Hi Eds,

How long is BR's new contract?

Thanks Eds for all your work and for keeping this website running. I can't help but keep thinking in my mind, "How does Eds seem to know almost everything in football world?". Would be very happy to know that because it had been in my mind for a very long time!

And, how is Macca doing now? Haven't heard from him for a few months now.

Thanks in advance Eds

{Ed001's Note - I am told it is a rolling 5 year contract, not sure what exactly is meant by the rolling bit in this case though.

Last time I spoke to Macca he was fine, that was a couple of months ago now though.}

Hi,

Question for Ed001. I for one would love to hear Ed001 explanation and opinion on Klopp's tactical, 4-2-3-1 'gegenpressing'. Is it the same as the pressing game that we saw in 13/14 season? Do you think that it will be effective in our league?

I'm really looking forward to see how players like Benteke, Sturridge, Coutinho, Ings, Firmino, Hendo and especially Teixeira perform under Klopp.

Thanks mate :)

{Ed001's Note - it is closest in style to the Pochettino style that Spurs are using. High press, sweeper keeper, try and box the opposition in their own half, but then a quick drop off if the ball is not won back quickly to take up standard defensive positions. He also uses the trigger system Rodgers did during those 6 months when we actually played well, in that the players are given cues to look for to push the press again. Things such as poor control or a loose pass will see a press for a few seconds before dropping back into defensive positions.

The most important thing is really how it is used to attack, because the ball is being won back higher up the pitch, usually, with the opposition out of position, the idea is to hit hard and fast before your opponent has time to get set up properly.}

Thanks for the detailed response ed, just thinking about this new set up will greatly improve the effectiveness of our new beast of a striker benteke, after all I remember how effective he used to be on the quick counter (especially against us) pace, power and an option of a 1st time ball whipped in, exiting times

{Ed001's Note - so long as he remembers to play his part in the pressing, which is something he has struggled with in the past. A high press requires all the players to work hard. Carrying passengers will lead to gaps.}

Ideally in our best team of all fit I'd play hendo Lucas coutinho And two of Ings benteke and Sturridge. That leaves a position for ibe/firmino in some games and Milner/can in others for me.

3.) 08 Oct 2015 14:47:28
Think he'll go one up top which means Sturridge and Benteke will have to share.

its called heavy metal football lads and i for one can't wait to see it being played at anfield! Klopp to Liverpool who would of thought it amazing and good on FSG for getting it done and shout out to the EDS and MAcca for breaking the news like last week! who need SSN when we have this website!

on a sour note i do feel sorry for o'driscoll and Mcallister i agree with ed2 on that bit were Mcallister should walk away as they have been treated badly, if FSG were more decisive Klopp could have come in last summer and Rodgers gone! least they got it right eventually but at a cost.

Klopp welcome to LFC going to be great to watch a real manager make Lfc roar again!

Hi ED001 in your opinion would be the best Liverpool players for a 4-5-1 formation?

Thank you,

{Ed001's Note - I think an answer to that would require a separate thread on the teams and formation page mate. If I answer it here the page will just get clogged up with formations, at least until the Klipperty announcement.}

6.) 08 Oct 2015 16:59:59
ed01, I actually thought Klopp steered away from the gegenpressing in his last season at dortmund since it was too taxing on the players. Your thoughts? (don't mind my username)

{Ed001's Note - he did at times yes, against the weaker teams he tried to play a less physically tiring game which was why they struggled. The feeling around the club was it wore out the players, but I have never seen any evidence that it true. If they are getting tired then they simply aren't fit enough. The work a footballer goes through is nothing compared to those in solo sports, such as tennis, yet they also play less often than say a tennis player. The issue with footballers is their lifestyle, very few live like athletes and so they are simply not as fit as they should be. A player like Nedved would stay behind after training to practice, then go home and train in his gym, and he never suffered with burnout etc. It is utter crap to excuse laziness if you ask me, this burnout stuff. It is mentality that is letting them down. That is fine for someone in a factory, to go out on the lash and then not work at full capacity, they can get away with it, or to be out all night sleeping around whatever, and then have a bad day at the office the following day. In football players get away that when the style of football is less hectic and slower paced, but they can't do that when they are playing a fast paced game or the lack of professionalism catches up on them. So I have no sympathy when they are tired. Plus the manager has a squad at his disposal, if players really are suffering then rest them and play a back up. It is a good way to give kids a chance.}

Thank you for your time replying to my question ED001.

How are you reacting to the news?

{Ed001's Note - still grinning like a loon and getting ready for all my xmases to come at once.....}

Hi. Question for Ed001 and fellow reds.

Next season, do you think we'll need 4 strikers? Let say we sell Lambert and Borini. We'll still have 3 strikers in Sturridge, Balotelli and Origi which is enough considering we play with one striker most of the time. Would rather the money to be spent on a goalkeeper and a midfielder. Else if we really need 4 strikers, someone like Ings or Kramaric will do.

What do you think?

Thanks in advance.

bleed_reds

{Ed001's Note - I think we need to get rid of Balotelli first and foremost.}

1.) 23 Feb 2015 10:05:33
I think mainly we need another world class striker.

Sturridge will be injured again so we need the cover properly.

Mignolet has shown enough for me to stay number 1 and we have ward as cover who is probably better than jones already.

We have loads of midfielders at the club I don't think we need more.
Can will cover as DM if lucas does go, and hopefully ilori will come back and compete with the CBs

2.) 23 Feb 2015 10:58:29
Agree with Lavers. Sturridge, ings and origi will not be enough for next season if the club is serious about challenging for the BPL. One is injury prone, while the other 2 do not have experience of playing for title challenging clubs. We definitely need an experienced frontman next season to challenge.

Hi Eds and fellow reds.

Sad to see Gerrard leaves. Would be weird to no longer have him in our team. But I believe that Henderson will become a good captain next season.

My question to Ed001; what kind of person Henderson is? Never know how a lad he is hence I would love to know more on him. Would love to hear from those who knows or have met him.

Thanks :)

bleed_reds

{Ed001's Note - I don't know him that well, met him a couple of times while he was at Sunderland, but not since he joined us. He was a very nice lad back then, absolutely obsessed with football. He was a real worker, not just on fitness, but on his touch and technique too. Very quiet back then, though a couple of his team mates reckoned he was far from quiet usually, they said he was just shy initially.}

1.) He is a sound lad, met and spoke to him several times in formby mainly cafe Nero, he seems to love the club and he is a genuine nice guy off the pitch

2.) 05 Jan 2015 14:27:33
My father has met him a few times. He says he is polite and very reserved and not at all a big 'I am'.

3.) Ed001 what sort of guy is Lallana? My cousin who was at Fulham's academy met him when he played soton and told be he is a lovely fellow who spoke to all the boys for good half an hour.

{Ed002's Note - I am told by an ex-player that Lallana is a very pleasant young man - pretty much liked by all. He did apparently upset his Southampton neighbours with some construction work in his garden.}

Hi Ed001,

I saw your post that Lovren was brought in as a left sided centre back. Is it only me who think we should've dropped Skrtel and play Lovren at right centre back with Sakho at left centre back? He is two footed, isn't he? Honestly, I would like us to give this partnership a try. What do you think Ed001?

Thanks

bleed_reds

{Ed001's Note - I would have done that, he was brought to cover both positions, for me it would have been Skrtel out.}

Hi, question and banter for Ed001 and fellow reds,

I think next season we should be much better than this season. The inevitable change of the manager/coaching staff and players moving on would make things much better next season. I'm very optimistic about the future.

Think about it:

1) The new DoF and head coach system. There's so much room for improvement here and can see our team start playing much better with better tactics, system and coaching.

2)Player moving on and being moved on. Players who contracts are expiring at the end of the season should be moved on (Gerrard, Johnson, Toure). The same goes for players who are not good enough for our club (Aspas, Assaidi, Jones, Mignolet, Alberto, Enrique, Skrtel, Balotelli, Allen, Borini, Manquillo, Coates)

3) Young players should be given chances and replace most of the outgoing. Ibe, Origi, Ward, Texiera, Suso, Brad Smith, Wisdom, Illori, McLaughlin and etc. ).

What is your opinion Ed001? Do you agree with my optimism? I'm not saying that for sure we would become world-beater next season. But who knows what the future holds and thing can only get better from now on.

p/s: sorry for my bad English, I'm Malaysian btw.

Cheers :)

bleed_reds

{Ed001's Note - I am worried that the young players will be the ones going personally. I mean Suso still has no contract with us for next season, what are the hopes of keeping him??}
