Hi Eds,

Following on from Sakho not being in the squad, and since there hasn't been an update in a few weeks, have there been any developments regarding his request to leave? Has the interest from Lazio gone?

Appreciate the help Eds,

Cheers

kyles

{Ed001's Note - nothing new on that front mate, he still wants to go.}

Hi Eds, there are some reports today that Fenerbache are interested in signing Yesil on a loan deal for next season? Do you have any idea whether this is true or not, or whether any clubs at all are interested in taking him on loan?
Cheers for any help

kyles

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of anything right now.}

Hi Eds. I've given it a go on the search engine and I haven't found anything, so apologies is this has been asked/answered before.

Do you have any idea when Rodgers is flying out to Boston to meet with the owners, or whether in fact he is flying out at all? Just wondering when we can expect to start to hear some news regarding any changes and plans for next season.

Cheers for all the hard work you do and good luck for a chaotic summer!

{Ed001's Note - no idea sorry. Not even sure if he is.}

I'd seen (before the Stoke disaster) that it was scheduled for that it was June 1st, presumably for a meeting on the 2nd. But the source is unproven.

Eds, obviously Coutinho is desperate to move to Barcelona asap, what I don't understand is why we'd be willing to let him leave in January when we're almost certainly going to be unable to register his replacement in the Champions League this season? Surely we wouldn't go into the knockout stages without our best player, or any kind of quality replacement?

kyles

{Ed001's Note - what has Salah to do with this?}

1.) 31 Dec 2017 10:53:18
What does Bobby Firms have to do with any of this?

2.) 31 Dec 2017 10:50:34
I like what you did there Ed1 :)

{Ed001's Note - cheers ;-)

3.) 31 Dec 2017 10:55:49
lovely ed001 ha.

{Ed001's Note - thanks mate.}

4.) 31 Dec 2017 14:22:18
Fair enough lol but point still stands no?

5.) 31 Dec 2017 21:27:46
Why are people desperate to hold on to Coutinio till the summer. Yes he's quality but I'd rather play Llanna or the Ox and let him go. It's like clinging on to your bird when you know she's smashing your best mate.

Want to stress that this isn't a dig at the eds cause i know it might be seen that way! Just genuinely curious.

ED001, you've said a few times since the summer that we've moved on from VVD, so am just wondering whether why you didn't know about it? Has the club just played this one that close to their chests and shut down any leaks that much since the summer? Appreciate it.

Cheers, Kyle.

{Ed001's Note - because it was a case of us looking elsewhere until Saints gave the green light. It was all up to the Saints, Van Dijk spent all summer begging them to allow him to join us, as I said at the time. As soon as they decided that they would sell to us, there was only a fee to be agreed, which took no time as we were happy to meet the asking price in order to appease them following the messing around in the summer.}

1.) 27 Dec 2017 19:40:50
That makes perfect sense. I know he would not be your choice Ed001 but I have high hopes for him. I think the signing is a game changer.

{Ed001's Note - I hope so mate.}

2.) 27 Dec 2017 19:56:46
Spot on, Ed. The ball was always in the Saints court cos for Klopp, it was VVD or bust so all the Saints had to do was give us the signal to come to the table and if we were going to pay the 75m in the summer, there was nothing stopping us from paying it now esp. since Klopp wanted VVD at ALL costs.

3.) 27 Dec 2017 20:00:23
It was a clean end to a long messy affair, think of it as a axeman having a few goes with a blunt axe and not even making a cut, but on his 5th try he sweeps the head clean off in one go. Does that sound right?

Sorry for the repost, I replied to the wrong thread.

{Ed001's Note - yep, it is what we should have done in the summer imo.}

4.) 27 Dec 2017 20:13:46
Gotcha, cheers for the reply!

Hi Eds,

Just wondering, do all English clubs have a requirement to run an academy system?

kyles

{Ed001's Note - no, a number of clubs have closed them due to the EPPP.}

Based on the reaction on the BBC, you'd think Gerrard has just had the best match by any player in the last decade!
Am I the only one who thinks that apart from his goals he was pretty poor? Some of his passing was woeful.

Not trying to play down the fact he bailed us out, just trying to preach sense amidst the media's fawning over him.

They were a tiny bit over zealous but you're being a tad harsh. The fact is that without his two goals we'd have been out. In all honesty, my greater concern is our defense. at times it's non-existent.

2.) He wasn't great, but who was? Playing on those sort of pitches against physical opposition is difficult. Gerrard got the goals to send us through and in my opinion the only 2 players who were better overall than Gerrard were Coutinho and Sakho.

The problem was the lack of pace and movement up front. Coutinho always drops deep for the ball and Gerrard and Lambert are too slow to play together in the front 3; similarly to how Gerrard and Lucas don't do well together in midfield. You need mobility and we lacked that up front. The difference was, Gerrard still posed a threat unlike Lambert who was really poor tonight.

3.) 05 Jan 2015 23:32:12
I only caught the last 30 and I thought he looked good. That may have been coloured by the amount of space AFC Wimbledon afforded us on the counter towards the end of the game. Better finishing from other players and he'd have had a couple of assists to go with his goals.

Whatever his overall performance though, I don't think it should really surprise anyone that he plays better as an attacking midfielder than a defensive one. We've only been suggesting as much all season, after all.

4.) My biggest concern is Mignolet.

5.) I really dislike the early rounds of cups that are played against "poorer" opposition. Always poor quality, rough, lump it forward sky high type of games. that's why better teams struggle cause they are brought down to there level.

6.) The lack of pace in the front line meant Wimbledon built unchallenged at the back, knocking up balls to their monster CF with ease.

Gerrard's genius produced 2 goals against a L2 team. But the inability of anyone at the front to defend would have us in hot water with any PL team.

7.) What do you want them to do aussieMARK? Attempt to play Barcelona-style football (and suffer the inevitable defeat that would bring)? The onus isn't on the "little" clubs to play with quality or set-up how big teams want them to, the onus is on the big team to use all of there supposed quality to find a way to win under those different circumstances - surely this is why the FA Cup is held in high regard and also what makes it so entertaining? Ourselves playing badly (again) does not reflect poorly on Wimbledon, it reflects poorly on us (and our players, manager, etc).

8.) Nail on the head EMS.

I like Henderson, and don't necessarily agree with criticism about passing sideways, but I've noticed an issue with him this season is that he tends to get dribbled past a lot, leaving opposition players running straight at our defence with no protection. It seems to me that he rushes in too quickly to close down which leaves a big gap in front of the defence when they get around him.

Has anyone else noticed this?

May I please just mention to EMS that Milton Keynes is in the South East, not the East Midlands (if I recall correctly that you said you live in MK) .

Did Sturridge not play 40ish games in their Champions League winning season? As I recall he was played very often when he wasn't on the sidelines injured?
