Have to say I have more of an issue with the soft penalty decision rather than the Holgate card or no card. I suspect that the embarrassment of his rather cowardly shove being seen by millions of people will be enough of a punishment for Holgate. Let's hope the earful he got from Bobby was no more than he deserved. Feeling far more confident about the City match with VVD in defence, that's for sure.

Why do you have a problem with the penalty, Red48? To me, it was not a pen BUT seeing the Hypocrite in Chief a. k. a Everton manager eat some serious crow is enough for me.

Nah I don't like it BRover I think the game encourages player to "earn" a penalty and it's grim. The penalty against us against the bitters was never a penalty and was "earned@ and I thought our was one exactly the same: minimal contact, a player going to ground easily and a referee happily obliging - I would have preferred, in both games, for the penalties not to be given because I simply think neither of them were justified. Players should not be rewarded for going down under the very faintest of touches, it is a big problem in the game. We personally benefited yesterday but can easily be on the receiving end in other fixtures and, at certain times, it will ruin the game. I hope they find a way of preventing it as the amount of soft decisions seems to be ever increasing.

Well, I'd rather win a match on merit or at least through a legitimate goal than a pen that never was, or worse, cheating as well. But you're right, BRover, Allardyce is a pompous idiot sometimes so it's good to see him stuffed occasionally.

Hi Eds, great site, thank you for all the interesting insight and info. With reference to the 'hope we meet Barcelona and. Blah blah blah' and, indeed, a lot of bloody nonsense posted; perhaps a juvenile banter section is required? As a football fan, I enjoy, perhaps acknowledge would be a better term, good football. If that's United, Barcelona or whoever, so be it. Even if it's painful. I just hope my team are the best on the day.

{Ed002's Note - We used to have The Sandbox - perhaps we should bring it back.}

I propose a "Kiddie's Corner". :-)

I think that would be my favorite section just for seeing some of the eds replies.

Yes, markp08, everyone is entitled to an opinion. The filtering question of 'Am I entitled to voice this opinion? ' is at the heart of the modern digital malaise. 'Have I done enough research? Have I looked at all the data? Discussed it with someone I trust? Will this be likely to do more harm than good? ' are all questions that are increasingly rarely asked. Even the more basic 'Is this likely to make me look like a tit? ' can be useful sometimes.

Salah's first thought is mostly 'how can I score? '. Firmino's first thought is mostly 'how can we score? '. Only very occasionally does this matter to me.

I agree with you Ed025, Souness would have to modify his game big time. However, after Salah went off in the CL final one of my first thoughts was I wish we'd have had him on the pitch just to see his reaction to Ramos. If he'd managed to stay on the pitch, his absolute desire to win may have made a difference too.
