Afternoon Ed001,
I understand not much business is done in January but have we contacted representatives of any players we are interested in ahead of the summer? If so is there any interesting names we haven't been linked with in the media already? I really do hope Klopp gets the funds this summer to leave good foundations before he leaves in the future, thanks as always.

Eds just wondering if we are looking at ibrahimovic if we sell benteke at the end of the season as he has said previously he would like to work under Klopp at Dortmund and now he's strongly linked to premier league clubs as he's a free agent this summer I understand the wage demands maybe an issue but you cannot deny his quality maybe he might join us because of Klopp? Ibrahimovic? Fans are seriously pitching him as a replacement for Benteke?
Ask yourself: why has Benteke failed?
He does not fit our style of attack.
And neither does Ibrahimovic.
Besides that, he's too old and past his prime for an FSG investment.
We need a player with pace, power, creative/ intelligent movement, and a nose for the goal, but can also drop deep and play intricate build up.
Essentially, Daniel Sturridge, but I suppose younger and more often fit.
My recommendation to Klopp in the summer, is to sign a player with all of those traits, but who can play wing, CF, or AM, depending on need.
Teixeira, in fact, was a great target because he has all of those traits, and has played as a winger, AM, and can also play up top.

Hello Eds just wondering you opinion on the strength of the team after the signings so far? Is there any postions you think the club should still improve? I know left back is an issue but chilwell is pretty nailed on, hopefully he can be good enough. Do you think Matip and Karius will fix things at the back? Our defence of set pieces is beyond shambolic.
{Ed001's Note - apart from left back, I am happy with the squad for next season, it is more about getting rid of some and creating space to improve now.}

Left back main problem. I'm glad we've began to improve though because that last squad wasn't good enough.
I think we'll get 2/ 3 decent signings in. Teams around us will only get better. Need to improve A LOT.

Lb and cm.
Coric would be a luxury or insurance for when/ if coutinho leaves.
We definatly need another cm and crucially as lb.
Allen, Milner just won't do there and with hendersons injury history last year we need to protect him and ourselves and not have to rely on him for what could be 45/ 50 games next year if we get to finals.
Zielinksi/ dahoud and chilwell, don't want hector myself now watching him a few times, can see him just getting eaten up in the prwm, we should of gone for guerr his delievery is scary.

Left-back. Midfield is a tricky one. Henderson is a must start in my opinion but who to play with him is tricky. Lucas is clearly a squad player now (and a very good one) if he stays. Grujic will get games as ed's have suggested but this is a big step up for him. Emre Can worries me the most, has good moments but many poor ones too - I'm not sure he is either disciplined enough or intelligent enough to be a starter, I was unimpressed by him last season. If we had European football I'd say maybe buy another cm but, as it is its probably unnecessary this season.

Is Grujic actually being considered for a starting place this season? If so where? I can't see how he would be infront of can and hendo? Just wondering never seen him even play before but find it hard to believe he's being promised first team football after coming from a league that isn't that competitive and only being 20?

Being promised first team Football and a starting position are very different things. I expect he will be used to rest Can or Hendo in cup games or perhaps as a substitute or in a 4-3-3 from time to time.

Zimbo, he was granted the work permit under the understanding that he would be a regular. It surprised me as well, but it likes like he will be a big part of the first team.
As Ed002 has already alluded to, he will lose his work permit if we have lied.

Lately I have paid attention to the posts regarding Chilwell and Mane who some posters think would be horrible signings.
Firstly I agree with the eds and think Chilwell deserves to been seen in red before judged and yeah maybe 7- 10 million is too much to pay for a player who hasn't much experience but joe gomez who nobody really knew about played at leftback at the start of the season and impressed us all. If he hadnt been injured so early on he could have been first choice so give chilwell a chance lads he could make the position his own like gomez who I think will go on to be great center back for us.
As for Mane yes he is going to be expensive but I would pick him over Goetze any day his talent is undeniable he has something we have been missing - PACE and premier league experience and for a winger his scoring record is very good and he's still young and will improve and If we were going to buy goetze for 30 million you all would be delighted who has barely played bayern.
I am worried about his attitude slightly as one of the the eds said he has an bad attitude and I do remember him falling out with koeman in the middle of the season I can't remember why I think he was late to a team meeting and was fined and left out the match day squad for their next game. But he still deserves a chance.

Think I'm coming round to the idea of Mane, yes at present he seems expensive but at least he fits our play. We never know how he's going to perform for us but if he does sign then he'll get my support.

Can is still learning he is only 22 and he's in the team week in week out give him the next three years like we gave henderson and we will asking ourselves why did we ever doubt him trust me the lads got a future with us.

I can see why some people are disappointed with benteke as I am too for his effort sometimes on the picth but I for one don't think he has no ability and can't be a good player for us, I don't think he is just someone that should be stuck in the box looking for a header at every attack like all the pundits say he should do, the mans got feet and hasn't got a bad touch on him and can dribble past players sometimes with ease with skill he can join in attacks. Its stupid that people aren't even giving him a chance at all he still our highest scorer and isn't half as bad as Ballotelli just give the man a chance i don't think Klopp wants him gone otherwise he wouldn't have looked at him when he was dortmond although he is leaving him out I just think he's experimenting with different playing styles till he finds the right one for next season. Sorry rant over.
