eds just wondering has there been any more news on manger candidates mentioned for if or when Rodgers goes at the end of the season? I recall Ed002 saying de boer and don't rule out rafa anyone else in the rekoning? cheers

mike g

{Ed001's Note - too early to be sure right now. It all comes down to what system is finally settled on and if a DoF is brought in, who he recommends.}

1.) 16 Feb 2015 12:10:39
So the club is actually looking to replace Brendan?

{Ed001's Note - nothing is decided, that is the whole point. The review is still ongoing, it is a major undertaking to review a whole football club's operations in the Premier League era. They are international corporations in the modern era and everything is being revamped and modernised to improve Liverpool's chances of competing in the long term. The footballing side is part of that process and Rodgers will have to accept changes, at the very least.}

2.) 16 Feb 2015 12:16:32
I cnt see fsg getin rid of rodgers he's got a settled team making massive progress right now and who is better than him frank de boer? Klopp? Not at this moment

3.) 16 Feb 2015 12:23:53
Right mate, misunderstood your first post! I really hope we stick with Brendan, because in my opinion he's a great manager! Hopefully he'll accept if changes are made for the benefit of the clubs future and progress! Cheers for your reply mate!

{Ed001's Note - I would hope so, as a coach there are not many better, it is the management side he falls down on. I don't understand his desire to be a manager anyway, after all his claimed ambition is to manage Madrid or Barca, neither of which would hire a manager. They both use the head coach model.}

4.) 16 Feb 2015 12:33:32
I totally agree with your sentiments! He's a fantastic coach, especially with young talented players! That's one of the reasons I can't see FSG replacing him, with the owners youth policy!
You say that it's the management side of things that BR is failing at, what do you mean by that?

{Ed001's Note - the discussion of things that should be kept confidential in the media, the taking credit for everything good that happens while blaming others for everything that goes wrong, the long term planning for youth players.
So far he has been warned numerous times over his comments to the media and asked not to say so much. He is still continuing to open his mouth out of turn.
He takes the credit for every good performance by a player, rather than just saying it is a reward for their hard work on the training ground or similar. His praise for them is always aimed at bigging up his part in it. Long term that is not the way to make a player perform for you, a manager should be there to shield a player from flak and give them the credit for the good performances.
When players are not performing, he piles on the pressure with his comments about them, rather than looking to shield them. It makes it difficult to trust your manager when he does it every time. He needs to learn to pick and choose when to call out a player on his performance, the way Mourinho does. It should be one of those things you do very rarely, so they know when it happens that they really have stepped over a line.
The transfers had to be taken out of his hands he had made such a mess of them.
His management of young players was poor, only using them when he has to. The summer being a case in point, getting two right backs out of the club so he could loan one in. That has led to pressure to change, hence the recall of Ibe and subsequent usage of him. He is now being reminded of his promises to look to the youth first, only buying when there isn't an option there to choose.
That is what I mean by management. A head coach just gets the players playing well in the system set out for him, that is something Rodgers is excellent at. Managing a club is clearly too much for him, and that is no shame, as I personally believe that Premier League clubs are too big for a manager in the modern era.}

5.) 16 Feb 2015 12:36:36
Ed001, I don't know if excited is the right word but are you excited by this on-going review? What I mean to say is do you expect it to bear fruits in the coming season and should we as fans look forward to the changes that might/will happen with regards to the running of the club?

Thanks Ed.

{Ed001's Note - I am nervous about it to be honest. There have been too many false dawns at the club, I fear this will be another, as the kind of people that are well respected in the US are people like Klinsmann. I really hope they don't seek to consult people like that or we will be in serious trouble as he is clueless.}

6.) 16 Feb 2015 12:55:56
Okey, I see your point!
Thank you for your reply! Much appreciated!
One last question for you mate, do you reckon we'll qualify for the Champions League this season? Either through a top four finish or through winning the Europa League?

{Ed001's Note - I am going to have to say no, as I am too superstitious to say yes!}

7.) 16 Feb 2015 13:20:01
Haha okey, cheers mate :)
I feel fairly confident about reaching the Champions League to be honest! We're in good form as always during the second part of the season! But hey, I'm always over optimistic ;)

Have a great day! Thanks again for the info!

{Ed001's Note - you are welcome mate, enjoy your day and I hope you are right.}

8.) 16 Feb 2015 13:48:54
Ed really interesting insight. Have to ask tho the negative points you mentioned do you think his age is on his side and is something he will develop? Or is he too stubborn and it will be to the detriment of the club hope he'll develop. Personally would love to see him work out well for the club- but not sure if it's because I've just bought in to his blagging!

{Ed001's Note - I don't think he will learn on those, which is why I would like to see those things taken out of his hands and put in the hands of a DoF.}

9.) 16 Feb 2015 16:14:46
Who would be your ideal Dof at this moment in time ed? and do you think fsg will look to someone who adopts the same style of play as were currently utilizing?

{Ed002's Note - The director of football will not be interfering with the style of play and much would depend on who the manager is going to be. If Rodgers stays someone like ex-referee Lubos Michel might be suitable. He is getting a very good reputation at Shakhtar Donetsk.}

10.) 16 Feb 2015 18:33:29
Would Nicola Cortese be an option? Did an excellent job at Southampton and a very good negotiator, both clubs have a similar model in terms of business strategy and recruitment policy.

{Ed001's Note - he is not a DoF and he left Southampton a bit of a mess.}

11.) 16 Feb 2015 21:32:10
Well, I thought Lubos Michel works as head of the international competitions department in Donetsk, not DoF. He looks good in diplomacy, don't know much about his management skills. Why do you think Ed it would be good partnership MichelRodgers? Thanks

{Ed002's Note - I answered the question - I am not going to get in to rationalising.}

12.) 17 Feb 2015 08:02:33
Ed I seen a coach gets the players to play a system set out for them but in my opinion the coach has to pick the system

Did I take it up wrong? ? ?

{Ed001's Note - it depends on the coach and his responsibilities. At clubs Cruyff takes charge of, the head coach follows the tactics he sets out and is responsible for teaching the players how to play it. At other clubs, such as Chelsea and Man City, the head coach picks the tactics and trains the players how to play it. There is no one size fits all.}

11 Aug 2014 19:50:43
Ed002 could explain the mangla signing at city its being said they have only bought 56% of his image rights I though in England u had to own the full amount cheers

mike g

{Ed002's Note - Firstly ownership rights and not image rights are the issue that needs to be considered. You cannot have third party ownership of players playing in England. It means that if they have what is called third party owner, which might be a group of investors, might be another club, that has to be resolved before they play in England. A number of countries do not allow third party ownership, like England, and it can make transfers complicated. The registration of the player stays with the club - so, for example, the owners cannot force Benfica to sell Rodrigo, but they can control the asking price.

Markovic is a good example where the club only owned half of the player - Liverpool needed to pay for that half and the other half owned by a third party - plus some pretty steep agent and representative fees.}

07 Jul 2014 08:15:15
Ed002 u say Chelsea have first option on marcovic what is this how has it come about sorry if I may be being a little slow ha cheers

mike g

{Ed002's Note - I am pretty certain I never said those words. Benfica only own 50% of the player. There is a consideration included in the player's contract that Chelsea may buy his rights at a fixed price if a club make an offer that is acceptable to Benfica. Chelsea can opt not to do this if they so wish and the entire rights to the player could be sold on.}

1.) 07 Jul 2014 11:34:17
If chelsea bid could our bid be accepted too or would ours have to be rejected?

Would it be the players choice which club he'd want to join or would it not be in his hands?

{Ed002's Note - Done to death.}

2.) Thanks ed how does this happen though was it through another deal that they had this clause ritten in? cheers

{Ed002's Note - When he joined Benfica.}

3.) Then, if Benfica want 25 M for their share of 50% of the player's rights, does this mean that Liverpool (for example) have to pay 50 M for the full player's rights?

{Ed002's Note - No.}

29 Jun 2014 06:23:55
Ed002 with your knowledge were do u see sanchez ending up of corse I would love Liverpool to do some sort of swap deal with suarez but again would he come to us cheers

mike g

{Ed002's Note - I am not going to speculate Mike. Sorry.}

1.) 29 Jun 2014 09:38:19
Reports this morning have said that Barca have or are about to bid just 30m plus Sanchez for LS. They see it as a 60m package.

{Ed002's Note - Just ignore the money - there is little point in explaining as it will confuse and upset people.}

2.) Would happily take 30 mil + sanchez, easily same standard if not better than suarez. Definitely less hassle and likely to play more games.

3.) 29 Jun 2014 10:10:16
Whether it's true or not, why would Sanchez + £30m be a bad offer? He's one of the worlds best but has managed to get himself banned every full season he's been here! £60m package is huge considering how long he's going to be out and the strong possibility he will do it again. He's only worth £100m + when he's behaving, he doesn't do that so he's not worth as much as we'd like to get for him. We wouldn't want to buy a player who spends a third of the season out injured for £80 - £100m. He's lowered his value all by himself, not LFC or Barca's fault, it's Luis' fault

4.) I would take that sort of deal also. Ed how does it work when for example a player is on World Cup duty, can his club offer him in a part exchange deal without him knowing or does the player need to be notified first?

{Ed002's Note - His representatives will be aware of it, and they would give a yes or no.}

5.) If that deals on the table we should grab it with both hands
and move on,
Brendan's got enough on his plate without the hassle this fiasco has brought to the club

6.) No-one is bigger than Liverpool football club I would take 40 million and sanchez, suarez has become libility great player but not right in the head NEEDS HELP.

7.) 29 Jun 2014 11:49:36
no probs Ed002 thought u may say that. do u no of any imnent bid including sanchez I for one wouldn't be to fussed about the money as long as we get sanchez think he is just as goo as suarez and will prove that for a prem team and I think he is made for brendon Rodgers and the way we play will only make him even better

{Ed002's Note - I really don't want to speculate about timing of bids Mike. The interest from elsewhere in Sanchez is serious.}

27 Jun 2014 20:18:28
edds it seem to be going nuts with transfer u think suarez transfer done that's were the money is coming from?

mike g

{Ed001's Note - no, though the club might well be spending on the assumption of getting money for him later, I am told that no deal is done with him as it stands.}

1.) Rumour is that the Owners have actually pumped more money into the club to allow the purchase of the likes of Sanchez etc, and that Suarez will not be sold.

2.) 27 Jun 2014 21:44:21
And that's what you call as . "BREAK The BANK. ". they just did that

3.) Maybe the owners are about to strike a mammoth middle east sponsorship deal which they don't want to disclose just yet so the selling clubs don't drive up prices.

Hi edo1 ways your thoughts on lalana this season I think he's started really well creating and scoring hopefully he can keep it up for rest of season like u said earlier everyone playing as a team great to watch.

mike g

{Ed001's Note - he still has the odd moment where he takes the extra touches and slows everything down too much and the attack breaks down. Mostly though, he has begun to shift the ball on quicker, either playing the pass or crossing or even hitting the early shot, which was how he scored today. If he can continue to do that, then he will carry on having much more effect. Klopp just has to make sure he doesn't slip back into the old habit of that extra unnecessary touch. There has never been any issue with his workrate, that has always been, and remains, excellent.}

1.) 25 Sep 2016 00:12:42
4 goals in his last 8 games as well, excellent start to the season, the challenge for him now is to maintain this form, credit where its due so far so good.

2.) 25 Sep 2016 02:05:15
You got to remember this is in a position he is not used to as well fair play to klopp putting him further back and making his energy more prolific.

3.) 25 Sep 2016 02:15:22
Lallana has certainly stepped up this season. LIke Ed001, said, much less dilly-dallying on the ball and a better end product. It seems he was playing as part of an interchanging front 3, while COutinho dropped deeper alongside Wijnaldum.
IT also looks likes that Klavan aside, this is Klopp's preferred first team. Shame as i think Sturridge still has a lot to offer.

4.) 25 Sep 2016 05:48:40
He's looking far more effective from midfield IMO - where his pace is less of an issue and he gets a bit more space to move which means he also keeps his head up. When he first came in, I always felt he had more goals in him, then lost faith for a bit but seems he's coming good now in the new role - long may it continue.

5.) 25 Sep 2016 06:28:16
Ed1 as always maintained if there one player he wants it to work for is Lallana for work rate, his ball control is phenomenal.

6.) 25 Sep 2016 13:10:48
As Ed has said, I have always been of the opinion that Lallana is the most naturally gifted and skillful player in all of the U. K., period. If you watched him and see his last name as Lallana, you would think he was from Brazil or somewhere in South America. He's also comfortable with both feet. Any coach will tell you that a two footed player is the most dangerous player on the pitch. His talent and work rate has never been the problem. It's his moronic Cruyff turns in crucial moments that have always done my head in. If Klopp can clean that up in his game an add some defensive steel to his game, what a player we would have in our hands. Hopefully, he's turning the corner.

20 Jul 2016 10:35:08
edo1this isn't good news on the Newcastle lad why would we pay over 20 mil for him when are first choice targets if we stumped up what the 2 clubs wanted wouldn't even come to much over the price for this needless player who is accountable for this its redicoulus now we still need a lb and are younger players are going to be pissed.

mike g

{Ed001's Note - because the manager wants him. We just have to hope he is making the right decision.}

1.) 20 Jul 2016 11:27:45
I am pretty sure your hoping big time Ed01. If i am right he is not your favourite player to say the least. Not mine either, although with Klopp i do not doubt he can get far more out of him than other managers have managed.

2.) 20 Jul 2016 12:32:02
We better hope he knows what he's doing because if he screws this one up the way he did with signing a poor average player like Caulker and giving a poor GK in Migs a five year deal, then he will be all on his own.

24 May 2016 18:02:08
can anyone do a profile on karius good points bad points will he be frst choice cheers.

mike g

1.) 24 May 2016 20:07:00
Good points - he isn't migs, bad points - we still have migs.

24 May 2016 17:55:06
hi edo1 hope the move is all done now for ya whens the wedding?
question for you who would you rather have in the team firmino or coutinho and I say this because I think we can only have 1 number 10 in the team next year and for me it has to be firmino hi brings more to the team and again if a good offer was made for counts I would take it and invest else were he is still far to inconsistent just feel we need better wide players next year what's your thoughts cheers.

mike g

{Ed001's Note - don't ask about either of those things right now! If it is only one Firmino, but I feel they play better together when they are in form.}

1.) 24 May 2016 21:01:34
I love both of them, but I feel like Firmino will bring more in the long run, still. Coutinho is incredible, I can't favour one over the other, both Liverpool players and both an incredibly huge part of our future. I hope!

08 May 2016 18:02:17
edo1 now the season is nearly over who do u think should go stay or loan
for me loan wise should be randal brad smith and ibe I say ibe because unsure weather he should even stay thought he would push on this year but been very disappointing. branagon and ojo loan/ first team think these 2 could be realy good players.
flanagon has to push on next year2.
would sell benteke migs skrtel wisdom lori Bogdan.
don't want to sell allen but with so many midfielders I think couple need to go so stewart branagon grujic get game time cheers ed thoughts would be apreciated.

mike g

{Ed001's Note - I do not like the loan system and would prefer not to use it, personally. Even those loans that benefit the player while they are away do not benefit the player as much as being involved in the first team squad and training, building up a team spirit with the players around them imo.

For me, loans are only of real benefit if you intend to sell the player and you want to get the best price possible by putting them in the shop window on a regular basis.

I would get rid of from the first team squad (not going to get into the younger ones now):

Some of them it is for their own good, such as Allen, as much as ours. I would also happily sell Milner, Clyne, Wisdom, Lallana, if we got a good fee, though none I would push out of the door just yet. I just do not feel any of those four are good enough for the club, nor are they young enough to develop.}

1.) 09 May 2016 05:22:21
Ed, do you not think the benefits of a full season's footy on-loan outweighs being around the Liverpool first team (so long as they are constants in the 1st team)? I'm not sure whether Wisdom and Ward have improved their game from playing regularly or not this season which is why I ask.
Alternatively, playing infrequently on loan or the reserves seems pointless for all parties.

{Ed001's Note - no, not at all, it just ups the price for a sale. Even the players it is claimed that loans helped, such as Harry Kane, it did no such thing. He would have been sold if they had not had a shortage of strikers. The best teams win consistently because of the way they build togetherness, you have to have a core team that you slowly evolve. Work primarily on team spirit (like Leicester did) and you can produce miracles.}

2.) 09 May 2016 06:41:31
Ed001, what's your main issues with Lallana? I feel over the past few months he's upped his game a fair bit. I know he takes too many touches at times, but his skill, energy and pressing have made him a Klopp favourite. I also think he's starting to show more end product, the odd goal and assist. As a defender myself, I think he'd be a nightmare to mark. His change of direction and ball control are great.

{Ed001's Note - because he still has too little of an end product and counter attacks crash and burn because of him more often than not. I love his work rate, he has a fantastic touch but he still fannies about too much and his comments in the papers are embarrassing. If he kept his mouth shut and just concentrated on learning how to move the ball on quickly, he would be a much better player.}

3.) 09 May 2016 06:52:40
Fair enough :)

4.) 09 May 2016 07:20:03
Couldn't agree more
Even his pressing is often at the wrong time
He tends to go charging off on his own from too far away
Leaving a dangerous gap behind and often doesn't even get close to the opposing player still allowing him to make the pass he wants or an even more dangerous pass into the space Lallana has just created

From afar it looks like he is working hard
, chasing down players but when it is ineffective pressing he just looks like a headless chicken.

5.) 09 May 2016 11:56:17
Milner as been one of our most consistent players second half of the season, very good player to have around the squad.

ed01 remember that article wat said rogers was sacked ages ago and klopp woud take over and him and his advisours were telling fsg who to target player wise ha? just like you say its very strange at the mo Rodgers not saying anything is he still alive? I don't no at the min but all seems very weired!

come on ed01 u can't leave it like that ha more to come out yet?

mike g

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, about the disharmony in the team. I expect a lot more of the stories regarding how many players are unhappy right now to come out. I know Gerrard could certainly say more, but like Agger and Kuyt he will keep his mouth shut out of a love for the club. He will toe the party line because he wants the best for the club, but don't be surprised if others don't feel the same way. I really hope FSG act now, either remove him and be done or confirm he will be staying to the squad and tell them to like it or lump it. This review is disruptive, it brings things to a head and highlights the issues behind the scenes to all the players.}

hi Ed002 regards balo, you say he maybe keen to stay does this co-inside with his last to games has the penny dropped. what do you think or no? I think he could be a good player for us certainly looks good with sturridge. also is brendon starting to like him?

mike g

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool want to sell him but are asking far too much money. His agent says the only other option is for him to stay. I think the club need to decide what they want to do with all of these strikers.}

Edd I would love him back I see wat u say but look at the deals he had set up for people villa silva alves even Ronaldo and bale but his hands were tied by the owners. I think he tried to fight the last owners realising wat they were doing to the club it was him trying to rid of us of the owners. rick parry buying players on his own accord. I think under these owners he would be an excellent choice cheers

its a shame with benteke because he does some great stuff then just doesn't follow it up twice he set up origi with some nice skill and then like u say doesn't follow it up I'm just screaming at the telle willing him to do it ha shame! with studge just hope its confidence because at mo doesn't seem to even have the pace or wat to do with ball but with the time he's had off could take ten fifteen games to get it back. well ed u need to be doing this ritual for rest of season ha because I rekon we could sneak 4 here city arsenal all looking vulnerable at mo cheers.
