Hi Eds,
There've been occasional posts and responses on here that essentially assume that Naby Keita will be sold before long. I'm just wondering: is his recent playing time (and solid form) an indicator that he might indeed have a future here? I don't mean this as a sort of knee-jerk reaction to him scoring two goals, but I'm more curious as to whether his starts are a reflection of being in Klopp's plans or simply a necessity born of fixture congestion.
Thanks!

{Ed001's Note - it is a reflection of Klopp wanting him to find his way and play himself into the team.}

Keita for sale? That makes zero sense for me. Injuries and good form of other mfs has kept him out, mostly injuries. I don't think we can sell such a big signing when he hasn't even had a run of games. He hasn't. He's coming good, we know klopp won't rush players in, the opposite is true in fact.

He has a little touch of class that maybe none of our other midfielders have. And he is still sound defensively. He's coming good now.

Also if we sold him right now I imagine we'd make a loss.

More than making a profit or a loss, the coaching staff will be far more concerned about what level Keita will be performing at for the foreseeable future. The level of last year, the present level or the next level up (the one of RB Liepzig for which he was bought) . We have seen many instances where players were shelved away and then sold for a loss (Super Mario and Lazar Markovic come to mind) if on field performances have no hope of meeting expectations.

For me it's time to sell. Think we will have to take it on the chin and find a more consistent player.

Nonsense Walt. Just think he’s only 24 and had bad luck with injuries. He’s trying to break into a hardworking and quality midfield in a very unforgiving league. Soon he’ll have been at the club for a couple of years and be completely comfortable with the set up, style of play and his role in it. For a player of his ability about to hit his peak years I think we’ll all start to be grateful and see him as a good long term investment. Yes I’m a big fan - most midfielders would kill for a bit of his natural talent. He’s got attributes that can’t be taught - the hardwork and positional stuff can. and the attitude and application should get better as he matures. Patience and good management is what he needs.

Popeyred of course I would like him to do well for us I just don't see it happening. For a team that's challenging for titles and cups we need players that do better than he has offered.

6.) 11 Dec 2019 18:29:44
He's been man of the match for the last two games. For fans who have waited patiently to see him shine, now seems a very odd time to sell. Tbh, I was shocked to even see this mentioned.

Negativewalter, Naby is not getting sold anytime soon. Btw, how's Arsenal doing lately?

Hi Eds,

So I know we've shown no interest in him. but with the club coming into "buy nearly anyone" money, do you think there's ANY chance that Varane could be pried away from Real? I'd personally be happier (or at least AS happy) if we used the Suarez money for him rather than Sanchez, and you've got to figure we'd have a good shout of convincing him to come given how well he plays with Sakho on the French team.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has shown no interest in him.}

Hi Eds - I know it's popped up occasionally on here, but I continue to see several solid sources (alliteration makes it true) mention that Mkhitaryan is a target for us this summer. Odder still is the WAY they mention it, in often just a sort of off-hand "so boring and obvious that it's hardly worth reporting" style. There can't possibly be any truth to this, can there? Wouldn't he cost a load more than Dortmund paid?

Only thing that makes this rumor sound like crap to me is the lack of Man U and Leicester. Why would they be ok with a CL status quo when they have a shot of making it this season?

I don't know what the most fair solution to this is. Maybe if this all blows over within a reasonable time before next season, we play all the games in hand then do CL and relegation playoff tournaments for any teams within, say, 6 points of 4th of 18th? We really do deserve the title, and I doubt many supporters of other clubs (who don't hate us) would disagree. Not sure I'm thrilled about the asterisk, but whatever.

Ed002, I've seen you criticize Klopp for years now, and it used to bother me quite a bit because I rather like him and always felt that you knew some dark secret that nobody else did. I know it'd be as much of a pain as one of those "list of all transfer rumors" posts, but do you think you could lay out a few bullet points of Klopp's infractions for us?

I'm curious as to what constitutes lying and cheating for you, so much so that you'd feel so strongly about it. Namely, I'd like to know if it'd be enough to make ME feel the same way. I initially wrote the tapping-up stuff off as him getting caught doing what everyone else did, but I do get the feeling that it was somewhat worse than that. I'm not in love with the man, but I really enjoy having him as manager and it SEEMS as though most of the players do too. Lying to the WP board isn't nearly enough to change that for me but something more nefarious might be.

{Ed002's Note - It will make it worse and worse. I can give you other things about the club as well, but why drag it down further and Forster?}

I think it's important to note that "decided not to challenge" only means he's not having them test his B sample. According to the Echo, he's going to "plead mitigating circumstances, " which means he's still going to try to fight to get a shorter ban.
