Hi Ed's and fellow reds. Just wanted to throw this question out there.

To you as a fan of LFC, what's makes the club special to you and when did you decide to start supporting this club?

Were you born a red or were you converted? Cause for me the run to the UCL final in Istanbul did it for me. I remember we were only 2 LFC fans in my class then and when we won the Final. The class was unbearable for everyone the next day.

joered63

{Ed001's Note - I was never really given a choice, if I had supported anyone else I would have been out on the streets.}

1.) 18 Apr 2019 20:09:49
I flirted with both Everton and Liverpool as a child as my cousin played for Everton youth and would give me his old kits that never fit. I ended up supporting Liverpool but my next door neighbour couldn’t have children and took me to about three seasons of Everton games. I also support tranmere as they’re my local team, being from Merseyside you get one choice, red or blue. Although I’m a red i do still enjoy watching the blues.

2.) 18 Apr 2019 20:11:19
I didn't have a choice either, I was automatically a red from birth! thank god.

3.) 18 Apr 2019 20:32:50
1985, five years old I was pushed to the ground by a kid twice my size and said "you support Liverpool now, right" and from that day on I did. Bullied into it but quickly grew to love.

4.) 18 Apr 2019 20:38:23
I've always been a red. During our times under Souness I did follow Blackburn Rovers for a while, but it was completely that I liked Kenny Dalglish so much. When he left Blackburn and Ray Harford was appointed, I no longer had any interest in them and was 100% Liverpool.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that was relishing Kenny's success with Rovers?

5.) 18 Apr 2019 20:42:47
First team I ever saw live (and I wasn’t going to support Watford! ) Also, my mate in class at school died at Hillsborough so I had to keep his support going for life through thick and thin.

6.) 18 Apr 2019 20:44:54
In regard to my above post ^

I did go to Ewood Park during that period to watch Blackburn Vs Liverpool. When asked at the desk where I wanted to sit, I still chose Liverpool.

It was the match when John Barnes scored his overhead kick from a Stig Inge Bjornbye cross. I was right behind it and it became a clip that was in the MOTD theme tune opening and I could pick myself out in the crowd when watching on TV.

7.) 18 Apr 2019 20:51:17
born in NZ, both parents are from samoa but split when was a little one. my dad is a fan and he would talk about the club over the phone so that was the initial. we talking about the mid 90s when i was 10. We didn't really have tv coverage so just followed results on the news. I vividly remember ManUs treble year, watching the sports news of when when they came to anfield. seeing the defiance from our fans holding up trophy shaped signs of all our triumphs from back in the days and then we clawed back to earn a draw. I didn't even really know the rivalry until then. But I was hooked from then. and that was just a 1 minute article on the 6pm news!

As the internet developed that increased access and I learned about history, Hillsborough and what stood out were the values. in particular I enjoyed reading about our knowledgable crowd and the passionate support. how they applauded skill from opponents, applaud ex-players and respecting injured opponents. not sure if these happen as much these days.

first game watching live was the Owen final, getting up at whatever time it was in the dark to watch the magic. I was 17 at the time. from then and becoming an adult I could pay for my own TV subscription and nowadays internet subscriptions to watch live. what hasn't changed is having to get up somewhere between 12am - 7am to catch the games! Its a different kind of passion but I love it!

definitely had to choose to support the club which I feel proud about especially give we weren't winning sh*t when I got hooked haha but I tend to be an underdog kinda guy!

YNWA.

8.) 18 Apr 2019 21:06:56
Dad was a red so I was from birth 👍.

9.) 18 Apr 2019 21:23:34
All my dads side of the family are blue and my mums are red (my dad is also a catholic which didn't go down well with my mums nan apparently! ) . Luckily, my brother and I are both reds, though my dad is adamant we were dropped on our heads. I do miss the days of Everton and Liverpool sharing a family friend game with just bragging rights up for grabs, so much hatred nowadays.

10.) 18 Apr 2019 22:12:28
When I first started following football (around 5, early 80s) I supported players not clubs. I loved Kevin Keegan, so I supported Saints and the Newcastle. Then he retired.

So I switched to Trevor Brooking, and West Ham. And the he retired 2 weeks later!

I wished up quick, and thought “I’ll pick 2 players, in case one retires! ” I picked Brucie and Rushdie, was around 83/ 84. The rest is history!

I was born and lived my early years in East London, so most of my family and my cousins are Hammers fans. I am the red sheep of my family, and proud of it!

By the way, in common with other observations above, my kids dad is a red (me! At least I hope 😂) so they don’t have a choice 😉.

11.) 18 Apr 2019 22:19:23
I'm in the states and when I was groing up it was very hard to get any football. Two things happened though, my father told me that ancestors came to America from Liverpool and then I had some friends from England who shared magazines with me and I read about Keegan and instantly became a red. When we moved, I would go to the bookstore every week to look at the London Times to keep up with the table and scores.

12.) 18 Apr 2019 22:28:49
A red from birth because of my da then he converted to port Vale but thank god I stayed loyal. Lol.

13.) 18 Apr 2019 22:37:54
When growing up I was a huge fan of Fowler, he then left and I had a choice follow the player or the club. Never looked back since!

14.) 18 Apr 2019 22:51:06
I knew nothing about this Liverpool. My favourite township team in South Africa was Liverpool. Then when I saw on TV that there was another Liverpool, which was more famous I started to have an interest. Now I am stuck.

15.) 18 Apr 2019 23:34:04
I don't know about football when I started to support Liverpool. At the age of 13, my cousins were playing FIFA. They helped to learn how to play a game. We are playing a tournament. They have taken Arsenal and Manchester United. They have given me Liverpool. From that day I have started supporting Liverpool. Thank god they have given a right one.

16.) 18 Apr 2019 23:36:36
When I was 5 my Dad brought home 2 scarves, 1 was a Manc and other one was liverpool. Luckily I got to pick first and have followed ever since and have 2 kids and they are also true reds. Being a red since 1975 have seen some great times and also some really dire ones but looks like the good times have returned again.

17.) 18 Apr 2019 23:39:52
I supported them from birth, I had no choice.

Harry, what about you? 😂.

18.) 19 Apr 2019 00:12:30
Holy moly, spell check is a pain!

Good thing I ‘wized’ up and declared a fatwa on the enemies of the Reds! 😂😂😂.

19.) 19 Apr 2019 00:32:25
Growing up, I actually had little interest in football. Most of my friends supported ManU or Arsenal. But then, at about 12 (1993) I got Premier Manager 2 for my Amiga. I played Halifax Town from the Conference all the way to Premier League. And then, I got an offer from another club. You guessed it. Sheffield W. It didn’t feel right, so I restarted from my last save. I got another offer. From Liverpool. I knew nothing, but they had this fellow called McManaman, and that was the coolest name I ever heard. And some chap namned Fowler. Yeah. Never looked back.

20.) 19 Apr 2019 01:55:14
Joered63 What a great post and some very interesting replies in how we have all come to bond with this club of ours.
Fantastic post and replies.

21.) 19 Apr 2019 04:53:34
Born and bred in Liverpool, first Dovecot and then from the age of 11 Old Swan, so was always in the city during my formative years and you have a choice, red or blue. I remember my uncle taking me to a couple of Everton games when I was real young but my only memory of that is being bored! In fairness to Everton I think it was just because I was too young.

Anyway, didn't really develop an interest in football but remember watching Everton win the FA Cup, some of my family being made up, but feeling very nonchalant about it. Think my cousins love of Liverpool played a factor an we ended up talking to each other a lot and it grew from there. When I was 15 i had older family members taking me to European games - Can remember Gary Mac's pen vs Barcelona so clearly. I suppose the pinnacle of being a Liverpool supporter, at least for me, was driving to Istanbul with 3 friends to watch the most incredible European final ever. It was the first time I went abroad and my god what a whirlwind.

That fateful trip also kicked off the urge to travel in me and I spent a number of years traveling hear and there. I now live in Taiwan with my wife and 4 month old daughter, it's a funny old world. Thankfully they show almost all the Liverpool games on TV so, despite the time difference, I rarely miss one.

{Ed001's Note - you had a choice? I don't think me mam would ever have forgiven me if I had supported Everton!}

22.) 19 Apr 2019 06:29:16
I enjoyed watching football at about 5/ 6. I liked Wednesday. I asked my old man who i should support and he said liverpool. He is Scotish, Celtic supporter, and we had souness, hansen, and king kenny.

I watched them play, and they were winning league titles, were brilliant.

I became a good player. Would be asked to play for the older team, who were top of the A league. I played with the younger team too and have a trophy for top goal scorer.

I may not come from liverpool but i love LFC, i have cups, keyrings, scarfs, shirts, jackets. I even have a model anfield which i haven't built yet.

Liverpool football club is one of my loves, perhaps my first love. I love them as much as any man.

23.) 19 Apr 2019 08:03:04
Scouse by birth, red by the grace of god.

24.) 19 Apr 2019 12:44:09
Born in Spain I never really followed English football and supported Real Madrid, but also England national team, and Owen (my parents are English) then at about 8 years old I started playing a championship manager game with some friends and chose Liverpool, think one of the first Liverpool games I watched was Istanbul final, and never looked back :)

25.) 19 Apr 2019 12:32:15
The 2007 final did it for me. even though we lost. I'm a fan of the underdog and that team got me. I made a little enquiry as my mate that watched the game with me was Liverpool through and through. before I realized, I knew almost all the players by their first name and watched most of the games. Never looked back since.

Hi fellow reds and the wonderful eds.
Glad to see that the mood around here is gradually lightening up.

This one is for Ed01, there's one thing I've noticed about Matip, he always carries the ball deep into the opponents half and somehow managed to lose it with a misplaced pass, there by creating big gaps behind for the opponents to attack us. I saw it happen several times in our last 2 games.

So what I'm wondering is, was this a big part of his game when he was in Germany?
because I didn't see much of him before coming to Liverpool. Did he pull it off most times? Because personally I think it's doing more harm than good trying those type of things. Van Djyk is a better ball playing CB and he doesn't even carry the ball forward as much as Matip.

joered63

{Ed001's Note - I don't know I had never see him play centre back before joining Liverpool.}

1.) 06 Feb 2019 13:32:40
I would rather of kept Klavan and sold matip tbh.

2.) 06 Feb 2019 14:23:01
I think teams set up tatically to invite him to do that, essentially setting a trap.

3.) 06 Feb 2019 18:51:24
Spot on, taa001. It happened vs LC and WH. They set a "trap" for him and let him wander deep into midfield and then, press him there. Matip is not that intelligent to realize that it is a trap and seems to always fall for it. I did see him play a bit in Germany BUT I thought he would be good enough for us long term as his first set of performances suggested.

Since then, he has been super atrocious. I mean, he does not even do the basics well and lacks the bottle, desire, aggressiveness to be a top level CB. He instills NO fear on his opponents and if I was a forward, I would fancy my chances ALL day long against him. At least w/ Klavan and Lovs, you know you're in a battle. Esp. Klavan who was always ready for a fight, tough and tenacious in the challenge.

{Ed001's Note - I had seen him in Germany but in midfield. I was not impressed.}

Hello guys and the wonderful eds that make this site such a wonderful place to be. Not a regular poster but an ardent follower of the site.

Was having a chat with some friends today 2 were Chelsea fans and the other was a Man U fan, and they were all dreading the thought of Liverpool actually winning the EPL. They all would prefer City to win it because according to them, the gloating from the Liverpool fans will be unbearable for them.

Although they did acknowledge that this team is superior to the one under Brendan Rodgers and that is why they are genuinely concerned.

How I would love to see their faces when we lift the title next year. No need to get Carried away, as Klopp said 'it is one game at a time'.

Have a Wonderful new year guys and Eds. And I believe 2019 will be even better for LFC.

joered63

1.) 30 Dec 2018 23:11:00
They have a point, I would be completely unbearable.

2.) 30 Dec 2018 23:26:29
A bit like how unbearable man und fans are now they've won 3 in a row with a 750million squad against the worst in form teams in the league.

Cant wait til we can be unbearable!

3.) 30 Dec 2018 23:35:25
How possibly they know it'll be unbearable? Its been years since the club's last trophy. Tell them they have to experience the gloating first. Don't speculate ;)

4.) 31 Dec 2018 05:24:36
Stay humble people.

5.) 31 Dec 2018 06:33:39
To an extent it’s true! We are so arrogant when we win!

17 Nov 2018 10:55:59
Hello fellow reds and the ever wonderful eds. I just saw that the Netherlands beat France yesterday and one thing that got me thinking was seeing Wijnaldum on the score sheet again. I mean, I can count on one finger the number of goals he has scored in a Liverpool shirt but that doesn't seem to be the case with Netherlands. What position does he play for the national team?

I'll appreciate your input on this ed01. Thanks.

joered63

{Ed001's Note - I haven't seen the game, but he usually has a more attacking role for Netherlands. He was an out and out attacking mid when he was younger.}

1.) 17 Nov 2018 12:37:05
At times this season Liverpool have played a number 10, might be worth trying Wijnaldum out there.

{Ed025's Note - you would be better off with a proper footballer eamon..

2.) 17 Nov 2018 12:48:01
I have been crying out for gini in an attacking mid role since we signed him can't help feeling we have missed out from goals in that area playing him so deep and assists as he plays such a controlling restricted role .

{Ed025's Note - i think you mean mis-controlling restricted ability role mate.. :)

3.) 17 Nov 2018 14:00:30
Agreed cos it's not his natural role and u taking away the strongest point of his game, he has even played centre back which is insane but he actually done a good job on the night .

{Ed025's Note - i will take your word for it mate..

4.) 17 Nov 2018 14:35:01
Ed025 you are becoming an absolute troll lol.
How can you praise Andre Gomes like you do yet constantly mug off our midfielders despite them all being better than the aforementioned layabout?

{Ed025's Note - im not mugging off all your midfielders lowel only the ones who deserve it...oh yeah sorry thats all of them ....by the way gomes is better than any of your shower mate.. :)

5.) 17 Nov 2018 14:49:28
ED25 with one punchline after another!

{Ed025's Note - just a bit of banter RK while all this boring international football is going on mate..

6.) 17 Nov 2018 14:49:59
I don’t think you even believe that Ed, Everton would take him in a heartbeat.

{Ed025's Note - i dont think so den, we are getting rid of lazy play when you feel like players...not buying them mate..

7.) 17 Nov 2018 17:24:52
You are soooo wrong Ed it’s actually hilarious.

{Ed025's Note - its just an opinion mate, yours may be different to mine but thats all good as well, it would be boring if we all thought alike..

8.) 17 Nov 2018 17:41:37
Ed025 definitely isn't a troll, brings a bit of banter and levity to the page.

As for his opinion on Everton players, back in the day sailors stranded at sea used to start to imagine Manatees were mermaids. that's what being an Everton fan is like.

{Ed025's Note - your not far wrong there eamon mate..

9.) 18 Nov 2018 08:42:00
Everton have an even barer trophy cabinet than we do at this current time.

27 Sep 2018 07:32:57
Fabinho looked so slow and indecisive in midfield, can't imagine him filling in at right back to be honest. Maybe in the french league but not in England. I do hope he "settles in" quickly seeing as I was pumped when we signed him.

joered63

1.) 27 Sep 2018 07:58:20
He just needs time to settle mate, he'll get there it just takes time, some can't immediately come over and be incredible from day one, this league is in a different world to Ligue 1. It'll take time for him to adapt, even if it takes a year then so be it, it's better than rushing him in.

2.) 27 Sep 2018 08:00:39
Think by 30 mins he was better, looked nervous and once he settled was more aggressive. I see him being key for tough away games against more physical teams!

3.) 27 Sep 2018 08:02:55
‘Citrus flavoured drink?! Bit exotic’ - James Milner.

4.) 27 Sep 2018 08:21:54
It's more the speed of the game he needs to get use to.

Been more slower players that have performed brilliantly in this league.

Probably Jan or next season we will see the best of him.

5.) 27 Sep 2018 08:32:43
I said exactly the same Firmane. He looked like the pace of the game was too much for him for 30 minutes but once he got into it he did well.

6.) 27 Sep 2018 09:51:40
Thought he had a few nice touches and put in a few tackles, remember one specifically where it was a bad pass from Clyne and he dug us out of danger with a tackle.

7.) 27 Sep 2018 11:27:52
Remember when Firmino took 10 games to settle around and now he is God. Patience is a virtue.

8.) 27 Sep 2018 11:54:53
Firmino is quality, but there is only one God.

9.) 27 Sep 2018 19:56:26
OP, so you made all those observations off the back of his debut in a make shift team that has never played together until well, his debut? Really?

Also, Did you factor in the fact that he was definitely nervous, too eager to impress or lacked match sharpness since pre-season or did you totally miss all these factors? Doesn't look like you did.

10.) 27 Sep 2018 23:11:04
I saw him in pre season and he was solid. He was well out of the pace in the first half last night but he got better. He missed a few tackles but he had a tough debut game against one of the top 15 teams in the world. I'd like to see him eased in at the Brighton's and the huddersfield's of the league, build some confidence and get used to the end to end football of the Premier league.

I never really expected to put up any kind of challenge in this game. I think they'll be happy if they don't concede more than 3 goals today.

I have to agree with you on Sturridge there. It was so painful to watch him today. He doesn't make runs, can't hold up the ball and bring others into play, can't dribble, and can't even pass.

I dread the thought of any member of our first 11 getting injured.

Also Keita's display doesn't fill me with hope.

But on the bright side, I was very impressed by young Hoover. And also Fabinho did a decent job at CB.
