The biggest sign we need would be on Tuesday.

If Coutinho plays against Hoffeinham, then he would be cup tied to play for Barcelona in UCL. That would reduce the hopes of Barcelona signing.

If NK doesn't arrive, there is no way Liverpool would let Coutinho leave. I hope NK's arrival wouldn't soften their stance on Cout

I just hope he stays and 'he would be our signing of the summer'

Tegar

{Ed002's Note - No he wouldn't.}

1.) 09 Aug 2017 23:16:46
the "cup-tied" rules that people are thinking about don't apply during the qualifying phases. under the rules he could play for us and then he could play for Barcelona in the group stages.

2.) 10 Aug 2017 11:20:25
Not cup tied from a qualifier.

No team in the top six needed strengthening in defense than LFC.

ManU, ManC, Chelsea, have gone to strengthen their defense.

I don't mind Liverpool loosing VVD but loosing him to Chelsea which already has a solid defense unit is abysmal.

Nevertheless I can't wait for the season to start .

LFC. Will play the most entertaining football again.

Tegar

1.) 05 Aug 2017 14:18:23
Totally agree on the defence. We won't win anything with a defence that lacks leaders and can't play as a solid unit.

Big mistake by Klopp not to get a quality centre half in this window.

Top 4 is going to be tough this season. Doesn't matter how many we score, we can't rely on having to score 4 because we concede 3!

2.) 05 Aug 2017 14:18:38
I believe we'll get him Tegar, everything is pointing towards it and I refuse to believe the club are just sitting back and waiting for next season, fully content with our squad.

3.) 05 Aug 2017 14:23:22
How haven't we strengthened in defence? We've replaced Clyne with Alexander-Arnold, replaced Milner with Robertson, and Gomez is back from a long term injury. Additionally, Matip played half of last season recovering from an ankle operation, then missed a month due to the AFCON dispute, and is now settled into English football. When Matip and Lovren were both fit our defence was actually decent. Besides it was exaggerated how bad we were defensively anyway. I'm fairly sure we had the 5th best defence in the league, despite having Lucas and Milner (two midfielders) playing there regularly.

I agree with you that we could do with a top centre back, but to say we've not got a stronger defence than we had last season is a flat out lie.

4.) 05 Aug 2017 14:42:39
MK Scouser, you say we had the 5th best defense in the league. So where did that get us in spite of having a free scoring team?
Yes, barely scraped 4th and that too without European Football to contend with. Like it or not, LFC's defense is not going to win us any major titles and we need to strengthen. Robertson is a half decent LB while Gomez will take a while to build his confidence after two serious injuries. And Matip is not great as everyone makes him out to be so we do need a leader at the back and if Klopp believes VVD is that guy then FSG need to back him.

5.) 05 Aug 2017 14:57:36
Buzzer I agree with you completely so I'm not sure what your point is mate.

I was merely pointing out the dramatization of the original post. We have strengthened our defence. We have two better full backs and a highly talented young centre back. In an ideal world, I'd like to replace Lovren in the starting XI with a dominant centre back with good organisational skills. But if that doesn't happen I won't go into meltdown. Matip is a good ball playing centre back, but he needs a stronger partner than Lovren. Kind of like how Agger looked great next to Carragher, but got exposed next to Skrtel. Matip needs a Carragher type alongside him.

6.) 05 Aug 2017 15:02:05
Far too much panicking going on.

Not a ball kicked in anger this season and already people are saying we won't win anything.

Talk about doubters 🙄.

7.) 05 Aug 2017 15:11:17
Ron, whilst I admire your "always be positive" attitude, people right now are simply being realistic about the club's prospects next season. The trend over past years has not been kind to LFC after bouts of optimism and toning down expectations before the season starts is expected by most LFC fans who honestly do not take a below par season very well (the Eds can attest to that) .

8.) 05 Aug 2017 15:34:30
Anyone that thinks we can fight on all fronts for trophies plus achieve top four status again - with Lovren and Klavan, for me, need their heads seeing to.

And there will come a time when Matip ( or Gomez) gets injured.

9.) 05 Aug 2017 16:03:49
Tegar

Does Robertson, whatever his merits, not address the left back situation? Moreover, is the transfer window closed already?

Why not wait for LFC to do 'nothing', window to close and THEN have your whinge? You be free to bleat and bitch on then on the basis of something.

Until then, posts like these be nothing more than girly moaning drivel that litters these pages.

Can you just sit down and let the club get on with its business, which it still has until 31AUGUST, to complete. NOT 5 AUGUST, BUT 31ST AUGUST.

And before someone rushes to tell me your entitled to your opinion, sure you are, but that's not the point. The point is that your opinion is baseless and premature and embarrassing for so-called most educated fans in the world.

Just chill ok.

10.) 05 Aug 2017 16:44:21
Free scoring team? How many of the lesser sides did we fail to break down.

11.) 05 Aug 2017 18:23:43
Do you really think that buying better defenders will win us the league or mske us the best defence in the league?
Our system is the main reason for our defensive issues. We will batter teams again next year but those silly results will happen again.
Who thinks signing VVD will solve our problems? Not for me. The only way a single player will improve us defensively is if we signed a DeGea, otherwise it'll be the same problems just with a bugger wage bill!
For our system to make us champions needs us to have significantly better players than our opponets which isn't the case.

12.) 05 Aug 2017 18:34:22
Sirshanks.

Did you not see how many goals we conceded from set pieces last season?

The amount of times, opposition forwards easily got goal side of Klavan, Lovren and Lucas when drafted in?

If you get the chance, take a look back, see how our championship winning sides of the 70's and 80's lined up in defence.

13.) 06 Aug 2017 02:03:18
Nick, read my post again. We never played thus system in the 70s or 80s so the comparison is irrelevant.

Now can we all agree that Klopp is not just decent but WORLD CLASS?

Tegar

{Ed025's Note - for winning a friendly?...yeah ok..

1.) 02 Aug 2017 08:28:03
Hey, calm down with the victory parade already. Let's take it one win at a time.

2.) 02 Aug 2017 08:30:52
Last year we beat Barcelona by 4.

3.) 02 Aug 2017 08:59:58
Chill out Tegar, it was a friendly. Doesn't mean a thing, Watford is our next big game!

4.) 02 Aug 2017 09:59:19
Not just the friendly mates,
Liverpool has become almost unbeatable by the big
Teams.
The coach should be given some credit.

5.) 02 Aug 2017 10:57:37
The big teams attack us tegar which plays right into our hands as we thrive on space to counter attack.

I completely agree with u Carlos,
I tip Chelsea and Man City to go all the way

Man City has the strongest squad in the league at the moment, their biggest problem was their defense last
Season and how they wasted time and possession in the final thirds of the pitch. They have addressed that and are still in the process of addressing it. They will challenge for the title

Chelsea was near perfect last season. They are ruthless against the smaller teams
Their biggest problem would be the squad depth especially now that they plan to sell Matic and are in the champions league . they will challenge for the tittle

ManU . Their attack was weak last season but it was almost impossible to outscore them. They have gone further to strengthen. Their biggest challenge was 'no definite game plan'. Top4 is very possible

Liverpool. LfC biggest challenge was squad depth and concentration. The club was doing perfectly till Jan when it lost its key players. They have made some key additions but selling their most creative force, Coutinho would be their biggest undoing.
I don't see them challenging for the crown like this, more signings required. Top4 still very possible

Arsenal. No opinion

Tottenham . Finished the season on extreme high. Not surprised by their silence in the market . Top4 possible.

Man City
Chelsea
Man Utd
Liverpool/ Spurs

My predictions for next season.
City's defense is still suspect but a fit Kompany, better and fitter fullbacks and a superb depth and quality in attacking ranks will make them heavy favorites for the title.
Chelsea lose Costa and I don't believe Morata has what it takes to replace him adequately. Rudiger for Cahill is not exactly mind blowing either but Bakoyoko-Kante midfield will be key to a title challenge. And of course there's Hazard who can win games on his own.
Man Utd have bought well as per Jose's requirements. Lindelof looks good and Lukaku knows where the back of the net is (their main issue last season) . Matic is an experienced head who will give the likes of Pogba more freedom to burst forward and Perisic is a typical Jose style winger who should do well imo.
Spurs have stood still which will be a mistake imo especially with the shift to Wembley. They lack squad depth (defense aside) and injuries to Alli or Kane will prove costly. But they have a brilliant manager who will have learnt from his past mistakes and be able to balance between the league and UCL games.

LFC have added Salah who gives pace and width up front and Robertson is a natural LB who gives better balance when attacking out wide. That aside, our piss poor defense will continue to hinder us and Sturridge's fitness will be key considering Origi and Solanke are not ready to lead the line. And there is no guarantee Coutinho stays and any potential replacement will be a downgrade imo. Getting VVD over the line will determine how our season shapes up as Klopp clearly believes he will improve our defense considerably.

His manager has confirmed that the player has been asked to train alone because he wants to leave and doesn't want to take part in the teams preseason.
But Southampton still maintains that he is not for sale.

From the look of things:

The plan was to get Kieta and play him in the same system
As Coutinho. Then Coutinho would be allowed to leave,
If he wants to, next summer.

Liverpool WON'T Sell him this summer. Especially with how savage and crazy the market is.

We have about five strikers already.
I just wish we could move for Aubameyang . We would have an explosive attack. Probably second to only Barcelona.

And mayb we should allow Sturidge and Origi leave. #fantasy.

Tegar

{Ed025's Note - if you got aubameyang tegar...who would be the other 2 who could elevate your attack to that of barcelona??..

Personally, I think our weakest player last season was Origi followed by Clyne.
Our midfield was decent and we have a lot of good players there.
Though Kieta would be a great signing but CM is not a pressing need.

Juan Mata maybe .
Everybody has forgotten what the lad can do . Goals and assists .
Mourinho doesn't rate him highly.

Klopp needed Kieta so that LFC will play with two CM
Of probably hendo/ Kieta while Couts is allowed to roam freely behind the forward 3.

Since Kieta's deal is all but done, Lfc will stick to to our
Three man midfield.

Except Can/ Couts leave, LFC won't move for any CM.

to replace Coutinho, I would prioritize a Quick creative playmaker that can dribble in tight spaces.

Fabregas (though not the fastest of players, his creativity can be second to none. he should be relatively cheap and available since Conte doesn't rate him that much)

Isco (in terms of like for like technical abilities, he is the closest to Coutinho but Mardrid won't sell this summer)

ASENSIO (brilliant playmaker, with bags of potential, would be impossible to sign this summer)
Pjanic
Thomas Lemar
Coric.
