I don't know how anyone can say we should sell coutinho as long as we get good money.

Teams take time to build, develop understanding etc. If we keep losing our best players it will be disruptive to the team.

But if the wee man still wants to go then what can we do?

2.) 03 Jun 2016 10:55:57
Keeping a player against his will sees him less committed to the cause and hence most likely sees his form decline and his value decrease, the two exceptions from recent seasons being Suarez and De Gea.
For 'good money' which I see as £60million, we can bring in another young, talented attacking midfielder- say Draxler, Calhanoglou (spelling.? ), Sane, Brandt. for half the price who is completely committed to the cause, leaving us with money to boost other positions of need.
We would though need to make sure we could attract one of these before flogging Couts- I can't think of a worse situation than selling Coutinho for less than £50million and then being held to ransom by Southampton for Mané, which would leave us with a less talented, older player, and having made little money!

3.) 03 Jun 2016 11:22:46
I don't know Y people think we could buy any player with the money we get from Coutinho. He is a settled player who has formed a decent understanding with the front attackers and midfielders behind him. A Catalayt in all sense. Taking him out from the equation and planting a new tree would take enormous time and the level of expectations to me matched with.
The last thing this club need is another transition with the sale of a very important player.
May be I am wrong.

Hi Ed's,

do you see us actually going for a striker after Firmino signed? He's not an out and out striker but with Sturridge 1st choice, then Ings/Firmino as back up. maybe Origi if he doesn't go out on loan? what are your thoughts.

redkenyan

{Ed001's Note - I still expect us to try and get one other forward yes. The interest in an out and out striker is genuine.}

1.) 24 Jun 2015 09:12:00
Ed. If the interest in an out and out striker is genuine, do you know who the number 1 target is?

{Ed001's Note - I believe it is Bacca now.}

2.) 24 Jun 2015 10:02:51
Ed1 a few days/weeks ago the general view was we should not hold our breath over Bacca - has this changed?

I don't want to get too excited just because we have finally splashed some cash and made a real quality signing (subject to medical. ) but it looks like our aspirations might have changed and our fortunes along with.

What would your view be on the possibilities of

Bacca
Rondon
Kovacic
Coyne

Any others you think may be on the horizon?

I see Lacazzette rumours have surfaced again? I think it's odd if his agent is trying to talk up a move or is more about talking up a pay rise?

Many thanks once again,

Rob.

{Ed001's Note - I would prefer to stick to not holding our breath, as I am extremely superstitious and the one player we signed which I wanted I was not allowing myself to dare to believe it would happen. As for Lacazette, you would be better speaking to Ed002, he would have a much better idea there.

As far as those 4, we are talking over Bacca and Rondon, but it is out there at the Copa this is going on, so really out of my reach in terms of keeping tabs. I, like all of you, are heavily reliant on Ed002 for information there. Kovacic deal is all set up ready to go, but Inter are trying to do other business so they do not have to sell him. I assume you mean Clyne and it was a typo? If so, we seem to have dropped out of that for now. Maybe it will be a deal we will return to after other business is done.}

3.) 24 Jun 2015 10:45:49
Great response there Ed, cheers!

Ed2, would be grateful if you could fill us all in!

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea where you are getting any of this Lacazette stuff from.}

Hi Ed001,
I know you're not a fan of Either Rafa or Brendan, but if you had to pick one of them who would you choose?

redkenyan

{Ed001's Note - I really have to pick one? Brendan might potentially improve in the future, so I will pick him, though I think Rafa could have got us further up the table this season if he had been in charge.}

1.) 08 Apr 2015 11:23:37
Rafa is good at method. he took a largely average squad to a Champions League final twice. Any coach that can make Biscan and Traore look good knows his stuff.

2.) 08 Apr 2015 11:49:46
Well he took Napolly to 6th when many thought they could have been title contenders this season so not sure he would have done better with us

3.) 08 Apr 2015 12:10:49
He spent an absolute fortune on get you second place once, personally I think he's better suited to international management with no transfer market and where his one off big game tactics would be ideal but over 38 games he's a tinker man who just can't leave well alone

4.) 08 Apr 2015 12:21:22
Chelsea did the same with bosingwa, torres and salomon kalou. Blame the manager for buying/keeping the players in the first place.

5.) 08 Apr 2015 12:44:56
I personally think he will replace woy.

I know it's wrong to say this but I was hoping we would lose so that Rodgers gets sacked. Didn't watch the game but from the highlights it looks like we still can't defend properly which has been the case since Brendan joined, this is the main reason I want him out.

He points to the more recent cases of Brazilian midfielder Matuzalem’s protracted transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk to Real Zaragoza and goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis’s abrupt departure from Udinese to join Sevilla, both in the summer of 2007.

"In those cases compensation wasn’t a calculation of the remaining proportion of the wages that should be covered, it was of the actual harm the club suffered," Geey adds. "In the case of De Sanctis it was the replacement cost for Udinese to buy a goalkeeper of similar standing, and in the end the cost of two was included in the calculation."

Ed's is this true? if so, surely it won't be so bad and we should not be so desparate to sell?

redkenyan

{Ed002's Note - The Liverpool fans significantly over-price their players. I am not sure what the going price is for a naïve twenty year old winger who is still developing and has yet to hone his end product.}

It's not one word, it's a long list.

I hate it when people blame it on Gerrard's slip. Brendan was tactically naive, simple as that.

I doubt costa will play 90 mins. why would mourinho risk him against a side with a rubbish defence in the capital one cup?
