75m fee agreed for VVD.

1.) 27 Dec 2017 17:23:44
Ooohh boii. This site going to have a meltdown now. Can see a lot of fighting over this one.

2.) 27 Dec 2017 17:29:22
Don't know if I should be happy or not. Last year he was beast, ine of the best centre backs in the league. This season he is below avarage, hope it was all because of what happend in the summer. But still 75mil looks too much. If tranfer happends let's hope he can prove all the doubters wrong. YNWA.

3.) 27 Dec 2017 17:29:26
We could, and should have bought a bloody good keeper for that.

4.) 27 Dec 2017 17:29:48
No pressure there then,

5.) 27 Dec 2017 17:26:14
So cheating works and FSG went back on their words did they? Or the apology was meant for the previous owners of S'ton not the current one - so it didn't matter now?

{Ed002's Note - I am sorry? You think the apology to Southampton that FSG made in an attempt to avoid further charges of unprofessionalism and tapping up means nothing now? The charge remains on file with the Premier League as I have explained.}

6.) 27 Dec 2017 17:38:01
Ed002 can you clarify the bid being accepted? I've noticed it has come from Twitter so remain skeptical!

{Ed002's Note - No, I cannot confirm anything at this time.}

7.) 27 Dec 2017 17:41:15
Only thing I would say, some doubted Klopp over buying Ox and Salah, look how they turned out. If it is true, I am sure he will be a mega signing and hugely help our defence, but we need a £75m goalkeeper more in my opinion. Our defence has improved this season, our no.1 keeper hasn’t and Karius isn’t world class.

8.) 27 Dec 2017 17:42:22
Thanks anyway, I'm sure all will be revealed in due time! My pessimism makes me think this is the start of a bidding war.

9.) 27 Dec 2017 17:42:49
Ed I think kwkhong was being sarcastic mate.

10.) 27 Dec 2017 17:46:21
I doubt anyone else is going to offer more for a player they know wants to join Liverpool. Yes the fee is high but 15million of that at least is an apology.

11.) 27 Dec 2017 19:43:09
Welcome VVD. I’m going to go out on a limb now and say SoHa sign De Vrij lol.

Any truth in these Lacazette rumours?

{Ed002's Note - Interest in Lyon's Alexander Lacazette from Newcastle and Inter has long gone. Additionally, whilst Guy Hillion has continued to extol his virtues but there is no support whatesoever from the folks in London for a bid at this time - so prior interest of Chelsea has gone. Barcelona, Atletico, Juventus and Spurs had him watched late last season - but Barcelona had another solution in mind for what they want and will not be following up. Juventus took it no further and moved to hold talks about another player and Spurs purchased Janssen but may still want to add a striker in the summer - and Lacazette may become an option again so I would not discount them.

West Ham enquired after Lacazette's availability previously and submitted two bids that were rejected - but wages and the lack of desire from the player to move to a club like WHU means that option has probably gone - plus Lacazette will want Champions League football.

Arsenal decided to asking price was too high in the summer and opted, for reasons beyond me, for Lucas Perez. I don't know if they might return in the coming summer but they will be in the market for a striker and Lacazette might well be a good option for them - much will however depend on who the manager is.

He is not first or second choice for PSG but they could potentially turn to him if they fail to bring anyone else in - I think a less likely option.

I am not aware of Liverpool showing any interest in the player, but (a) if they look to move Sturridge on (which I think they will, (b) if Liverpool qualify for the Champions League, and (c) if Liverpool have the stomach to pay what will likely be €60M for the player, then Lacazette might well be an option.

Lacazette is a player that Mourinho has looked at from his time at Chelsea, but any interest will depend on what happens with Ibrahimovich. Right now they have shown no interest.

Lyon are very difficult to negotiate with and they may well see an Gallic shrug in response to any initial bids. Lacazette wants English money and Champions League or Juventus. Lyon will look for at least €10M more for a sale to an English side as they know what they can expect from elsewhere. Two French players who have played in England have been providing advice to Lacazette that it is not essential to move to England immediately, but I suspect he has other ideas now.}

Thanks for the detailed response!

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

Amy news on the identity of the "mystery player" that Macca alluded to?

1.) 01 Feb 2018 08:23:44
Louis Saha.

2.) 01 Feb 2018 08:28:07
In my opinion it was Griezmann, but doing a deal for him in January was always going to be difficult.

3.) 01 Feb 2018 08:44:19
It was lemar.

4.) 01 Feb 2018 08:46:30
Griezmann was never going to join us. Barcelona want him as their marquee summer signing, Real want him to replace an ageing forward line and both Manc clubs have been interested in him for a while. No way LFC comes into the picture.

5.) 01 Feb 2018 08:47:24
I am less interested in who it was really, I just want to know what position in the team we are looking to fix with this top top player. If it was Griezmann I don't see the point as we have a great forward line already and Id much rather prefer someone like Varane or Rabiot. Eds/ Macca can you at least tell us what position he would play in the team?

6.) 01 Feb 2018 09:02:42
Did Macca not say it was a player who wasn't mentioned?

7.) 01 Feb 2018 09:56:56

8.) 01 Feb 2018 10:23:29
Yes Barry he did but when he posted it AG hadn’t been mentioned, later he reposted saying he was now all over the news ( when the odds came down in him joining us)

9.) 01 Feb 2018 10:28:10
It was Fekir.

10.) 01 Feb 2018 12:54:16
It was me.

29 Jan 2018 21:22:01
Sturridge confirmed WBA loan. Surely we're bringing someone in?

1.) 29 Jan 2018 21:32:59
Yeah. Ings.

2.) 29 Jan 2018 21:43:08
Sturridge hasn’t really played this season.

3.) 29 Jan 2018 21:48:31
Out the FA cup and no league cup so haven't got masses of games. Three strikers already at the team, and plenty of midfielders - not issues with lack of depth.

4.) 29 Jan 2018 22:24:48
yes Firmane, no problem, top four here we come, and maybe into the semi final Champions League .

5.) 30 Jan 2018 00:10:19
Nice one 😂😂😂😂 Happy to be a Red
The Elite are quaking in their boots, from our transfer dealing this Jan.

Best player and once best striker gone but no quality replacements. Some people are so stupid. Counting the books as if it’s their money. Everything has gone up so has transfer fees, so £75M for a quality defender is or will be normal.

Until we spend more than all EPL clubs regularly, we won’t win the league in a billion years.

06 Jan 2018 17:48:56
Surely not.

29 Jan 2017 11:01:49
Instead of chucking names at the ed's I'll just ask, are we actually looking to make any buys in what remains of this transfer window?

First time poster, so go easy on me!

{Ed002's Note - See numerous previous answers.}

1.) 29 Jan 2017 13:45:38
ed002 went easy on you 😁

I thought he played "in the middle"?

{Ed002's Note - He is a right winger who can play on the left wing or as a forward - but he is naturally a right winger.}

We're more likely to end up with his brother, Nosutch Fekir.

Sounds a mess, to leave efforts to sign a player too late, because of other targets we couldn't sign anyway?

I reckon we'll struggle to break them down unless we get a goal early doors.

I think it would leave us short. What if we get a long-term injury up front or Firmino ends up with a ban? Surely we'd need a replacement if Sturridge went?
