To quote Simon Yeend in today's Express. "Liverpool have lined up a move for Victor Valdes the former Barcelona goalkeeper!" He then goes on to write. "To leave Simon Mignolet FIGHTING FOR HIS ANFIELD FUTURE!" Is this person for real? Valdes will be 33 at the start of 2015 and is currently out of action with a cruciate knee ligament injury. So we will sign an unfit keeper and ditch Mignolet to leave our options Brad [ Fumblefingers ] Jones and Valdes? I hear more sense on this website than from the Express so PLEASE tell me we aren't looking at an injured "experienced" and over the hill keeper who is a free agent now!

{Ed002's Note - You are completely correct Plank. A deal for Romero seemed to be in hand a couple of days ago and could well be announced later today or tomorrow. It makes little sense to me, but there you go.}

1.) According to Tony Barrett at The Times - Rodgers is willing to wait for Valdes to prove his fitness (November).

Presumably we would then hang on to Ward until then before a much needed loan into the Football League. (Giving us the same 3 GK as last year)

But it seems like a gamble and I'd rather sign Romero now.

2.) Please let this rumour be nothing but nonsense. It would perhaps be the worst move I can remember!

3.) Yeah I don't see what the difference would be between keeping Reina and signing Valdes, would seem to present much the same issues as we had with Reina

4.) Victor Valdes is a top top keeper, you don't be No1 keeper for Barca for the past 8 years. He is 33, but keepers are a their prime around this age. Yes he has an injury, but so did Falcao and others. He will be back fit, his kicking and passing is better than Migs, his awareness on crosses is better, he doesn't flap as much as Migs or Reina.

He will provide competition and will be much more confident in the Champions league matches, which Migs has no eperience of. In Brendan we trust!

5.) Valdez is nowhere near a top keeper, he's got no presence, doesn't command his area, has awful handling and gets beaten too easily. Hope we avoid like the plague. As for being Barca's keeper for so long, look at it like this, that Barca team were so good that Taibi could have played for them and looked good, Valdez got found out as Barca hit the decline.

How does the sell on clause we have on Tom Ince effect or complicate our attempt to sign him. Not that I'm holding my breath for us to succeed getting him nor am I wildly excited at the thought of him re-joining us.

With Louis Suarez signing a new long term contract can I say sorry to all the "I saw Suarez flying out of John Lennon airport heading for Spain" merchants but wish all other Reds a very Merry Xmas. Thank God I won't have to read all the "He's off to Real/Barca/Chelsea/Man City posts once the window opens.

The Plank

1.) Naive. People will still post that stuff.

ssn reporting Chelski now the likely home for Willian. Any eds know anything about this? Funny everyone moaning we'd been hijacked and now it might have happened to Spurs. {Ed002's Note - RTFP.}

The Plank

1.) So much for Spurs getting one over us. This just shows that you can`t count your chickens b4 they`re hatched. There`s a reason lfc walked away from this deal and now you can see why. He and his agent are quite pathetic.

Daily Express has reported that Liverpool are paying £2 million of Pepe Reina's wages to "help finance his loan move to Napoli"! Can somebody please explain to me how this has turned out to be a good deal for the Reds? We lose last season's first choice keeper and still we are paying for him!

The Plank

No idea mate. I haven't heard much.
But he was pretty good against arsenal. saved a penalty too.

2.) It is pretty simple. If we suppose Reina earns 6m a year, Liverpool of course would have to pay him that just to sit on the bench. Apparently no other clubs came in for him, so Napoli took him and they will pay 4m of his wages.
Liverpool, although still paying 2m, save 4m they can spend on other players, that will actually play.

From an economical POV it does make sense.

3.) I do believe Liverpool will receive a loan fee from Napoli as well for Reina's services.

4.) Mushroom, I doubt it seeing as this is why they pulled out of the Caesar deal. I'd be surprised if we're paying one third of his wages still though, could the papers be spinning the fact that the loan will likely expire the end of May and we will revert to paying his full salary then again?

5.) In general Sean, there is usually a loan fee involved between clubs. Unless it is a youngster on loan for development, then it is usually about how much game time they receive.

6.) Ya I get that obviously but we're talking about Reina's loan here to Napoli not general loans. Reina was only seen as an option because Qpr asked for a loan fee. That would indicate to me that there is no chance of a loan fee here and it wouldn't make sense to get a loan fee and then us pay some of the wages.

£6m is his annual salary anyway so I'd say they are just lumping everything from May onwards into this £2m we are paying. I.e. They are making out we are paying 33% of his salary while his is at Napoli, if we are paying any I would say no more than 20%

Rick Parry reckons Louis Suarez and any other Liverpool player who wants to should be allowed to leave the club. In view of Parry's performance and reputation with the fans is there anyone out there who agrees with the creep?

Total drivel! We're down to the bare bones with fullbacks and Flanagan can play left or right side equally well. Whoever came up with that rumour is either a Bitter or using mind expanding chemical substances.

I keep reading about a Liverpool/M'Villa link and leaving aside his abilities as player he clearly comes with so much baggage both on and off the pitch he's a member of the who needs him club.

You say United but I'll have to disagree with you on that rumour.

I think you're right mate! I doubt the M'villa rumours too.

I've seen Kono play exactly once for Ukraine against England and he gave Kyle Walker fits. He looked very fast and direct but it's hard to judge on the basis of 1 game.
