Hey Ed's! A happy new year to all of you. This is my first post in 2018, and I might be a little late :)

I see there is a strong interest in Maharez. He is a right winger and we are overloaded with both mane and salah who play that position. Mane has moved to the other wing to accommodate salah at rw. This transfer seems a bit odd to me unless he is going to play left side of the mid 3 where coutino operates and maharez is not a natural in that position. Is there interest and if so where is he expected to slot in?

Thanks for your time! Cheers.

vvred

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any Liverpool approach for Mahrez at this time - and as per Gelson Martins he would be a Salah type replacement - not Coutinho. AS such it makes little sense to me.}

Hey Ed01,

Today's game showed us the immediate need to address our CB issue. Any insight, if we have been keeping tabs on any CB's for the winter window.

Thanks as always for the wonderful work.

VVRed

{Ed001's Note - we weren't looking for January, but that might have changed after today.}

1.) 04 Dec 2016 17:06:05
Hi ed001, wouldn't that be re-active? There should be plan to continuously renew the squad. Or klopp thinks current CB are good enuf to win league.

{Ed001's Note - of course it is reactive, you always have to react to the changing situation. We always have the scouts looking for possible players to improve the team, we only move for them when they are seen to be an improvement. Alongside Matip, the other defenders look fine, it is only now that Klopp has had a chance to see them under pressure in a real game.}

2.) 04 Dec 2016 17:27:20
Van Dijk, a target? Or is it just a rumour?

{Ed001's Note - rumour.}

Hey Ed01,

Hope you are doing great mate. Will quickly get to what I wanted to ask you.

1. Isn't klopp carrying the baggage from utd game for far too long now? Shouldnt we just move on to the next game than disect that in pressers?

2. That stat where opts says Liverpool played more long balls than united this season. I am kinda finding it difficult to place when exactly did that happen. I have seen most of our games this season and I don't seem to agree with that stat. Are clearances hoofed by our defence botching thay stat?

Thanks as always! Good day!

VVRed

{Ed001's Note - 1. No, he is just making certain the players pick up their performance in the next match.

2. No idea, OPTA stats are not a useful tool in that kind of context. It is a pointless thing to even look at. It is arbitrary decisions on what is a long ball and what is not. Though you seem to have forgotten slid balls through to a forward that he races onto, cross field passes etc can all be long balls.}

1.) 18 Jan 2017 17:09:56
I think you need to check again United have played 510 long balls . Liverpool only played 478.

2.) 18 Jan 2017 17:15:05
I just read a sky sports article on long balls that places us 15th and unt 12th, what can we gather from that? It's all bo****ks and you can manipulate stats however you want

3.) 18 Jan 2017 17:48:28
ball went back to migs a fair few times and he launched it up the pitch, also counts as a long ball

4.) 18 Jan 2017 17:50:09
Opta long balls are anything over 35 yards and into space. not directly played to a team mate based on the details I have read.

Bit of a pointless discussion really if your comparing utds use of the long ball compared to Liverpool

Why?

Utd use it only when Carrick is either not playing or is covering as centre back during play as they have no other sensible option to do with the ball due to lack of talent and creativity in midfield.

Liverpool use it for fast counter attacking, for example firmino is the furthest man up front and central with lallana maybe 15-20 yards back further but in a wide position. As we deal with whatever defensive pressure we are under lallana will pick up the ball out wide taken from a pass of maybe 20-30ish yards run maybe 5 strides the hit a diagonal ball for firmino and then BANG! Ball in the net.
That's the real difference in my opinion.

Don't count them, compare how the long ball is used and it's effectiveness, between the 2 and you will see an ocean of a difference then and only then.

{Ed025's Note - that sounds to me like its ok for liverpool to do it as its tactical, but if utd use it its hoofball, now why doesn,t that surprise me?..

8.) 18 Jan 2017 18:46:30
Ed025

It's the truth mate. little partisan and rose-tinted about it. But you already know that now, don't you? Lol

{Ed025's Note - i can hardly deny it suko, some of the posters do make me smile.. deluded or what?.. :)

9.) 18 Jan 2017 19:50:54
Ah ed025

Stop being a hater

😂😂

{Ed025's Note - im not a hater savvy..just a realist mate..

10.) 18 Jan 2017 20:08:35
Ed did you not see the difference in let's use the utd game for example.

Utd in the second half kicked the ball from maybe around 10 yards outside their box to the edge of our box and hoping either Martial or ibrahahimovic could get a knock down and hope somebody was running onto that.

Compared to our defence working it out to midfield or the wings quickly and 2-3 passes later we have yet another shot on target, there's a real difference between the 2 and I am a realist as well by the way.

Have always called it as I've seen it and just to butter you up a little I was never Henderson biggest fan either since he joined but he does have his moments now and again.

😉😉😉

{Ed025's Note - its just differen means to an end savvy, none of them is wrong or right mate just different ways to create a chance mate..

11.) 18 Jan 2017 20:15:08
Agreed but one is a lot more exciting to watch than the other which I think was the original OP point at the top of this thread.

{Ed025's Note - in your opinion i would say savvy, i actually along with many others would prefer it to tikka takka which is incredibly boring..but i suppose it takes all sorts mate..

12.) 18 Jan 2017 21:02:44
Theres a difference between puttinf fellani up top and hoofing it up to him and your cb switxhing the ball to your lw like lovren does whichever side he plays a lot of the time.

Hey Ed01,

These rumours to loan odegaard must be baseless right? Also, a while before I had heard ed002 mention some promising youngsters in world football and ojo was one among them. Just curious if Patrick Roberts was part of that list. Also, wanted to know your thoughts on the player if he is currently ahead of ojo in development. If this is not for the Liverpool pages, please feel free to take it down.

VVRed

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea if Roberts was on the list. Odegaard is paid far too much for us to consider signing an immature little brat with interest only in getting money.}

1.) 08 Aug 2016 17:01:21
Ake, Ojo and Meyer were the 3 who are still showing promise. There was also a South American striker who I can't name, but seem to recall he went off the boil!

2.) 08 Aug 2016 17:56:49
How often are those reports that accurate, most kids hyped up that much at that age struggle to stay grounded.

3.) 08 Aug 2016 18:00:25
Anyone know how to pronounce his name? I heard a Norwegian guy is it's "Oh-De-Wuhr" or something similar.

4.) 08 Aug 2016 18:10:18
I think the name of that Brazilian striker was Gabriel Barbosa.

5.) 08 Aug 2016 20:39:14
Ødegaard pronunciation is kinda like. Imagine the U in "fur", there's your Ø (it's just like the German Ö) . Ö-deh-gawrd. Or maybe Ö-deh-goord (double O as in floor) . English and Norwegian sound a bit different, so it's impossible to accurately map the sounds between the languages.

6.) 08 Aug 2016 21:03:26
Ed002 specifically mentioned Ojo as one of the biggest young talents in Europe. That's good enough for me as Ed doesn't go over the top on things.

{Ed002's Note - He was one of four players named in 2013 as great prospective talents.}

7.) 08 Aug 2016 20:51:40
Hsf it is almost right, Oh-de-guard. But its an "Ø" and not an "O" in the first letter pronounced like the sound "u" in the word "run" and "sun" and a double "A" is an "Å" that is pronounced like the word "awe" with no pressure on the e. So for a norwegian it is pronounced something like: Oed-de-gawrd. It that makes any sense?

8.) 08 Aug 2016 21:18:56
Svinepelz explains it better!

Hi Ed001,

Could you please give me some info on how suso got along at Liverpool. He was one of my favourite youngsters at the academy. Read that he had some attitude problems which led BR to sell him off to Milan. Would be great to hear your thoughts on the player.

You guys do a fabulous job.

VVRed

{Ed001's Note - he did have some issues, after being promised chances, then having those promises broken, he started being a bit of an issue. If he had kept his head down and worked harder, then he would have gone on to make it elsewhere, but he didn't. Shame, the lad had so much talent and a great work ethic on the pitch.}

1.) 17 Jul 2016 06:48:42
Thanks for the response Ed001. He was better than most in the team at dribbling with the ball and had a wicked shot on him. Hope he does well at Milan.

2.) 17 Jul 2016 09:00:05
He was wearing #8 on his milan shirt in the last friendly. May be they will keep him around the first team and not send him on loan.

has he really moved us forward overall? His style of play along with using the players in the best positions unlike BR who played everyone out of position was always going to make us look better than what BR put out. Ask yourself this, has he done anything to improve the poor defence he inherited from BR. He took out Sakho and made it even more appalling if i may add. So what is the excuse here when things seems to have gone further south in 18 months?

Now coming to this season. We all knew our major attackers were out for the season. With the kindest of run ins and plenty of time to train between weeks, why have we not trained hard to keep shut outs. We simply do not have enough quality to see off teams by blowing them in attack. We need to take the quality our brazilians produce in this difficult period and shut out games and grind out wins. Yet we are still awful at defending and nothing has changed.

I agree with you when you say give klopp credit for the changes made in positions and style of play, but he must take complete responsibility for failing to do anything about our defense.

To conclude if klopp was responsible for the glorious position we found ourselves in at the end of 2016 he is even more responsible for letting us slip so far away from a strong finish.

It is not a question of not supporting him. Personally, I am a big fan and I think he is one of the best strikers in the league but I have gotten used to the fact that he won't be playing regularly through a season and stated that albeit going on a hyperbole. I get your point Ed. I am sorry if it sounded offensive and non supportive. Cheers!

It always starts as a slight hip niggle. Expect him to be back for the last 8 league games.

VVRed

{Ed002's Note - Typically - no support of the player from some of the fans. You are an absolute laughing stock.}
