There have been speculations in local media, that Steaua keeper Giedrius Arlauskis might join an EPL club, that is looking for a keeper in January.

As Steaua is facing problems in Romania (they are under some legal issues, actually they lost the club name as well), it is possible they might be selling cheap. And i can not think of any other EPL club, that needs a keeper so much.

Maybe he could be a good competition for Migs. He was described by critics as "showing one of the best form in Europe" this autumn and he was awarded his country's footballer of the year just few days ago.

Zaibys

{Ed002's Note - No chance of a move to Liverpool. Perhaps Roma.}

1.) I just translated the romanian site, and it was mentioned that the EPL club that had talks with the agent was indeed Liverpool. However, nothing has yet been agreed.
A couple of weeks ago in the interview keeper admitted that Roma and Fiorentina were interested, and that he himself is a LFC fan, but did not reveal anything else.

Hi, I am a Liverpool fan from Lithuania, and today I saw this article all over the local media: "Young Lithuanian keeper Emilijus Zubas attracted interest of Liverpool".

Some interesting facts, as I assume information is very limited from eastern europe:

Zubas played in my city team, Ekranas (5 champion titles in a row for the team, Zubas has been main keeper for last 2 years). This winter he moved to Belchatov GKS, which was the last club in Polish premier league, with 6 points after mid-season, waiting for relegation.
Zubas made so many clean sheets, that the team went back in business - 8 clean sheets in 11 games, 20 points in 11 games. Imagine, how that is with last team of the division.
He was also main U-21 keeper for a few years.

All Lithuania is excited about these rumours about Liverpool scouting him :)

Zaibys

1.) Think a swap deal involving Gulacsi would do the trick.

2.) Zubas is valued ~300k euro (at least that's how much Ekranas asked for him at winter. Polish club could not pay that much, so Ekranas loaned him, so Zubas could play on higher level, as there was nothing left to do for him in Lithuania).
However, he still belongs to Ekranas, and I doubt Ekranas would take Gulasci. I know they have financial issues, so they would rather take the money.

3.) Cheap for a promising young keeper.

At least one positive thing coming out of this game.

From this season, Europa League champions are granted a Champions League spot next year.

And it is way more achievable, than winning CL. And possibly, even coming 4th in ELP.
So, if we can't finish in top4, we need to commit to Europa league.
Even if we finish 4th, we must make sure Tottenham does not win it. ;)

Zaibys

1.) If anything the UEFA competition is harder, unknown teams, terrible refs, and our team will get knocked straight away anyway while we have roy hodgson reincarnated in charge, gone from the fastest playing team to the slowest in the league.

2.) We won't win it with BR tho that's for sure.

3.) Not being funny but the way we are playing I'd give current Europa League teams a better chance of winning it than us:
Inter
Napoli
Sevilla
Wolfsburg
Villarreal
Zenit
plus potentially:
Man City
Roma
Shalke

4.) Theres better teams in europa, than were in your cl group

5.) 10 Dec 2014 10:58:43
realistic view, not going to help us and there are a lot of teams who could beat us that could end up in the europa league.

optimistic view, beating everton in the final to secure 4th would be the best thing to happen since Istanbul

6.) Youse will be in unseeded pot

7.) Robertostheman.
You know what's going to happen and so do I.
Quarter, Semi or the final.
It's bound to happen though.
You know it.
I know it.

It is sad that we lost and that we were toothless, however i did see glimpses of what could become a great game, if we manage to solve some problems.

1. Being clumsy. Lads do their best with pressing, to force oppisition to do mistakes. Opposition makes mistake and ball is ours to take (our player being in better position to claim the ball), then some clumsy move and the ball is back with the opposition + our player is out of position.

2. Vision. 2 episodes in the first half (about the end). First: Manquillo has the ball at the right wing, Borini is undefended and begging for a cross, and that cross did not even need to be very precise. However Manquillo choses to play some tiki backwards or so. Second: Lallana has the ball at the left. Markovic is alone in the middle, 20 yards from goal, nobody even close to defend, and no offside since defenders are all in the left side and closer to the back line. This did not even have to be a cross, a pass could have been enough. But Lallana chose to pass backwards.

And i also think, you may not give stick to Markovic. He was probably the only who could be a treat to opposition, had he some more luck. Any Madrid player is better than any our player, and for the passing game we tried to play, they had both offense and defense outplaying us completely. The only way we could be a menace, was raw speed (forwards vs their defenders, not Bale vs ours. They had that option too, but for us this option was probably the only).
Therefore, as for substitutes, i would have probably brought Sterling for Lallana, and Coutinho for Allen, and kept Markovic on the field. Stevie for Lucas was ok though, for 20 minutes of play.

Zaibys

1.) I thought lallana was excellent, you can't sub him because he chose to pass to someone else.

2.) I think the boys are so hung up on passing and possession hence, an inability to take risks and be brave. This is either due to BR`s tactics or lack of confidence. I`d say both.

Excellent turnaround at the end of today's game. And in this game i was most impressed by. wait for it. GLEN JOHNSON. He was unbeatable in his side, and had some excellent tackles. His side was rock solid.

Also all of the attackers deserve good words. Lambert was good as a target man, obtaining the ball and distributing. Borini was excellent and worked hard on both attack and defense. He also earned 2 yellow cards for opposition. He was on the limit of the fair play, but i guess that's because of trying so hard to prove himself. And Balotelli, well he did his job, what more can we expect in 15 minutes.
Midfielders: Coutinho looked like Messi of the both teams. However, i must admit sometimes his decisions were hardly understandable. Markovic had a couple of nice episodes, but mostly was hard to notice on the field. Its a pitty he missed his chance in the first half. It will be even harder for him now. Lallana was in too short to be noticed i guess. Henderson worked hard in defense, but did not contribute much in attack. Looked a bit tired. Lucas did his job as a DM.
Defense seems to still be an issue. Well Manquillo added a lot to attack, so right defense was a bit weaker, but that is probably expected. However, central defense was a way bigger issue, and this had nothing to do with CD splitting, as the ball was disposessed long time before the goal. The goal happened as Lovren completely lost his man. I can't blame him though, he fixed his mistake by scoring a winner. Toure has issues with his speed. A lot of times central defenders were saved by Johnson or Lucas, when they were outplayed in the centre.
Brad Jones had a good game, i would say. He showed his class when he saved Jonjo's free kick. During the goal he covered his angle and could not do anything else.
Overall, a nice display with (FINALLY) posession on our side. We were better side and deserved to win. There's still much to improve in all areas though.

Zaibys

1.) I was getting frustrated with Johnson continously passing backwards in the first 30 minutes, but he played well overall. I was furious with Lovren's lack of effort for their goal, but he took his goal well and the team defended well for the most part.

2.) I didn't want to say it after the Madrid game, and I didn't watch the game tonight, but I though Johnson has hit a better run of form. Maybe his best in the last 3 seasons. Just my opinion though.

3.) I agree about Johnson
He was solid at left back.
Seemed to be under orders not to venture too far forward and leave us exposed as he is prone to do.
I thought Manquillo showed great energy getting forward and is a good defender in tight situations but does get caught out of position at times.
Overall a good result which breeds confidence.

4.) GJ is much beter at LB because he actually focuses on DEFENDING which he did very well last night. Manquillo had a good game as well and is very smart because he doesn`t dive in and make rash tackles. He is solid and tidy on the ball globally. He does need to improve on his finall ball and on crosses.

@Cobra

Lacazette not making the France euro squad costed them the Euro cup.

Giroud played well but he is still a tree. His replacement Gignac was the same, just more clumsy.

Can someone explain why exactly Fulham are angry at us?

As much as i remember, it was agreed between Fulham and LFC about the Dempsey's transfer, and they were the ones to start talks with Spurs after that, which allowed them to hijack the transfer. Isn't it us who should be angry, and them who should be sorry?

Zaibys

{Ed001's Note - you remember incorrectly, we tapped up Dempsey, who then put in a transfer request to Fulham. We then tried to get him on the cheap, because he had handed in a transfer request after being tapped up by us. It was simply because of the breakdown in relations between Dempsey and the club that he then ended up at Spurs on deadline day.}

Nobody in Real is better than Suarez (except maybe Ronaldo).
And there is no money possible, that could buy us anyone better than Suarez. Especially while we aren't in CL.

Which means Suarez is the most important member in this squad, and we should not even think of selling him.

There're any rumors about some talks going on, or it is just out of nowhere? :)

Someone should buy BR a gift of some football manager game, where players are marked red, when you try to play them out of position.

I'm just wondering, at which point will we start considering the possibility that Sturridge may never actually return. Or he returns for a game, and then gets injured again for couple of months, etc. Or he never returns to the same level.
He is a glass cannon, and it is worrying.

Am I the only one, who actually thinks that we should keep Borini?

1. Last summer every second comment regarding Borini here was like: "whole 12/13 season his injuries set him back, so he did not have proper game time, so loan to Sunderland will benefit him, and then we will have someone who's proven in EPL, and still young and promising."

2. His 12/13 season was indeed unsuccessful, but he indeed was very unlucky with injuries. However, the few games he had, were ok. He was sharp, he created chances, he scored in the end of the season (not much but still, he got the finishing), and a lot of times he hit posts.

3. His loan at Sunderland. He was very important player there, scoring very important goals against very big teams, and the fact that Sunderland are ready to pay 4 millions above his market price, only proves that.

4. He returns after his successful loan, to his main team, where he did not actually had a chance to play an injury-free game to prove his usefulness. And now everyone says - sell him, we do not need him, he's bad. Why? How can you decide? What else did he have to do, for you to accept him? Yes, he did not score 30 for Sunderland, but is maybe that has to do something with other players as well?

5. Even now, Borini looks like a more intelligent player, than Remy, who you all want. I mean take finishing. Borini always trying to hit the corner, to fool the keeper. Remy more often relies on the shot power. Also Remy is less likely to pass. Borini is always more calm and less emotional. Finally, I have seen Borini interviews. Borini gave me impression of a real intelectual, who knows what he's doing, and knows he can progress and improve. I did not see many Remy's interviews, but I know he did have attitude issues. Do we really need that again?

I actually completely disagree with FIFA ban.

Liverpool took means after the last incident, and had Suarez under control. Liverpool had Suarez working with psychologists, and the coach had the right approach, which not only kept Suarez from biting, but his overall attitude in Premier league this season has been positive as much as possible.

Now if Tabarez and his staff do not work with psychology, and make loose cannons out of their players, in order to provoke the opponents and win "that one more game", why does Liverpool have to pay for that?

International ban, would be fair and square. Ban that extends from FIFA range to UEFA/EPL - complete BS.

Zaibys

{Ed001's Note - but we kept him. So how can you disagree? We should have got rid, as this was always a massive risk, in fact it was odds on that he would end up doing something stupid and get a ban for us. I really don't understand all the whining about it.}
