At this time of year its, if, but, maybe the true time of fantasy so bear with me. Now people say we need a proven 20+ goal striker, so what if we move Sturridge on i thin there is a proven premiership striker out there that can do this and has been told to find another club.

so would Diego Costa fit that bill, no one else asked so i felt i had to put it out there, i know he could be a nightmare but he's a proven handful and a good goalscorer.

we have had enough issue players over the years throwing the name under a bus, we don't need anymore trouble!

Balotelli and Suarez is enough for the 21st century.

2.) 10 Jun 2017 11:30:30
No no and no. I would be turn on Suarez returning never mind Costa. Would almost be as bad as the slightest rumour that went about that we could sign Terry.

3.) 10 Jun 2017 12:55:08
Costa in a heartbeat. Are you all insane.

2x premierleague winner, la liga winner, champions league finalist, fa cup winner.

20 goals a season.

Top top top player. Would absolutely transform us and he's a freaking hatd worker so would fit nicely into the team. Id offer 60 million and 200k wages right now. Then figure out what else we need to streghen. Maybe mendy? Then if were lucky peri (rb) with some sales.

4.) 10 Jun 2017 13:10:49
Highly talented and clinical striker. Would cost a packet and embarrass the team with his play acting and sly kicks at the opposition. Filthy player.

5.) 10 Jun 2017 13:32:23
Could you imagine what Klopp would do to Costa though, look at Sakho and he's an angel compared to costa.

6.) 10 Jun 2017 13:41:09
Such a pointless debate.

Why would he come?

Defensive reinforcements all the way. Kane scored 29 goals last season and they still didn't win the title despite having one of the best defences.

Winning the league isn't as cut and dry as scoring more goals and letting less in.

7.) 10 Jun 2017 13:51:27
I must say Im big admirer of Diego Costa and i think he would suit our style of play perfectly. He works so hard and his behavior on the pitch was better this season. we need warriors nor ballet dancers! If he is really free to go from chelsea I would say take a risk, we are emberasment anyway lol.

8.) 10 Jun 2017 16:16:34
87 but your definitely adding to your causw with a top striker.

Spurs have just come acrosd two hughly performing teams and been incredibly unlucky. But i would take to top 3 finishes rather than worrying aboht finishing 4th.

Ive never been a fan of VVD even when he was at Celtic and my brother was raving about him but if the deal is confirmed like i expect (i trust in macca as usual) he will be 110% support from me like every Liverpool player, dam i even put up with paul ince. Now i think at the prices been thrown around its overpriced, I must say im old school i think no player is worth 1 million, overpaid popinjays who complain if they gave to work an extra day (3 matches in one week) but in reality if he helps shore up our defence which leads to success he will be worth every penny if not more, we leak too many silly goals and just as an add on my brother says he was one of the leaders at Celtic and leadership on the pitch is something we also need badly. So as I trust in macca let the crazy summer continue and WHOS NEXT.

At the end of the day vvd imo is better than what we have got. I think him in the box for set pieces will help significantly. He's 25 he has all the physical attributes you need to be a world class cb and klopp obviously backs himself to help him get to that level. We've got that extra tv money why not spend it on someone that could be great. Him and salah are great buys imo and we're looking scary to everyone else. We must get a quality lb in and then I will be massively content with our incomings this season.

On a light note from today, i was in the pub watching the match with the mates and when the chaos around the penalty was happening i couldn't help myself but bust out laughing, what i was laughing at was Foster and Milner, with foster so big and Milner standing there so small with his head bowed i couldn't help think it was a father disciplining his child (I know strange thoughts at weird times what) .
On a serious note Foster is entitled to try intimidate Milner (I do not like it but BS like that goes on all over the pitch) but when he scrapes the penalty spot he should be booked from what i understand. He made a good save and the match if we are honest was one team trying not to lose and the other trying to win but not putting enough into it, again we get out of jail because of the later result, but let's hope for better next week.

1.) 07 May 2017 22:28:02
Milner should have just walked away and Foster started his antics.

2.) 08 May 2017 12:14:42
Spot on, Nicky. He should not have gotten into it with him (I know, hindsight is 20/ 20). When I played and took penalties, I always walked away from all that and placed the ball and waited for the whistle from the ref (while staring at the ref) and never looking at the GK. Anyway as they say, only those who take penalties, miss them and Milner was due to miss them at some point and thankfully, it may have cost us a victory BUT did not cost us CL footie as we still have our destiny in our hands.

Hi Eds and Reds, got a general question for you, what you think of this planned video replay a fifth official sitting in a room saying whether offside or not for example. personally i am against it totally for two main reasons, one. the speed of football is one of the best things about it and it will slow it down and go towards making it a longer match and could eventually end up like nfl (which although i love nfl taking 3 hours for a 60 minute game is nuts)
two. mistakes will still happen and i have a good example for this, man utd vs anderlect the ibrahimavic goal, the pundits during the game couldn't even agree whether it onside or offside the official bt have on their books couldn't determine straight away which was right, so if they couldn't do this and where still disagreeing after 5 minutes how is an extra official going to make those snap calls and expect to be right all the time it will slow the game down then add all other decisions he thinks the ref has got wrong football will he be speaking to the ref to change his decision or is he just going to be there to be called on if needed. To me this right up there with van bastens ideas for sin bins and no offside.

bruffio

{Ed001's Note - I am with you, in that I think this is the wrong way to do it.}

1.) 02 May 2017 14:11:38
Perhaps if this is a likely route, it can be similar to tennis in that the teams have a set amount of things they can challenge.

2.) 02 May 2017 14:16:01
I have my reservations and I've heard a lot of good arguments both for and against it. If it slows things down too much, it'll ruin the game as you say. Ultimately, we're not going to know until it's properly tested, so why not give it a go? If works keep it. If not, take it away and maybe try something else.

3.) 02 May 2017 14:25:22
Personally I feel you are looking at extreme circumstances. So let's look at extreme circumstances which would be helped via video. Dirty tackles and stamps. Obvious fouls like shirt pulling and the hot topic of diving. People will say these offences could be dealt with with retrospective action by the fa but let's face it it isn't. So personally I think it's inevitable we will see video being brought in which I support. Let's face it enough time gets wasted now during matches via the decisions which are being made now. Plus we see players fighting and dissent to the officials for the decisions being made. Which is another part of the game which needs to be cleaned up as it sets a bad example to the younger generations.

4.) 02 May 2017 15:03:49
I think it could be put in for penalty decisions and goals which have a suspicion of offside. Because it takes a while to get a penalty organised and by that time a video ref could have watched the incident several times and be able to give the right verdict. Same with offside goals. By the time the team stop celebrating you would have a decision. If they're too close for a quick call then the goal/ penalty stands.

{Ed001's Note - the only time I have seen a video ref used, it was in the A-League and it took over two minutes and still came to the wrong decision.....}

5.) 02 May 2017 15:19:12
I would be in favor only in circumstance where the ref is unsure and play has already stopped (i. e. a goal being awarded but unsure on offside) and I think each side should have just one challenge only in event of a penalty or a goal being awarded.

6.) 02 May 2017 15:24:01
Bruffio, they should do it the way it is done in the NFL. If there is not enough evidence to overturn the call after looking at it closely for however long required, the ruling on the field stands. It is effective on this front however since the offside rule has so many grey areas in it, there would still be problems.

7.) 02 May 2017 15:43:35
I think each team should get 1 referal per half. But I also love watching rugby league and that's a fast game and they have video ref.

8.) 02 May 2017 15:54:14
Zimbo mate I'm with you only review decision if it leads to a goal penalty where the game is already stopped anyway or in the case of bad tackles while a player is being treated where the game is already stopped.

9.) 02 May 2017 16:39:27
Do you stop the play if the ref is unsure about a pen, what I mean by that is currently if it's a pen it's a pen and the game is stopped. It's not stopped if the ref doesn't think it is one and therefore no natural break in play. So scenario, ref correctly calls no pen, team goes down the other end and scores, perfect. New scenario, ref is unsure so thinks id better use video or I'll get destroyed, game stops but he was right, no pen. Other team is back and organised defensively now. Or does the game carry on and he halts it 30seconds later and it all gets called back.
I just cannot see a way the game is not irrevocably changed. Tennis, NFL are almost like lots of individual points played separately. They stop and can be replayed, or a decision made. Even rugby stops. Football is so flued that an entire game could turn out differently if the 1st kick off was played to different players. According to string theory that's happening somewhere and so somewhere we're winning the league every year 😂👍.

10.) 02 May 2017 16:45:14
*fluid not flued!

11.) 02 May 2017 18:08:13
In hockey they do referrals and the ref can chose. I worry about referrals as surely a team could just refer a nothing tackle when the other team is on the counter to stop them. Similarly, if the ref isn't sure, do they wait for play to stop, or do they just do it as soon as - if no foul occurred, again it could stop a counter. Or it could be 10 minutes before the ball goes out again.

12.) 02 May 2017 19:45:53
In the Watford game, we saw a ref get hit by the ball and make up a rule on the spot to cover for it. We also saw them miss several fouls and offsides simply from not watching the flow of the game first. Video refs can't help if they don't do themselves any favours - every once in a while there will be an extreme case (like Costa's stamp on Can when play had moved well on last season, or a foul right on the edge of the box where the ref can't see if its in or out) but they won't reverse the wave of bad decisions happening in the flow of play right now which are caused by little more than the poor positioning and attention of refs. What will help is better training and better fitness.

13.) 02 May 2017 20:44:26
For me they should only review goals scored as there is a natural break in play anyways. And then if they really want to go there, then allow the referee to review potential penalty incidents.

Hi Eds not watched as much youth and u23 football this season as i usually do but caught up a bit on youtube last night and see that we seem to have another exiting prospect coming through, Rhian Brewster, now i read on the lfc site he has played a closed game for the first team in front of Klopp where he scored a hattrick and he's working with Steve McManaman, now at the age of 17 (just) playing for the u23 side seems really good sign, but can you tell me how high he is thought of at the club or is his fast development an unexpected good surprise for the club.

bruffio

{Ed001's Note - he was not seen as anywhere near ready before the season started, so, while highly rated, it is a surprise that he has made such progress this season.}

1.) 20 Apr 2017 14:15:07
Bru, check out how many goals he has scored for the England teams, he has banged in a few already this season .

2.) 20 Apr 2017 14:21:06
will do red and thanks ed.

3.) 20 Apr 2017 14:49:08
He was also released last season or the season before due to some issues he was having. Thankfully he seems to be over them and is progressing very well.

4.) 20 Apr 2017 19:52:33
Jezza I don't believe that's true but happily corrected if wrong, he left Chelsea and came to us as he said he didn't see any way into their first team so turned down a contract and moved on. If true then that's surely a good sign that he striving to get to the top.

I remember when Fowler had a drought and when Evans was asked about it he replied as long as he still getting in the positions and having the chances it will come, Mo is still getting in the positions still getting chances so give it time. You all have to admit expecting another 40+ goal season was a dream of sheer ecstasy.

Concussion is a big concern in all sports at the minute, i think the nfl handle it best, that i have seen so far. If a player is suspected of having a concussion he's not allowed back on the field until he sees the doctor on the sidelines, now in football that would lead to substitution problems, ie could you have a medical temporary sub to allow a player to leave the field which would mean a greater amount of subs, maybe going too far for our sport but worth looking into. Also after the game the player isn't even allowed to train until he passes an independent concussion protocol test. But back to the UCL if Karius had a concussion and it wasnt picked up by our medical team that's a concern that will have to be addressed as with the hype concussion has got over recent years im sure they have all went to seminars etc to learn about early signs.
AND for the fans who say well Karius should have told someone how he was feeling ill say this youve never been a young sportsman where your trying prove yourself and will -play through any barrier to prove you belong.

sorry putney although i agree england should have had 2 penalties no player should be able to call for a review, even the captain. the rules they have given the officials are absolute stupid like no flagging tight offside calls Var will officiate them calls absolute nonsense, i don't approve of var i also don't approve the new offside rules go back to the original rule offside is offside, sorry i drift off topic, but like tonight if the decisions are not consistent there is no reason for it to be there.

Nice post Ron but i disagree on a few things, its not Brilliance from Benzema the ball could have went anywhere after he blocked the pass, its lack of awareness of where he is moving from Karius. I can't blame VVD or Lovren for Bales second, Bale is in the area infront Robertson which before Salah unfortunately went off youd have found Mane who actually gives Robertson more protection than he got from Lallana. I can forgive Karius more for that goal then the first as it moves and dips alot, but i think its caused by the first mistake in a way his head is still in the clouds from it and if you watch his feet its like playing chess he's already thinking he's catching it and giving it back out to our players to try quickly get back up the field.
Trent Arnold only gave the ball away because of a lack of options after he settled down i can't recall Marcelo, Ronaldo orIsco skinning him so thought he done well.
