Absolutely gutted about tonight. Have to say though that I feel most for Karius, though so soon after the result this will probably be an unpopular opinion. He will, like many of us, have dreamed of lifting the trophy as a kid, and will know more than anyone else that he has almost singlehandedly lost us the game. Football is always important but something like his mental health is much more so. I didn’t see any Liverpool players consoling him which was disappointing, the Real Madrid players were the first to go over to him. Look, maybe he has played his last game for us, but I personally hope that he stays and proves everyone wrong.

Gutted to say the least but although Karius was much improved b4 2nite he has proved
He is not capable of being a keeper for Liverpool. It’s
To get ruthless. I’ll be shocked if I see him in goal again. Just wasn’t our nite despite excellent performances fro
Mane and Robbo. Poor Mo! Ramos is a pro at that rubbish but will skip into World Cup unpunished whilst mo watches
.

Let’s sign some class and go again! ’n.

I don't recall seeing a game settled on such dreadful errors before. The LFC hierarchy need to invest in the GK position heavily and I don't mean in Butland as is rumoured.

3.) 27 May 2018 00:43:52
Please not butland he's a very poor option.

4.) 27 May 2018 00:53:04
Cant get on board with people hanging him out to dry, he's been good since he came in

What he needs right now is the team and the fans to get behind him, a loss like this is a good experience for the squad and if we handle it correctly i fully expect us to be challenging again next season.

5.) 27 May 2018 01:53:43
sorry Brown_Jesus, he'll struggle to get past his own performance tonight and we don't have time to wait for him to recovee from it.

6.) 27 May 2018 02:33:36
its a completely myth that he has been good sine january. its our defence that has been good. he always looks dodgy. always late off his line and seems to have hands made of butter. tonight has been coming for a long time.

Ron, I saw your post about Karius down the page, and while I don’t think he was brilliant, I think “Hides under pressure” is a bit unfair, certainly not after this game. Yes he struggled a bit under the high ball, but he also made a couple of important stops against rushing out against Rondon. For the first goal, he makes a good stop but needs help from the defenders for the rebound. For the second, yes he is stuck in no-mans land, but if he stays on his line, the header will beat him anyway. The fault there lies with the defenders for allowing a free header, and the quality of the ball in the first place. It has to be said as well, that almost any keeper in the prem would struggle with the physicality of West Brom today, they played some great balls into the box. For sure there’s a lot he can improve on, but I don’t think Karius was particularly poor today.

I repeat - I’m not just talking about the goals.
He was all over the place today when the high balls came in. He didn’t look like he wanted to claim the ball like a world class keeper would.
I don’t dislike the lad and he’s had a good 2018, but he has an obvious weakness that isn’t going away.

2.) 22 Apr 2018 00:16:02
Shropshire Red, Any cross into the box he doesn’t know whether to come or stay. Usually he is in no mans land but if he comes he flaps at it.

If you can’t deal with teams like West Brom in the Premiership you are not the answer.

3.) 22 Apr 2018 00:27:59
redmersey yet he dealt with City didn't he? and others.

I agree with you Ron he does have weaknesses but I do think he'll improve in time, he's only had half a season I think we should judge him when it comes to this time next season, I genuinely believe he will shock many, in a good way. But again, I do understand what your saying Ron and I'm not saying your wrong mate, I just think he needs a little more time to adapt properly. He basically got thrown into the deep end suddenly and in a league like this that's not easy, he's playing at the top level now and overall he's done very well.

4.) 22 Apr 2018 01:49:17
1 - he isn't world class yet. so obviously isn't going to display what you want to see. yet.

2 - thought he showed a good attitude to come out for the ball and claimed more than he didn't. 2nd goal not sure what he was upto, but as has been the case with many goals we've conceded particularly earlier in the season, there are a litany of errors that compile altogether at the same time.

5.) 22 Apr 2018 04:28:51
Every GK has certain weaknesses, even DDG. Ederson and DDG are known to struggle against high balls as well. U can't keep nitpicking. There is not a perfect GK in the world right now.

6.) 22 Apr 2018 05:59:31
Hides is a ridiculously unfair statement about Karius, he was decisive in coming off his line to good effect a couple of times and did try to come for ball, there isn't much you can do if your centre backs hang you out to dry.

7.) 22 Apr 2018 08:52:41
Ron, I disagree. "Hiding under pressure". You mean like he did vs Spours where his pen save kept us in the game? You mean like the games where his saves kept us in the lead or the clean sheet until we opened scoring? Or in the same WB game where he saved the defenders bacon 3 times when he came out to stop Rondon from scoring? Give it up, man. He got no help from the ref or defenders with WB players holding on to him and shoving him before the crosses came. Like I said, give it up. Karius has been great since he came in and one game where he was "shaky" changes NOTHING. I remember, said months back that he was cock sure that Karius would not make it at LFC and he has proved you wrong since he came in as permanent no. 1 so trying to slate him due to one game where he was shaky (like the whole defence in front of him) sounds "interesting".

8.) 22 Apr 2018 10:37:21
Agreed salah. I think Karius is going to have a big future. He was clearly fouled by livermore at least once.

Even the very best keepers make mistakes and although he has struggled with high balls at times he has also pulled out some world class saves in recent months.

Having a bit of a stutter in the premiership atm, 1 win in 3. I still think we will finish 3rd, 4th at worst. I really hope we knock roma out of the tie at anfield so we can field some stronger teams in the prem. At the end of the day, it may mot matter if we do finish 5th, might qualify as winners.

9.) 22 Apr 2018 14:06:06
BR I’m talking about relentless high balls like against WBA. I’m not talking about anything else, but under relentless high balls he doesn’t command his area, he backs away from ariel challenges.

10.) 22 Apr 2018 20:40:44
That may be the case, yesterday, Ron BUT you are not looking at the context here. Karius has been great dealing with crosses up until yesterday and there are reasons why. Again, Livermore was allowed to stand on top of him pushing and shoving him all game and the ref just stood there and let it happen. It also did not help that Moreno was so diabolical that he let Matt Phillips run by him EVERY time and whipped in good balls in relentlessly. That rarely happened with Robbo in cos well, Robbo actually gave a damn unlike Moreno who could not be arsed all game. Or with the way Klavan (who played poorly cos he had to carry the ghapless Moreno) was unsure and Karius had to come out 3 times to smother Rondon, that alone will make a GK unsure in his decision-making. These things matter. You have to look at things overall and not nitpicking cos if you do, you will miss the context and other reasons, some of which I just mentioned. I maintain that Karius has been stellar since he came in as permanent no. 1 and nitpicking over one game will NOT change that, IMO. A dead clock being right twice a day for a minute, is STILL a dead clock.

{Ed025's Note - i know your a big karius fan brover but he was poor yesterday on both goals, he has done very well since he took over from migs so im not going to slate him as all players can have a stinker, but he does have to be stronger when a player like livermore can bully him in his 6 yard box or every team will be doing it mate..

Almost every Arsenal game on their unbeaten streak has been a highly contested game that they could have easily lost or drawn. Yes we’ve had a couple of games where decisions have gone our way but the Arsenal game was an example of luck evening out. It’s fine to critique the team, but to suggest we don’t deserve to be where we are is simply untrue. Our performances haven’t been great all the time, but neither has any other team bar city. Reading some comments you’d think Arsenal and Chelsea were 10 points ahead of us.

I actually downvoted Phil, just because I feel the article itself is premature, not to mention the debate as to whether he could be a dud. I also would not read anything into the Palace, Brighton games really- they were combative performances where none of our midfield could really shine. Against palace, Keita had some class moments- nobody would critique his performance if Salah had converted that chance he set up.
Regardless, the article was really well written, I think it’s great for the site that more and more posters are writing these.
