I rate both Firmino and Coutinho highly and at the start of the season i was licking my lips at the thought of them playing together for us. But so far they've only played 9 times together in the league. That is just under a third of the games we've played. Hopefully we'll see them play more regularly together for the rest of the season and next season! If they manage to do so i am absolutely positive we will improve no ends. I think they've already shown small signs of a good understanding - something that can only develop as they play more together. Firmino moves around so well and we've seen what a difference it makes to Coutinho to play with someone like that compared to a Benteke or a Balotelli. With Sturridge making his comeback and ings still to come back, young talented players like Ibe, Ojo, Kent who play on the wing, maybe Markovic coming back - we do not need to add to much on top of the pitch - if anything.

I think the future is very bright and i am so optimistic at the moment. I'm in love with being a Liverpool fan.

yes, coutinho's ball control and dribbling is immense its like he's from another earth.

2.) 08 Mar 2016 10:21:49
Ed001 if you about, any idea how Smith is progressing off the field since his contract signing? Part of me thinks well as he's had a couple of opportunities and showed real promise. However with Moreno's performances of late I would like to have thought Smith might have gotten more opportunities.
Now that I've written this I have got the sense that he could just be injured at the moment, so I'll adapt the question slightly if that is the case to, do you think if Moreno and Enrique leave in the summer we potentially have enough cover already with Smith and Gomez with flannagan and clyne as potential back ups if needed?

{Ed001's Note - he had done well but not well enough to be relied on yet, I would prefer us to look to bring in one, as Gomez, Flanno and Clyne are not left backs and they should only be used as emergency cover.}

3.) 08 Mar 2016 13:11:53
Spot on, ED. Is Guerrero a good LB in your mind?

{Ed001's Note - I have not seen enough of him yet to really be sure. I did watch that Rodriguez a few times recently and he was dreadful. Not sure if he is just going through a bad patch, but he was hopeless.}

4.) 08 Mar 2016 18:32:18
Rodriguez is just like Moreno IMO as in, can`t defend to save his life.

{Ed001's Note - that is how he looked to me in the games I saw. He was giving away silly fouls as well, due to chasing back and lunging in. It was very reminiscent of Moreno.}

Such a fine margin between getting hailed as the best thing ever and getting ridiculed and attacked by internet trolls. Had that penalty shootout gone the other way all you slamming our players and manager would be singing their songs. It is truly embarrasing.

We drew the game 1-1 and lost the lottery of penalties. Get over it and move on.

I think the boys out there did me proud. I wanted us to win and we didn't - but i enjoyed the game, the thrill and the exitement.

I enjoyed the fact that we where fighting for a trophy again and i never thought we'd be in a position to do that back in september/ october.

Mistakes where made - surely. You never loose without making mistakes. But mistakes are part of the game and i fully trust our players, manager and the coaching staff to learn from those mistakes.

So i am positive, in a strange way, the day after a sour defeat.

We will be in this situation again and we will fight for trophies again. Next time maybe we'll have the luck and/ or ability to get it over the line. But we where very close yesterday - painfully close and i prefer painfully close to painfully far away.

I want my pulse to go crazy. I want to be jumping on my seat every cross, header, clearence, shoot, pass, deadball, tackle, mazy run and interception - and i did that.

I was tortured and entertained and i enjoyed every second of it right until the end.

Now i can't be happy - but full of hope for another chance to live the game, feel like a football fan - a Liverpool fan. And a Liverpool fan i am!

Up next is Manchester City. What a blessing - let's put this right. The united games - let's put this right. The derby - let's put this right.

Lets go and try to win the Euro League. Get us another final, another chance to be football fans - and let us be football fans, yes let us be Liverpool fans and not pathetic internet trolls.

Lets believe and let's be proud.

As things stand right now - i think it is likely we will alow Benteke, Allen, Toure, Balotelli and Enrique to go in the summer. But for me there is a lot of players in danger - many of them not for lack of trying though.

- Lallana is really strugling to have an impact
- Milner have been nowhere good enough and is getting payed way to much
- Clyne have been a dissapointment for me, ads nothing when going forward and dosn't look solid when defending
- Moreno is hit and miss
- Skrtel is still making to many bad decisions
- Lovren is definately improving, but is he the long term solution on the right next to Sakho?
- Sturridge is class but rarely available
- Markovic i can't judge - but do he even want to stay?
- Mignolet looks better than under BR but i can't see him drastically improve his obvious weaknesses
- Ilori and Teixeira may only have the rest of the season to prove their worth

I properbly left somebody out and some may feel i included someone unfairly. But anyway, my point is that very few players can feel safe.

I certainly don't want to many changes this summer but i do see quite a few go regardless.

You see people like Götze, Aubameyang, Subotic etc mentioned in the press - but for me they aren't typical Klopp signings and with quite a few possible outgoings i find myself wondering who could replace those who end up leaving.

This is totally hypothetical - but what players out there do you guys think would be an improvement on those who may leave? Who is exiting you?

I am thinking of talents like Kagawa, Lewandowski, Piszczek, Subotic etc. before they went to dortmund. Players who isn't amongst the most recognized names. Players who are talented, may be affordable and realistically may want to join.

Thanks.

1.) 09 Jan 2016 16:04:48
Well, Lavije, if many of them players leave, don't expect us to even challenge for the top four for a decade.

You should know that Brendan made a big mistake by bringing in too many players.

It's a slow process in which as a club, we should learn from our mistakes.

For the sake of our squad, regardless of talent, half of that list at least will be here next season.

2.) 09 Jan 2016 16:23:46
You will have a very hard time moving Benteke on in the summer, mate.

3.) 09 Jan 2016 16:28:58
Exactly Davey - either i should re-write it or you should re-read it. As i said, i do not want big changes. I never said they would all leave, i said some may leave.

I should ad that if anybody leave i hope we will look from within first before recruiting anybody. We have good young players!

As a football fan i am curious wich players are out there who could possibly improve our squad - but isn't already very expensive and very well-known.

4.) 09 Jan 2016 19:21:42
redohio - Looks like i haven't worded this post well enough, since both repliers have clearly misunderstood my intention :-D Maybe it comes with me not being a native speaker? What i tried and possibly failed to say is that i am sure the club are willing to let Benteke go. I am well aware it won't necessarily happen. I do hope he change that between now and the summer - but somehow i doubt it.

We are so many people following this forum, from all over the world, watching lots and lots of football between us - most likely from lots of different leagues. So i am curious if anybody have seen someone stick out, some under the radar talent who you (or i atleast) could/ would class as a "typical klopp buy".

I am not saying that we should then go out and replace the whole squad and i am not even that interested in the possibility of us bringing those players in. I am just curious and want to broaden my horizon and learn a bit about some new and not-so-well-known players with real talent. I am sure they are out there - but haven't had the time to follow anything other than liverpool for the last few seasons.

5.) 10 Jan 2016 00:47:16
Breaks my heart. Nah it doesn't you can sell them for me.

06 Apr 2015 03:36:56
I saw Red BBQ posted a list with players he thought we could have bought in over the summer instead of those we did.

It made me thinking. What if we hadn't bought in anybody at all and his list looked like this

Lallana would be Jordan Ibe
Balotelli would be Jerome Sinclair
Markovic would be Sheyi Ojo
Can would be Jordan Rossiter or Jordan Williams
Lovren would be Andre Wisdom or Thiago Ilori
Moreno would be Brad Smith
Manquillo would be Conor Randall or Ryan McLaughlin

What if the list had looked like this?

It would certainly have saved us some money to a proper striker and proper keeper wich in reality was all we needed and neither where bought.

The amazing and terrible thing for me is that i don't really see that we would have done that much worse with those players. And all are in the club already.

What do people think? If we had added those players to the squad instead of buying anybody - what would have been?

I know it is a hypothetical question and things can be undone. unfortunately.

I am not slating the quality of the players bought in though, i need to make that clear! I consider Lallana, Lovren, Can, Markovic to be very good players or potentialy very good players.

Interested to hear any thoughts

lavije

1.) 06 Apr 2015 07:48:40
We needed some players, we just bought too many, and some of the younger ones wouldn't be ready. Can was the right choice, and arguably so was lovren, he just couldn't replicate his form. Ibes loan did him good, but could have stayed in the squad. If we knew we would change to a back three, maybe ilori or wisdom may have stayed but it was a backup plan. If we didn't get say balotelli markovic and maybe lallana (although I really like lallana) and got one top striker, maybe that would be enough, although you could argue then our squad, may be thin up top with the standard sturridge injuries.

2.) 06 Apr 2015 08:23:18
I honestly feel most of our signings need a proper run in the team, in the position they impressed at their previous clubs, before judging them. Manager has failed to get the best from them. What makes you think the Academy lads would be played regularly in their best positions? I don't get why some fans think Brendan should get more time to spend more money, when the same bloke gives his players less than a season to impress. Terry Mac and Ian Rush didn't hit the ground running, but Sir Bob knew how to get the best out of them and it wasn't by sending them on loan for a season then selling them.

3.) 06 Apr 2015 09:55:21
we could have had willian, mkhitriyan , remy , bony, konoplyanka salah, sanchez( yea there was london factor in his move, but i think we never quite showed the hunger to have him , i don't think we as a club were desperate enough to sign him. we didn't involve ourselves in a bidding war either) we went on to show in these transfers that liverpool won't budge on prices and won't be held on ransom by selling clubs which well i dunno was right or wrong

and then we got allen, lallana, markovic, balotelli, lambert, borini aspas, alberto, assaidi for near about 100 million pounds

now i understand these players weren't bought inplace of above players but still there's a huge gap in quality among the players we targeted and players we eventually bought and we didn't buy them for cheap either.

{Ed002's Note - You are living in a fantasy world.}

4.) 06 Apr 2015 11:23:10
Seriously akshit really? I mean why would we have signed bony if we signed remy nd why had we got salah and kono if we already had Willian. And no hunger to sign Sanchez what the fsg does that even mean? You my friend are one confused lad

5.) 06 Apr 2015 11:40:56
Honestly, I think Wisdom, Suso and Ibe should've been used in the first team, and Manquillio and one out of Markovic and Lallana not signed and that money spent elsewhere.

Now I should say that I think Markovic & Lallana (along with Moreno & Can) will ultimately be good players for us. But we could've gotten by without them, and there certainly wasn't a genuine need for us to have both of them.

6.) 06 Apr 2015 12:28:48
@reet - BACKUP , squad B and plan B, all top teams have it.

as long as we keep on signing one player for every position and not have an equivalent good backup (either youth or purchased) we won't be going any far than 5th place.

and ed didn't post the apology i offered for the senseless post , as for the original i pressed reply accidentally without typing the whole point i was trying to bring accross .

by same logic why would city sign bony when they already have aguero dzeko and jovetic?

{Ed002's Note - I didn't see it.}

7.) 06 Apr 2015 19:52:05
yes i know Ed002, sry that post of mine didn't make much sense, but we could have targeted very different players

{Ed002's Note - Thanks but don't worry.}

08/09: Degen, Dossena, Cavalieri, N'Gog, Keane, Riera
09/10: Johnson, Aquilani, Kyrgiakos, Rodriguez, Sterling
10/11: Shelvey, Jovanovic, Cole, Wilson, Poulsen, Jones, Meireles, Konchesky, Suso, Suarez, Carroll
11/12: Henderson, Adam, Doni, Downing, Enrique, Coates, Bellamy, Ibe
12/13: Borini, Allen, Assaidi, Sahin, Yesil, Sturridge, Coutinho, Teixeira
13/14: Alberto, Aspas, Mignolet, Toure, Cissokho, Sakho, Ilori, Moses
14/15: Lambert, Lallana, Can, Markovic, Lovren, Origi, Manquillo, Moreno, Balotelli

I just looked through all the players Liverpool have bought since the summer 2008. (See list above) It is a crazy amount of money spend there. To be honest it makes me sick. Absolutely sick. What could have been with some proper recruitment? We are not behind the others because we spend less, but because we do not spend what we got wisely. Looking through all those names - how many do you guys consider a succes? A good transfer? In hindsight i know - but still. The hit rate is terrible. How many have contributed to the team? I do not want to judge this years recruitments just yet - but from 2008 - 2013 i would say only Maxi Rodriguez, Sterling, Shelvey, Brad Jones, Meireles, Suso, Suarez, Henderson, Bellamy, Ibe, Allen, Sturridge, Coutinho, Teixeira and maybe Sakho where good transfers (maybe i unfairly left out someone). That is 15 out of 46. Simply just embarrasing. There is always transfers that won't go to plan for whatever reason. I understand and accept that. Most Liverpool fans i know complains that we can't compete because we lack the money. Saying we should spend more. I don't think that is necessary. We just have to spend better.

1.) 30 Jan 2015 12:39:41
at least 35 of these players flopped. shocking. :(

2.) 30 Jan 2015 15:25:22
You are forgetting things like:

a) We sold players and recouped much of that money almost every year.
b) Many players do not want to join Liverpool and prefer other destinations, probably because of CL football or lifestyle. I will dare to say Liverpool does not have the name anymore of the old. For example if a player had a choice between Liverpool and Utd he would have chosen the latter in a snap.
c) The last few years we were purchasing mostly potentials because we wanted to spend less and gain from their growth.

Poor management in my opinion, not only from the coach but from the owners down to the comittee in most occassions. Last year(summer) we only needed 2 world class players instead we bought all the above mediocre players and for that's down to the bad policy of the owners.

Had they push for Costa and Willian we would have been the champions by a mile. And for that kind of things I don't blame the coach/manager but the owners who put some "rules" when buying a player instead of seeing the whole picture.

3.) Recouped much of that money is a stretch. Suarez aside, we only made money on a few, like Shelvey and N'gog. Most were sold for peanuts or released or paid to leave.

4.) 30 Jan 2015 16:57:23
That's why we must rethink our transfer policy (Quantity or quality?) and specially our youth policy: It's 100 times better to have one Dani Pacheco, Robinson, Spearing, etc that fails than to bring Degens, Koscienlys, Poulsens, etc. Far cheaper, profitable and long term intelligent

5.) After what Costa did the other day you'd still have him, Pirate? He's by far my least favorite player; Suarez was and is an angel on the pitch compared to that guy. Every game I've ever seen him play in, he does something dirty to an opposing player.

6.) It's even worse in my book.
08-09 none.
09-10 Johnson, sterling.
10-11 Suarez. der
11-12 Hendo.
12-13 Studge, Cout.
13-14 Sakho, though with BR who knows?
14-15 too early.

7.) You are missing my point pirate. It isn't about how much money we got selling players - it is how we went about spending whatever money there where to be spend. My point is it could have been spend better. Every summer we bought players who had absolutely no positive impact on the team. You may argue that our pull isn't that strong, that we can't get the world beaters and have to go buying someone who may or may not come good. That is not excuse for speinding money on a Poulsen, Degen, Jovanovic or Konchesky though. that's just filling up space blocking for a young player from the academy. And don't say there wasn't quality in the marked and we got the best we could get. Take this summer for example. We went for Balotelli instead of Bony who's a lot better in almost every aspect. Same goes for all the other transfer windows, where a lot of players where bought in at high costs. There where quality in the market and players i am sure would have wanted to come to Liverpool.

8.) 31 Jan 2015 09:42:06
Despite the transfer policy being awful I'd argue it has improved! But it's still awful.

9.) 31 Jan 2015 12:11:53
Read the comment carefully lavije and you will see the way you see things are totally wrong. We don't have the luxury of buying whoever we want just like Chelsea. You brought Poulsen as an example, who was picked by a wrong manager for Liverpool.

10.) 31 Jan 2015 21:20:12
Americo are you choosing players based on their character or because of their football skills? Because people were moaning about Suarez yet anyone would have him back in a snap.

Costa is by far the best striker in the EPL this year, whether you like him or not and yes I would have him in a snap.

JCW_XS I really think he, like anybody else, should get a job based on their abilities to do the job. You wouldn't hire someone to drive the school bus if he didn't have a driving license, arguing that he had to show what he was made of rahter than others teaching him their ways. I see no difference.

I have a lot of time for players who are doing their best and Klavan, while not a world beater, is no lazy and/ or spoiled git like Benteke, Balotelli, Pennant, Diouf or Collymore.

He may not be good enough to be a starter but i like him anyway. Did we need him? Maybe not, but he is here and i'll support him as long as he is putting in the effort.

Actually Agger did go out and slam Brendan Rodgers. But it kind of slipped under the radar - most likely because it was in danish and in a danish magazine (Euroman if anybody is interested). But he told how Rodgers in no time went from being very friendly and supportive to totally freeze him out. Going back on promises, not speaking to him etc. All in all Agger was very disappointed to be forced out. He would have loved to stay longer and even end his career in Liverpool.

I will try and see if i can find the article again and put some quotes in here (with my own bad translation) if anybody is interested and the eds thinks it is alright?

People please give the boy a break. You base your opinions on him and his "greed" on what you read in the press i suppose? Well done. They are a trustworthy bunch! Ibe may very well be the most talented. What do i know. I won't argue about it. I just know that it isn't always the most talented who end up being the best. If Ibe end up becoming the better player of the two - Hurra, what a pleasure it'll be with both hopefully in the team. But give Ibe a break to, stop the compare the two and let the boy get on with it and play. They aren't the same person guys. What about Markovic? Why doesn't anybody compare Sterling and Markovic to each other? Quick young and skillfull players. There is as many similarities between them as there is between Ibe and Sterling

If we pay Real Madrid any kind of money for any of their players, we'll just be funding a move from them for Suarez. Bad idea I believe

Oh that's right, i somehow forgot that he didn't got a work permit. Fingers crossed that he somehow end up qualifying for a work permit and he'll get his chance. I think he could have a great career with us.

Appreciate it ed002. Thanks a lot yet again.

Looks like something went missing Ed002.

I am trying to follow Allan in germany and i am really exited about his potential.

Why do you rather doubt that his long term future will be with Liverpool?

Thanks :)

Enjoy your hollidays everyone.

{Ed002's Note - He can't get a work permit, there is no place in the team for him, Klipperty if he is interested in all of these players that the fans keep telling me about is not planning to use him. He is stuck out on loan with no plan going forward.

It doesn't look too rosy for him right now.}

Late answer here ed001. You really have a great collection of sites here and it really is quite unique. Thanks for taking the time to enlighten me and countless of others again and again. I can't think of another place where you can communicate directly with resourcefull persons about important stuff like e. g. Liverpool FC ;) I highly appreciate it! Been here nearly daily for years going back to the start - i post now and then but not that often. But i rarely leave this place without emotions. Sometimes it may be something funny that Harry said under a new alias, it may be something that offended me or it may be something that made me see things clearer or in a diffent perspective. It is just great.

I still count 17 teams beneath us in the table and i haven't seen anything from Arsenal or Chelsea to make me fear them. Not Man City either. We have as good a chance as anybody, playing the way we do. Nothing is perfect and today certainly wasn't. But at the same time, for most of the match it was quite alright. We were absolutely fine when the players sticked to plan A. If anything we have to perfect plan A instead of being half good at plan A, B and C.

We can improve but being:

- third in the table
- with 30 points after 14 games,
- 4 points behing league leaders Chelsea who is being hailed by some as the 8th wonder of the world,
- coming from 8th last season

. is quite a satisfying position to improve upon.

We have had a good start to the season and i have enjoyed watching us play more than maybe ever before. We are good and we will get better. I have absolutely no idea if we will win it this year but we will be a lot closer than we usually are and in a far better postion to follow it up the next season instead of just falling apart again as we have done the last few times. This team, , how can't you enjoy this team. We are so much better as a team than we've been for more than a decade. Thanks to plan A.
