To take our mind of things. A couple of years ago Ed002 said something about the french youth training on this site. If I remember correctly it was about making young players more versatile and less rigid in formations, please do correct me if I'm wrong mister 002. It made me wonder how football is evolving, the game itself. How do you guys and girls see the game being played in ten years time? It would be interesting to get the eds superior knowledge on this one to.

{Ed002's Note - A good question. You are correct that for a number of years the French have been training youngsters at Clairefontaine and the other French academies to be more versatile and adaptable with a view to less rigid formations being used outside of the defence in the future - and that continues as we move forward. In the coming years you will see China emerging as a footballing nation. Currently the leading academy (Guangzhou Evergrande) has been formed in partnership with Real Madrid where in excess of 30 Spanish coaches are working with the kids to develop versatile skills and techniques. The Evergrande academy is different from those being set up by European sides in China as it is not looked at as providing a revenue stream for the club, but a long-term plan to bring success to Chinese footbal. In ten years you will see more versatility in players than there is right now. So perhaps a good thing.}

As always thank you for your insight in these parts of the game that us mere mortals hardly know anything about. Really interesting and something I look forward to seeing on the field.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

I want to start by apologizing, but I want to complain a bit. When VAR was introduced I hoped it would help make the game more honest, but now for me it sucks all the joy out of the game. I only follow the Liverpool games, so I can't really comment on other teams games, but the mistakes from VAR seem to get more ridiculous every week. I know it should balance itself out over the course of a season, but so do referee mistakes, so let's get rid of this VAR thing already and bring the fun back in the game.

VAR really if it was foul nevermind a Penalty just glad we WON.

2.) 24 Oct 2020 22:31:59
It seems it's ok to put a choke-hold on an opposition player during a corner kick but if 1/ 4 of a mil is offside, well that's a far more serious matter. What a joke it has become. #VAROUT.

3.) 24 Oct 2020 23:12:33
If you are a 1/ 4 of a mil offside you're offside personally I have no issue with that. But what I do have an issue with is a penalty being given when it wasnt a foul and it was outside the box. Chelsea clearly should've had one for the headlock that undoubtedly would've been given if it was for penchester United rather than against.

4.) 25 Oct 2020 01:40:55
The use of VAR for offside with the use of current technology is bull. Unless the camera is in line with the defensive line, no matter what lines you draw, all decisions will be flawed due to parallax error!

Unless you put cameras that are able to cover the sidelines all these offside decisions are crap.

Same goes for a penalty decision when you’re looking at play from front it’s impossible to determine the location of the foul.

{Ed0666's Note - I love it when you talk dirty Waqas. Say Parallax again in a soft voice.

5.) 25 Oct 2020 09:39:30
Waqas according to Melissa Reddy, she and some journalists went to Stokely Park before VAR was implemented and on this topic of showing ver someone can be shown to be 100% offside, the people said that the tec. is NOT 100% suitable to determine whether a player can be completely offside BUT the law said you are either offside or not hence, black and white.

So in essence, they put in a law should determine on 100% basis YET admit in private, that the tech. being used to enforce this law, CANNOT do so 100%. See where this is going? Having learned that this week, I am not surprised one bit with the shambles we are saying and PGMOL (who know the system is as flawed as Reddy describe) are just there to cover for their incompetence. The worst thing is that we can all see that the Emperor (PGMOL) has NO clothes on but they thing they are the best dressed at the Royal Ball.

6.) 25 Oct 2020 13:03:51
The worse thing is, before VAR, it was clearly needed. Basic errors were being made and the tech could help them.

The problem is we are operating it incorrectly, either not being brave enough to stand up to the ref on the pitch or just plain incompetence.

Maguire today in particular was a woeful decision, I can accept the ref missing it as the game moves quickly and his position may not be the best but with the tech there is no excuse, none.

You will never remove controversy completely as rose tinted glasses will always sway your opinions but VAR was meant to limit it.

I am just watching motd and in the palace game it was used perfectly, VAR can work but it needs improvement and quickly imo.

Dear 002, not a Liverpool related question. You show us glimpses of how clubs are run, Chelsea's youth policy, Liverpool's respectless dealings with other clubs, Manchester United's amateurish set up. Time permitting would you be able to do a more in depth article about the set up of clubs, which clubs have, in your opinion, an admirable set up, business wise, sportive, youth development. And which clubs are a shambles. I would be very interested in reading your analysis. Thank you very much.

{Ed002's Note - Remind me in a month or so please.}

Maybe a good idea to pre write the deranged posts accusing you of "Liverpool bias" as you write it Ed002 😉.

2.) 15 Aug 2020 15:27:06
Ed02, sorry if this seems stupid. Who is your team, mate? (not who do you play football with! ) are you a Liverpool fan?

{Ed002's Note - When I first moved to England I was living in Chelsea so they would be my preferred team. I am not a "fan" obviously.}

3.) 15 Aug 2020 17:25:24
I'm sorry to hear that ed02! How do you fancy their chances next season? Made some very significant signings. I'd still be worried with kepa in goal and no world class cb.

I dunno what it is but there seems an uncharacteristic softness to Chelsea last season. Should've won the Cup final. Much better team than arsenal (not on the day but on paper) and the home record wasn't great and also not winning enough after scoring first (like the final too)

{Ed002's Note - They'll do OK I would think. They still have changes to make.}

4.) 16 Aug 2020 02:15:08
ed2 - you a fan of any team?

{Ed002's Note - I would not consider myself a "fan" but when we moved to England we went to live Chelsea.}

This has nothing to do with liverpool, but i was wondering if ed 002 has read the book: the age of anger by Pankaj Mishra, and if yes, if he/ she was willing to give his/ her view on the book. please post on appropriate page and forgive me for my english it's not my first language.

baker

{Ed002's Note - I haven't but a quick look at the summary I must say it looks very interesting and I will find a copy and have a read. Thanks for the tip Baker.}

1.) 17 Jun 2017 23:44:51
Fantastic book a very good read,
By the way Baker, not sure if you were being sarcastic about the language, your post is close to perfect English and better than most in here including the eds.

5 years now, how long have you been away from Liverpool?

baker

{Ed001's Note - just 2 years now, I went back for a few months before moving here.}

No mate, I’m not interested in international football. I met my wife, who’s Brazilian, in Belgium. We decided to visit her family for a couple of months and I just never returned. We bought a small farm in the mountains and that’s the story really. But you’re absolutely right, it’s hard seeing your parents and in my case also my grandfather age when you don’t get to see them for prolonged periods of time.

baker

{Ed001's Note - how long have you been there?}

@ed 001, really you guys have parents, I thought all editors were molded by the gods and put among us mere mortals for insight in football matters. That’s enough brown nosing from me today. Joking aside enjoy the time with your parents, as a Belgian living in Brasil I know how precious it is to have loved ones over from your homeland.

baker

{Ed001's Note - maybe that is how the other editors arrived here, but I was put among them to prove that even an editor is merely human. Thanks mate, it is very good to see them, though not seeing them for so long makes it really hit home how old they have gotten! How did you end up in Brazil? Are you like one of those Scots that went abroad for a World Cup and just never left after it finished?}

It would be amazing if Darwin could add some more goals to his game. But in my opinion he offers so much already, his runs off the ball, his chasing back, his creativity and selflessness in front of the goal to set up team mates in better positions… of course he’s not perfect and it would be great if he got even better, but he’s one of my favourite players already.

@VV who knew that Paul Tierney had such a sophisticated pallet, I thought he settled for the blood of young virgins.
