Clyne---Van Dijk-----Matip---Bertrand

Karius/ Lovren/ Lucas/ Milner/ Lallana/ Dolberg/ Lacazette.

Schmeichal? After what He just did with Vardy and co to get Ranieri out? Scumbag has shown hIs true colours.

Bertrand would be a great signing.

Van Dijk, I would personally avoid. Too much of a headless chicken.

Obiang, good player but he would play off the side of the midfield 3. He is not a holding player.

Talisca would be a waste of money. He is no better than Lallana or Gini.

Dolberg is a non starter. Needs to prove more before he gets a look in.

Lacazette if he signed would not be sat on the bench. He would start ahead of any of our front 3.

26 Feb 2017 13:59:27
Not sure about how much Schmeicel was involved in the whole Ranieri saga but he beats our keepers by a mile, plus he's won a title. Just read about the giant Gent keeper too who also look a prospect.
Troublesome position for us that needs to be rectified.

Another one is left back. can't help but wonder how many more points we would have had over Jan if Milner had played in midfield. Bertrand would be great if he ventured away from the South. Another one is Tierney from Celtic, bags of potential and is often mentioned as the most talented home grown player they have produced since Dalglish. One for the future is Sessegnon fromn Fulham at 16.

In midfield we seem to lack real power, DM is a must, look at Leicester and now Chelsea with Kante. Obiang was mentioned but Im sure there are many many options for this position. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Talisca for me replaces Can, he would score more than Lallana and Gini in my opinion, we nearly signed him once before and as a Brazilian would hav emore than enough company in our sqaud.

Dolberg looks like he has huge potential, just threw it in there as the weeks rumours had mentioned him and Klopp in a story. Looking at his videos you can see why. Another one is Mane's team mate Diao at Lazio or Gray from Leicester.

Youre right about Lacazette, not a bench sitter. Another more interesting option there is Maxwell Cornet.

{Ed001's Note - why does Schmeichel beat our keepers by a mile? He is not very good at all. If his dad wasn't a great keeper he would be still in the lower leagues where he belongs. He is better than Migs, I agree, but not by a mile and certainly not worth the attitude.}

26 Feb 2017 14:03:11
Forgot to mention Van Dijk, you may have a point, he also might be way over priced now unless there's a clause.
Sakho looked good, left sided, ideal for partnering with Matip. Not sure what's happened there but its a loss for Liverpool and a huge shame for the player.

26 Feb 2017 14:10:51
Hi Ed001, it was more about his stronger mentality. Not sure about his attitude so I can't comment on that. Strong character and leader for Leicester. Yes he has had his dads name and reputation to help but he has found himself. His distribution and shot stopping is excellent and he's a proven match winner which none of ours have really shown bar the odd penalty save. The match against Seville was an example of how he manages to keep his team in games. I still have high hopes for Karius though all the same.

{Ed001's Note - his distribution has been shocking this season and his shot stopping is not that good. He is loud, but he is not a leader, far from it, or Leicester would not be in so much trouble. His main strength is that he is very sure of himself and never hides, and he will look to deal with crosses when possible.}

27 Feb 2017 13:55:36
No disagrees from me on Obiang mate. He is great. But him and Kante are not really holding midfielders, that was my only point.

Ball winners for sure, but they are more akin to the old fashioned players like Viera, Souness or Keane. Neither an auxiliary defender (as Ed001 once put it), or a number 10 as Gerrard was in his prime. Good, old fashioned, centre mids who can do a bit of everything.

We already have Gini and Hendo in the centre who are going to be mainstays I think. Klopp may well be happy with Coutinho or Lallana in the 3rd position. It would be nice if either Can steps up or we replace him with Obiang though. It is good to have options and versatility in our system. We don't have a midfield power house for bullying opposition teams or more simply surviving in physical battles.

When it gets tough in the centre of the park (Hull, Bournemouth, Swansea or Burnley) we collapse. If teams dare to play against us we will slaughter them. It is the teams that get in our face and make it a more scrappy end to end game that we fail to dispose of. A physical presence like Obiang would be ideal in these types of games. It would stop us being overpowered so easily.

As we have some time before our next game here's a question for you guys and Eds of course.

Which of our players would make it onto a Premier League 11 after the first half (well a little more) of the season.

If you want add your Premier League 11.

David Luiz Cahil Azpilcueta

Mane Kante Herrera Hazard

Costa Ibrahimovic Kane

Hard Pick If it was a 4-4-2 Id have Milner at Left Back been the best there all season.

23 Feb 2017 22:23:26
Bellerin Koscielny Alderwereld
Kante Henderson
Mane Sanchez Hazard.

24 Feb 2017 21:00:18
How the hell can you pick Herrera! Fair play i guess, it is your opinion; however If the officials followed the rules for Man U he would get a red card every other game. Disgusting lack of sportsmanship.

Alderweireld, Luiz, Gibson
Moses, Kante, Dembele, Alonso
Mane, Ibrahimović, Sanchez

Just my opinion mind.

{Ed001's Note - Herrera has been excellent this season. Not sure what you are referring to there.}

24 Feb 2017 21:46:22
Literally every time I have watched him he makes at least 3 yellow card worthy fouls Ed.

He is no doubt a great destroyer, but I just can't sing the praises of a player who is so anti-football. He ruins games for me. That is good for United under Mourinho because if they just let the game flow they get outplayed due to their lack of quality.

The games that stick out the most for me are actually both games vs us. He literally could've had 10 yellow cards across the 2 games if the refs weren't so oblivious to his dirty play.

I'm probably just biased though. If he played for Liverpool, I'd probably be saying he was great at protecting the back 4 lol.

{Ed001's Note - you defo are biased. He is a very good player and does a lot more than break up play.}

25 Feb 2017 08:06:26
I'll try nd put my neutral glasses on for the Cup Final Ed. Will still be wearing a metaphorical Southampton shirt mind!

{Ed001's Note - so will I during the match, but I try my hardest to take out all emotion when analysing players.}

25 Feb 2017 19:14:09
What abut your team ed for the first half of the season.

{Ed001's Note - I will have to do that as an article as I am too tired to think right now mate, sorry.}

Let me get this started. Opinions on what we need to improve our squad squad for next season?

In my humble opinion we have more than enough midfielders and our defence remains our biggest stumbling block. Attack we need some more pace.

Mine would be, another forward with loads of pace and Mane style instinct, one adept CB partner for Matip and two adept fullbacks who are able to provide proper width and contribute to our attack.

We do not need to overhaul the squad, we just need to add first team quality players and 4 new additions will be more than enough to take the competitiveness in our squad to the next level.

Realistic team I can see for next season if we stick to the current system:

Clyne, Matip, Nacho, Tymon
Gini, Hendo, Coutinho
Mane, Firmino, Brandt

Arnold, Lovren, Klavan, Juanma
Can, Stewart, Lallana
Milner, Mariano, Origi

+ Manninger, Gomez, Ejaria, Woodburn, Ings

Still sticking with Clyne MK?

17 Feb 2017 12:01:00
Not by choice Mcgoveb, I don't rate him at all. I just don't think he'll be replaced this summer. Hope I'm wrong and we follow up our scouting of Pereira, currently at Nice on loan from Portugal. He is good player! Either that or just play Arnold!

This is more a predicted team based on current substantiated rumours, than a "what I would do" dream team.

16 Feb 2017 09:46:50
Watching parts of Bayerns play you would imagine that is what Klopp is aiming for, wingers pulling defenders all over the place and always attacking, fullbacks overlapping and firing in great crosses. We are getting there as Mane has been outstanding, just a few more pieces needed.

Great performance today.
However, if we get top 4 I think we have now learned we need to invest in squad depth to maintain the intensity we all love.

Subs/ Squad:
Karius, Trent, lovren, Gomez, Moreno, Gini, Can, Origi, Grujic, Woodburn, Ejaria,

I would also bring in:
Another CB
Another midfielder eg. Dahoud

Would be needed due to volume of games.
Pace upfront from A and M would be frightening for defences.

You are so random sometimes mate. don't know where you come up with your suggested team sheets sometimes :)

12 Feb 2017 17:32:43
I'd go for neuer ahed of Leno mate. 👀.

14 Feb 2017 12:49:07
Why would Aubameyang join us? Please don't say because he's worked with Klopp before, you could then argue Suarez will join Celtic.

16 Feb 2017 22:35:38
Think Barcelona to celtic is a bit different from dortmund to liverpool mate.

11 Feb 2017 10:19:04
I've been looking through the posts and gauging where abouts the fans collectively think we need to strengthen.

So far at LFC Klopp has signed; 2 keepers (Karius and Manninger), 2 centre backs (Matip and Klavan), 2 midfielders (Grujic and Gini), and 1 wide player (Mane) .

He will look to build almost entirely his own team eventually, however he really likes Firmino and Henderson. You only have to listen to interviews to know that!

Additionally, whilst he is playing 4-3-3 currently to make the most of what he has (ie, too many attacking midfielders and no top strikers) his preferred system has always been 4-2-3-1.

Contrary to popular demand, it is far from clear whether Klopp will sign a keeper, centre back, or midfielder this summer; unless they are as replacements for players who were here before Klopp. There are two reasons for this. 1) Klopp is incredibly loyal to his own players. 2) Klopp is incredibly stubborn and won't easily admit faults. In his mind, these areas were addressed last year and going back to address them again is admitting he was wrong.

Manninger, Klavan and Grujic are not starters for various obvious reasons. If any of them leave it will be because it is their decision. Eg Manninger may retire, and Grujic may ask to leave due to broken promises.

Analysing the spine of the team he has thus far you have:

Manninger, Arnold, Gomez, Klavan, Grujic, Woodburn, Ejaria, Origi

That first team is short by a right back, centre back, left back, left winger and striker. Most fans tend to agree we lack a defensive midfielder in the squad, as well as better competition than Mignolet. That is 7 players.

I do not think we will sign all of the above in a single summer though. Klopp seems content with Mignolet, Lovren, Clyne and Can. His priorities will be a striker he can rely on, a left winger to give us more balance and pace, and a proper left back as we missed out last summer. After that we may try and replace Mignolet, Clyne, Can and Lovren, but even then I would not hold my breath.

Aside from Arnold (18), Gomez (19), Ejaria (18), Woodburn (17) and Origi (21) I don't think Klopp would be opposed to selling any of our other young players currently in the first team squad. These are the guys he gives most of the chances too, because these are the guys he can see the most potential in. It is not rocket science as to why Randall (21), Ojo (19), Brannagan (21), Wilson (19) etc are behind younger players in the first team pecking order. As much as we may rate them they are seemingly not currently in Klopp's long term plans. Who knows if they can change that though.

I would not be surprised to see many people go. I don't think Klopp even values Lallana or Coutinho as highly as some think. If big money offers came in I could see both being allowed to leave. Lallana lacks the consistency and mentality we require, and Coutinho as much as I love him has somehow been hyped up to a value that we cannot afford to reject. We are quick to point out that Lallana has not contributed in this baron run, but Coutinho has been far worse (his last league goal/ assist was actually on the 6th of November when we beat Watford 6-1, and he has played in 6 league games since then) . If someone offers the rumoured £50-60m for a wide player now into his mid-twenties who never hits double figures and gets injured for about 2 months of every season, LFC would be nuts to turn it down. He is a fair weather player; one of the key mentality issues in our team. There is no fight in players like Coutinho and Lallana. They are excellent when things are going well, and anonymous when things are going poorly. That doesn't make them bad players, it just means they are suited to playing in teams who can walk 90% of their league games like Bayern, PSG, Juventus or Barcelona. These are players who carry massive value in the current market, but who we would not really struggle to replace with the money they could rake in. They are not up to a Premier League title fight though and new contracts mean nothing in this world.

Klopp will completely change the face of this team over the next few years but he will not throw away his own players after 12 months. He wanted Karius, Matip, Klavan, Gini and Mane. I think Grujic was probably pushed more by Buvac, but don't expect to see them all replaced so swiftly. Klopp is loved by his previous players because of how loyal he is and he won't change.

Rumoured Interest:
Gk - Handanovic, Hart
Rb - Pereira
CB - Tah, Van Dijk
Lb - Robertson, Tymon, Durmisi
Cm - Dahoud, Paredes, Carvalho
Lw - Brandt, Gray, Ziyech
St - Mariano, Jiminez, Aubameyang.

Nice post MK, one that gets you thinking that.

11 Feb 2017 15:33:38
That's a good read MK.

11 Feb 2017 23:20:17
TBH have to disagree with a fair amount of it. think grujic was a mistake (maybe too young) but klavan was brought in as only a back up as we were short. His role has only been made more because of the fall out with Sakho.

As for lallana and coutinho. if the rumoured talks are true about a new deal for lallana than imagine Klopp is a fan, though personally think he could be replaced (not that he isn't a good player just I'd prefer coutinho in his role with a pacy forward) . As for coutinho don't know what you are on about. Doesn't have fight in him!? He is back from an injury but have never seen him not try influence a game. Did he not bring us back into the Arsenal game start of the season? Did his individual brilliance not score a wonder goal to knock united out last season? Did he not score the third in our 3-2 win to city under Rodgers!? Truth is is our only player capable of something special just think now it's more he is better than the players around him.

Don't get me wrong can question his decision making, but is by far our most talented player. Before you say "oh can replace him" think people need to realise there are realistically 10 other positions we can improve on before replacing coutinho. There is a reason he is linked with Barcelona and PSG as oppose to "lower clubs"

12 Feb 2017 22:25:42
Ronaldinho, I think you've misinterpreted me somewhere. I don't think Coutinho needs replacing, but I think he is worth more to the club in cash than he is as a player.

He has 5 league goals though which is pretty shocking to be blunt. I am not suggesting Klopp wants to replace him, or will actively try to do so. I was merely saying that I think Firmino and Henderson are the only previous era players Klopp would issue a hands-off on.

As for Klavan he was bought after the Sakho bust up as a straight replacement. That was explained at the time.

I agree with you on Grujic. I don't see why we didn't just give Brannagan more time if I am honest. Hopefully he proves us all wrong though.

13 Feb 2017 20:57:35
Get your point but disagree entirely. Transfers aren't obvious and I can't think of a realistic target we could get for 50-60m who would be worth more for us than coutinho.

As for goals stats don't tell everything, iniesta and silva don't score much but are worth their weight in gold. Also it's 5 goals in 16 league games. that is actually pretty good for someone who had to deal with a long injury and is seen more as a creative player. Can't remember exactly who it was against but his first game back he came off bench and we looked an entirely different team and looked threatening.

Not saying we are wholly dependent on him as think it is similar with mane, Henderson, and Matip. We have the framework of a great squad and think we need to look to transfers in the most basic way. bring in 1-3 players who improve the first XI and move players who aren't seen as fighting for a first team spot.

10 Feb 2017 15:55:50
It seems that many posters believe that the squad is small. and believe that we should be strengthening by buying players. In order to buy new players we need to have space in the squad or sell to make way for the new player
I guess that the optimum size of squad would be 23ish players. According to the LFC official website we have a squad of 37 players of which 12 are on loan. This does not include TAA who is officially in the academy squad.
We obviously need to get rid of at least 4 players plus the 12 loan players in order to bring in anyone new.

If we look at the squad in depth we find apart from the loan players 3gk 7defenders 10 midfield and 5forwards

None of the3 goalkeepers are goo enough to start so one at least need to be sold in order for a top class keeper to be brought in. My choice would be SM. I would keep LK as a backup

Of the defenders only JM is good enough to start
I think DL and NC are good enough as squad players. I am not sure if JG will make it and RK AM and CR should be sold JM is down as a midfielder

Of the midfielders KS and LL need to leave. KS is not good enough and LL should be given our thanks and best wishes for past service but he is past his best and is taking up a space in the squad. JM is considered as a left back. I am not sure if EC and MG will make it.
SO needs a chance and GW AL JH and PC are genuine 1st team players

Of the strikers only RF and SM are current starters, DO needs to step up DI unfortunately with 2 injuries probably will need too long toget back to his best and DS has lost his speed and probably needs to be sold
From this I am certain that it is going to take JK more than the summer window to make us title chalengers.
