Just want to start a post on peoples opinions on 1) the best player of your generation and 2) the best player you have seen live

1) zidane, if it wasn't for the headbutt he would have won two world cups almost single handed and was a just an exceptional player

2) xabi alonso, no matter the opponent he always seemed to have all the time in the world and I'm pretty sure Stevie learnt how to ping it 40 yards looking up to him

1) Has to be leo messi the guy is just another level.

2) Has to be luis suarez 2013/2014 he was so good he made everyone around him better never stopped pressing/running. Amazing player.

2.) 04 Sep 2015 04:22:11
1. Zidane and only Zidane. There are players and midfielders and then there is Zidane.
Sir Alex quoted once ". Give me Zidane and 10 sticks, I would win the league. "

2. Suarez / Gerrard. ". We keep saying next year is our year. Suarez single handedly made it into the reality. "

Gerrard is one reason millions outside fell in love with the club.

3.) 04 Sep 2015 04:24:57
1) & 2) Diego Maradona.

The only 1 man team in history. He turned an average team into league champions in the hardest league in the world and he turned his nation into world champions, almost twice.

Forget diving, Maradona had to literally hurdle challenges to avoid serious injury. At the World Cup, the highest stage, he made nations look clueless (and they were).
There is no praise high enough to describe Maradona on a football pitch. "Genius" does not come close
However, he was also a cheat and a disgrace. 😀

{Ed001's Note - Maradona is the best player I have ever seen play the game. Even Fowler can't compare. There is no better player, Pele was great, but Maradona was a whole other level to anyone else. For once Ron, and I doubt this will become a habit, but I am in total agreement with your post.}

4.) 04 Sep 2015 04:36:59
1) zlatan- the guy has an aura its like he can do anything .

2) jay jay okocha- he was plain mad there was always a sense of madness whenever he had the ball.

5.) 04 Sep 2015 06:50:16
All great players but Maradona for me . I always thought Zidane was top drawer as well

6.) 04 Sep 2015 08:21:23
A) i was going to say Zidane but have to agree on Maradona.
B) stevie g

Not really exciting but thems the facts.

{Ed002's Note - (a) Garincha. (b) Probably Cruyff. Perhaps Zico or Willington Ortiz.

It is always difficult to cross generations.}

7.) 04 Sep 2015 08:36:53
1) Zidane for me. A truly exceptional footballer, who's ability was on another planet.

2) Performance wise live; Either Suarez vs Norwich 13/14 or Gerrard vs Madrid 08/09.

8.) 04 Sep 2015 08:39:16
Maradona, the best ever and John Barnes 1987-90 but the player who inspired me most was Djimi Traore. Watching him scuff and slice everything that came near him made me believe I could make it as apro

9.) 04 Sep 2015 08:45:43
Maradonna won leagues and world cups all by himself oh and he was/is mad as a hatter.

Seen live, jonhny barnes mate, silky smooth and could do it all.

10.) 04 Sep 2015 10:00:03
I cannot believe people have not mentioned George Best. Aside he played for the Mancs and he loved to drink, by he'll he made teams look stupid on his own.

Boaz

11.) 04 Sep 2015 10:22:29
1. For it has to be Messi, they way he dribbles past opposition is just a joy to behold.
2.Best performance will be Suarez vs Norwich, 2013/14 season. I'm sure Paul Ruddy, was happy when he left.

12.) 04 Sep 2015 10:24:35
Shout out to Okocha too. He was a special player.

13.) 04 Sep 2015 10:54:38
Edson Arantes do Nascimento

14.) 04 Sep 2015 12:09:53
Diego Armando Maradona, what a player, Messi is the closet person to him Ronaldo not even in my top ten not just saying that due to manc connection.

1. Maradonna
2. Messi
3. Best
4. Pele
5. Fat Ronaldo
6. Jinky Johnston (Celtic)
7. Zidane
8. Moore
9. Zico
10.Cruff. not Jordi his Dad!!

15.) 04 Sep 2015 12:20:24
Ronaldinho for me was just so entertaining to watch pity his career went to pants so early.
Suarez hands down best player iv seen live special mention for Christian vieri.

16.) 04 Sep 2015 14:30:43
Maradona played in the 80's in Italy at a time when defenders were able to get away with career threathening injuries every game.

17.) 04 Sep 2015 15:27:04
01- Depends if I count my generation as 80's or 90's
80's -Maradona
90's- Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima

02- Dalglish, was in the twilight of his career but still remember leaving Anfield knowing I'd seen greatness

18.) 04 Sep 2015 16:26:53
Cannot believe it nobody has mentioned gazza best player from my era and the best a seen live,

19.) 04 Sep 2015 20:13:19
Messi and Messi. Absolutely mesmerising on TV and even better live

20.) 05 Sep 2015 04:03:35
Pele, Maradona and Ronaldo Luiz Nazario. But if I had to choose, it would have to be Ronaldo or as some disrespectful fans would call Fat Ronaldo. He was simply the best footballer I have ever seen in my thirty plus years of watching the game. He used to give me chills just watching him terrorize defenses for club and country. Won a World Cup on one good knee and had it not been his injuries, he would have eclipsed Pele and Maradona, IMO.

P/S: Messi and CR can go fly a kite

21.) 05 Sep 2015 14:55:44
Maradona then pele then romario then fat ronaldo messi and ronaldo slim one don't come close to these guys!!

25 Aug 2015 18:30:23
Ay lads

Now I've seen how excellent bentekes first touch and menace around the box I feel sturridge can do what suarez did two years ago. A front three of sturridge benteke firmino with coutinho dropping deeper and now that Rodgers seems to have learned he has to change things against the big teams.

Top four? Champions more like

bigmick17

1.) 25 Aug 2015 19:32:02
Nice one mick😎

2.) 25 Aug 2015 19:44:43
Sounds good but I fear fourth is the best we can hope for and that's with luck and plenty of it

3.) 25 Aug 2015 20:28:13
Going by early season form, it looks as though City are the ones to look out for this year, but they are the only ones out of the big teams that really look ready to go for it. So far it looks like 2nd - 8th could go to anyone of the regulars.

4.) 25 Aug 2015 21:02:22
I would gladly take 4th, with plenty of luck or not. For me that is a massive step in the right direction. In fact i would take 4th for the next 3 seasons to consolidate our position before trying to get that elusive trophy.

5.) 25 Aug 2015 21:09:11
Draw away at the big sides and smash them
At home ! Should always be the plan

6.) 26 Aug 2015 00:59:13
The big games on the road,MIT is IMPORTANT to avoid defeat. If you can nick it, have at it but certainly, don't lose. That's how Mou does it every time Chelsea play away at the big clubs

7.) 26 Aug 2015 01:51:58
I personally think we should be satisfied with where we are now (luck or not)
Away @ Stoke we didn't expect to win - 0 point
Home vs Bournemouth maybe win/draw game - 1 or 3 points
Away @ Arsenal written off by most - 0 point
Total = 3 points at best

So I'm glad how everything turns out now that we have 7 points.
Looking back at Monday's game and we can maintain the way we play ,we can be more optimistic on coming games .

Tomorrow's papers reporting the Lucas Brendan just up, well done eds. I didn't believe it at first.

Now if Lucas leaves do you see us chasing a replacement or getting by with what we have?

Medel?

bigmick17

1.) 11 Aug 2015 00:52:25
we will buy kroos :)

2.) 11 Aug 2015 04:00:23
BR doesn't want a DM so as good a DM as Medel is, it ain't going to happen.

3.) 11 Aug 2015 05:37:14
Kovacic might happen.

06 Aug 2015 21:39:42
Just looking at our possible front four now we know Milner and hendo should be holding. Coutinho, firmino, lallana, benteke.

With ibe and sturridge on the bench could we possibly have the best attack in the league.

Most will say no but I feel if we tighten our defence we could have another season like the one before last.

bigmick17

{Ed030's Note - I think City with Silva, Sterling and Aguero have the best attack in the league followed by Hazard, Willian, Costa and maybe Arsenal if they buy a decent striker. I expect Sturridge to start when fit at most likely the expensive of Lallana out of the names you mentioned. }

1.) 07 Aug 2015 05:40:44
Milner and Hendo holding is a terrible idea where both are not holding players and theirs biggest strength is to push high up the pitch and press high.

2.) 07 Aug 2015 05:42:20
Ed030, it could be Sterling - Aguero - KDB with silva behind.

{Ed030's Note - De Bruyne had a fantastic season in the Bundesliga and I would be very unhappy if he moves to City. He should wait another season or two for Madrid,Barca or Bayern to move for him imo. }

3.) 07 Aug 2015 11:45:32
If they work together well, 1 can hold while the other presses, with their fitness, levels, they should be able to press enough. With 4 players in front of them, they should make up for the pressing too

Hi eds how big is Liverpools first team coaching squad compared to other big clubs, I know we just replaced two of ours but from what I can see we don't have as many coaches as say city, Chelsea, arsenal and United. Why not? Surely this is detrimental to our players? I would like to see hyypia and zenden join because they seem good coaches and carragher simply because of his organisation when he was a players. He knows how to defend

bigmick17

{Ed001's Note - we don't have as many as most do these days, because the manager sets out how many he wants. As for the rest, I would rather we went and got the best coaches rather than give out jobs for the boys.}

Personally ed I thought when arry was at spurs they were one of the best pl sides, considering the state they were in under Ramos, I also feel he helped bale and modric become top players although I know he never fancied bale but he was still the guy who playedhim left wing. Also I feel he would have done a much better job at England than woy. A few years back I would have liked to see him manage us. Just my opinion bro

bigmick17

{Ed001's Note - hahaha you must be reading too many papers. This is Harry who never took training on the training ground just watched his coaches do it, so how did he make Bale and Modric better? Modric was already top class, it is just that people here know nothing about Croatian players so had never heard of him. Bale he nearly destroyed and didn't want him, it was an injury crisis and luck that made Bale, not Redknapp. Harry is clueless about management, he has a fantastic knowledge about players, but not about management. As for Spurs being in a state under Ramos, it was not as bad as being made out.}

Also eds if you do answer, what is your opinion on him as a manager? Personally I would have liked him at Liverpool so long as his spending was monitored. I think he did a brilliant job at spurs and shouldn't have left. Though that was mainly the FA fault for tapping him up xx

bigmick17

{Ed001's Note - he was hopeless. How did he do a brilliant job? He was just lucky that the media loved him and so only reported good things about him. Dreadful manager.}
