Hi Eds
I've read that the South American u20 tournament starts today. Are you aware of any players that might interest Liverpool or come to ?the EPL

{Ed002's Note - People have gotten very upset over South American youngsters being discussed in the past. As such we avoid such discussion. If you want to keep an eye on one player, Jaime Baez of Uruguay. Jaime Baez has an offer on the table from Ajax and he is a player that Liverpool first showed an interest in during 2012 - when there were several South American youngsters being tracked by the club. A work permit would be an issue but interest may still be there from Liverpool. Valencia and Palermo have also shown some interest this season.

He won't be moving to Liverpool and I am not certain he is at the tournament, but Lanzini of Argentina is a player that Caniggia pushed Liverpool to buy a couple of years ago - he has since moved to the Middle East - but certainly a player who will become well known.}

1.) 14 Jan 2015 15:44:21
Lanzini is in the Argentina squad.

2.) 14 Jan 2015 16:57:28
Watch the Aruba game tonight, they have a few players we could probably afford right now.

3.) 14 Jan 2015 17:11:13
Like the look of Jaime Baez on youtube. Almost impossible to gauge properly though.

4.) 14 Jan 2015 22:44:41
Jaime Baez has already been dubbed 'The new Luis Suarez' which just piles pressure on the kid and will probably hinder his development

Morning Eds
Sorry if this has been asked before but as Mignolet had another poor display last night would you give Brad Jones a couple of games? Also I've not seen anything in the press recently about a replacement/backup keeper. Can you provide an update?

{Ed001's Note - as far as I can find out, right now there is no plan to buy a keeper in January, but then the club are working towards an overhaul of the transfers and who makes the decisions. So there is no clear idea of who is going to be making a decision in January. That is if any players are even brought in at all, which is a very distinct possibility.

Personally I would give Ward or one of the other youth prospects a go, tell them they have nothing to lose and just go out their and play their game. Jones is not good enough, Mignolet is so bad he is looking like he is on the take, so why not see if one of the kids just might turn out to be something special given the chance? What do we have to lose? We either have one of two dodgy senior keepers, who struggle to catch cold, or a kid who might well be as bad, but couldn't possibly be any worse.}

1.) Completely agree with ed001, we've nothing to lose in giving Ward a game, in Mignolet and Jones we have the worst keepers in the premier league, which is simply unacceptable.

{Ed002's Note - This is why I feel sorry for the Liverpool players when the club has so called "supporters" like you. For years Liverpool fans had a good reputation, were seen to be knowledgeable and were well respected. That has all long gone with statements like this about Brad Jones being, with MIgnolet, the "worst keepers in the premier league". How many times has Jones played in the EPL this season? And how many last season? And how many the season before that? These are the sorts of posts that the players should see so that matters can be put in context.}

2.) 27 Nov 2014 11:14:19
Spot on Ed001!
"a kid who might well be as bad, but couldn't possibly be any worse."
Ibe for Markovic, Rossiter for Allen, Sinclair/Yesil for Balo.

If you don't give the youth a chance when the experienced players are letting us down, they will just leave - like Suso et al.

And to Ed002, except for that Italian lad who used to be at Arsenal, can you point out a keeper in worse form than Mignolet? I honestly can't, and if Jones isn't deemed good enough to get a game now I can only assume he never will. Has he ever been a number one 'keeper?

3.) 27 Nov 2014 13:56:28
To be fair Ed002 they are pretty poor keepers and better judges than me have said so as well (Souness, Carragher, Neville, Keown and Ed001, in fact Carragher said last night that there was no point putting Jones in place of Mignolet for that very same reason as we would still be conceding sloppy goals), every time Jones has played in the first team he has also made the same kinds of mistakes as Mignolet in terms of poor handling, poor at collecting crosses, poor distribution and positioning, which are fundamental skills for a keeper (I remember the cup game at Oldham that he played in and the mistake he made which cost the game was a bread and butter save that the keeper should be making).

I would happily give the young lad Ward a game at the moment as something has to change and he really couldn't do any worse than the other two keepers.

I genuinely think that they are two of the worst keepers in the premier league and nothing I have seen can convince me otherwise, this isn't an adverse inference on them as people, just as professional footballers, they aren't very good.

{Ed002's Note - Get down to the ground and daub abuse on the outside - force them out - see if Carragher will join your quest. If not perhaps a small fire at the stadium - show the owners you mean business. I have no idea what Carragher said last night, but if he has taken to saying such things about Jones, it is pitiful. But then again you are all watching him on Mt Murdoch's Sky.}

4.) I've backed Mignolet numerous times but no more he's lacking in confidence as all the players are.

5.) Perhaps we should start looking at what sort of goalkeeping coach we have.

6.) Thanks for a great site though - I do genuinely love it.

7.) 02 Dec 2014 17:56:07
Ed002, I fully understand why you think that that fellas response wasn't showing fantastic support but he's agreed with Ed01. I don't think it's fair to have such a pop at him and ignore the fact that Ed01 said it 1st.

We'd all much rather be in a position were we could all throw our full support behind the team like the good old days (and I do every match - i don't howl from the stands. ) but the team isn't performing as it should and while abusing the players won't help their confidence we're entitled to voice our reasonable opinions without being mocked for it.

{Ed002's Note - You can voice whatever opinion you want and I will mock you as the whim takes me.}

There is a story in the Mirror today saying that Rafa Benitez may leave Napoli in the summer and return to the Wirral and they are giving it the "2+2=4" and saying he could replace Rodgers. Now its probably bull but I just wondered who would have Rafa back. Yes he could negative at times but we also had one of the best midfields in Europe in 2005 when he was manager and I always wondered what he could with decent backing from the current owners which is something I believe he didn't get with Hicks & Gillet.
So Ed(s)/everyone else would you have him back?

{Ed001's Note - there are a few people talking about this, I would be very surprised as last I heard he was looking to sign a new contract with Napoli, who were also looking to offer him one. While he was beloved at Liverpool as a person, there are still a lot who remember his politicking behind the scenes and his massive spending on players each season. It would be a huge sea change in the feeling there if Rafa was brought back. De Boer still seems the favourite, from what I can find out.

As for whether I would have Rafa back, for the club's sake not as the manager. If it is as a DoF, that I would also have reservations over. For the city though, his return would be a boost, as he and Montse are very heavily involved in working for local charities etc.}

1.) Edd I would love him back I see wat u say but look at the deals he had set up for people villa silva alves even Ronaldo and bale but his hands were tied by the owners. I think he tried to fight the last owners realising wat they were doing to the club it was him trying to rid of us of the owners. rick parry buying players on his own accord. I think under these owners he would be an excellent choice cheers

2.) 18 Nov 2014 10:06:27
Imo I think he will manage man city next and take on his nemesis mourinho with equal backing money wise to compete.he could still live in the Wirral and I'm sure city want a manager capable of taking them to cl glory.

3.) Any chance of rodgers getting the sack then

{Ed001's Note - of course there is a chance, his position is under review.}

4.) When you say, "from what I can find out" Ed, are those the noises coming from within the club?

Also, I was just wondering, what the players feelings towards Brendan at the moment? I'm sure they thought he was brilliant last season, however as cracks have appeared, has the general attitude changed?

{Ed001's Note - yes, that is the noises I am getting, which is why I kept bringing his name into the convo in recent weeks.

It depends on the players, a lot of them are disillusioned with him and are fed up of not getting a look in, others love him for standing by them. That is all most players care about. The ones on the outside are growing though, as he is alienating more of them, along with the club's form being poor, so no one on the outside can accept being frozen out.}

5.) 18 Nov 2014 10:28:29
Should I say nemesises mourinho and man utd.

6.) Rafa wanted Kun, but the owners wouldn'y pay the £7.5m for an untried South American teenager. So they went for the experienced European International superstar - Voronin.
As Mike says - Villa and Silva would have come here if Rafa had his way. Yeah we might have ended up bankrupt, but we wouldn't have been without CL money.

Also, Rafa never could quite break the stranglehold SAF had on the league (and most of the managers). I would love to see him back in the EPL now the wicked ol' witch has gone!

7.) Ed001 - "De Boer still seems the favourite" - for what? To replace BR, to become DoF, or something else.

{Ed001's Note - replace.}

8.) 18 Nov 2014 12:30:26
Well, at least there is now precedence has been set by a 'big' club. Inter Milan sacked there manager due to a record of P.11 W.4 D.4 L.3 , Brendon W.4 D.2 L.5.

Love to see Rafa back or anyone else who doesn't have a philosophy, but understands the players he has and the skills the have and plays them accordingly. Lovren can't turn bad overnight, but can be expected to play a still he's not comfortable with and lose 'confidence' (for Lovren read, Skrtel, Mignolet, Lallana, Balotelli, Moreno)

9.) I too have seen these rumors and hope they are not true. As I remember, Rafa's greatest achievement was winning the CL with gerrard houlliers team.
After years of spending millions and letting Alonso go for Gareth Barry (who he never even got) and then panick buying Aquilani. I was no longer a Rafa Supporter.

10.) I would love to have him back - if it ever came to that.
There's a lot of talk about wanting to get rid of Alonso for Barry, but go back to that actual time.
Alonso wasn't in the best form and hadn't been for a good season-season and a half (around about the time that fat Frank broke his ankle).
Barry and Gerrard worked great for England at the time and you can't deny how well Barry has played.
Given the form of Alonso, He was a saleable asset (I think Juventus and Arsenal were sniffing around the £16m mark and the owners were bleeding the club dry.
The trouble is Alonso went on to have his best ever season, but the foundations for his departure had already been laid and he wanted out.
Yes Rafa tried to sell him, but in a way he was forced (unless there is more to the above story).
I never feared getting beaten when we played and you can't argue with what he achieved or how close he came.
I know they say never go back and if the owners do get rid of BR I will support whoever replaces him.
I'm just saying that I wouldn't mind it being Rafa

11.) As far as I'm concerned, the Rafa ship has sailed. He did good things while he was in charge but when he left it was best for everybody at the time, it was Rafa who lost our champions league status and I still can't forgive him for driving Alonso out in pursuit of Gareth Barry. Rogers problem is that he is is dog turd in the transfer market. He had a great starting 11 last season and instead of keeping it intact as best he could and replacing Suarez with a world class striker and building on that with one or two quality players capable of challenging for a first team spot, he bought in bulk and upset the harmony of the team and he has no idea what his strongest 11 is now. He also seems to completely neglect defence in training.

12.) Rafa Benitez, working for supportive owners, would be brilliant. He is light years ahead of Rodgers tactically. If you are playing a better team than you, to win you either have to be lucky or have a plan prepared to counter them. We would never be getting beat 3 - 0 at home by Real Madrid under Rafa.

Rafa knows how to spot a player and we would be signing players a class above the average ones we recruit now. Most of his signings that didn't come off were when he had to go for 2nd or 3rd choices because H & G wouldn't stump up the money.

I've heard quite a few on here slagging off Rafa. They must have short memories - we played in 2 Champions League Finals, winning one, plus numerous semi and quarter finals. Now we are lucky to get in it. Last season Suarez took us into the Champions League and this season Rodgers is marching us straight back out again.

Bring Rafa back to finish the job that was interrupted by the sharks Hicks and Gillet. He was made for Liverpool and loves the club, unlike playboy Rodgers, who thinks he is using it as stepping stone to La Liga.

13.) Rafa for me. He wasn't given cash or support and players bought who he didn't want. Like has been mentioned Rafa had deals agreed verbally for Villa, Ronaldo, silva and Kun. We would have won everything.

14.) I don't think anybody else would have come close to doing as good a job as Rafa did with those owners.
Like Highway says, imagine Rafa here with owners who backed him and had the same level of ambition that he has.
Rafa got bitter towards the end, too many fights. I think the club is stronger now.
Alonso came in for £8-10m, Rafa wanted to sell him for £30m and get an England international (and SG's best mate) on a free at a time when the owners would not invest any money into the team. I love Alonso, but I can see how it came to that.
Plus (and I can't stress how important this is) my wife used to love watching football when Rafa and his little goatee were in the dug out!

15.) Thought there was confirmation on Rafa rumour in today's Daily Mail page 71 column 5. Heading ' Rafa To return for New Year '. Only to read it referred to tennis.

16.) De Boer any day.

18 Aug 2014 08:57:20
We've all seen and read rumours about strikers were interested in ie Falcao, Cavani and Lavezzi (which personally I hope we don't get as I think they'd just be here for a payday). Do you think Bony is our preferred target? or would you prefer someone else ie Lacazette, Balotelli, Martinez. Would be interested to know who would like us to buy

{Ed002's Note - Lacazette was of interest but everyone has moved on. Lavezzi will leave PSG this week and again Liverpool has enquired after the player - but his preference is for Italy if a deal can be made. Falcao wishes a move to Real Madrid and I suspect that something can still be done there - although there is significant interest from elsewhere now. Cavani does not need to be sold to fund Di Maria but would need to be sold if PSG could persuade Chelsea to sell them Oscar - but Chelsea rejected an offer last Thursday. Macca has mentioned interest in Bony and Balotelli - I have commented on both which you can find by using the search engine. Jackson Martinez has not been mentioned for a while and after a summer trying to complete a move to Valencia might well still be available.}

1.) Lfc should chase jackson martinez instead falcao.

2.) 18 Aug 2014 10:25:37
Who out of these if you could pick would you prefer Ed please? Who is more probable? ( I realise that's a bad question )

{Ed002's Note - I am not going to get in to the "more probable". I have explained before that the route I personally thought would suit Liverpool best and was completely viable and affordable to bring in two forwards players to improve on last year.

Pedro Rodriguez would bring a wealth of experience, including vital Champions League experience. I could see he could work around the likes of Sturridge without disrupting the team - he can see space to run at and Liverpool have players like Coutinho who can put the ball in that space. He can naturally score goals. I don't want to get in to anything about "replacing" Suarez but Pedro, to me, would have improved Liverpool this season.

The second player is Klaas-Jan Huntelaar - he wants another challenge so has the hunger. He knows that at his age he will not be starting every game. Vast experience across the major European leagues, internationally and in European competition - goals again, level-headed, zero maintenance - I think he would have been the second great buy.}

3.) Perhaps flogging a dead horse but would Shaqiri, Firmino or Depay be viable options? All can play as wingers/striker.

{Ed002's Note - Try the search function.}

4.) All this talk of a "marquee" striker signing, do we really need to pay huge wages to Falco or a huge transfer fee for Cavani?
Bony would be good option as he offers something different to Sturridge, Ballotelli on loan makes a bit of sense, more so than E'to, Reus may be the best option if his release clause is to be believed, not an out and out striker but could play there or part of interchangeable front 2/3

{Ed002's Note - Ignore talk about "release clauses".}

5.) The reason why Bony deal hasn't been wrapped up yet is because he'll be gone for over a month during African Nations Cup 2015 from early January to late February. The whole idea behind BR wanting a second striker is that depending on just 2 strikers (remember 2012-13) is very dangerous. The club has a lot of belief in Origi who will be coming in next year. So basically they are contemplating with the idea of trying to wrap a loan deal with either Balloteli or Falcao having the knowledge that Origi is scheduled to shoulder striking responsibilities next year.

6.) 18 Aug 2014 11:59:58
This significant interest in falcao. Where is it from ed?

{Ed002's Note - Juventus.}

7.) Sorry if I have missed something ED but is there a reason why we could not look at Pedro now? Or, is he just not even under consideration by the club?

{Ed002's Note - The club has shown no interest in him this summer and have run around spending money elsewhere.}

8.) I'd be made up if we got huntelaar and konoplyanka. Huntelaar would come in knowing and accepting the role expected.

9.) Might just be in our best interest to get Cavani, although I don't particulary rate the player. If we get Cavani, then PSG will have funds for Di Maria, so he won't go to the mancs. Worth considering for mr Ayre and mr Rodgers I think. Strengthening us somewhat, and in the process weakening our competition. Mr Wenger has done this a couple of times, always seamed like a clever move to me.

{Ed002's Note - So £110M or so to perhaps ensure another player doesn't move somewhere. Interesting. PSG have other players to sell in their pursuit of Di Maria - want to buy Rabiot, Pastore and Lavezzi as well?}

10.) But besides getting a helluva player in Sanchez, Wenger made sure we didn't get him, and that Barca got some cash towards Suarez. Pretty clever, and worth paying over the odds, if you can weaken rivals in the process. Getting Lavezzi would bring the same kind of side benefeits, by the way.

07 Aug 2014 11:56:33
Eds. I've read that Diego Lopez is being forced out of Real Madrid and could be available on a freebie. Have we shown any interest?

{Ed001's Note - no.}

Hi Eds. I've seen rumours that we we were looking at jean michael seri. As his move to Barcelona seems to be off and we are still looking to bolster midfield would he be an option if we can't get Thomas Lemar?

{Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware.}

Melissa reddy reporting that keita has passed medical and signed 5yr contract from July 1st 2018.

1.) 28 Aug 2017 18:18:06
Sell coutinho and fsg could still not spend that much this transfer window.

2.) 28 Aug 2017 18:30:58
I can't tell if you're saying that as a good thing or a bad thing Daniel?

Personally I think that losing a player who no longer wants to play for us and buying Salah, Robertson, Solanke, VVD, Lemar and getting Keita sorted for next year, all while ending up with a net spend of a lot less than our rivals is actually an exceptional summer of transfers.

3.) 28 Aug 2017 18:35:28
What's your point Daniel?

4.) 28 Aug 2017 21:06:39
Don't know what you are trying to say there, Daniel so pls, elaborate.

27 Aug 2017 17:33:17
Anyone still want to see AOC at Liverpool? Eds25 is right he's average at best.

09 Jul 2016 13:41:08
Has anyone got an update in whether ibe has agreedto join Bournemouth. Also question for eds. If u were the chairman of a football club how would you leave an offer on the table for a player to accept it.

Seem to remember we left an offer open to lee bowyer for approx 5 days beforewe rremoved it.

{Ed002's Note - Ibe knows he is not wanted and will have to think about what he wishes to do but both clubs are happy to let it happen. I know nothing of Lee Bowyer but clubs make offers to clubs for players.}

1.) 09 Jul 2016 16:37:25
Not much to know about Lee Bowyer ed. over hyped and under achieved. True colours came out with the influence of alcohol.
A complete tool.

2.) 09 Jul 2016 17:18:25
A friend of mine bought me a weird drink once, I asked him what it was called.
'The Lee Bowyer' he said.
'Whys that? ' I remarked
'Because it's best friend for 60/ 70 minutes and then it just turns on you'

Would like to wish rafa all the best at Newcastle as its nice to see him back in the english game and hope he does well. While i didn't agree with everything he did he still gave us Istanbul and I for one am very grateful he did. Possibly my best footballing night.

1.) 25 May 2016 20:14:47
Good luck to Rafa at Newcastle.

2.) 25 May 2016 22:44:49
Indeed. Think he's a brave man because the championship is a totally different league.
Hopefully he'll get them back up first time of asking.

3.) 25 May 2016 23:47:30
If Rafa wins something at Newcastle he will become a Geordie diety. 😄
Good luck Rafa 😎.

So we can;t sign Keita so we are going for 2nd or 3rd best are we? what's the point when we've got Henderson, Crujic, Milner, Can, Wijnaldum and Ejaria looking for places in midfield. Must be better to use what we currently have and then hopefully get our number 1 target next year. Grujic has to get his opportunities to keep his WP. As the Eds has said before we can't just keep adding and adding players.

Football fans are fickle. When he scores a couple of goals it will be forgotten. let's hope he stays, plays well and has a good season. Enjoy the memories and wish he all the best as it will all kick off again next summer and he will probably go. If it happens then just hope he goes early so we have time to get the replacement in and upto speed.

He'll have a bad back until Sept 1st after which he'll be fully fit at Barcelona or sulking in Melwood. If its the latter he's only doing himself harm as he needs to play to be in the Brazil squad for the WC next year.

{Ed002's Note - It is nothing whatsoever to do with the World Cup. It matters not one iota.}
