Square Tomato, any news on the Gomez staying/ loan rumours?
Appreciated as always mate.

1.) 17 Jun 2017 09:07:47
He's come out and said himself that he is staying as he has been assured he will feature this season.

2.) 17 Jun 2017 10:52:38
nothing's changed as far as I know he's not going on loan and like I said before klopp wants him to push lovren and he's ahead of Klavan, Newcastle want him on loan as do Bournemouth but that would be a bad idea, Huddersfield would be the best option because of someone at the club already, all that being said I can't see him going anywhere I still expect clyne to leave though personally.

3.) 17 Jun 2017 11:23:47
Square. Cheers buddy
Always appreciated.

4.) 17 Jun 2017 11:45:20
Cheers ST. Hope you're right.

5.) 17 Jun 2017 12:34:22
Evidently Gomez pulled out of the England U21 squad to preserve his fitness as this pre season is so important to him.

6.) 17 Jun 2017 12:52:13
So st u wait until the news about gomez has already been released n then choose 2 tell us? 🤔🤔🤔.

{Ed001's Note - he had told us this months ago, why should he repeat himself because most of you only read the crap in tabloids?}

7.) 17 Jun 2017 13:23:09
Good grief Hardy, keep up!

8.) 17 Jun 2017 13:27:59
He said that long ago mate.

9.) 17 Jun 2017 13:52:17
Thanks for the info ST. Hope he gets some game time next season.

10.) 17 Jun 2017 13:58:58
And he only said because he was asked! ST is one of the more respectable honest posters on here and people like you just want to have a dig. Give the guy a break Hardy.

11.) 17 Jun 2017 14:43:08
Thanks for the back up guys lol.

12.) 17 Jun 2017 14:45:21
Must of missed that, my bad! Apologies.

13.) 17 Jun 2017 15:00:50
Don't rest on your Laurels, Hardy 😉.

14.) 17 Jun 2017 15:38:44
That's another fine mess, Hardy.

15.) 17 Jun 2017 16:18:25
I'm often on here arguing that Clyne is a decent player for liverpool. That being said, I would welcome any improvement in the position. I think we need to be careful on who we sign before shipping Clyne out. Say what you like about him at least he has some premier league pedigree. I think there are other priorities.

16.) 17 Jun 2017 19:51:48
Must have missed your last update so many thanks Square.

08 Apr 2015 18:48:24
Ed01, don't suppose you have any info on what Garbutt is likely doing this summer? Don't know if he signed a new deal or not,
Cheers mate.

{Ed001's Note - he has an offer on the table from Everton, he knows there is interest from Liverpool and Spurs, probably others too. I know West Ham were keen on him before they signed Cresswell and Southampton enquired before signing Bertrand, I would think both would take him if they could.

As for what he is likely to do, I have no idea, it is a personal choice he has to make, which is impossible to be sure. You can speak to them one day and they are all hyped about one club, then a week later they have had a better offer and change their mind.}

06 Feb 2014 08:13:58
I very much hope the echo is mistaken.
Liverpool planning to use Borini as a makeweight for A.Johnson?
Please dear lord no.
And wouldn't we expect Borinis transfer fee to be higher than that of Johnson? This is Johnson's first decent run of form since he moved.
Add into the mix than Borini is a lot younger and highly rated in Italy, this seems like terrible journalism.

Ed001 or Ed02 please tell me it's tosh?

{Ed001's Note - not aware of any current Liverpool interest.}

1.) The Echo rumour mill, not the Echo themselves. People keep making this mistake!

25 Mar 2013 15:51:42
Hey Eds, I was wondering if Juventus's interest in Podolski was real? And if this would have any impact on their interest in Suarez?

Thanks! {Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any confirmed interest in Podolski.}

1.) Suarez going nowhere

01 Mar 2013 13:06:43
Question for Ed002 if he's around,
If Bayern or Juventus were to bag Lewandowski, do you think that would affect their intrest in Suarez?
Thanks {Ed002's Note - Neither has an interest in Lewandowski.}

1.) Bayern most certainly do have an interest in Lewandowski. In fact it's his most likely destination. {Ed002's Note - Or not as the case may be. Bayern Munich has a number of "targets" identified with their new manager - he isn't one of them.}

2.) 01 Mar 2013 17:43:48
Ah that's a shame Ed!
Thanks for your help!

3.) Hi Ed002, thanks for the info.

Apart from United - do you know of any interest from elsewhere in Lewandowski? Would you see United as a likely destination or somewhere else?

Thanks,

HBadger {Ed002's Note - Lewandowski was considered in the past year by Liverpool, PSG, Real Madrid, Rubin Kazan, Manchester United, Spartak Moscow (who were concerned about losing Welliton), Juventus (although they now have Llorente), Arsenal and Lille.}

If we were actually willing (and that's a big if) to pay VVD £200,000 a week, it seems wages won't be a stumbling block this summer.
Whether the club wants to pay it or not is another matter, I suppose with the new to deal and potential champions league, income has risen by a fair bit, although it would be presumptuous to buy assuming we'll qualify.

19 Jun 2017 09:17:55
I think Klopps 'won't go back in for Dortmund players' is an agreement that doesn't count when the player is want away.

Dortmund don't want Klopp enticing (and probably tapping up) their players but if they know a player will be moving on, our money is as green as everyone else's.

Having said that, I'll eat my sock if we sign Aubamayang.

1.) 19 Jun 2017 09:49:58
They would be happy to offload him to England and wouldn't give a toss about Klopp or his promises. You are taking about serious money and why wouldn't they consider it for a player who has decided to move on. I don't know who is talking this BS ( Klopp won't sign his ex players ) on this page. The man tapped up two players in two years!

2.) 19 Jun 2017 11:14:03
Rhst clause with Dortmund was probably put in place because they knew only so well of Klopp's sneaky ways.

3.) 19 Jun 2017 15:51:57
Harry, the person talking that "BS" is Klopp himself so you can take up the issue with him. Alos, I don't want Auba here cos he wanted to go to PSG as he was offerred insane wages hence, he is just looking for a big pay day. Now that the deal went to crap, his agents are now sounding off LFC as a likely destination due to the Klopp link. Anyone with a brain can figure that out. We will not ;pay the money nor his insane wages so moral of the story? Not happening and I am more than cool with that.

05 Jun 2017 11:48:12
I think just a winger, a right and left full back and a forward would probably do me.

I love sturridge as a player, but 20 games a season isn't good enough, yes he can produce moments of magic but hopefully, his replacement will be able to do something similar over a whole season.

If Clyne isn't willing to stay as 2nd choice then he can leave, I'm not crazy about him staying either way because even keeping him as back up stunts TAAs growth, however if our new signing gets injured TAA becomes first choice and that could be tough on him, so that's debatable.

I think Milner will probably leave, with our looking for a central midfielder and a left back, doesn't really leave a space for him. He joined us to be first choice, he won't be next season.

I don't think we need widespread changes at all. Mignolets form was much improved, and Klopp might start us with Karius next season anyway.

Having another forward to push Firmino is a must, Origi is good but not at his level. Whenever Sturridge is injured, Firmino is unchallenged.

Hendo, Lallana Can, Wijnaldum, Grujic, Coutinho, and the new addition should see us alright in midfield, if not a bit heavy. Even if Hendo has fitness issues still we should be covered.

I do like the look of Salah, he's got pace and intelligence. Looks like he will fit nicely and it's good to see us targeting a player who looks like he'll fit, fancy than a player who we can mould.

If VVD comes in, I'd expect Klavan to leave, if he doesn't I don't see much hope for Gomez unfortunately. If he doesn't, we are ok at CB in numbers if not quality.

1.) 05 Jun 2017 12:05:29
Left wing/ forward and a left back for me. Crucial we bring in real quality in these two positions.

2.) 05 Jun 2017 12:16:54
I would add a midfielder and CB into the list. Absolutely not convinced about Lovren and klavan. You just can't outscore every teams. I expect both Lucas and Stewart to go and Henderson to miss as many as half of the season, So a top drawer CM is a must.

3.) 05 Jun 2017 14:34:58
Dave, I have a suspicion that we will sign a LB and make Milner our first choice RB, with TAA in the wings. We will sell Clyne, if not this window then in one of the next couple, to give TAA a clear run at taking that first choice spot from Milner.

I'm not ITK at all, just trying to apply logic especially if the Salah and VVD signings are confirmed as I don't think we will have the money to do RB too.

Salah, VVD, first choice LB and a 'compete for first choice' CM (as I fear for Hendo's LT future and would love to believe the Keita rumours) and we're ready for a good tilt next season.

Would be great to get the business done early and crack on with melding together the team in pre-season.

05 Jun 2017 11:17:59
Just had a look on youtube ( yeah I know) and Salah looks like he could be excellent for us.
He seems to be very quick at reacting, with a few of his goals this season coming from reacting quickest to knockdowns and parries.
He's also pretty good with little deft touches so I imagine his link up with Lallana, Coutinho and Firmino would be class.
I can see him and Mane stretching the play very well and causing havoc, especially when Firmino drops deep to create space.
He looks to me to be a better fit than Brandt too, both quality players but Brandt reminds me a little of Lallana, and its goals we are most lacking from the wing, just my opinion of course.
All in all I think he could be excellent, and it would be nice not to see Andy Carrolls name as the most expensive signing,

17 Apr 2017 11:05:28
I've seen a few posts about how a few more wins and we're nailed on for top 4,
Is it just me reading the table wrong, or could we win 4 and draw 1 of our last 5 games and still finish 5th?
I know United have a pig of a run, but I'm not as confident as others, and they are well capable of spinning the wins together,

1.) 17 Apr 2017 11:32:31
There's a lot of work to do between now and the end of the season so for me top 4 is not nailed on. I'm remember a couple of seasons ago, United had a similar run in and ended up winning most of those games and getting into the top 4! I just hope we can keep up this momentum of beating the so called " lesser teams" .

2.) 17 Apr 2017 11:53:54
so as said before we win all our games none of this matters, so in my ignorance im discounting arsenal they are 3 games in hand and if they win them are still 3pts behind us and they are in full tilt at the moment. now city have 1 game in hand if they win go above us by a point and united two games in hand if they win them they draw level, BUT you got to realise the city game in hand is against united and obviously one of uniteds is against city, so therefore no matter what the outcome we gain points on one of them or both with a draw so we have a bit of breathing room, but as i said as long as we win all our games its all irrelevant.

3.) 17 Apr 2017 12:11:07
All we can do is win our games and forget about what others are doing.

4.) 17 Apr 2017 12:10:17
If we win 4 and draw 1, we'll finish on 79 points. Man City and Man U have to play each other, and even if they have otherwise perfect run-ins, the fact that they play each other would mean one of them would have to beat us on goal difference.

For us to then finish 5th, Man U and Man City would have to win all of their games apart from the one against each other and then either:

Man U win that game and finish on 81 points and City on 79, and City's results in run in gives them a better goal difference than us.

That game is drawn, City finish on 80 points and Man U on 79, and Man U's results in the run in gives them better goal difference than us.

And remember, in addition to that, they'd both have to win EVERY other PL game they play.

4 wins and 1 draw will almost certainly see us over the line, but those results aren't a gimmie and we need to be focused.

5.) 17 Apr 2017 12:39:27
We have to play the following:
Palace (h) - Will be a hard game as they've done reasonably well on their travels. Will be a long ball fest so our defenders know what will be coming. Can see us winning.

Watford (a) - I'd fancy us to take all three points here. Watford are safe and are in holiday mode.

Southampton (h) - Probably the trickiest of our remaining games even though they're safe, probably fancy doing the double over us, winnable nonetheless.

West Ham (a) - Barring any mishaps, West Ham should be safe from relegation, given that they've been rotten at home all year against teams above them in the table, we should be able to win this one.

Middlesbrough (h) - I'd fancy us to win this one as their record away from home isn't great and I'd hope they would probably have been relegated by this point so we weren't party to a relegation scrap.

6.) 17 Apr 2017 13:33:40
OP, CL is ours to lose PROVIDED we take it one game at a time and gei it done. Utd's schedule is BRUTAL and frankly, they will NOT win all their games especially vs Spurs at the Lane as the title could still be on for them at that time. The fight is for 3rd in my opinion and if we take care of our business like we've been doing, we'll get there and finish 3rd.

7.) 17 Apr 2017 13:36:11
If United win the Europa, we will need 3rd place anyway right?

8.) 17 Apr 2017 13:46:54
@ Adam - no. We'll only need third if Man U win the Europa AND Leicester win the Champions League.

9.) 17 Apr 2017 18:39:15
If Utd win the EL and we finish 4th, 5 teams will get in PROVIDED LC don't win the CL.

10.) 17 Apr 2017 19:15:47
5 teams would still get in N Red but it would be the top 3 plus LC and ManU. 😉

You can have a maximum of 5 teams. 🤝.

11.) 17 Apr 2017 22:13:12
6 or 7 points confirms CL for next season.

12.) 18 Apr 2017 19:12:52
Ron, you just made my point for me but in a diff way.

Pfft, he should be so lucky.
I can't imagine a player of his calibre saying
" oh look, Liverpool are on the blower, best keep them waiting another 8 weeks ".

I don't know, we've seen how loans are going for most of our players. I'd argue training at Liverpool and playing 25/ 30 games a season is better experience for him. If the coach who's loaned him decides he doesn't rate him 10 games in, he'll have a much worse time of it. Another coach has no investment in his development.

I'd argue the only time a loan is worthwhile is when the player is going to start every week, putting them into someone's squad to rotate with isn't any better than rotating with us.

Have to go against the grain on this.
Regardless of other teams and how often they score, we have still struggled for goals at times.
8 goals in 3 games isn't much good if you stick 7 past an opponent and score 1 in the next two games but as long as the stats say 8 in 3 that's ok?
Why are people acting like buying a striker means we can't sort the defence out too? This is madness, we don't seem to be in a terrible financial state so why on earth can we not look to a striker and some defenders?
I felt there were parts of the season where Firmino wasn't an effective CF. excellent work rate, brilliant skills at times but he doesn't always carry the goal threat he should.

I'd guess Brussels that as Sturridge, Origi and Ings had about 20 goals combined in probably 50 games combined, that at least one of them would become surplus to requirements.
I understand that some positions are more important than others at the moment, however he is a top striker and would significantly improve the side.
As a club we should be more than capable of targeting a LB/ CB at the same time as other players.

Firmino had a few barren spells and we did struggle for goals during periods of the season.
