Hi Ed’s have we shown any interest in Malcolm from Bordeaux or Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk? Cheaper options and both look very good on the ball. Would love to hear your opinions on what you think off both players and if they would be suitable to replace coutinho (which is very difficult) .

Ricky83

{Ed001's Note - we have watched Malcolm a number of times and he would not be a cheaper option in any way shape or form, no idea why you would even suggest that he is.}

1.) 07 Jan 2018 05:06:10
Surely we want the best option, not the cheapest option.

{Ed001's Note - the lad is a forward, he would be more of a replacement for Salah than Coutinho.}

2.) 07 Jan 2018 05:46:28
Was just going off the figures that have been doing the rounds . Have read up figures off 30-40 million which is a lot cheaper than the 90 million For Lemar. Judging by the replies Lemar is our number one target so hopefully we can get this one over the line before the Man City game. Ed’s do You think either Fred or Malcom would improve us a great deal? Or are there better and viable options out there for us? Thank you for your replies and appreciate all the hard work you put in.

{Ed001's Note - this is why we don't talk money, the articles suggesting 30-40m for Malcom are insane, they asked a lot more than that. I have no ideas about Fred, never seen him play, but the other lad is quality, however he is very much like Salah and so would only be worth pursuing if Salah left.}

Hi Ed’s with Can leaving and coutinho gone, we have brought in Keita for next season (unless we pull it off and get him in January) . I have read we are pursuing Goretzka but most likely will sign for Bayern Munich. I was wondering if we had any interest in Fred? He has been linked with Man City and does look a neat player. If anybody at Liverpool F. C. reads this forum please please report back to klopp to check this guy out!

Ricky83

{Ed002's Note - No Ricky, there is no interest from Liverpool.}

Any kind of win for me. It's the makings of a cracker but I'd take a 1-0 deflection. Be interesting to see how City react after getting beat. 3 points are all that counts today especially with spurs winning yesterday.

Gutted at coutinho leaving but he has gone and we move on. What a brilliant player he has been for us and it’s shame he wouldn’t see out the season with us. Good luck and wish him all the best at Barcelona F. C. Time for all the rumours on who will replace coutinho. Just wish we spend the money wisely and not waste it like we did with the Suarez money.

1.) 07 Jan 2018 00:12:09
Love the thumbs down there, short memory. He's been with us 5 years not 5 months. All the best Coutinho!

2.) 07 Jan 2018 01:30:46
At least we still have Mr klopp.

3.) 07 Jan 2018 04:14:26
Whatever has gone on coutinho on the pitch he has been magnificent for us. He is leaving us in a very healthy position last 16 of the champions league and 4th in the league. He has contributed to some memorable moments at LFC which should never be forgotten. His behaviour could have been better in getting his dream but maybe he was worried Barcelona would go and sign players and not come back in for him. I am sad at coutinho going but life goes on and wish him well and not be bitter about it. Bought him for 8.5 million and sold him for 146 million how can we really argue with that? Move on fellow reds and trust in klopp to replace him well. Sorry to hear about your loss ed thoughts and prayers with you at such a tragic time.

Plenty of rumours linking us to mahrez today. I am very excited at the prospect of mahrez joining us. 7 goals and 7 assists in 14 games for Leicester is a good return. I understand there will be some baggage but I am pretty sure Klopp will get the best out of him. Man management skills seem to be brilliant and keeps all the players smiling (barring coutinho) with his hugs. Lemar would be an brilliant signing but 90 million does seem a lot to pay when we could probably get mahrez for 40-50 million.

1.) 06 Jan 2018 05:05:58
Problem is he is a right winger who cuts in on his left. We already have Salah so were would Mahrez play. I don't think he is versatile enough to play midfield like Coutinho.

2.) 06 Jan 2018 08:16:53
Mahrez is class and would fit in well behind firmino. He glides past players, can easily unlock defences and while he is lazy, so is couts. Midfield 3 of goretz nobby and mahrez, yes please!

3.) 06 Jan 2018 08:51:02
Not much going on defensively there though bennie.

4.) 06 Jan 2018 09:00:42
Need players that can do both mate. Just look at kdb how he gets up and down.

5.) 06 Jan 2018 09:18:40
Who do you put at the base of the midfield 3 though without stifling there game somewhat?

6.) 06 Jan 2018 09:45:21
I don't know enough abput mahrez to say whether he could play in CM, but from I have seen I just don't see it. Right wing yes, but as others have said, we have salah. wouldn't complain about adding that kind of depth!

7.) 06 Jan 2018 09:52:52
Don’t think I’ve ever seen mahrez defend haha

Personally if phil goes this window I don’t think we’ll get anyone in as a replacement.

8.) 06 Jan 2018 10:29:43
I'm not sure I would pay 4 - 5 pounds for Mahrez, let alone 40 - 50 mil. Lazy, lazy player. Where will he play anyway? Is Salah leaving? Not sure its wise for Liverpool to be buy 50 million pound squad players anyway.

The coutinho transfer talk is really p*****g me off. He does not want to play for Liverpool F. C. let the guy go. Rafinha looks a tidy player wouldn’t mind him being thrown into the deal. Would love mahrez am sure klopp would work his magic with him as he has with mane, salah and ox. He seems to get the best out them and improve their work rate. Mahrez would also be available to play champions league for us. Brilliant job on here Ed’s keep up the good work. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽.

1.) 05 Jan 2018 06:05:52
Ricky. We need to keep away from rafinha. In my opinion he is a very limited player who wouldn't have much impact. Straight cash for coutinho if they want him or one of Barca's top players in the deal (sergi roberto) would be my pick

I like mahrez but don't see where he fits into our team. If klopp wants him then that's fine with me but I think judging by all the rumours lemar is the player klopp wants.

Interesting few weeks ahead. As much as I want coutinho gone I think its madness to sell him unless we get the replacement klopp wants. We have got out of that stage of buying for the sake of it.

2.) 05 Jan 2018 06:13:55
Mahrez might need 6 months of conditioning to get himself embedded in the team.

3.) 05 Jan 2018 08:55:39
If Mahrez needs 6 months of conditioning then i don't want him in my Monday night 6 a side team, let alone at Liverpool!

To be fair, with the amount of bleach he's used, his hair needs more like 12 months of conditioning!

4.) 05 Jan 2018 09:38:40
Haha MK, I'm sure mahrez has bags of skills to wow the crowds, but he looks even less valuable as a box to box CM as coutinho. also if mahrez were to play his proper poaition, are we going to bench salah!?

5.) 05 Jan 2018 09:42:37
Has anyone actually got any running stats on Mahrez. All I read is how lazy he is. Wasnt it the same for Mane before he came and I can't remember anyone saying we should sign Salah because he's great at tracking back and pressing.

6.) 05 Jan 2018 10:05:49
Mahrez is in no way of sufficient quality to replace Coutinho, realistically Coutinho is in the top three number ten type players in the premier league, between him KDB and Hazard, that is a downgrade of Andy Carroll proportions.

7.) 05 Jan 2018 10:25:57
That's the problem mr Dennis. To replace him adequately we would have to sign Hazard or KDB. So whoever we sign is going to be a step down.

8.) 05 Jan 2018 10:44:12
But by that token why waste £50m on an also ran like Mahrez? Is that seriously the best out recruitment team can come up with?

9.) 05 Jan 2018 11:22:16
I'd take Rafinha as a squad player, based on the assumption that Grujic, Can and Milner are probably all leaving in the summer. With Keita incoming for the starting XI, Rafinha just adds a bit of depth to an otherwise depleted midfield. Aside from Wijnaldum (who) is average all the others are either in the twilight of their careers (Milner, Lallana), have bad injury records (Ox, Hendo, Grujic), or get suspended a lot (Keita) .

If we land Lemar and Rafinha this month then we don't need to have any concerns about midfield for at least another season, bearing in mind Keita will join in the Summer. If we don't get a couple this month, then Grujic goes on loan, Henderson struggles for fitness, and Lallana aggravates his injury again, we might have to finish the season with Milner, Emre Can with his heart already in Italy, Gini with his head anywhere but the football pitch, and Lemar who may or may not hit the ground running.

At least Rafinha is a stable back up who can cover every midfield role and is comfortable in a passing team, but also proven in the Champions league. I'd rather Ceballos admittedly, so i hope we scrap any Rafinha deal and focus on signing him. He is a special talent. Either way, we need a midfielder in my opinion though.

Henderson's long term injury is basically a thickening of the tissue around the tendon on the bottom of the foot. It is very painful, but playing through it can actually break down the tissue and eventually it will get less painful (as he has been doing) .

A couple of months out with a hamstring injury will not only affect his match fitness, but it also means he has to be eased back to avoid tearing it again, but it also prevents him from keeping active to ensure the tissue build up around the tendon isn't excessive over the next month or two. By the time he is back to full fitness, it'll be the end of the season at least.

I've been his biggest supporter, but this is it lads. It's time to move on and make plans for life without him. We've given him 3 years of patience. It's sad because when fit he is a great player, but he's not been fit since 2015. How much longer do we have to give him? He finally looked close to good form again in November, and now he's back to square 1.

10.) 05 Jan 2018 12:45:10
Mahrez? I'll pass on him in a heartbeat esp. with all the peroxide he has on his head currently.

Totally agree with your points. Sturridge looks like his confidence is shot to pieces and can't play under klopp. The movement, skilful and sharp sturridge seems like a long distant memory. What a shame as on his day he was a class act. our opponents seem to be sharper than us, what's gone wrong?

Can't really understand why we would sign a player and then the manager does not back him. I'm pretty sure Rodgers would have asked the club to sign him unless he was a board signing? . Aspas has the ability no doubt and watching him torment Barcelona last year (what a performance by him) also against Real Madrid this week got me thinking imagine we signed him he would cost us 15million+. Good luck to the lad and well done.
