Question for the Ed's - Reviewing the spend of some clubs in particular Man City who have recently been under review for FFP - how can they afford to spend so much in the transfer window?

{Ed002's Note - Manchester City (a) have a larger income than the likes of Liverpool, and (b) whilst working within the rules are making use of some pretty extreme sponsorship that comes via their owner's business interests.

This is seen as an issue by UEFA and the reason there have been efforts over the past two years or so to agree a sponsorship cap. UEFA are happy for the clubs that meeting (now twice a year) to come up with a proposal, but so far - and as recently as the meeting last week, they have failed to agree a figure. UEFA are aware that taking the matter to the European Club Association will not help them. Eventually they will come up with a cap themselves and that will be it. A similar issue is being discussed about capping TV and media income for FFP.

So right now Manchester City may need to do something to addfress the money for this season (they have until June 30). Liverpool certainly need to do something.}

Out of interest eds, when you say Man City have a larger income than the likes of Liverpool, is that separate to the owners wealth and the sponsorship you mention in your second point. Obviously their match day income is greater than ours with the bigger and more modern stadium. We keep hearing that our income revenues have increased significantly under fsg (and even H&G). Are they generating more shirt sales and sponsorship from out side of the Emirates than us? I do worry with our lack of success and star players we are going to struggle in this field. Only in Jamaica this year the locals knew of us due to sterling and sturridge (to a lesser extent)

Thanks for that. Typically what can the clubs do, especially Liverpool, between now and June 30 aside from use current revenue generating activities to fix the problem? Would it be things like re naming / sponsoring a Stand at Anfield etc. or are they just banking on the new TV deal to help balance things out?

{Ed002's Note - No, they have to sell players in January or those on loan to buy deals and options before June 30. The new TV money is in 2017.}

I am sure most here would greatly appreciate you doing a podcast on football finances and Liverpool's in particular Ed002. Your knowledge on these matters has already taught us a lot. Yeah, do a podcast please. You can go search for this stuff through the posts but it often takes a very long time to get through before you find what you want. If you lay it all down in a podcast then that would be superb.
