Hello Ed's.

Is it true that Yesil is moving to Fenerbahce? Also heard a rumour that we have agreed personal terms with Kovacic but yet to agree a fee with Inter.

Personally I get a feeling similar to Markovic transfer on this. Exciting but unsure about the quality of the player.

Your response will be greatly appreciated.

SASHA YNWA

{Ed002's Note - Fenerbahce would need to talk to Liverpool about any transfer - but at this time they haven't. However, his agent is keen to move the player on as he is not going to get opportunities at Liverpool - Turkey would be a likely destination. Kovacic has been dealt with.}

1.) 07 Jun 2015 12:54:17
Wouldn't a loan in this country be better for us? He had so much potential before his injuries he may get back to his best.

I think it would be premature to sell him now. I fear the same sometimes for both Teixera and Flanagan. We sold Kelly too early for the same reason so give the kid a chance.

{Ed002's Note - I rather doubt he has any future at Liverpool.}

2.) 07 Jun 2015 21:47:35
Have to agree with Ed002.Yesil could still develop into a decent player but not looking like an EPL player.I doubt if Teixera will either even if he does fully recover from his injury ( brokrn leg ?)
Flanno has signed a new ontract and hopefully will start next season fit and raring to go. Martin Kelly is not a top 4 quality player.

A question for Ed's. I often see many fans saying that we were lacking depth and bench strength last season and as a result we struggled.

I believe we had a better bench strength than Spurs and they were dominant. The only thing that did not go our way is the constant injuries. Otherwise I think our current team is good enough to pose a challenge coming season.

Any comments Ed's?

SASHA YNWA

{Ed001's Note - our first team was more of an issue than our bench, though there were times that the bench was just kids, that should be seen as an opportunity to introduce them, rather than a problem. No point having a strong bench if your first team is not strong enough to win games. We have improved the first team, with the addition of Salah and now Robertson, that is what matters. The bench improves anyway, as players that were first choice drop down, so I fail to see the point of worrying about the bench.}

1.) 21 Jul 2017 16:29:53
That's the problem we had under Hodgson and to a certain extent Rafa, we looked at improving the bench, but they weren't challenging the first team. No competition = complacency. Also on Ed's point if you don't bleed in youngsters then the bench will always be weak, Spurs are reaping the benefits from giving youth a go!

2.) 21 Jul 2017 18:13:26
Our first team and bench have been improved this summer so even tho, there will be some kids on the bench, they are now a year older now and should be getting chances as well this season but only time will tell if Klopp will be using them.

Our reputation has been dented further. No wonder clubs around the world do not want to or avoid doing business with us.

Anyways damage has been done and I guess it will take a few years to get it right provided there are no more slip ups.

As far as the transfer window is concerned, I have really lost interest in our transfer dealings and would rather see the same team as last year's rather than buying for the sake of it as none of the bigger clubs or players would play for us unless we cough up substantial amounts. There are younger players within our ranks who can be given a chance. Worst case scenario can be that season may turn out to be a failure but aren't we used to all this!

Let us just watch the game today as fans of LFC. We will always expect big things from our beloved club and that is the beauty of being a supporter. If we win we have achieved what we are all waiting for, however, if we loose I will be disappointed, dejected and blame players, managers and owners. However at the end I will be back supporting my beloved LFC the next day. I will come again to this site to check the transfer rumors. That is the beauty of being a LFC supporter. Keeping fingers crossed.

I understand people saying that we need to support players so early into the season but let's face it. Most of these players are the same who have been in the PL for more than a season now. I somehow feel that players who were pivotal for their previous clubs scoring goals providing assists and contributing to the team came to our club and do the opposite.

Higher wages, big transfer fee pressure, bad transfer decisions or its just a jinx may be the possible reasons.

Very confused what to make of the team right now.

Wrong style. We don't have the players to play a possetion small passes through the centre game. Also, not sure which players you are referring to who were amazing in their previous teams. Ings, who many here see as our next messiah scored 8 goals for his previous team. Benteke is the exception but this brings me back to wrong style.

2.) 21 Aug 2016 22:01:49
I don't think anybody here views Danny Ings as a messiah; most here thinks he is a good squad player who gives it his all but right now, he is the 4th choice forward.

Blaming Mignolet for errors is not right. Our entire defence is fragile with everyone at the back is a mistake waiting to happen. May it be Skirted, Clyne, Lovren or Moreno. Either we promote someone from the youth team or get quality in the transfer market rather than just filling the positions for sake of it.

Can is showing improvements but looses ball too often in good situations. Lucas is mostly there to support the back 4 which is in a way right thing given the state of our defence.

I heard a commentator stating that Milner has created most chances for us this season. But how many of those were real chances. I still have reservations on Henderson taking us forward. I think he can be more effective with pace upfront rather than Benteke. Sturridge as always a big loss for us.

Ibe and Lallana are very inconsistent. I don't understand why these guys prefer to just run with the ball when either they can pass or shoot.

I still believe Firmino can be a class player but lacks confidence. I think he will come good if there are right players around him. We need out n out wingers. Origi is still unconvincing but should improve. Liked the way he got up from the tackle and scored even though it was via deflection.

Coutinho is the only player who is performing but lacks pace. However his trickery does make up for it.

As most of us feel I don't understand how Benteke fits into the team. I want to see how Sturridge and Benteke can play together. I believe Sturridge can bring best out of him.

All in all chances of getting into top 4 are very slim which was expected. For a while after City win expectations skyrocketed but let us be considerate. We need to give Klopp time to implement his ideas and getting the players he wants. And somehow for the last few matches I do not see us playing full throttle.

1.) 15 Dec 2015 14:45:12
He was at fault for both goals. No ifs ands or buts.

2.) 15 Dec 2015 15:01:31
To be fair mignolet is largely at fault for goals v Norwich palace, saints and west brom . He's ave rating for prem lge keepers is rock bottom .

3.) 15 Dec 2015 15:20:55
For me Milner is the big mistery. Everyone here say consistently he is awful, the guy just cannot give a decent pass or cross if it is not to a person standing near him. and yet every pundit praise him as a great signing with all this 'chances creating' why has he so few assists then? The worse is though is that it seems that for Klopp Milner is the first name on the team sheet in every competition. Yes he runs a lot, strong and is always there to get the ball but what does all this worth when he cannot give a pass for more than two yards?

4.) 15 Dec 2015 15:35:10
And also at fault for the goal vs Bordeaux or are you going to blame that on the defence too, Sasha? Mingo has been here three seasons now and is still making the same mistakes and costing us goals and in some cases, points like he did when he first arrived. What does that tell you, Sasha? It tells me that he`s not going to get any better and we aren`t good enuff yet to overcome his mistakes and the WBA game was a good example of that. I have been wary of criticizing him but after Sunday, I`m officially done. with him. It doesn`t matter how good your defence is. if the GK is laying eggs on the field at the most crucial of times, you will always struggle.

5.) 15 Dec 2015 15:44:43
The goalkeeper dictates the defence - if a goalkeeper is calm and assured then there is a good chance the defenders in front of him will be. If he is erratic, panicked, unpredictable and unable to command his area then his defenders are not going to be resting easy and the nervousness he instills in them will become apparent.

Mignolet is the single biggest cause of our defensive fragility. Even in games where he is not directly responsible for goals he is an important factor as his actions unsettle his own defence. I'm not saying Skrtel or Lovren are perfect - i've previously mentioned Skrtel's rank habit of retreating backwards indefinitely when under pressure - but Mignolet organises nobody and just puts the jitters up everyone around him with his play. I have no clue who'd be worth signing but I'm pretty sure we need to move Mignolet on if we want to have a solid defence than can actually stop conceding goals.

6.) 15 Dec 2015 17:58:55
If mignolet came out and caught that cross for the first goal it doesn't matter if you have 11 dustbins defending, the goal wouldn't have gone in.

7.) 15 Dec 2015 18:13:18
Our clean sheet record is pretty good which shows its not the defence its calamity mignolet.

8.) 15 Dec 2015 19:59:01
Has he not made more mistakes that contributed directly to a goal than any other keeper for the last so long? I'm sure I read that somewhere.

9.) 15 Dec 2015 20:38:38
Wassa-lfc your right. Since joining migs has made 8 mistakes that have directly resulted in a goal, that's more than any other GK in the league!

Even the response that eveyone uses as an excuse for him saying that "he's a good shot stopper" can be thrown out the water. Again since joining he has saved 67.6% of shots against him which ranks him 18th out of 31. Not even top half!

The worst and most damning stat is that migs has chosen to punch more crosses (80) than those he has caught (79). Comparatively, the majority of other GKs have all caught at least double the amount of crosses than they have punched. That in itself highlights migs major flaw in a basic technique expected of a GK, he can't catch!

I always have and will continue to believe he is the biggest liability in the Liverpool starting line up. Although I think our only hope of a replacement is seeing if Danny ward can claim the number 1 jersey after a good year with Aberdeen.

10.) 15 Dec 2015 20:45:19
Blaming Mingolet is 100% right, he's a poor keeper. How anyone can say different is beyond me. His mistakes go back a long while, he's not going to change overnight. Let's get rid and hope the next keeper is calm and assured in what he does.

11.) 15 Dec 2015 22:35:32
For me it's not about blaming anyone for x, y and z. Mignolet is not a top 4 keeper, it's as simple as that. Sunderland was his level.

12.) 15 Dec 2015 22:46:05
I don't blame migs for that goal vs Bordeaux you can't predict a referee enforcing the rules such as that, as i said at the time I have seen countless keepers take much longer to kick from their hands. It's the first time I have ever seen a keeper pulled up on it in 10 years and it was a bullshit call considering they've let so many other go.

Now I agree as I always have Migs was NEVER good enough his footwork poor and his kicking. Though people blame him for his distribution being slow, when you watch him he's always looking for the quick throw and at times he got it, especially when we had SASAS boy did he get that ball otu quick to them at times, this year I have seen the same when sturridge plays.
However, because of the immobility of Benteke he has really slowed down, Benteke doesn't move, he sits, jumps and nods it down to whomever may be running on. he doesn't try and peel off, find space or anything, he's peter crouch at times.

Also to say the keeper is the dictator of the defense is rubbish, that's why you have centrebacks that talk and command. sorry but to simply blame our poor set piece defending and other parts on Migs is a cop out. Skrtel is ludicrously poor at communicating and so lacking in confidence he bring those around him down, hence he constantly used to back pass to migs and almost always waited till Migs had pressure on him, saving himself from blame, which for me was just cowardly and buck passing. Mignolet is NOT the single biggest cause of our defensive fragigility, that fragility was there when pepe was there but sur every one go ahead and forget about BR's first season in charge and pepe's/Skrtels/Aggers inability to defend.

Skrtel Lovren and Clyne are simply not good enough as well as Migs, simply blaming Migs and saying he's the ''defensive corner stone' is a massive cop out, other than Sakho, Not a single one of our defenders do I consider good enough.

13.) 16 Dec 2015 01:18:44
Boba, the law is the law and just because some refs couldn't be arsed to follow it by calling it a foul doesn't make it any less a foul. Mingo had the ball for TWENTY TWO seconds and the rule is six seconds. Sorry bro, he caused the goal just like he cost us goal vs WBA. Those are the facts.

14.) 16 Dec 2015 09:32:50
I know the laws the law, but it should be enforced regularly, and across the board not haphazard when a referee choses Ohio. I don't particularly blame Migs, he and other keepers were so used to holding onto it for such long periods (particular examples when closing out games and keepers catch a ball from a corner go to ground and lay there for 10 seconds get up, hold onto it for 10 more, walk to the other side of the box, kick it after 30 seconds. The inconsistency in the enforcement caused the issue not Migs. I don't mind migs getting pinged, but maybe from now on, there should be some sort of stop clock played from when a keeper catches it and a buzzer goes off like in basketball having a shotclock? It's not really a hard rule to apply effectively and highlights how poor reffing has become.

Yes he caused the goal vs west brow but as I have said in other threads he saved us points vs spurs everton etc. but people are keen to forget those performances.

{Ed001's Note - when did he save us points that any other keeper in the Premier League would not have made the save? There has never been an instance when he has done anything that was beyond the expectations of an average keeper. Never. So to suggest he saved us points is nonsense, you would expect any keeper to make those saves at this level.}

15.) 16 Dec 2015 10:57:41
Thing is boba, that's what his remit is, to save goal bound shots and as ed001 says, most keepers in the premier league would have saved them.
If a striker had scored 10 goals but at the same time scored 5 avoidable own goals you'd criticise him for the own goals.

16.) 16 Dec 2015 11:25:38
But the point is ed he did make those saves and they saved us points, if we're going to level the same blame of mistakes costing points, Skrtel's in ability to defend has let people through on goal. I've said previously with you and mentioned 3 great saves he made about a year and a half ago that saved us points and you disagreed about them being world class I don't see the point in having a debate about what conbstitues a world class save again it's going over old ground ed001. And I just can't be arsed with it.

I could argue if I wanted for example Joe Allens horrific back pass that got caught out in europe and Mignolet coming and heading it outside the area (poor header, but regardless their player was through as one time Migs saved us a point (same game as the ill times distribution I think) or how about every time Skrtel or some one gives away a dumb pentaly that migs has saved example when we beat stoke 1-0 studge scored and we gave a penalty away in the last minute which he seaved, that save saved us 2 points. Is it world class. NO, does he save us 2 points. yes. Do we expect every keeper to save every penalty. no. It's pretty subjective when you're bringing in ''world class saves'' but undeniably that save saved us 2 points did it not?

{Ed001's Note - so you have come up with one then, well done. The rest is just unrelated gibberish. If we had a better keeper organising the defence, Skrtel might not make so many mistakes, so you have to leave out the initial error and just focus on what he actually does. Such as how Migs has the lowest save percentage in the Prem.}

17.) 16 Dec 2015 11:28:07
Terrible analogy Ron. And not really what the debate was about. Something more akin would be every time a striker shoots and doesn't score/use the better option. see Countinho as an example of this.

18.) 16 Dec 2015 11:44:07
Not one ed001. Like I said I previously had this debate with you and mentioned 3 different ones last year, I don't see the point in going over old ground mate, you argued they weren't world class I argued I didn't believe many keepers would have made the same saves, we disagreed subjectively about them. I just don't see the point in doing this back and forth again pal, I just thought I'd highlight that one as it's the easiest to grasp.

I disagree. I think at set pieces yes the keeper needs to organise better, but when the play is free flowing, that's on Skrtel or whoever may be the defensive captain.

I don't know why you'd bring up the lwoest save percentage, we all know starts are misleading, you yourself believe that to be true, we also know migs has the most amount of clean sheets, Sorry ed you don't get it both ways for me and highlight his poor save % as a reason he's terrible and then say the clean sheets are nothing to do with him and stats are misleading.

Is there anything he can do when Newscastle counter attack us? When Moreno let's his man drift off him at the far post for a header like chelsea, maybe a world class keeper would have got to Agueros shot, maybe they wouldn't but it was a cracking shot, would a world class keeper have stopped bolasies opener after can's poor clearance?
We've restricted the shots at Migs but it means nothing if we then gift easy and golden opportunities in the box for opposition players. So essentially altering stats.

{Ed001's Note - you are obviously not getting my point, I was using an in-context stat to show how he is not making any special saves, as we know he is failing to stop lots of shots he should save, let alone all his pathetic errors. You are going back over old ground because you are having to in defence of the indefensible, Mignolet is a crap keeper and he has saved nothing special and your pointless defence of his uselessness is just ridiculous. I am done with it though as you have nothing to add, just pulling up the same crap. Oh and as for clean sheets, that can easily be ignored because of the fact that in the same period he has conceded the most and saved the lowest percentage of shots. So yes, on their own stats are misleading, but we are adding them into a context of our own eyes, while you are just spouting nonsense in a bizarre attempt to defend dross.

He could have saved a large percentage of the shots he allowed in, which is something that gets pointed out regularly. I really do not know why you are so blind that you can't see what a truly dreadful keeper he is. He is not even a good shotstopper as can be seen by anyone who has eyes in their head, except somehow you.}

19.) 16 Dec 2015 12:05:08
I am not defending Migs. Just that BS call vs Bordeaux and don't really get all the criticism levelled at just him atm when Clyne Skrtel and Lovren clearly are not good enough. I have never said Mignolet was a good keeper, and I said at the time we purchased him he wasn't what we needed (nor did I agree begovic was. I didn't rate either that we were seemingly in for)

Are your refuting that reducing shots but still allowing easier opportunities (as has occurered) will not change the shot save percentages? I was trying to add my own little bit of context to the stat you highlighted ed. I don't see what was nonesense about the samples I highlighted personally. Did you think he could have saved Aguero's shot, Bolasies, wignaldums coutner attack, Skrtels own goal, ramires header, Olsonns header fromm a set piece from the front post etc. I don't see many of those as anything to do with being his fault.
Possibly he could have come out for Dann's but Clyne was terrible and Dann just bullies (firmino I think) to get in position.

The only clear one in recent memory was dawsons goal which he was shocking.

Does Mignolet need to go YES

Is there some hypobole about almost every goal being his fault? for me YES

Are Skrtel Lovren Clyne blameless NO.

20.) 17 Dec 2015 22:57:37
Migs is the worst keeper we have had since westerweld. And westerweld was a better shot stopper, so I might being doing him a dis service. The reality is he should be able to be a decent shot stopper. That is basics of being a pl level keeper. He flaps and has literally no command of his area, which leaves to chaos in the area and panic in the back four. Poor decisions making. And no communication. Skyrtyl is awful but looked twice the player with raina behind him.
Lfc have good defender and need a keeper they have confidence in.
It reminds me of when David James took over from grobs. Grobs had great distribution, command and communication. Defence looked solid, same defender with James behind and looked a mess.
