Just thinking out loud but how would people view resting players for the second leg against Porto.

After the game Tuesday the team started a ten day break before being at home to Westham, part of that break is somewhere warm and sunny. After that game there is a week until the next league game at home to Newcastle. Those two games are vital and you would expect the strongest 11 available to play. After Newcastle it is just three days until the Porto game. With a five away goal lead even if two of the three up top and VVD were rested you would expect a positive outcome for the tie. We play United four days after the Porto game, away and at lunch time.

Having been able to rest key players could be crucial especially as Untied will be going in to their second leg the following week and may not be able to do the same.

Klopp earlier today when asked about this:

"We made our rotation in the winter – in November and December – to be now 100 per cent fit"

"Now we are 100 per cent fit the best players will play all the time. "

He will no disappoint the home crowd and risk losing momentum before the Man U game, nor will he risk a huge turn around. The team put out will most likely be the strongest available and we can take anyone off to rest them in the second half once Porto have been buried for good, and more importantly, we've entertained the 56,000 fans who paid good money for the first home knock out Champions league game in 9 years.

Some things in football are bigger than a millionaire being wrapped in cotton wool.

Good game to watch today but I do agree with your thoughts on mane. Eds, I was wondering what you've thought of karius last appearances and whether or not he has been harshly criticised like some people are saying

Cheers.

{Ed0333's Note - I think there’s a very good keeper in there somewhere mate. He’s done pretty well last couple of games but then again his reference point is Simon Mignolet. I am incredulous that we’ve been subjected to that level of goalkeeping for the last 5 years.

He makes saves a goalkeeper should, which mignolet hasn't been. He's also confident with the ball and one of many fears about mignolet is his lack of pace, which karius has.

14 Feb 2018 23:43:56
Thanks for the reply ed.

From what I remember it was his immaturity that cost him the starting place to begin with when he spoke out against Neville. So hopefully he's past that, keeps improving and gets himself cemented in that lineup.

{Ed0333's Note - no worries mate

15 Feb 2018 13:47:56
2 games in a row now he has made a very similar save, that MIGs would have let in, by rushing out but staying BIG and not just sliding across the floor or trying to use his feet to save it but using his body instead.
Whilst a while ago I criticised the fact he seems to cower away from close range shots. Not anymore :D.

Legendary German coach Otto Rehagel once said, "If you expect easy games, you will never have one. Now if you expect hard games all the time, you will get some easy ones".

Klopp made this quote a way back in one if his interviews. That could not have rung true any more than it did tonight vs Porto. YNWA!

What a fantastic performance. 0-5 away in last 16 of champions league absolute dream land. Every one of them boys done us all proud tonight. Special shout out to Robertson thought he was fantastic. What a team. OH MANE MANE DO DO DO DO DO DO.

{Ed0333's Note - I don’t think Robertson was that good to be honest. He made copious mistakes. The quicker Moreno gets back in the side the better IMO.

14 Feb 2018 22:44:42
I thought Robertson was pretty good Ed, resonably solid, linked up well and put some good balls in to the box. And it was a tough game to make your champ league debut! That being said Moreno coming back could give him a kick up the arse to show a bit more consistency.

14 Feb 2018 23:01:34
Moreno ed that a wind up?

{Ed0333's Note - why would I be winding you up about Moreno? Although not the ideal left back I would much prefer Moreno before Robertson. I’m sorry I don’t concur with the current ritual worship of the deity that is Andrew Robertson.

14 Feb 2018 23:25:16
Got to agree with you ed333, Robbo made several mistakes and was a bit rash also.
One 'challenge' that sticks to my mind is when he missed the ball 3 times in very quick succession (space of a second) by swinging his left foot, then right foot, then left again at the ball but the opposition got past him.
Mane did a better job at defending the left side tonight.

IMO he needs slightly more pace (what Moreno brings)
But did do well still, didn’t get pushed over or off the ball when defending or attacking unless half fouled, and specially going forwards as Bmena said his link up play was good and he did put in some dangerous crosses.

I think because of his City performance we may be expecting a bit too much from him tbf to the lad though 😅.

15 Feb 2018 07:02:19
If you seriously prefer Moreno over Robertson then you really have no clue about football lad.

15 Feb 2018 19:43:54
For me Robbo was fantastic last night. I thought his pace passing a work rate were all top notch. His best game for us imo.

15 Feb 2018 07:57:32
I’m not sure I agree about Moreno Ed. I think Robertson is cooler minded and less rash then Moreno, who tends to give away free kicks in advanced positions. That being said, Moreno helps Mane push forward really well and we have missed that. But hey, there wouldn’t be a banter column without opinions right? 😄.

{Ed0333's Note - and that’s why most of us want to live in a democracy UncleBen because free speech is a birthright.

14 Feb 2018 22:05:45
my and 3 mates are going to the second leg. have it booked months ago and tickets sourced. my good god it will be liverpool 23s out for it.

{Ed0333's Note - maybe the under 11’s

Good win very professional. I seen idiots that criticized Milner and Mane in the live chat. Two idiots should learn to watch football.

{Ed0333's Note - I’m criticizing mane because I don’t think he played well. I’m very happy that he scored 3 and it will do wonders for his confidence and hope this will be a springboard to much better performances from him. But it would be remiss of me to say he’s devoid of criticism

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Feb 2018 22:22:39
Ed, there seems to be something still amiss with him, he doesn’t go at players as much as he did last season and his final ball just isn’t as top class as it used to be. Delighted he bagged 3 but still think he’s missing something.

{Ed0333's Note - yes mate I agree he’s not making players look like their playing with lead in their boots like he was. Maybe it’s a confidence thing maybe it’s a pace issue. I think it’s the latter because I’ve not him skin anyone for ages and he’s had plenty opportunity to do so. I truly hope I’m wrong as he’s my favorite player when firing on all cylinders.

14 Feb 2018 22:31:46
Smashing player but needs that speed and aggression back if he’s too get back to his very best and we’ll need that when we meet better opposition as we proceed through the UCL.

{Ed0333's Note - I will go as far as saying if Mane returns to his blistering best we have a good chance of winning the competition oh and I still believe Salah could execute more composure with his final ball/pass. Get those two elements correct and we’re cooking on gas.

14 Feb 2018 23:32:17
I half agree and disagree with the criticism, for some reason he doesn't seem to want to run at or past players much, like he’s lost his pace or something or confidence in his pace.
But for his second goal he showed he still has hella pace when he blitzed past bobby around the half way line just after bobby done another amazing pass to start the move off.

And for his 3rd his little flick was very well done along with his movement.
I do think he had a great game though besides his lack of direct running and besides the 3 goals. And like I said in then post above this, he defended really really well covering Robbo a lot tonight.

Awesome result.

Absolutely chuffed for Mane!

Sadio Mane reborn.

{Ed0333's Note - not quite he wasn’t great although he scored three.

Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant!

I'm so happy for Mane! If anyone needed some luck to go his way it was him!

To get 5 away goals to a Porto team who have not lost at home in a couple of years is no easy task!

Finish the tie off at Anfield lads!

Fantastic!
