I know the market has gone mad recently but even so I cannot see the Ox being worth the reported 30 mil we have bid for him considering he has one year left on his contract.

He seems to have made it pretty clear that he would like to join us, so instead of getting fleeced by Arsenal, surely we could wait until he is free to move next summer and give the role he would have played this season to a couple of the promising youngsters we have?

Should do a straight swap with sakho. That will solve a few problems.

2.) 30 Aug 2017 14:03:00
Herring, 40m for Ox is daylight robbery for a supremely limited player.

Hi Eds and Reds

With Rodgers job seemingly on the line and De Boer being touted as a possible replacement, I'd just like a few opinions on if he should be judged on his record domestically or in Europe.

While I appreciate he is dominating a relatively weaker league with less competition, he doesn't seem to get his team to "punch above their weight" in Europe.

The point I'm getting at is with Liverpool he would need to take on clubs with better squads, and after our spending spree over the past few years, probably with significantly less funds.

Is he capable of doing this? If yes why do you think so and if not who do you think could achieve this and why? Let's be realistic with our options here, no Guardiola or Shanks reincarnated.

Thanks guys and girls.

I am more worried if a big name comes in ask for money?
He might not fancy some of our players, you can't blame him.

De-boer is the most realistic one for now.

2.) De Boer is a very smart man as he was a great player. He knew he wasn`t ready for the job when we came calling 2yrs ago and honorably declined. Now he is ready and like some on here including Ed01, there is the concern that he has dominated a poor league. In the end, he seems to fit the bill based on the framework the owners want to put in place. Can he hack it? We will have to wait and find out if in fact he is hired. I do know this, he has a lot more experience and has won more in his short career than BR has.

Hi Ed001, a question if I may. Reading your recent comments it is obvious you aren't happy with Rodgers. What would your course of action be over the managerial situation?

Would you try and replace him now? (If so, who might realistically be available?) Would you force coaching and managerial assistance? Would you give him the season and re asses?

I, like most other Liverpool fans have been appalled by our level of football this season, but not having much information available I am unsure if there are better options available to us in terms of managers.

Do you know why FSG (as they were at the time) went for Rodgers without a DOF?

RedHerring

{Ed001's Note - I would prefer to keep him and just give him the help he needs, unfortunately his arrogance is such that he refuses to accept any such help. So for me, it leaves just one alternative, sadly, he has to fix things quickly or go before the January window. He has had enough time to assess things, he simply isn't living up to his own mouth's promises. Time to realise that he is so busy talking about what he can do, that he hasn't actually the time to do it.

For me, there is only one realistic alternative, though I would love Bielsa or Klopp, it has to be Frank De Boer. I just don't see anyone else out there with any kind of record to suggest themselves for the role.

As for why no DoF, because all their choices, that were willing to take the job, refused a DoF. De Boer said he wasn't ready for the job, he would have taken it with a DoF, Rodgers and Martinez both were only interested if there was no DoF. So it was decided, based on the promises he made, to give Rodgers the chance to prove himself without one.}

1.) BR will never adit he's wrong, an that's were the problem lies.
great/good manangers see were they go wrong and correct it.
He just falls further and further up his own arse.

2.) 05 Nov 2014 13:56:24
BR's arrogance will cost him his job. What had he achieved in the game before becoming LFC manager? One top flight season with Swansea and he thinks he knows everything. Last season is looking more like a flash in the pan with very passing game, Ed002 was right about the job coming too soon for BR. He should have stayed at Swansea for a couple of seasons and built his own team there before being given such a huge job involving lots of money.

3.) 05 Nov 2014 14:33:56
Personally I think it was a very honest assessment by FDB stating he was not ready. I would rather that the blind faith in yourself regardless of ability.
I have no problem with BR but agreed he needs help, firstly a defensive coach. Loren etc were decent defenders before they came and it can't just be expectation that is effecting their performances in a red shirt.
If FSG are unhappy with the situation and results they could force coaches or DOF on Rodgers, then he would probably walk away without the need to sack him.
Personally we can see it's not working so BR needs to accept help, or perhaps time to try to get FDB to take over with or without DOF

4.) Agree with all oster here. He ether needs to change, get help or prove himself. if neither of these are attainable then as much as I would hate it, he will need to go.

Hi Eds

Thanks for all the effort you put in on a daily basis.

I have a question for Ed02 specifically.

I understand and appreciate that you do not want to discuss finances, I am however very curious about the difference in value Liverpool and Basel currently have over Salah. Is this something one would be able to find out with some digging or is this information only acquirable by those with contacts in the right places?

Then lastly without any figures mentioned, based on what you have seen in the past, do you believe a deal may still be struck in January or is another player (no names) likely to be pursued?

Apologies if this comes across as more of the same, I have tried to be specific with the information I am after without asking you to put yourself up for abuse (I hope).

Keep well and all the best for 2014 to all

RedHerring

{Ed002's Note - I have no interest in discussing finances, nor any issues that cause the fans to behave like mindless morons - Salah is clearly one. I tried to explain what had happened and got vile abuse because I failed to agree with Macca. He is off the list for discussion.}

1.) 16 Jan 2014 22:05:59
Thanks Ed

Appreciate your response and fully understand your stance.

It is sad that abuse is thrown around for an honest opinion.

Absolutely nothing against Macca, I look out for his posts as I believe he does get good information (no one can be correct 100% of the time), but if it is not obvious by now that Salah is not a "done deal" then there is just no hope for the aforementioned mindless ones.

A big thank you to all the eds who put themselves up for abuse regardless of what they say. Not many of us would put ourselves in such a lose lose situation, evident by the fact that none of us have.

Perhaps he would be considered as a replacement for Can, considering we were planning on bringing in Keita and keeping Can. I also have not seen much of him, so perhaps someone with more insight could let us know what kind of player he is?

RedHerring

{Ed002's Note - He is not a replacement for Can. Liverpool saw him as an option for Keita. Other sides are keen - including Juventus, who want Can as well.}

Surely if we just contacted the club we wish to buy from first and placed a bid they, or the agent would then inform the player of our bid and if the player was so keen to join us as many say VVD is then we could move along with some civil negotiations. Whereas our current method of doing things achieves the same result of the player knowing of our interest but gets the selling clubs back up, resulting in them telling us to pay over the odds or get bent. This just seems like sheer stupidity to me.

This has to be an Ed's kryptonite. Random name to replace a player we need not replace. Swap deal including another random name you admittedly know nothing about. Just why?

Ed, they're obviously all smoke screens for a glorious Shelvey return.

Ed02, I was wondering if you might be inclined to give some insight as to what would make a club show an interest in a player and then drop it only 6 months later?

It seems odd that 6 months ago we were ready to buy a player and now no longer want to? Have other preferred targets become available?

RedHerring

{Ed002's Note - Price is always a driver, the desire of a player to move, interest in other players (particularly given the summer has a lot more options available). Liverpool has been looking to other options - they might end up going for Konoplyanka again.}

I agree that no player is bigger than the club. However we have shown that we have not prepared for Coutinho leaving even though we have had the time to do so. Regarding his lack of consistency, he is still a relatively young player a couple of years away from his prime and he seems to gain more consistency each season. That said I agree we should not keep an unhappy player but if he can be swayed to stay and give his all then I feel he will be invaluable to us this season.

Be sure to look out for any irregular blinking patterns during interviews. Could be a code for who we will be selling and buying over the next five windows.
