With all the talk of our woeful defence, what ideally would people rather see. Liverpool winning games with a grinding 1-0 week in week out by tinkering with the balance in midfield to protect our back four more, or continue to watch attacking and at times breathtaking footy and winning games 4-3? Whilst I want to see us win the league at any cost at this point, it would be hard to watch us win it ala a Maureen style defensive team or when Leicester were winning most games on the counter 1-0. My point being a win is a win however it comes and being so hung up on keeping it tight at the back will inevitably mean we won't get as many chances up front.

I'd rather see us not concede silly goals, regardless of where they come from.

There is a stark difference to Mourinho football and that the likes of which Arsenal and City played in their title winning seasons, a good defence and winning games by more than a goal aren't mutually exclusive.

We should be prioritizing that CB position as much as if humanly possible before 1st September.

Our defensive issues are far, far more basic than just being caught out because we play in an attacking manner.

Playing attacking football doesn't excuse us from conceding scruffy goals from set pieces. It doesn't excuse Lovren not getting anywhere near Wagner for his goal or his general habit of switching off in games. It doesn't excuse our goalkeeper needing three attempts to catch a cross.

I suppose we could cover these deficiencies by playing like Houllier had us play, but that's all it would be: covering over instead of fixing them. They could be fixed with a quality addition and a bit of on pitch leadership without needing to change how we play.

3.) 25 Aug 2017 01:57:34
rushie I think you are completely missing the point. playing this fast pace high attacking football means we need to have a solid 4 at the back, mainly the cb's to let robbo and taa run the flanks. having a solid defence doesn't mean we have to change our style of play, I just means to be successful it is needed.

4.) 25 Aug 2017 06:21:24
1-0 everytime.
Title winning sides have solid defences.

5.) 25 Aug 2017 08:32:02
Something Red and Giant are spot on. Our defensive issues stem from basic errors. It is not rocket science solving our issues and to say that we should keep doing what we are doing and conceding stupid, silly goals cos well, we attack a lot, is a cop out and dereliction of duty. We have a back four that has no confidence in their GK. Why? Cos he is dodgy, does not have confidence in himself (talks a good game, tho) and should never have been put back in the team, period regardless of Karius' two pathetic errors which was overhyped and many fans turned on him.

Karius was bought cos Migs had been a failure but suddenly everyone forgot about all that. If we had an authoritative GK, our back four would know that he has their back if they screw up, just like Utd know that DDG will bail them out cos their defence is not that great either.

Klopp should have stuck with him at the time BUT I understand why he did it. The kid played 10 games and barely had anything to do BUT everyone blamed him for the B'mouth meltdown whereas there was a lot of blame to go around for that meltdown including that of Klopp. Now, we are stuck with the old Migs, flapping at crosses.

Ed's (and all for discussion) . Given Pipco leaves do you see Klopp changing his formation to deal with the loss or go for a like for like number 10? I for one would like to see us get Dolberg from Ajax and maybe move Firmino back into the role Couts was likely going to play this season. I know he hasn't gone yet but it looks likely. Thoughts?

Rushiestash

{Ed002's Note - He won't change anything to do with the formation.}

1.) 11 Aug 2017 14:40:54
Thanks for the reply Ed have LFC shown any previous interest in Dolberg? I know he would cost a packet but surely with all the money likely washing about even before the Coutinho money we could afford it. I used search but last time he was mentioned was June.

{Ed002's Note - No.}

2.) 11 Aug 2017 14:50:13
Damn the lad is class aswell, suppose the stepping stone scenario might take place again tho, Ajax - LFC - Barcelona 😂😂 Thanks for a great site by the way and hard work you all put in.

{Ed002's Note - That is what Keita was suggesting as well - he said the move would get him to one of the "big clubs" in a couple of yeras - Barcelona, Real madrid or Manchester City.}

3.) 11 Aug 2017 14:54:03
I'd go for Dolberg as well. May as well pay £30-40m for him now when he will be going for £100m next year.

I thought you mentioned the other day that Liverpool may have had a look at Dolberg Ed.

{Ed002's Note - Looking at a player is far from any interest being sjhown. Clubs look at hundreds perhaps thousands of players each year. Interest is declared in far fewer. You can forget Dolberg.}

4.) 11 Aug 2017 15:06:39
Who can we look to then ed?

{Ed002's Note - I have been through this over and over.}

The fact that LFC were in a strong position over Coutinho and ended up basically buckling to the players demands is what doesn't sit well. I doubt Couthino would have sat on the sideline for the last 4 months of the season sulking given it's a world cup year and he has his sponsors to satisfy etc. Basically if we were going to sell him we may aswell have done this in the summer. Barcelona tried to screw us over by coming in with inadequate bids late in the window meaning we had no chance to negotiate a replacement in time. LFC should have stuck to their guns and made him stay til the summer. He may have caused issues in the dressing room or equally he may have played ball and got on with it like he did once the window closed in the summer. We all realise loyalty is a long gone commodity in football and it's not wise to keep a player beyond them wanting to leave but look at Arsenal, they haven't come out of the Sanchez saga too bad and he only had 5 months left on his deal. LFC have had their pants pulled down once again sorry to say!

Sly source is Cout's missus, already got the factor 20 from H&B and cases packed. Only going to end one way this with LFC caught with their pants down again and everyone having a good chuckle as we pay over the odds panic buying a squad member to plug the un-pluggable! Oh and we'll probably get the cash in instalments. Was looking forward to the weekends footy but now this will dominiate all weekend until the lad signs for Barca.

Fair enough Ed we had a nighmare in the cups last season but there was a collusion of circumstances that your don't get every season that directly effected us after Christmas. I'm not a blind LFC fan who says the old 'this is our year' etc etc but even You've got to admit if there was no ACN and Coutinho and Hendo would have played a full season then we may well be sitting here as current PL champions. Those mushies ain't that strong believe you me. On a side note do you think a deal with Barcelona taking Couts next season instead is on the table as has been suggested for a guaranteed price?

{Ed002's Note - But what if Stoke had won every game?}

Think we're grasping here folks we all know how this will end up. No VVD, no Keita and Phil leaves a week before the end of the window! Hope against major hope this doesn't happen but we've seen all this before over recent seasons. Sorry Macca but it's guess work from yourself and Ed002 is clearly Chelski through and through reading his desperation that LFC implode prior to being on the brink of major honours!

Rushiestash

{Ed025's Note - on the brink of major honours????...scraping 4th and nowhere near in any cups is the brink now is it rushie?..lay off the drugs mate..

It's a sad state of affairs if your best player wants to leave given we're in the CL barring a disaster against Hoffenheim and on the genuine cusp of a real challenge for the PL. Why not just wait until next season, and if you have another corker which is likely Barcelona will still be there and in the meantime you give the club and fans that love you a bit back. If he puts in a transfer request then fair enough let him go but not for a poxy £85mil or whatever is
Being offered in instalments. Remember Suarez? Barcelona were still paying off that transfer for 3 seasons. Money is no use to you if you lose the belief of your fan base and most importantly the best manager we've had in years. I've read all the previous posts about courting Barcelona for a season etc etc but if Coutinho is honest he'll be playing 3rd maybe 4th fiddle to messi Suarez etc where at LFC he can cement legendary status with a PL title. Come on Pipco tell them you're happy at LFC and to go round the block until next season.

Never listen to the man plus he's Espanyol through and through so he isn't going to get any pleasure from seeing Barcelona pull off their main deal of the summer.

Agree, it's a fine balancing act though between attack and defence. The last 3 LFC managers have struggled to get the balance just right. Think we may have to concede here that 'heavy metal' football whilst boss to watch is not going to win us a league. Feel we just need to fine tune and will have a real chance. Klopp had it spot on when he said they had luck from corners and we had none. Still a points better than nothing and we were away. We'll improve that's for sure.

Not really and they would likely smash us everywhere and Coutinho would score a worldy free kick to rub salt in. All optimism has gone. 😂😂😂.
