Good afternoon to you Eds, I hope you're all feeling good.

A quick and probably fruitless question: are there any circumstances at all whereby Kolo Toure receives a new contract from the club? Due to Sakho's lack of form and Skrtel and Lovren's bizarrely lengthy injury lay-offs, he's been our best defender this season.

Is there room for him still, maybe as a backroom candidate? It'll just be sad to see such a popular, charismatic warrior ride off into the sunset.

Cheers,
TSP.

TSP

{Ed002's Note - No, even with the manager is scraping the bottom of the barrel to bring in Caulker on loan until the summer Liverpool have already added Ilori and Matip and remain overrun at centre back as they are everywhere else. And there is Wisdom to return.

I have no idea why a player who came toward the end of his career to provide cover with no coaching experience would be a "backroom candidate" let alone "charismatic warrior". If Liverpool want to do well they need to get people in who can do the right job not just a rest home for retired player.}

1.) 02 Mar 2016 13:06:36
Cheers Ed. Not much cash on the way in. Wage bill will go down. Will be very interesting to see how Klopp does in the summer. A perfect summer would be three or four new faces that most people have never heard of who turn out to be superb. A healthy return from injury for Gomez and Ings. And more progress from the likes of Can and Origi who are both still kids but could have big futures ahead of them. Have a good one.

{Ed002's Note - I did not say anything of the sort about money.}

2.) 02 Mar 2016 15:35:27
Joker, with Ings and Gomez coming back from injury. Grujic and Matip already coming in for the summer and some loaned players expected to stay. Markovic and maybe a youngster or two.
May I ask what positions you think should be replaced with incoming players?

3.) 02 Mar 2016 15:50:34
Goalkeeper.

4.) 02 Mar 2016 18:02:46
Totally agree Ron. Where else would you like to see improvements bud?

5.) 02 Mar 2016 19:25:55
Right winger, another experienced CB, and a striker to replace Benteke.

6.) 02 Mar 2016 19:28:37
Gazza the rest for me really depends on who goes. If we offload ballotelli and benteke I could see the argument for a striker. Bar that squad wise we are set obviously any player such as coutinho Moreno sturridge to name a few if they move on they will need to be replaced unfortunately Moreno is the most likely I was a big fan of his coming in but hasn't developed anywhere near enough defensively to be considered a long term option. Only thing that might happen bar that is a wide forward we already know we went for teixera at an exorbitant figure so I believe if klopp sees a "star" player he wants for that role I think the club will make it happen personally. However the first few weeks of the window will be key cutting that wage bill asap to allow planning for incomings.

7.) 02 Mar 2016 20:10:48
Gazza : Goalkeeper. Defensive midfielder. Right Back. AM. - to replace/ cover Migs, Clyne, Henderson, Milner, Allen, Markovic - who will be sold, imho.

8.) 02 Mar 2016 21:43:22
Cheers for the replies guys.
Interesting reading.

9.) 03 Mar 2016 00:37:24
What we need for summer is a goalkeeper a experienced/ good CB and a right winger. But we need to sell a lot of other players to make way for them. firstly Bogdan and minolet has to go.
If we can get rid of Skrtel, Sakho (if we can recuperate around 17 mil) and the obvious toure. That's leaves us with lovren, matip, new cb and then the " messiah" and Gomez.
In the midfield Allen and milner should leave. in this way we have Can, hendo, lucas, gujic, steward for two position.
Attacking Mid- all we need is coutinho and firminio and should sell Lallana.
wingers- markovic, ibe, and praet is enough with kids like ojo and canos.
forward - origin, ings, and anew forward if we can sell striddge and benteke.
we don't need to have 4 stikers for 1 postion. the 3 we have (including firminio) and may be someone like Lacazette would be more than sufficient.

10.) 03 Mar 2016 05:37:07
GK to Replace Bogdan, not sure where that leaves WARD, as i don't see Migs leaving. after 5 year contract.

RB : We have Clyne and Flanno and Randall, we don't need a lot.
LB : Enrique to leave, Moreno should be sold or moved to a winger role. Gomez as understudy, we need some one here

CB: Toure to Leave, One of Skertel/ Sakho/ Lovren to be moved and one of Ilori/ Wisdom to leave. (loan/ Sell not sure)
Even then We will have 4 CB with Matip, 2 Other Senior Pros and one of Wisdome/ Illori .
If we can get a Class First team centre back i see another one of trio to leave. Or we may see Lucas as our 4th CB.

DF : Need one here, Lucas is only 1 good enough for the role and even he may be moved to CB.

Mid : Hendo/ Can / Milner 3 will do, Allen to be sold.

WF : Ibe is only one we have now. Get marko back and sign another one.

AM : Lallana to be sold, Tex moving on, Couts and Frimino are more then enough.

Striker: Stru/ Origi / Ings are more then enough for 1 Striker role we have.
Sell Benteke, Sinclair, Balo to leave.

So IN for me
A GK as competition t Migs
A CB if more then 3 leave
A LB who can defend
A WF who can score goals.

Outs:
Bogdan, Enrique, Toure, Moreno, 2/ 3 other CBs, Allen, l. Alberto, Tex, Lallana, Benteke, Balo, Sinclair.

11.) 03 Mar 2016 13:54:23
What a goal. What about Brad Smith as left back?
Can as our holding midfielder, defensive mid?
I agree that a new keeper is a must and I don't see it for another striker either. Origi is shaping up okay, with Ings to return and Firmino being able to play there we are well equipped
I think Skrtel and Sakho will go. Matip, Lovren and Illori with maybe Lucas playing some games there if another centre back can't be sourced with a decent price tag.

12.) 03 Mar 2016 18:05:47
Buy Pogba for Midfield. Play Flanagan in Midfield.
Ibrahimovic up front. Sell Henderson to Paris or Juve.
Make Emre Can the captain.

13.) 03 Mar 2016 22:36:41
Adoma - I was treating your comments as serious until I read you want to buy Ibra. Why on earth would we would we pay a fortune for a guy who is on astronomical wages and nearing the end of his career. Plus he would come with considerable baggage - if Klopp can get him to press even half seriously then he is an even better manager than I think! Plus he is never going to play in the EPL - he's smart enough to know he wouldn't be able to handle the physical demands.
Although i'm interested to know why you would put Flanagan into our midfield.

14.) 04 Mar 2016 12:58:54
What-a-goal, I think you're talking a bit of sense there - you must be on the wrong site haha.
I'd be in no rush to sell lallana though. Plus this plan's fine to say, but there have to be teams that want to buy those players from us, and they need to want to go. We've already seen with enrique that certain players would happily run down their contracts training with the reserves rather than leave for a smaller wage.
The chasing of A Tex in Jan makes me fairly sure that Klopp will look to bring in another goal scorer too.
I guess we'll have to just wait and see.

15.) 05 Mar 2016 02:06:43
Gomez is a CB actually.

Is a keeper still on the agenda this summer, even as a low priority for now?

TSP

1.) My guess is if only Reina were to go. We don't need four senior GKs. Also PR is on high wages.

I'd like to see him get a preseason game and if he is staying a clean slate. Jones is reliable but nothing more than backup/3rd. We've seen him in preseason now, know what he can do. Let's see now if Pepe still has it, or not.

2.) Absolutely no chance of a clean slate for Reina. If you were Rodgers would you give him a second chance after he openly praised a former manager and said he was better than you? Reina has brought this all upon himself by thinking Barca were going to come in for him, he has completely burned any chances of playing for us ever again, unless Mignolet and Jones get injured at the same time and Rodgers is forced into playing him.

3.) If we are wanting to keep Pepe then I'd have thought we'd have seen him in one or two of the pre city games.

You'd have thought that if we were trying to show that we're prepared to hang onto Pepe, we'd have played him too.

By not playing him, it just shows BR does not want him and that will be reflected in any bids.

4.) I don't disagree Scarface. But if he is not going, then I would clear the air and yeah clean slate.
His comments were poor and I don't doubt what Rodgers is doing in shunning him, but if no buyers then wasting £100k a week when he could be useful is pointless. I think he is a better option then Jones

A newspaper reporting that Suarez and his agent are likely to open up talks with the club about a new contract. If that had even the slightest bit of truth to it, I imagine it would be to ensure a solid buy-out clause is put in.

What would make him stay, as pure supposition? FA Cup win, at least 3rd place and 250k+ a week?

TSP

1.) 250k a week!? You're dreaming. Liverpool can't afford to pay that.

2.) That's the point though. The Eds (002 especially) have been saying he's after a big payday. If we want to keep him, we have to pay what he wants or accept he is gone.

3.) Just pay him whatever he wants. He's just that good. I'll chip in towards his salary of need be.

4.) In the modern game, money is king for many a player and player's representatives. I think Suarez has had two or three new contracts in as many years which I think is pretty unusual when the behaviour problems have been so publicized, but when a player is clearly as outstandingly good and ''productive'' as Suarez is, personally i'd try to keep him. Paying Suarez £200k a week is probably cheaper than buying two players and paying them £100k a week each, as an example (Spurs with Lamela and Soldado).

I don't think any of the LFC squad would/could grumble if Suarez was offered a super deal, as Suarez has been a standout performer in a performance based game, with only Ramsey, Sturridge and Aguero anywhere near his performances and they are all still some way a way. Suarez is currently the only player who can be squeezed into the bracket of quality that Messi and Ronaldo have achieved, even if only my opinion, and ultimately it shows Liverpool reward outstanding productivity, but i'm just a fan who doesn't know all too much.

I'd obviously understand if Suarez wanted to go to Real Madrid, Bayern Munich to waltz his way into the Champions League every season and have a good chance of doing the same for the League or for personal ambition, but if I was in charge of Liverpool F.C keeping Suarez would be my priority and finishing in the top four is the first step to climbing that mountain. IMHO.

5.) I think paying him to keep him would be the most sensible solution. We need him not only for his ability but for the encouragement to the other youngsters in the team.

6.) If spurs have taught us anything, they have taught us that u cannot sell and replace your best and most influential player with quantity. You need almost to the same type of quality and they would never have achieved that. No amount of players can replace not just the man Suarez but his sheer quality and ability on the field. NO WAY! Like someone said, I`d rather pay Suarez whatever he wants than sell him for a fortune and replace him w/ a pack of players of inferior quality. In economics, cost efectiveness and value are very important. Hence, PAY HIM WHAT HE WANTS!

7.) Let me remind you all that Suarez was missing for the first part if the season and did we really miss him? Don't get me wrong we should try and keep him but not lose sight of what is best for the club financially. A balancing act

8.) Personally I would like him to continue like he is and then take the 100million coming to us.

Play Couthino in the number 10 position just behind Sturridge.

100 million will get us a decent LB (15m), a left sided player of say Sanchez quality (30m) (not particularly him but that standard) Another attacking midfileder (25m) and if FSG could throw in their normal 20million budget a another striker to rotate with sturridge. (maybe offer 20-30 million for Lukaku)

basically I would sell next summer. Spurs simply bought to many players who are too simular.

Ed001 mentioned in passing that we might have been having a look at Rakitic recently. Is anything likely to come of that? {Ed002's Note - As I said in the summer, Rakitic would be an unusual choice for Liverpool unless a central midfield player is leaving. The long term interest in him is from Lazio where he was expected to move in the summer. Personally I do not see him moving in January.}

Is it any clearer whether Flanagan will be signing a new contract ie is he fit enough?

Or is the managerial uncertainty throwing that into doubt?

TSP

{Ed002's Note - Whatever happens with the manager will have no impact on contracts.}

1.) 26 Apr 2015 22:47:10
I guess we'll just have to wait and see then. I hope he does get a contract, otherwise we'll be Scouser-less for the first time in. ever?

Hi guys,

I actually do have a question for once, and it isn't about whether or not were signing every player ever.

Is there any plan (that you know of) for Danny Ward? Thanks in advance.

No chance of a Matuidi, Konoplyanka & Coentrao triple sweep at all?

Sigh. I'd settle for Coentrao's left peg at this point. We could give it to Cissohko so he could hit the ball properly.

Any chance of Matuidi, anyway? Given he's still on a contract that ends in June (IIRC) and PSG are signing Cabaye?

Would you happen to know the terms of Moses's loan? Can he play against Chelsea, for example? {Ed008's Note - Season long Loan and he can't play against Chelsea.

TSP

1.) Cheers, 008.

2.) Any option to buy at the end of the loan period do we know eds? {Ed002's Note - Not in the contract, no.}

3.) I don't particularly have a problem with that. Just hope Borini shows good form and comes back to fight for his place in the team. I would have in fact kept hold of him.

Why on earth would DJ Spoony have any idea what goes on within the club, when there has been a massive crackdown on info coming out?

Well it was kind of obvious, wasn't it? We've spent a reasonably large amount of money with no large income coming in.
