can come back and show the rest of the midfield how to play again!

If Lallana scored as many goals as the fouls he gives away we would run away with the League.

First time poster maybe I'm been over critical or expecting too much but I've been really disappointed so far this season performance wise bar the west ham spurs and palace games, obviously I'm pleased with the results we have got but performance wise I don't think we've been great, this new style we seem to be using were we're not pressing high anymore seems to be allowing teams more time on the ball and inviting pressure on which until tonight we have gotten away with but I could really see that coming although didn't expect it tonight, that performance was embarrassing and pathetic no invention and no passion, two silly and schoolboy errors cost us. . we need to go back to our style of last season when we were blowing teams away with our fast moving and intense pressure, the front 3 don't look comfortable with the new style and I think it's effecting them performance and confidence wise
Rant over.

The usual bunch will come out and say we are still in the mix for the league so no need to worry but we have not been convincing and the teams around us are actually performing far better than us. Guess the true genius behind the team is now showing us the full impact after he left. Klopp was just the puppet and now looks the dummy since the puppet master has left.

06 Nov 2018 20:21:30
That was a pretty inept performance. Gutted.

06 Nov 2018 20:08:29
Two points which apply not only to tonight but for much of the season.

1. Zero creativity in midfield which has been the case for most of the season. Milner, Wini and Lallana are simply not good enough.

2. Not pressing teams anymore and are standing off. This stops forward momentum and slows the game down.

Klopp needs to address this or the season will diminish quickly.

Poor performance and bad night.
Let’s move on and look forward Sunday at home to Fulham.
I’m sure after that we’ll all be back in love with Klopp and Fabihno will be the missing piece of the puzzle again!

I am so angry. That is the worst performance in Europe in over 35 years . I hope Lallana and Matip never wear a Liverpool shirt AGAIN. It was embarrassing and shameful. Klopp I think it's time to go. unfortunately.

This post is embarrassing honestly. Time for Klopp to go? Give yourself a head check. I agree he needs to be held accountable for how we are playing, but what about all the good things that have happened since he joined too? Or does it only matter when we lose?

06 Nov 2018 20:45:56
Rudder you need to go and have a tommy tank son. Worst post of the day. Time for Klopp to go? Dear me.

06 Nov 2018 20:50:23
Ahhh hahaha.

06 Nov 2018 21:05:06
With friends like you who needs enemies, absolutely unbelievable. Its disappointing but bad results happen in football there is another team on the field after all, but trying to explain consideration to this entitled waste of space generation is getting impossible. Any 'fan' that can't see anything positive from our season so far really shouldn't claim to be a liverpool fan. No team, organisation or person needs your kind of support, in fact its detrimental.

06 Nov 2018 21:14:38
Hilarious. LOL. And highly entertaining. 👍.
