Hi Eds, I read that Can is waiting for Liverpool to agree a release clause or similar before he will commit to a new contract.

Ed2 has suggested that they have no legal basis in the UK. I am no expert, could you please explain whether Can is looking for this and if so, why that may be, if they have no basis in the UK?

mikey B

{Ed001's Note - I have not heard anything about him wishing for a release clause sorry.}

1.) 06 Sep 2017 13:23:48
Do you know why Can has not signed a new contract Ed001?
And, in your opinion, do you think he will sign or will he leave for nothing at the end of the season.

Y. N. W. A.

{Ed001's Note - I have answered this a hundred times.}

2.) 06 Sep 2017 14:14:17
He's lost his pen vcromp. Club won't supply a new one and have told him it will come out of Clyne's wages if they have to. Clyne was angry at being dragged into it and retaliated by stabbing Klopp in the thigh with a fountain pen. Klopp lost his cool. Took off his hipster glass and smashed Clyne through the treatment table with a Batista bomb.

Whole situation is messy. Clyne is in a coma, Can still doesn't have a pen, and Klopp is being investigated by the WWE for a dangerous unscripted move.

James Milner, witness to the whole thing, has been quoted as saying "i have a pen he can borrow"

3.) 06 Sep 2017 14:42:08
You are in desperate need of some holidays. Preferably where there is only seas, sun and sand, with no humans around. And plenty of time to reflect on what other interests to pursue aside from football in your free time, because football is bringing out the violent side in you.

4.) 06 Sep 2017 14:42:33
VR he's worried about playing time. He sees Keita has just been signed and he'd be an immediate starter for Juventus. I like the lad a lot, but I think he would be even better in the black and white stripes. I want him to stay however.

5.) 06 Sep 2017 16:19:02
He hasn't signed as non of the incompetants in the lfc player contracts dept has asked him yet.

6.) 06 Sep 2017 16:37:11
If you can't get in liverpools team why would you get in juventus.

{Ed001's Note - because they have told him he will.}

7.) 06 Sep 2017 17:28:11
Just give him the 100 grand a week and a fair release clause and be done with it. Cheaper than buying a replacement and he is going to just keep getting better.

{Ed002's Note - I have not said that they have no legal basis in the UK. You all need to forget about clauses.}

8.) 06 Sep 2017 18:20:03
Accept that he's going. If he was going to stay he would of signed by now. He knows he's not going to be 1st choice next year that's y he's off end of.

9.) 06 Sep 2017 18:36:06
Is that how it works ed1? that's surprised me how a team can guarentee a player he will start all the time.

{Ed001's Note - if a team really wants a player they will do a lot to convince them to join.}

10.) 06 Sep 2017 19:50:01
I think a hundred times is a conservative estimate to be honest but yeah, this must be driving you mad by now.

11.) 06 Sep 2017 21:25:59
Ed didn't we tell Grujic he'd get games among others.

{Ed002's Note - yes and the WP committee.}

12.) 06 Sep 2017 23:14:34
I don't see how any teams can guarantee playing time. If you are looking poor in training you won't be risked in anything other than minor cup games or occasional sub.

13.) 07 Sep 2017 00:03:35
This whole game time thing winds me up. If you want to play then work your nuts off, improve enough so you can't be dropped. That's the only way. If you're going to whinge about not playing instead of knuckling down and working on your game then you can do one as far as I'm concerned.

14.) 07 Sep 2017 01:02:30

Was it just a pen, or an apple-pen?

{Ed001's Note - it was a Mont-Blanc mate. Apple pen my arse, footballers don't want cheap tat like that!}

15.) 07 Sep 2017 01:21:16
Cant they give him say £2m lump sum to sign new contract. Then sell for £40m. Rather than squabble and lose him for free or £20m in jan.

16.) 07 Sep 2017 05:16:33
Something is very very wrong if we can't give our best midfielder the same guarantees as Juventus.

17.) 07 Sep 2017 06:56:33
Haizan, unsubstantiated reports this morning are suggesting the the fountain pen removed from Jurgen's thigh has the words "From Brazil with love" inscribed down the side.

Coutinho has denied any involvement but there was a bank transfer of £7.56 between himself and Clyne just 2 days ago.

The plot thickens.

18.) 07 Sep 2017 08:05:10
i think you may have missed what Haizan was trying to say ed001.

i believe he was referring to a viral video named Pen Pineapple Apple Pen.

i may be wrong, bt u didn't hear this from me. its a horrible video. don't watch it. just dont.

{Ed001's Note - erm.....}

19.) 07 Sep 2017 08:32:27
I have a pen,
I have an apple,
Apple Pen!

I have a pen,
I have pineapple,
Pineapple pen!

Pen pineapple, apple pen!

Yeah don't watch it Ed001. It ruins your social life. I haven't been out in 6 months.

{Ed001's Note - I am really getting worried for people's sanity.}

20.) 07 Sep 2017 08:42:08
It's the best song to come out of Asia since 'Gangnam style' mate!

21.) 07 Sep 2017 10:12:09
Any team can promise a player game time doesn't mean to say he will get it once he signs a 5 year deal. and i had to laugh when someone said our Best midfielder i have said it a few times he isn't fit to wear the shirt he has had a handful of good games since he got here. let him go in January, but of course he can talk to any foreign clubs in Jan and sign a pre contract agreement to sign in the summer. players come and go but the team is the most important. YNWA.

22.) 07 Sep 2017 12:04:53
MK Scouser, thanks for your WWe based comment, I've had a shitty day at work and that made me giggle.

23.) 07 Sep 2017 12:07:36
Hope he stays, if even for the future transition of hendo, lallana and Milner. Hope he is looking at that and seeing he, along with keita are the very near future engine room for liverpool.

24.) 07 Sep 2017 12:16:06
Jack Bezants from Mailonline (Don't shoot me) insists the issue with Can's contract is a release clause.

It could be that he wants a release clause, in case he does not get the game time he desires - giving him a way out.

25.) 07 Sep 2017 12:47:43
Even if the club agree to a clause something i can't see them being against as it would mean they would recieve a fee when he moves on there will be a multitude of excuses for not signing. can has had no intention of signing for a long time. complete stupidity by lfc lettin it get this far. edwards is world class according to werner.

26.) 07 Sep 2017 16:14:57
I think we've misinterpreted why MK mentioned the pen.

It was "iron" -it was firm, it was mineral. No, no, no, that's stupid. It was. It was firm, it was adamant, it was resolved.

It was resolved.

Jurgen Klopp used the Pen to sign the Declaration of Independence :o.

27.) 07 Sep 2017 20:33:25
Didt Glenda Johnson have a appearance clause in his contract guaranteeing him playing time.

28.) 08 Sep 2017 02:47:51
Wish Can reads this and runs away to Juventus with his pen, apple and pineapple.

This site should be thanked for making space for others.

29.) 08 Sep 2017 06:34:06
I players wanting assurances that they are being signed as a starting player, to be played in their regular position and no plans to sign other starting players in same role; is being confused with a player expecting to play regardless. I don't think even footballers think they will play every game regardless, (with some very few exceptions) and I would expect they understand the flip side of that would be the manager would be able to say they have to play even when they don't want to. It is not so different to any of us going for a job where they give a range of roles and we want to understand what the split of our time is likely to be. You don't sign to be benching or out of position and back up if you want to be playing regularly. Can as the Eds have said sees that as what he'd be signing up to at LFC.

10 Dec 2016 16:09:29
I hear rumours that West Ham are considering a bid for Sturridge. Is this likely and would Liverpool and the player consider it?

I love him but he is not a Klopp first team player.

If he were to go do you think Liverpool would replace him or wait till Summer?

mikey B

1.) 11 Dec 2016 09:33:38
No chance.

2.) 12 Dec 2016 08:40:47
I think it is likely and i think should they bid we'd be daft to not consider it.

21 Jun 2016 11:33:51

I hear coutinho is off to PSG. They seem to buy all Brazilians. Is this true and likely to happen?

mikey B

1.) 21 Jun 2016 12:42:07
Sure they can have him. For £65 mil.

2.) 21 Jun 2016 15:19:03
You say that like they wouldn't pay that for him natural. wouldn't even dent their funds.
Was Coutinho playing in Copa America before Brazil were knocked out?
Not seen mich of the Euros never mind the Copa America, was wondering about his form for Brazil because he didn't have a sensational season for us. Played well but also went missing for patches.

3.) 21 Jun 2016 15:46:33
He did score a hat trick. granted it was in a 7-1 route of Haiti.

4.) 21 Jun 2016 15:50:24
I'm saying that as a figure (in my mind) I'd be happy with. A figure I believe would allow us to not only reinvest, but improve.
On the other hand. I clearly don't want to lose our best player.

5.) 21 Jun 2016 16:37:14
Depends how you define "best" player someone who turns up every 6th week then yep he's nailed it.

6.) 21 Jun 2016 17:18:47
after reading the posts on here about Couthino it seems no matter what he does he is doing something wrong, he is a young lad and played so many games for us last season and you could see that the last few games of the season he was feeling jaded, he gets stick because he does not score enough goals, so when he starts shooting he then gets stick about not assisting in many goals, so we can't have both from a young player, for me he is our best player and will get better, if we sell him he will leave a big hole that will be hard to fill, I've watched him play and he never gets any credit for winning the ball back which he does a lot, but like suarez because he is good the big teams are looking at him, he has come out and said he is happy at the club and likes playing for Klopp, plus what Klopp does is gets the best out of players and makes them better players as we seen when he became our manager because a lot of players were not playing that good but when Klopp came he got the best out of them, you only have to look at the way Lovren got better, at one point a lot of fans wanted him gone because he was not playing that good but after klopp got into him he was one of the most improved players at the end of the season because Lovren and Sakho became our main CB pairing who played well with each other so i say let's give Couthino another season under Klopp and because we have no european football he won't play as many games so we will see the best of him, he is not like hendo or milner who have good engines on them he's just not like that but he is our best player imo so we should keep him.

7.) 21 Jun 2016 18:08:05
65 million so we can waste it on mid table players that had 1 decent season yet again.

8.) 21 Jun 2016 18:46:35
Yipster, I'm sensing an underlying sentiment here. 😬😬😬.

9.) 21 Jun 2016 21:07:11
Coutinho - great pro, great talent, young lad who has yet to reach his peak.

PSG can go and whistle.

10.) 22 Jun 2016 00:02:35
He was the best of a severely poor excuse for a Selecao team. PSG ain't paying 65m for him especially if he's not their first or second choice.

11.) 22 Jun 2016 14:13:09
If you think we're going to get £65 million for Coutinho then you need rehab.

22 Apr 2019 22:52:09
Hi, will Milner extend his contract. I like him in our squad, he would also become a good coach (IMO)

mikey B

{Ed002's Note - I don't think there is any offer to do so.}

1.) 22 Apr 2019 23:36:50
If Leeds get promoted I'm sure he'd love to go back to them.

2.) 23 Apr 2019 07:10:13
Looks like Leeds are tailing off at the wrong time, the playoffs look likely for them now.

3.) 23 Apr 2019 09:39:09
I recall reading something about a one year extension already existing in his contract, should it be exercised, on here. I could be wrong.

4.) 23 Apr 2019 19:15:33
I think i recall that too aray1969.

Milner came to lfc to win trophies, he hasn't done that (unluckily) we've lost 3 finals. I don't see him leaving without fulfilling his aim. And conversely, i don't see him leaving if we are European champions or premier league champions.

We all know he is one of the fittest players at the club (amazingly) and can go on for at least 4 more years. There is plenty pf time for him to finish his career with his boyhood club.

Therefore, i don't see him leaving this summer. Who (if they are playing regularly) would want to leave this team? Back in the European elite, miles ahead of everyone but city. Who i think we have caught up with and will, imo, go on to overtake them.

They have great players, so do we but we have a great TEAM. We all know which is more important.

06 Apr 2019 04:42:53
I would rather we win the league, as opposed to the European Cup. Yet I don't want us to field a weakened side vs Porto. I am so glad I am a supporter (and massively a supporter of Klopp) but some guys need a rest. He earns his dollar by taking the call, but I would rest Van D and Salah. What do you guys think?

I reiterate that my opinion counts for sweet fa.

mikey B

1.) 06 Apr 2019 06:03:13
How about we give Porto a hiding at Anfield and then field a slightly weakened team in Portugal?
What's the point of qualifying for the UCL if we won't even try to win it? We have already thrown the domestic cup competitions, so competing on two fronts should be no big deal for the squad we have.

2.) 06 Apr 2019 06:31:48
Salah just had 2 weeks off over the international break, why does he need a rest?

{Ed001's Note - it was to get him fit for all these games he was given the rest, I am with you SH. The last one who needs a rest right now is Salah, especially after scoring, he needs to be let loose to get his groove back, so to speak.}

3.) 06 Apr 2019 06:40:30
Why should we be fielding weakened sides? Doing that against Wolves started off a bad run of form earlier in the season.

4.) 06 Apr 2019 07:11:27
When it comes to the front 3, we need to play them every game as long as they are match fit. Resting them now for random games will just kill the momentum of the 3 players that we probably need the most for the title run in.
Not to mention our team has a history of being p*** poor after a break or warm weather camp or what not. Play them as much as possible and momentum will then be on our side.

5.) 06 Apr 2019 07:45:08
We should be fielding the strongest team possible every single game now imo both in the league and the CL because we're capable of winning both competitions. As for Salah, I think that goal lastnight will of increased the confidence he desperately needed, watch him go now. We need him on every single game, he's too important to leave out.

6.) 06 Apr 2019 08:39:20
As they saying goes in it to win it!

7.) 06 Apr 2019 08:39:56
Maximum of 10 games left.
Play to win them all 👍.

8.) 06 Apr 2019 09:21:24
Klopp fielded a weakened team last night by including Keita in the midfield. Up until his goal he was nowhere to be seen, out of position, not showing for the ball, and we were overrun in midfield. It looked like Robbo had a word with him and he just signalled as if he wasn't interested. Wijnaldum didn't have his usual intensity either and looked shattered, if anyone needs a rest it's probably him. Milner and Hendo deserve to be in that midfield alongside Fabinho. Their aggression and intensity could be key for us in the run down.

9.) 06 Apr 2019 09:38:50
Im convinced klopp didn't want to be in the fa or league cup.

10.) 06 Apr 2019 09:53:41
Players like:
Lallana and
Origi have all upped their game. We have a squad capable of winning the big double. I really think we have a chance at the ucl. And i think the league is ours. We are winning despite going down a goal, despite not playing brilliantly. We are getting it done.

Spurs and utd both have a serious fight on their hands and i think one, if not both, will take points from city.

Imo, if we beat chelsea, we win it. (although wolves will be a stiff test, they're no bayern munich though)

11.) 06 Apr 2019 10:02:25
I thought kieta offered something different down the left. I think he and mane obviously get on and mane's form may have had something to do with keita's start.

12.) 06 Apr 2019 10:08:56
Origi has proved to me he can cover the front three. Also lallana has play3d well in the flase 9 or cm.

Batter porto at anfield and bring on origi and lallana for the away game.

13.) 06 Apr 2019 13:50:02
I'm sorry, Why should there be a preference btw the CL and PL, exactly? That makes NO sense. Who plays the CL QF's without trying to win it? This is the same pathetic question of "Which would you prefer to win? CL or PL? " that the media ask ONLY Klopp BUT never any other manager. Is anyone asking Pep which he would prefer? Or is anyone asking OGS if he would prefer top 4 or just going all out to win the CL? This is why Klopp gets pissed off when reporters ask this very same question. Klopp is here to win both these trophies and is giving them a right go, end of story.

Whatever lineup he picks will be strong enuff to handle both cos unlike previous seasons, we have enuff depth to handle both. Those players like Wiji or Robbo (who will get his break via suspension vs Porto) will get a break. The others? No breaks. This is money time as they say in the NBA and EVERYONE not needing a break should be ALL in, no exceptions.

15 Jan 2019 21:26:20
I just heard there is a helicopter en route to Melwood. It is collecting Jurgen Klopp to take him to Westminster.

Apparently the UK has decided to sign a decent Manager and lead us all to success.

You heard it here first boys!

mikey B

1.) 15 Jan 2019 22:26:34
It'd be a bad appointment mate, he want's to keep us IN Europe, I want out! ;) .

2.) 16 Jan 2019 00:15:46
No chance - I heard he staying in Liverpool to lead the LEXIT campaign so Liverpool can establish itself as an independent state and LFC can go on to be the first club to win the World Cup!

3.) 16 Jan 2019 02:54:15
OMG Salah. You just fell so far in my estimation. The best deal for Britain is to remain, as Liverpool itself voted. Truly surprised by your comments.

4.) 16 Jan 2019 04:29:31
The helicopter you saw was the Babble copter and it landed at craven cottage.

5.) 16 Jan 2019 05:46:34
I'm with ND on this, surprised anyone thinks leaving the EU will be anything but disastrous.

6.) 16 Jan 2019 06:56:23
I'm with you Salah 😉.

7.) 16 Jan 2019 06:58:24
Also why would you be surprised Seano. The majority of the UK voted leave. I'm surprised that you're surprised.

{Ed002's Note - The majority of the UK did not vote to leave.}

8.) 16 Jan 2019 07:07:58
Surprised by me wanting to be out ND, that's fair enough mate, we all have our own views do we not lol? Luckily 17.4 million others shared my views :) . I'm certainly not going to look at you any different because you want to remain!

9.) 16 Jan 2019 07:12:02
Anyway, back to football 😃.

10.) 16 Jan 2019 07:22:23
Yeh I want out too .
That’s one job we wouldn’t want Jurgen to get!

11.) 16 Jan 2019 08:01:50
Those who cared enough and were able to vote.

{Ed002's Note - Right.}

12.) 16 Jan 2019 08:13:12
Oh god. Not actual politics please. Half the time we can’t agree on a team formation let alone what the country should be doing! Let’s stick to footy.

13.) 16 Jan 2019 09:02:04
This week’s Brexit is last week’s curry fart. It’ll all blow over soon enough and few of us will notice any real difference.

14.) 16 Jan 2019 09:25:50
Yes SGRed. I live overseas now and am often ask if I'm English. I say "actually I'm from Liverpool, it just happens to be in England. "

15.) 16 Jan 2019 10:28:03
Haha Burkey. I actually think we’d have a shot of allowed to play at the WC!

13 Jan 2019 12:46:22
Please help.
My son turns 6 on the 30th Jan. He wants a Mo Salah home shirt, ideally ling sleeve. The club shop is out of stock on all kids home kit, as is Sports direct etc.

I have drawn blanks, does anybody know a reputable and reliable source? Need age 7 to 8 size as he is pretty tall?

Pls help, I had an order all paid for but just had money returned as there is no stock.

mikey B

1.) 13 Jan 2019 13:33:24
Mikey the best place to get full kits for kids is dhgate. com I've been getting them for years and only €14 for a full kit socks togs and top name and number. The only down side is that it take 3 weeks normally but great value and good quality.

2.) 13 Jan 2019 13:44:54
Mickey, can you not buy a plain kids Liverpool shirt (new balance site) for his age and then take it to be embroidered with Salah’s name yourself?

3.) 13 Jan 2019 14:26:22
eBay have home kits, size small ( not sure how big your lad is ) £29.99 with Salah on the back.

4.) 13 Jan 2019 17:38:15
Deisered, is spot on, that's the place to go mate, he put me onto it ages ago.

5.) 13 Jan 2019 19:53:33

DW Sports have kids LFC kits on their website and you can add players name.

6.) 13 Jan 2019 19:37:42
They are fake though. from Thailand.

14 Aug 2018 09:02:30
Ok, thoughts for the day, if the current squad lined up against the squad that came 2nd in the league under Benitez, who would win?

Team and manager evaluations?

It's a tough one!

mikey B

1.) 14 Aug 2018 10:02:49
This one, don’t get everyone’s hang up with Benitez. Yes he’s good tactically and a nice bloke but let’s be honest he left us in a worse state than when he took over. For all the top signings he made he made 4/ 5 bad ones, despite spending a lot of money always moaned he wasn’t backed.
Don’t get me wrong I like the bloke it it was right to let him go and I’ve taken my blinkers off.

2.) 14 Aug 2018 10:20:10
Whilst I too think this team would win, I have no idea where Pegleg is coming from😂.

3.) 14 Aug 2018 10:23:16
Agree with the questionable signings, but he's a hero for more than just football in my book, plus he won us the only champions league I've ever seen and didn't deserve the treatment he recieved towards the end of his tenure. Man deserves a medal for what he's done with that Newcastle team as well 👍.

4.) 14 Aug 2018 10:45:40
Don’t get me wrong I love Benitez as a bloke and is one of my favourite managers. But he also has his downfalls which people forget.

5.) 14 Aug 2018 11:24:29
Alisson-A. Arnold-Lovren-VanDijk-Robertson-Fabinho-Henderson-Keita-Salah-Mane-Firmino > Reina-Arbeloa-Carragher-Agger-Aurelio-Alonso-Mascherano-Kuyt-Gerrard-Benayoun-Torres.

For me a match between them will end 4 (Salah, Mane, Salah, Firmino. ) -3 (Gerrard, Torres, Torres. )

Klopp Keeper is better
Rafa Defenders are better.
Rafa Middlefields are better.
Klopp Attackers are better.

Rafa was a great tactician and Klopp a great motivator.
Rafa played Counter-Attacking Football and Klopp Counter-Pressing Football.

Klopp has FSG and Rafa George and Gillet? (Dont remember)

6.) 14 Aug 2018 11:31:50
Klopp has been given the money to sign the players he wants, a lot of Benitez's signings were replacements for his preferred signings that the board wouldn't buy so he didn't have it easy. Don't forget he'd agreed terms with David Silva and David villa before Hicks and Gillette pulled the plug on the deals, there may have been others that we don't know about so it's a bit harsh to say he signed so many flops when he wasn't given the backing klopp has been. Imagine the team we could have had if FSG was backing the cub then as they are now.

{Ed001's Note - that was not G&H that pulled the plug on those signings, it was Prick Parry.}

7.) 14 Aug 2018 11:32:11
Doesn’t every manager have their downfalls, mistakes?
Don’t forget who owned the club when benitez was our manager.
I’ll never understand what went on with the Alonso situation, that is one thing that will stick in my mind during Benitez reign, but he won us champions league and we had a brilliant team, big difference for me between the team and mangers then and now is the style of play, I feel more confident when we play now if a good result, I’m not as nervous now, and I think we have a much better squad in general, but I can’t see how any one can say Benitez wasn’t on whole a good manager for us, he deserves the respect from us fans.

I’d have to say though that our current team and style of play is better now than then, but I also think football has changed massively since then.

8.) 14 Aug 2018 11:37:53
Ah sorry Ed you are right it was Parry, got confused, but still stands that I believe Benitez's could have built just as exciting squad then if the backing was the same.

{Ed001's Note - but Klopp never had all his first choices either, Mo Salah ring a bell? The difference was he actually had back up options worth going for, rather than dross that he had never seen play like Rafa did. Klopp has had to earn the backing and prove he deserved it, plus he is only trying to buy 3 or 4 a season. Rafa wanted a whole new team every year, no club could afford to buy that many. He was a big part of the problem that the club suffered financially.}

9.) 14 Aug 2018 11:48:44
Agree with most of what has been already said, less so with pegleg tbh but some valid points. But total respect for Rafa! For me he showed me how to believe and brought back big ears and passion.

Do think it would be close game but Klopp and current squad just edge it and I prefer current style and type of football, just more entertaining even if it was a draw.

Would also agree that football in general has changed, no one was winning the league with 100 points back in Rafa days or scoring the amount of goals, nor earning and spending the money that’s involved now days

But great question and interesting debate.

10.) 14 Aug 2018 11:53:11
All managers have got their downfall who isn't? Even Fergie one of the Greatest manager of he's time always struggled in Europe.

I love klopp but let's not forget he still hasn't won anything.

11.) 14 Aug 2018 11:55:26
Pegleg I think you need to read the question again. For me it's Rafa. This team hasn't come 2nd yet and to be honest where still miles of last season. Rafa came mighty close and plenty would argue that we should have won it really. 86 goals for and 27 against. No Liverpool team has come close to that and certainly not Klopps. Rafa was a master at setting up the whole team from back to front, Even with some average players. He knew how to get it done.

12.) 14 Aug 2018 12:03:12
While i agree Rafa was decent, the fans forget over time that the football played under him wasnt very attractive at all. you can't really compare era's.
i am just happy to see the style of football that Klopps team plays. I don't think this team has to win anything to be admired its just a delight to watch.
long may it continue.

13.) 14 Aug 2018 12:14:38
Hi Ed,

I know we ask you for a lot, but when you get an opportunity would you be able to write an article on Rick Parry and his shortcomings as a chief executive? As fans, we always hope for the best and always believe that things will take a turn for the better, which is probably why we love Klopp so much. But it is equally fascinating to read about where the club has made mistakes in the past in terms of its running, and particularly with regard to transfer dealings.

Apologies if one has already been written and available on the site already.

{Ed001's Note - I have added it to the to do list mate.}

14.) 14 Aug 2018 13:14:23
I love Rafa for Instanbul of course it let’s be honest the football we played was boring. I remember being excited in the 2nd half of the 2008/ 2009 season when it was largely down to Gerrard and Torres being unplayable but aside from that Rafa’s teams would set up just as Mourinho sets up Utd now. Don’t lose first then hope for a win.
Klopp goes out to win. We are much more attractive and exciting these days I’d much rather us try to blow teams away even if it doesn’t always work.

15.) 14 Aug 2018 13:21:24
What's all this "let's not be rude to rafa?! " The guy is a living legend. He won us the European cup. We have a really good team at the moment but it's too soon to know if they're great. I hate to break it to you guys but they haven't won anything yet. A fully fit torres would get in our team as would Gerrard and alonso and mach.

I get the excitement around our team. Keita looks brilliant, the front 3 as hungry as ever but until they win something they will never be written on the same page of history as the 04/ 05 team.

16.) 14 Aug 2018 14:25:21
This team is the better team and it's as simple as that. We're very close to lifting trophies. Klopp will be a Liverpool legend and once we have that winning mentality, I'd like to see any team try to knock us off our perch, we have a hell of a lot to be excited about because the team we have now, is one of the best we've had for years.

17.) 14 Aug 2018 15:02:46
It is very early to say on this one, but it certainly looks like this team has the potential to be the best Liverpool team of the Premiership era. The only way to prove it beyond doubt in my opinion is to go a step further than Rafa's team and be crowned champions at the end of the season but for now I will have to stick with Rafa's boys.

18.) 14 Aug 2018 17:44:14
I love the debate. Personally I think Rafa had the better team, Alonso, Gerrard and Mascherano could dominate any midfield in the world. They could unlock a defence and Torres would finish.

That said, ask the question at the end of this season and see how it looks then.

19.) 14 Aug 2018 18:43:42
Irish Rover, "This team has never gotten 2nd before". What on earth does that even mean? What does coming second get you exactly? I know, it gets you first place in LoserLand. Rafa bottled the PL that season like BR after him, plain and simple. We were ahead at Christmas with Chelsea, Arsenal and to a lesser extent, Utd as a non factor. What happened next? He started hyping himself up and getting into public rants about the owners and airing our dirty laundry. Then, we started drawing games cos Rafa would make strange subs, saving players for the next CL game instead of securing the win and then the game would end in a draw. Remember that?

Also, you say we got 86 points with 27 goals against. You conveniently forgot to mention that tho we only lost twice that season, we drew ELEVEN times that season which eventually cost us the PL cos Rafa often played not to lose with his tactics and would rather draw a game than lose it. Rafa was also useless in the transfer market and Ed has alluded to that as well.

IMO, Klopp's team currently, would wipe the floor with Rafa's team of '09 cos that team does not have the legs to match this team and that front 2 of SG/ Nando are NOT even in the same league as the front 3 we have now, the deadliest front 3 in all of Europe n arguably better than City's in the PL. Rafa won things with us and credit to him BUT the revisionist history of his tenure is becoming pathetic as people seem to act as if the rest of us have short memories. WE DON'T! As Ed01 eloquently said, Rafa was a HUGE part of the problem and even I knew that back then.

20.) 14 Aug 2018 19:43:39
BRover I think you need to read the question again instead of posting out of your backside. I will help you tho, QUESTION! "Ok, thoughts for the day, if the current squad lined up against the squad that came 2nd in the league under Benitez, who would win? "

21.) 14 Aug 2018 19:48:00
So you are slating Rafa for not losing? How many times did Klopp lose last year? How many goals did his exciting team score compared to Race's, how many did they concede? More importantly, how many trophies has Klopp won with his team? Loserland! Your words not mine! 😉.

22.) 14 Aug 2018 22:00:47
Rafa may not have won much, but sometimes the best teams don’t win! His team at their peak won nothing but we’re easily better than the team which won the CL in 05. Rafas team in the late 00’s was one of the best in the world, probs top 5 along with the Spanish, Utd and Chelsea at that time. We were brilliant. Now the team we have now is looking good, but they haven’t been consistent enough yet. Maybe by the end of this season i’ll have a different opinion.

23.) 15 Aug 2018 12:33:25
08/ 09 is the best Liverpool team I've seen, this team will have to play well this season to get close to them.

24.) 17 Aug 2018 20:55:03
Irish, I addressed who would win so don't know what you are on about there. Also, goals being conceded and scored, is a subject you brought up, I did not. Maybe cos they are pointless arguments.
I saw your post and your revisionist history of Rafa'a time is what is pathetic. Stay on topic, pls. Rafa was the reason we lost the PL that season, just like BR was in 2014, plain and simple. And YES,

I'm blaming Rafa for not losing. Why? Cos if you play not to lose, you will rarely ever win. How do we know that? Rafa had ELEVEN draws that season despite just losing only twice. Had he gone for the win in those games esp. with the so called "great team we had", pretty sure we would have turned some of those 11 draws into wins. I see you did not address any of that in your reply. Unlike you, I am not blind neither do I have a short memory. Rafa's team had NO depth, no balance and had only 13 good players in it after pending a fortune on transfers.

Rafa essentially had a two man (Gerrard and Torres) team and spent loads of cash on dross, end o story. Klopp's team is not the finished article yet and as things stand now, he has the better all round, more balanced team (VVD alone, is better than all his CB's bar Hyppia, for instance) and I stand by my prediction. Klopp's team will wipe the floor with Rafa's team. Peace!

I was a kid in the Liverpool v Everton FA cup final in 1986. My dad took me to the team hotel where Everton were staying before the final. I met most of the players including Tony Cottee and big nev.

Big Nev let me (aged 7) take penalties against him in the car park - a couple of hours before they left for the match. Ill never forget it, good lad!

Met him again when I was aged 35 at a charity football tournament where he was playing for a vets team and I had a team out. I asked him if I could take a pen then, but he wouldn't have a bar of it!
