My observations on Liverpool - Bolton game

1) Finally we came from behind and won a game. What more, we scored in the added time! Oh, how I missed the feeling.

2) We tried to score the perfect goal much too often to my liking. To walk in the net works from time to time only. I have been screaming for a long time for someone to hit it hard and true. Can can centrally do it! What a rocket. More of the same in the next game please!

3) Markovic. I like the boy but I think his performance dropped a little bit in the last few games. He was caught ball - watching, especially in the first half. I want more. hmm. well. INTENSITY from his game, more aggression to close down players and a better final ball but that will come in time I hope. I think he needs more runners in front of him, fully fit Daniel will help to up his performance for sure.

4) I loved when Sterling said that he saw the gap between the keeper's legs and placed the ball there :) In truth he was watching the ball all the way down, nice try Raheem! :)

4) Brendan, never pair Allen with Gerrard in midfield again! It does not work and never will!

5) In the first half I asked myself a question: do Liverpool want to win that game at all?

6) Nice move from Rodgers to get Can playing further up later on! This is where he belongs. I just hope that next season he will play there more often. Very impressed with him!

7) Did you see that Coutinho face expression when he scored? Was he nearly crying? Was it just a relief? I don't know. What I know is that he cares and that is hugely important to me.

8) Out of all players I think Coutinho, Henderson, Can, Skrtel and Sturridge are the players who want to play for Liverpool the most and will be here for many years. Obviously I wish others to stay with us, too: Sakho, Sterling, Moreno, Markovic, LUCAS to name a few.

9) Daniel Sturridge needs much more time to get his sharpness back, it showed last night. But his presence changes the rhythm of out play drastically, he improves others around him as well.

10) Mignolet. His confidence is improving. What I like about his game now is that he is becoming a sweeper-keeper we all longed for. He punches the ball well and does not try to catch it if in doubt. Basically his decision making is much better than before. He seems to be a nice, quiet bloke and clearly he is learning to be more vocal on the pitch. There were moments (not in this game only) that I went: who the hell is screaming that loud? It was him most of the times. Believe me, it is very difficult to become more vocal and dominant if you are a quiet man like him and me. It requires a change in your personality (at least when needed) and constant conversations with your brain to be able to do that. It took me some time in the Army to learn to shout out orders, especially when the artillery made some of the privates deaf. Now I shout at my kids at will and I certainly did not loose that ability :). So Simon - onwards and upwards from now on!!

Overall I am very please that we concede less and score more!!

1.) I agree Can should be played in midfield, I think he will be Gerrards replacement. . in time.

I don't see how anyone can look at our defense and say that Skrtel gives us anything that Sakho doesn't equal and exceed

Ed2, you said earlier "Rodgers commitments about winning the EPL and challenging for the Champions League are far from the truth"

1) Why is that? Is it because he does not care anymore? If that is a case then maybe he believes his time is running out with us and expects to be sacked or wants to quit and move to Spain sooner rather than later?

2) What are BR relations with the owners right now? Is he on the borrowed time? I think they try to stay away from getting involved in his football coaching methods but in my opinion they have to act quickly to sort this mess out before it is too late. And I am not talking about sacking him, it is more to do with insisting on someone who would look at things from a different perspective (but maybe he is too stubborn to listen?)

I would appreciate your view on that, thank you.

{Ed002's Note - (1) It won't be for the lack of caring, it is the outcome of poor decision making in the transfer market, results not being good enough etc.. His statement about wanting to manage in Spain this week was at the least badly times but in my view just stupid. (2) I don't know what the relationship is right now and JWH avoids discussion about Liverpool in interviews as much as he can. They will no doubt be considering how to turn things around as there are very serious financial implications.}

I am 38 and my memory usually serves me well. What I remember from some posts sent by fans are questions regarding the reported clause in Johnson's contract (he has to play when fit). I also remember the answers by Eds. Ed1 once said that he believes there was such a close but he thinks that it has been removed when he has signed a new contract and that he would find out more. Ed2 seemed to ridicule those questions. What I don't remember, however, is the straight and clear answer to those questions: yes, no or I don't know. Look, BR has rotated all of our players at some point, maybe apart from Steve G, he seems to be untouchable when fit. I just don't get it why BR would ALWAYS stick to Johnson, if there was no such a clause. He is a clever manager, he sees things and surely would have dropped him at some point in the past. Conspiracy theory? No, just pure logic. Unless memory fails me, hence the questions to you Eds and fellow Reds:

1) Do such clauses exist in football, if so are there rare or common?
2) Do you remember Johnson being ever dropped when fit?
3) Do you remember him being rested (due to the squad rotation) when fit?
4) Do you remember any Liverpool player that played every game when fit regardless the form, apart from the obvious ones - Suarez, Torres maybe? Steve G?

Just want to add how grateful I am for the Eds for their work and I never believe in stories and rumours unless they are confirmed by them. But it seems that they dodge that question a little bit where a clear answer would be much appreciated: yes, no or I don't know.

{Ed001's Note - yes, no, no, no. I do think the clause must have been left in and he only signed a contract extension, not a fresh contract like I had assumed. No manager would keep picking him if they didn't have to!}

I don't know why people are so negative about the rumour of Eto coming to our club. First of all it says that he has been looked at, considered. It does not mean that he will be signed!. Brendan has insisted numerous times that he will not spend money just for the sake of spending!. Even if Eto joins us then it would be because of different reasons to it. Maybe the strikers we targeted will be available in the next transfer windows? Maybe, for instance, Bony who is contracted to Swansea for the next 3 years, will be cheaper next year? Maybe Origi is considered to be THAT striker when he returns next year?. Maybe Sterling or Markowic will be used in that role in case Sturridge is injured? Maybe Brendan came to conclusion that Lambert will provide enough quality cover after he scored two goals last night in the friendly? We just don't know! Why don't you relax and let our manager and the owners do their stuff? I am very happy that there is a clear vision to what we do and the quality football we play is there for everybody to see! Eto would provide a short term solution only but how many players would want to play a third fiddle behind Daniel and Ricky assuming that we will play with one striker most of the times? I don't believe in that Eto rumour but if it happens then wait till you have the reason to grumble at least! Till then say no more of the negative stuff.

PolishRed

{Ed001's Note - I am sorry but anyone that thinks signing Eto'o would not be a negative thing needs help! We don't need him. End of. He is not good enough, costs too much and would just stop a kid getting a chance. Good job the papers are full of crap and the only reason there were any contacts is because he has been offered to every club in Europe and a fair few outside of Europe too.}

There are rumours that Atletico can buy back Manquillo if he does well at Liverpool. Can you believe it? I certainly don't! Do you think that our club would agree on such a deal? Even if we did agreed on such a deal then I have a feeling that the owners and Brendan will find the way to go around such a deal and sign him permanently if they wish to. Just trust them, I am pretty sure that we will not give him back to Spain if he is good enough for us, we will not be that stupid. Ok, we might not get everything right here and there but I will not loose my sleep over this deal for sure.

PolishRed

{Ed008's Note - Barcelona have a similar deal with Porto with the loan of Tello aswell, it's a strange deal but it does benefit both teams in a way.

Ed002, do you know, by any chance, what is his preference? I mean would he like to stay here or is he pushing for a move? Thank you in advance.

PolishRed

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea but suspect he wants to look at his options. All we know is that they have asked for provisions in the contract and Liverpool won't agree - and I suspect there is a money consideration as well.}
