70+ mil for vvd is silly look at lovren he looked as good as at Southampton and now not good enough it's a daft amount for a good defender but he's no maldini is he.

Maldini would struggle in our system. No proper Full backs! No proper GK And no out and out stopper. Moreover playing a very high line you are always in the danger or running backwards to chase a striker.

VVD excels in the areas that cost us big points. He is physically a monster and would beat anyone in air. Excellent on the ball as his passing is top notch. He has terrific pace to chase back!

Do you have a very good defender who would fit into our all out attack philosophy?

2.) 20 Jul 2017 14:13:14
Dont worry about the price. he's a good quality centre back.

3.) 20 Jul 2017 14:19:46
Its crazy money for sure.

This is the stage where Brendan Rodgers lost the plot. He had just been given a new deal and was thought to be untouchable? He spent 100s of millions and players that actually made the team worse.

Klopp has identified these players and rightly or wrongly the club are trying to back the manager even by sanctioning underhand methods of approach.

I'd say the general feeling on here is that rhe targeted players are of a really high quality but ths price is dictated by the Market.

But these are Klopps players and he will be judged a lot more harshly this year as he has had virtually the choice of the best in the world.

4.) 20 Jul 2017 14:16:53
So your saying don't sign VVD because of Lovren, absolute rubbish be they are completely different players.

5.) 20 Jul 2017 14:45:53
Brendan got it wrong coz he had absolutely no
Idea how to use his own players. His choices were absolutely duds! To replace Planet's best striker with Lambert and Balotelli tells you the story!

Why Klopp wouldn't do a Brendan

1. We are chasing Naby Kieta who is the best CM in Europe without a shadow of doubt!

2. We don't need 10 signings compared to what Brendan tried in his second year

3. We have a core team and we are just adding players into the group without disrupting the entire rhythm.

4. The players we are looking would fit in like a nice glue.

5. Our general style of play remains the same compared to what Brendan decided to change it completely.

6. We are not buying Balotelli not Benteke

7. And most importantly Klopp is light years ahead of Brendan!

6.) 20 Jul 2017 15:43:36
I knew who was responsible for that last post soon as I read point one! That's a very bold statement to make, even from you Harry. End of last season you were drooling over PSG's midfield, then Juve's then Monaco's each of them teams had the best midfield at different times according to your crazy flippant opinion! Now Keita is the best midfield player in Europe! There's some very good midfield players out there mind. Have you seen enough of him to make that call?

7.) 20 Jul 2017 17:29:01
Welsh, you forgot Harry's other fav players like Carzola, David Silva and of course, the great Moussa Dembele of Spurs who got man-handled by a certain Gini Wijnaldum last season at Anfield. And no single player, will get us top 3 on his own, Harry. That simply won't happen.

However, I do agree with Harry's perfectly accurate post about his comparison between BR and Klopp. BR is and will never be in JK's league regardless of how many "paper" trophies he wins and "undefeated" seasons he has at the equivalent of Europe's Sunday League.

Just a response to cobra666 all transfers are risks there's no sure thing memory's of veron at Lazio and flopped in England Henry at juventus also bale at Tottenham both careers were falling apart until a manager put trust in them and both turned out class also kaka was a legend at AC broke the world record to go to Madrid and what happened? All risks some work others don't but would much rather take a gamble on talent than waste more money at Southampton (vvd)

1.) 20 Jul 2017 13:03:52
waste money on VVD? if you could create a defender to suit liverpool and sort out their defensive problems i feel VVD is pretty close to the ideal player. Tall, fast, strong, great in the air, great at passing and great in 1v1 situations. I can't think of anyone in the league better at winning aerial duels in which led to so many of our goals conceded last year. Sometimes he can get a bit headstrong and Agger it into midfield getting caught out of position but overall I feel he is a must. Not saying we will get him just that I don't think he will be a waste if we did.

2.) 20 Jul 2017 13:19:29
There is no doubt he is monster in the air. In a 1 vs 1 headed duel I reckon he'd beat anybody else in the league 9 times out of 10 except Carroll, Kompany and McAuley. We definitely did struggle aerially.

My worry is that he is positionally inept, lacks leadership and struggles to mark players. Give him a ball to attack, sure. But give him a man to mark and he is lost. He isn't a bad player, but I think there is better value elsewhere. £70m is just ridiculous. For that I'd expect the most complete defender in the world; Basically a 100% fit Kompany!

3.) 20 Jul 2017 14:04:56
Spot on, MK on our second paragraph. For that alone, he is not worth anywhere near 70m. Firmino spinned and lost him in the 0-0 game last season and had to pull him back and foul him, something the linesman and ref (Clattenberg of course) missed. People want to talk about his upside which there is and dismiss his glaring weaknesses. A defender with that many flaws to his game, is nowhere near 70m.

4.) 20 Jul 2017 14:21:44
I agree and disagree MK, I feel when in a 1v1 with the ball at the opponents feet he is extremely difficult to take on not just aerially. I agree with marking could be better as sometimes i feel he gets caught ball watching a little, but disagree with you saying he lacks leadership as he's always barking out orders to his fellow team mates. I for one could not name any defender we could get better than VVD for the system we play in.

5.) 20 Jul 2017 15:05:48
I don't even think a 100% kompany warrants that price tag maybe a 20 year old boy Maldini may be.

6.) 20 Jul 2017 16:04:57
Let me remind some of you this window is madness regards fees, walker 50mil, we want 30 for sakho a player everybody knows the manager hates. I agree with most that yes he has weaknesses in his game but our team plays to his strengths. When's the last time a team came to actually play us an we lost? Besides we will have lovren in reserve for more physical games if needed who relishes that kind of play.

Personally I wouldn't want any swap deal with Barcelona if we were to get the 100+ mil for Phil then I would invest in a top front man and ask firminho to drop back into his natural position.

Firminho is more like rivaldo were couthino is more like ronaldinho both play off the front man / inside forward just different types people moan about when you play a right sided centre back on the left side how hard it is to adjust think about how hard it is to change into a front man.

Liverpool should go back to the old way of doing business let the media write what they like stop using them to try unsettle players and do things right ie the 1st you hear about it is when they put pen to paper I believe it would go a lot smoother with clubs like Salzburg.

Improve week points in the starting 11 welshboydave you must be the only football manager player on here fella if Phil continues how he has over the last few years has a good world cup then what we offer in the region of 60 odd mil for a good centre back?

I didn't really see why keita was on our radar tbh as a centre mid with who we already have as well as milner as we were in the market for a left back were are stacked there but we do really need someone to partner matip still lovern looked better under klopp than Rodgers but still needs improving as well as between the sticks mingolet had a good return after being dropped but there's half a dozen better keepers in the prem your only as strong as your weakest link.
