Being linked with Hakim Zyech. Any substance to that Eds?

{Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware, but these are the notes from a few months ago: "Any Everton interest sounds like old news about a Martinez target from a couple of years back. Hoffenheim and Sampdoria were disappointed with January 2016 rejections for Hakim Ziyech who chose to move to Ajax in the summer of 2016 over interest from Fenerbahce, Dortmund, CSKA Moscow, Sunderland, Swansea and Southampton. Other sides including Inter, Roma, Crystal Palace Leicester all looked to the player when he was at Twente. His agent has said that "Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs have come from England to watch my player" - who comes with a great deal of baggage - but there is nothing to substantiate that at all. Chelsea has a player on loan at Ajax, Spurs took a look at Dolberg and Liverpool, unless Coutinho is leaving, may have done the same."}

Again, this would be a good signing.

Stoneage, just saw your post about Britain. Now as much as I would like it to be correct (ie Scotland having independence from Britain) you are just wrong. Britain is England, Scotland and Wales. UK includes NI.

Still doesn't make Brendan Rogers 'Britain's best manager' though!

28 Feb 2018 21:42:10
Watching Lazio vs Ac Milan. Lucas MoM so far. Quality not great so far but Lucas head and shoulders above the rest of both teams. Love him, one of my favourite LFC players of recent times.

1.) 28 Feb 2018 21:51:29
Lucas was brilliant. One of those players people don’t appreciate until he’s gone. Brains and good on the ball.

2.) 28 Feb 2018 21:53:29
As an ex AM, Lucas' ability on the ball was always underrated.

3.) 28 Feb 2018 22:07:30
I loved him not that sure why we sold him to be honest. I suppose he is a cm of the old fashioned mould. Not the dynamic type we need at lfc under klopp an firmino etc.

4.) 01 Mar 2018 02:55:35
He was after a new challenge and, as a loyal servant of the club and an excellent ambassador on the pitch, off the pitch, in the dressing and to the community in general, the club decided (rightfully) that they would not stand in his way. I always had a great deal of respect for Lucas and he'll always be welcomed at Anfield with open arms.

5.) 01 Mar 2018 04:49:55
Lucas served our club very well for 10 years, but we sold him because he wasn't good enough any longer to help us get where Klopp wants us to be. That's not to say he was not as good as some of our other players, a few of whom should have been let go before him, but it was the right time for him to leave.
Glad to see he's having such a good season.

6.) 01 Mar 2018 04:55:08
I read a stat about most successful tackles by and EPL player since 2010 - present . Lucas topped the charts with 721.

7.) 01 Mar 2018 04:56:54
I wish that there were more players in the game like Lucas. I am glad he is getting game time at a good club - something he wouldn't have been guaranteed here. He deserves all good things that come his way. I have nothing but respect for him.

8.) 01 Mar 2018 07:29:31
After 10 years here, have there not been any moves to give him a testimonial? I’m sure he would get a good turn out and probably raise a lot of money for charity.

9.) 01 Mar 2018 08:29:23
Apparently not good enough, yet when we went through the rocky patch last season and Klopp needed a stable solid option in centre midfield and defence, who did he turn to? Lucas was plenty good enough. His brains took him where his feet couldn’t and he was probably the best tackler in the premier league.

10.) 01 Mar 2018 10:24:43
I thought he was still more than good enough to stay in the team. Delighted for him and for once I think the club acted well for a players benefit involving a transfer. That said, I can't imagine him no to getting his game for us this season. I wonder where we'd be in the league with him still here.

11.) 01 Mar 2018 11:21:52
Don't kid yourselves, he wasn't good enough. I liked him as a player, and by all accounts he is a very nice man and was great to have as a team mate, but he couldn't contribute enough to the midfield any longer. I rate him higher than Wijnaldum, and obviously Milner, but the likes of Keita are the level we require now, and Klopp clearly thinks so, too.

12.) 01 Mar 2018 12:16:28
LoweLFC, you are wrong. Lucas was NOT sold and Klopp even wanted to keep him if possible. Lucas wanted a shot at first team footie which he would not get here so instead of us trying to get a higher fee for him. we let him go for loyal services rendered and did NOTHING to stand in his way.

Now you saying he was not good enough is your opinion, based on a flawed logic. You say he contributed little or not enough to the mid field whereas when we needed a bit of steel in the back end of last season, Lucas stepped up, allowed Can and Cou to do their thing, we kept 4 clean sheets in the last 6 games, made top 4 and he had 3 assists. If that is not contribution for you then you need to re-evaluate what the meaning of that word is for you.

Also, comparing him to a younger, fitter, more attack-minded Keita is ridiculous and intellectually dishonest as one is younger that the other, they both play different positions and the one is at the very beginning of his career and the other at its twilight esp. with the injuries that has slowed him down.

{Ed002's Note - Lucas was sold for €7.5M less costs. Liverpool had already forced him to stay longer than he wanted.}

13.) 01 Mar 2018 13:43:44
Brover, your paragraph has just invalidated the entirety of your the rest of your post. Yes, we have got in a fitter, younger player with the aim of improving our midfield, exactly what we should be doing.
I have stated, twice actually, that I think Lucas is a good player - he always has been. But he wasn't good enough for us anymore.

14.) 01 Mar 2018 18:32:38
In what way, LoweLFC? Clearly you did not read the last paragraph of my post where I said that comparing a player like Keita who a) does not play the same position as Lucas. b) is younger and at the debut of his career while Lucas is at the twilight of his, is what I find a false argument. It's as if you are saying that Keita came in to replace Lucas whereas that is patently false. Such a comparison is dishonest, lacks contexte, and lacks any form of balance. And by the way, Keita was brought in to replace Can, NOT Lucas as Klopp does not play with a DM.

I'd like to say to MKS that I really enjoy your articles and posts and think that you have all the qualities and articulacy, and grammar, to realise your ambition to become a football journalist. I also think it's quite brave on a site like this to put your opinions out there, even when they sometimes fly in the face of the norm.

Without trying to be patronising and hopefully offering constructive opinion, I would suggest the following:

- don't refer to your age, it is irrelevant. You have more insight into the game than I have ( and I'm old quite lol) ;
- develop a thick skin ( as a soccer journo you're going to need it! )
- check all of your facts and don't make assumptions
- keep some of your posts shorter, when you have a killer point to make it has more impact if it's to the point!

Keep doing what you're doing and ignore those who have a go, they just don't have your skill!

Yours, a fan!

1.) 27 Feb 2018 23:44:27
Cheers mate. Appreciate the constructive feedback, and it's nice to know where my one thumbs up comes from 😉.

2.) 28 Feb 2018 00:01:19
Before I start I just want to say a good post overall litmanenfav and I'm not in anyway having a dig but my views are - I don't think he needs to change anything, it really frustrates me in a way at how people can get on at him for having an opinion? you never see him slating other people for their opinions, he respects it and may disagree but never slates them for it.

MK, the knowledge you have is incredible and has always impressed me. Your long posts/ replies are always interesting, whether I agree or not with them, I respect your opinion and your knowledge.

I have learnt a lot from MK since been on this site, knowledge is power, and he has a lot of it why can't people give respect instead of give him hassle for it? We can have banter and disagree with each other but there's no need to go far with it.

People keep bringing up MK's age, why? who really cares? people talk like because he's younger then a lot of us he doesn't know history, you kidding me? he knows probably 10 x more then me and the majority of people on here and the majority of us are older, that to me deserves respect alone.

I really enjoy your input on this site sis whether it be an article, a post or a reply, keep them coming mate, ignore the haters, who don't know how to have a simple discussion/ debate. I think the majority of people do appreciate your time and effort you put in, it's just the odd few people.

3.) 28 Feb 2018 00:37:45
I agree with a lot of this. im also with the opinion that a lot of the thumbs down are just because its funny to be belligerent sometimes :) . All in all keep it up la.

4.) 28 Feb 2018 00:41:47
I didn't see the thread, but would just like to say I genuinely enjoy your posts and articles MKS. Keep the head up mate.

5.) 28 Feb 2018 01:55:12
MKS, Salah, can I be your sister too?

MKS gives it all to this site. Not only have you mentioned your age, over the last few years I've noted your first and last name, town of birth (Lincolnshire I believe? ), university, profession, last two jobs, last two girlfriends' nationality, date of marriage, and even when your wife p****d herself! Adam- you're as much part of this site as the eds. Keep it up please. I just need your mother's maiden name and I'm all set to totally steal your identity :)

6.) 28 Feb 2018 05:04:12
give me a hug guys, i don't want to be left alone. i like everyone and respect everyone.

7.) 28 Feb 2018 06:42:42
MKS easily my fave poster and has posted recently some really interesting articles for me to read, he puts them up to be read and some agree or not but at least he creates debate which is great for me personally
Top top poster imo.

8.) 28 Feb 2018 07:38:55
Sure stoneage, welcome to the sisterhood! lol.

9.) 28 Feb 2018 07:42:01

I was one of the people who gave my opinion that you exaggerate in your posts a lot to drive your point Home but what you end up doing is diluting your point. That isn’t having a dig, that is constructive criticism too. Whether you choose to take that on board is your porogotive. My post was nothing personal against you, you’re clearly very passionate about football.

Citing the ECL final as a reason for Dudek to be a higher up on an all time list, citing couts attitude towards his exit and hendo’s exemplary attitude only shows that you’re letting emotion override common sense. I hated the way he left our club but the fact remains he had wonderful ability, a player who truly got you off your feet on a regular basis and scored some huge goals for us.

10.) 28 Feb 2018 08:33:14
Thank you everyone. This means a lot to me! Iwon't let it stop me from posting, i just wish people would debate my points rather than debate my credibility as a poster! I'm just as happy to see a detailed counter argument than to see someone say they agree. Only on this site do you get the quality of debate.

I appreciate that 87red, but i interpreted the question as the 20 best players for Liverpool. Not the 20 best individuals. Therefore i considered things like attitude, importance to the team, longevity, trophies won, contribution in big games and individual ability.

Dudek kept us in the game with the best double save i have ever seen, and then won us the shoot out. A couple of Liverpool players missed their penalties so if Dudek hadn't made those saves, we wouldn't be 5 times winners. That last save against Shevchenko is the most iconic moment in my lifetime as a Liverpool fan.

How can we not let emotion play a part when picking the best players for Liverpool in our history? Football is just a game without the emotion. Coutinho had a poor attitude in the end and won nothing, and our team was always just as good without him in the side despite his individual brilliance. When he had the chance to make a name for himself in European final, he went missing.

It's fine if you disagree, but you didn't need to make out it was a ridiculous statement for me to say Dudek did more for Liverpool than Coutinho. Coutinho was a better individual player, but he wasn't better for Liverpool in my opinion.

11.) 28 Feb 2018 10:17:19
MK is a first class poster who at times goes over the top. But that is normal as we are all normal people. I don’t blindly agree with him and had someone cracking debates in the past. Is he getting some stick lately? Quite normal and that is a part of this group! There are no permanent emtoions or favorites.

12.) 28 Feb 2018 11:07:38
I disagree on the favourites part Harry! You are one of my favourite posters because you always have an opinion and when you vehemently disagree, you at least have the balls to put your head on the chopping block too and write out a detailed reply or explanation. I sometimes disagree with you, but i think you are a huge part of why this site is so good. You are prepared to be a subject of ridicule in order to stay true to yourself and give your honest opinion.

Everyone will go overboard from time to time if they are passionate about something, me and you included. I don't mind being told if I'm going overboard in an isolated debate. It is when people dismiss your opinion with phrases like "once again" or "as usual" or "every post" etc. That's just rude and it implies that it is a characteristic unique to me and that all of my posts can't be taken seriously. As you've just explained though Harry, it is part of being a passionate fan of football to sometimes go over the top. I'd question you if you went OTT, but I'd never ridicule you or accuse you of being a bad player because of it.

13.) 28 Feb 2018 12:36:09
MKS you need to not take it so personally if you’re going to put your “against the grain” opinions out there. Opinions that are different to my own are obviously fine and in some most instances you can understand where someone is coming from even if you disagree. I cannot accept that Dudek or sterling come above couts in a greatest Liverpool player in any world. You absolutely can’t let emotion overrule common sense if you’re to five an unbiased view on something, that is fact.

To be clear, you do exaggerate your point on a regular basis hence why people said what they did on your last thread. Some of the toughest feedback I’ve received in my career has been the most useful so don’t dismiss it because it’s hard to swallow.

To reiterate, your posts can often have good points but you then go to far to male your point and it dilutes it. When you do this on a number occasion, people will begin the dismiss your opinion whether you like it or not.

Like you say it’s any opinions game and my opinion about some of the players you rated above couts were simply outrageous.

14.) 28 Feb 2018 13:24:09
I agree MK. I have taken the most amount of sticks on this site after the Editors. I know how it feels. But over the time you'll get used to it. I know you from the days of YNWA Adam. We have had countless arguments and debates over the years. As long as you are true to yourself in what you say and believe you don’t need to worry about anything else. Just ask an editor how he feels when he is being constantly abused for speaking truth!

Our opinions are our perception! It need not be same with the next person. And we can’t control their actions.
If everyone have the same view then this site would be damn boring!

{Ed033's Note - Yes, but what have you done with all of the sticks?

15.) 28 Feb 2018 15:13:37
87red, writing with passion and emotion is just my style. Anybody who doesn't like it or finds it over powering can just do what TaffyTel said and skip it? I'm not asking you to read it. But nobody has the right to tell me to change who i am as a person.

I take the point on board about the length occassionally diluting my point and i will try and improve in that aspect, but i only go into so much length because i feel as though i have to cover every bit of ground, because of how often people pick out one line of my posts that was barely relevant. I'll just let people question it in future though and then explain if it is wanted. I also take your point about thick skin. I had a bad day yesterday though as my childhood family dog of 14 years died, and i lost it a little bit! You guys were just there for me to vent at 😂

You won't catch me leaving passion and emotion out of anything to do with football though! Playing it, discussing it, watching it etc. Football would be nothing without them. I regard myself as a fan of Kyle Edmund, Anthony Joshua, Lewis Hamilton, Justin Rose etc. It doesn't ruin my day when they lose, like it does with Liverpool though. Because I'm not emotionally involved and therefore I'm not as passionate or interested. I'm sorry if you don't like my style, but i won't change because some people do and it's who I am.

16.) 28 Feb 2018 15:17:57
Don't worry Harry 😉 In 30 years when this place is a ghost town me and you will still be in heated debate, and Ed001 will still be sat somewhere in the UAE shaking his head in disbelief at what we're saying!

{Ed001's Note - I couldn't cope with 30 years of Harry hankering after Kovacic as manager following his retirement from playing.....}

17.) 28 Feb 2018 16:02:40
Gutted that MK about your dog mate, bloody brutal isn't it, they become such a part of your life/ family.

Harry, I very rarely agree with you but that doesn't matter, you bring something most don't, another top top poster!
'If everyone have the same view then this site would be damn boring! ' - Exactly!

18.) 28 Feb 2018 16:41:48
Jorginho as his assistant, right Harry? 😉

You'd miss Harry if he left Ed. Don't lie to yourself!

{Ed001's Note - hmmmm.}

19.) 28 Feb 2018 17:47:49
MK, star in his own right. You know your football and although I don't always agree with you 9 times out of 10 I do. I always give your argument decent thought. Good man. Most of the posters are pretty cool imo. Negative red gets on my tits sometimes, whinning after a 5 1 win, "lovren is awful, his mistake led to the goal" but your pessimism is quite refreshing.

25 Feb 2018 19:42:18
Is it just me or were those 3 games today dire? Was really looking forward to seeing 3 great games but was disappointed on all 3 counts! The worst was Man United v Chelsea. I sympathise with MU fans over the state of the football. And what has happened to Arsenal? Man City were ok-ish in the first half and great in the second half but Arsenal were dire! Think Gary Neville was OTT but on the Arsenal page they agree with him. A great Saturday (Liverpool, Scotland, Ireland) but a poor Sunday. As a footie fan I expect better!

1.) 25 Feb 2018 23:46:33
Nevill was hard but I don't think it was ott - they're sixth, their players were walking round the pitch ducking out of tackles and couldn't string five passes together. I'd say aubemayan although poor, was the only one running around at least, chasing balls. Wing backs didn't run at their opponents, midfield didn't move and the defence was weak. Ospina looked like he had a mistake in him every time city got close. If I was an arsenal fan I'd be exstatic if anyone could give me a positive from that game. Going to Wembley for a cup final and not being fussed? Maybe he positive is that they should be fit for Thursday after putting absolutely no effort in today, but then again, who would you want starting out of that team?

2.) 26 Feb 2018 09:36:23
Well at least having Southampton as a feeder club is sort of working for Liverpool. How is the Everton retirement home doing for all the ex Man Utd has beens over the years? 😉.

3.) 26 Feb 2018 17:11:45
not bad if you're a manU fan tho aye!? was expecting that to be a naff game, but it is all business when the top 4 teams are jostling for position.

4.) 26 Feb 2018 17:15:23
All awful mate

3 good games I thought we were going to get. Oh well.

24 Feb 2018 18:47:35
Sunny day, Liverpool second 4 - 1, Calcutta Cup Scotland 25 - England 13, Ireland 37 - 27, Indian street food and chappatties for dinner, cheeky Sauvignon Blanc to celebrate. What a day 😎😎 ⚽️⚽️🏉🏉🍾🍾🥘🥘.

1.) 24 Feb 2018 21:11:12
HAHAHA nice one dude.

2.) 24 Feb 2018 21:23:51
All good in your world then🖒.

3.) 25 Feb 2018 14:23:48

Ed, fantastic article and love all the snippets of info about what went on then. Btw, Jim Craig was my dentist when I was a teenager and he told me he set up the winning goal for the European Cup! Obviously a bit of embellishment there. Sadly, despite his footballing talent, he wasn’t a very good dentist haha.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate, glad you enjoyed. He didn't mention giving away the penalty then?}

MKScouser without detracting from the general well made points in your essay, I would dispute that Man City are ‘widely regarded as the best team in Europe’. The best team (currently) in the EPL yes, Europe no.
