Here's some proper mental gossip I heard at the weekend from my mate who is an Italian footy journalist. Anyway, he thinks that LFC are after wingers and a left back (I read that from the Eds on here, but he had no prompting from me! ) and told me that we are looking at Marko Arnautovic and Erik Pieters form Stoke. Not sure if he was winding me up or not, so take it with a pinch of salt, but wanted to share it all the same.

I can't believe we'll go through a whole transfer window without signing someone from Southampton, so what about Mane?

2.) 26 Apr 2016 13:58:38
Southampton ron no doubt we will be linked with a few saints players but the 2 mentioned above play for stoke.

3.) 26 Apr 2016 16:33:52
Italian football journos are notorious for knowing nothing. Further to that both players are bang average and not better than we have.

4.) 26 Apr 2016 18:29:06
Arnoto is out of contract soon I think and peiters looks solid enough. Not major upgrades but not the worst additions. Especially is Arno is going to be a bench player behind Phillips, some pace coming off the bench 😊.

5.) 26 Apr 2016 19:15:46
I'd rather we didn't shop for well know Prem players given their inflated fees, I think we could do better shopping in the foreign leagues. Firmino, Coutinho, Alonso, Torres, Suarez, All from abroad and all were good value for money, even Firmino I'd say is now a £50million player, just to mention a phew.

I trust Klopp will find some nice cheap rough diamonds.

6.) 27 Apr 2016 23:29:38
I really rate Arnautovic actually, on his day he's a real threat. Who holds an interest, Eds?

{Ed002's Note - You need the stoke page but approaches to Stoke City by both PSG and Hamburg have met the "not for sale" response but the club are struggling to have the "difficult" forward agree a contract extension.}

Very strange rumour from a journo called Patrick Gleeson about LFC looking at 22 year old Reading CB Sean Morrison. Eds, any truth to this or a case of "journalist in just-made-crap-up shocker"? {Ed002's Note - I know nothing of it, sorry.}

Hi Eds - I posted up a picture of a signed shirt, any ideas where I can get help in identifying the signatures on it please? :)

LeTrench

{Ed033's Note - The picture is on a liverpool player sightings page

1.) 08 Dec 2016 16:22:58
I would suggest looking through the squad from 2004/ 2005 and individually search for them.

eBay would be fairly useful.

2.) 08 Dec 2016 15:30:55
What year is it? I have a signed 2001-2002 shirt with most of the squad on it - including some rare ones such as Anelka. If I could see the signatures better I might be able to help you out if your shirt is of a similar year.

3.) 09 Dec 2016 04:56:59
The signature at the bottom with the number 10 is Luis Garcia's. It must be a shirt between 2004-2007.

4.) 09 Dec 2016 05:00:22
I am also pretty sure that the signature directly under the Carlsberg logo is Sami Hyypia's.

Just curious, but do the Eds reckon that Zlatan could cut it in the BPL?
Personally, I think he'd be great but I don't really see enough of him to judge - and I know the standard in Ligue Un is supposed to be dire.

LeTrench

{Ed001's Note - no idea.}

1.) 13 Apr 2016 13:27:39
I'm I missing something when it comes to last night, it seems that blanc the psg players and the whole of the French media see it as some kind of disgrace that they lost to Man City. I know they are not having the best season in England and psg are dominating the most one sided league in the world but they are on pretty similar level to me.

2.) 13 Apr 2016 13:30:35
3 years ago yeah. He's getting on now though and benefitting from being a class above just about every other player in the French league. I think he's got too acclimatised to that level of Football now and is too old to adopt to a faster paced, higher level.

Still a world class player on his day, and he'd definitely score goals anywhere. I don't think he'd score 20+ in England though. Probably 10-15.

There's no way he'd maintain his current level in England though. Not for me at least. Guess we'd never know for sure unless he tried.

3.) 13 Apr 2016 13:50:29
If you wanna play with 10 men for long periods during games then Zlatan is your guy as he does absolutely nothing for the team defensively at PSG. He has Matuidi, Verrati, and Motta as his water carriers.

4.) 13 Apr 2016 14:49:40
Hed do alright imho but i could see red cards for him as the defenders in the prem would rough him up and i could see it provoking a reaction.

5.) 13 Apr 2016 16:54:23
Put it this way, I hope the mancs chuck a shed load of money at him to join the lvg revolution.

6.) 13 Apr 2016 17:03:18
His wages would make it a non starter for most teams as well I should imagine, I have to say well done to man city for getting through, oh the irony if pellegrini wins the champions league. The return of de bruyne has been timely for them.

7.) 13 Apr 2016 17:45:13
According to lucas moura there are no teams at psg level in england hence the disgust. Seemed a litle conceited but hay hum they will not be so complacent next time i guess.

8.) 13 Apr 2016 18:08:08
Push ain't nothing special, they are never challenged until champ league then they go out, it's the same every year you would think they are use to it by now.

And city are 4thnplace team in England, all 3 teams above city could beat psg in my opinion.

And us. OBVIOUSLY 😉.

I would love to hears the Eds views on Jamie Carragher - as a player and his impact at LFC. Apologies if this has already been done. I did look. made my eyes hurt though.

LeTrench

{Ed001's Note - hard to judge him really, I loved him as a player, but he was not really of the level of the 80s, for instance. What he did was put his heart and soul into the team every time he played. He may not have been captain, but he was a leader on the pitch for the side. Just a shame he didn't have that little bit extra ability to go with his willingness to give it all for the cause.

Having said that, he did have more ability on the ball than he was ever given credit for. He could have easily made his career in midfield, if things had been different.}

1.) 29 Mar 2016 20:21:52
Thanks for the reply Ed001 - I agree, I can't fault the man's effort and commitment, but for me he seemed to struggle a lot at fullback and always appeared to slow the game down going forward. I also remember him giving Arbeloa a proper rollicking one game and shoving him around. I thought that was strange, especially as the guy was a full Spain international and went on to play for Real, so obviously knew what he was doing!

{Ed001's Note - that was more because Arbeloa was being an arse off the pitch and was trying to force his way out of the club.}

2.) 29 Mar 2016 20:35:46
. which is fair enough I guess! Anyway, always interested in your opinions Ed, appreciate the effort you guys make. Thanks.

3.) 29 Mar 2016 22:09:53
Will we ever see him take a management job somewere, or will he stick to media work?
Cheers.

4.) 29 Mar 2016 23:11:22
I think he loves the game too much to sit on the sidelines. Hard to believe, but he did score on debut and almost got a cracker in his final game.

22 Sep 2015 12:23:50
I would be interested to get the Eds take on how much of a loss Gerrard has been this season.
Watching the games this season I get the impression that SG may have been doing more to galvanise the team (on and off the pitch) than he was being given credit for.

LeTrench

{Ed002's Note - Not too much. He is at the end of his career and his performances last season were not looked upon kindly by the folks here. It was time for a change and for him to move on.}

1.) 22 Sep 2015 12:42:40
Ed002, do you think Liverpool have suffered from his lack of leadership? I posted after the Man Utd game that we seem to lack leaders and my view is that, regardless of Gerrard the player, Gerrard the Captain appears to be sorely missed.

{Ed002's Note - Not to any great extent. I am pretty sure the original plan was that Lallana would have taken over as captain, but with the injuries it allowed Henderson a chance. Milner would certainly have been considered as captain as well. Gerrard is currently causing the club some problems with his book, so they won't be missing him too much.}

2.) 22 Sep 2015 13:04:46
Fair point about the book, I would imagine it pretty much means he won't be involved in the club in any capacity under these owners or manager!

I do wish footballers would wait until they have retired completely from the game (including management if that's where their ambition lies) as its just noise and distraction otherwise. Its not as if they don't earn enough on the pitch to have to cash in so much off it!

Thanks for the reply.

3.) 22 Sep 2015 14:48:23
Why do you wish to gag him? Steven Gerard was a great servant to our club. Things are clearly - CLEARLY - not right at the club. So why shouldn't he say it. He is more qualified than perhaps anyone alive to give insight.

Furthermore, he should've been kept with a view to learning the managerial ropes - in a similar way to what United are doing with Giggs. To me it stinks of lack of vision.

Why do some Liverpool fans have such short memories when it comes to such a loyal servant?!

Steven Gerard was a colossus, a true legend for us. Please lads, let's try and reciprocate the loyalty he gave us.

4.) 22 Sep 2015 18:12:01
Erm, I'm not in any way denigrating Gerrard!

He has been my Liverpool hero for nigh on 15 years!

My point was that Gerrard bringing out a book where he is basically criticizing the coach, some of the players and the owner unfortunately means he is unlikely to get a coaching role in the current set up. That's a crying shame as I also would've loved Gerrard to take on a Giggs type role - player coach for a couple of years maybe then progressing to assistant manager as Giggs has done.

FSG/BR/Others shoulder a big chunk of the blame for not offering it, but by writing what he has written, Gerrard hasn't helped himself at all.

My final point was about footballers generally. I found much more pleasure in reading Kenny Dalglish reflecting on a full playing and managing career, than reading Torres' 200 page love letter to Liverpool just before he jumped ship.

11 Dec 2014 13:43:37
This is probably going to get me flamed for asking a naive question, but it's something I've often wondered - do individuals at director level who are 'directly' involved in the transfer of players INTO the football club (like Damien Comolli) personally make any money from the transactions?
So something like an agent saying "If you buy my player for your club, you can have 2% of the fee paid" or something like that?

LeTrench

{Ed001's Note - that is something that does go on at times.}

I wonder if its due to his extended run in the side, his own confidence or the confidence in those around him (or all three) - but he's come on leaps and bounds lately.

I thought his dad had lined him up for Utd when De Gea moves to Spain.
