Hi all, I’ve got a question for Ed002. Do you know the latest on the Premier League’s search for a new Chief Executive? It’s been almost a year and a half since Scudamore stood down, have you heard about any issues behind the scenes?

Appreciate it’s not really a Liverpool post, but still relevant.

KloppoUberAlles

{Ed002's Note - After the false start with Susanna Dineage an offer was made to someone else who after consideration declined the role. A third party company working on behalf of the Premier League found them some potential candidates but none were suitable. The plan remains to fill the role before the end of the year and another third party is working the issue. Separately the Premier League do have someone in mind, but he would need persuading - and I rather doubt he will be.}

1.) 21 Aug 2019 15:18:37
Can you let them know I’d make myself available for that level of remuneration, thanks ed👍.

{Ed002's Note - Will do.}

2.) 21 Aug 2019 15:45:39
Ed002 couldn’t you do the job in your spare time?

{Ed002's Note - Actually they have considered a couple of Americans, which was a little bit of a surprise.}

3.) 22 Aug 2019 06:33:39
I bet Alan Curbishley is about 33/ 1 for the role on most betting sites.

4.) 22 Aug 2019 09:03:18
What about Rick Parry?

06 Jun 2017 11:35:18
God damn, Southampton reporting us to the authorities over tapping up of Van Dijk. A little bit weird seeing as by all accounts it seemed like he was the desperate one and we'd heard we did it all correctly.

If we hadn't agreed a fee how has Klopp been allowed to speak directly to him, as reported?
With FSG going all funny on the Salah deal we could end up with no one and a ban. Things change quick.

2.) 06 Jun 2017 14:37:50
Max FSG has not gone funny, they have simple said we will not be held to ransom for a player, its good business. Also i always thought it was that VVD was sold on Klopps vision, this could just be that Klopp has spoken with the Agent who has relayed this on?

3.) 06 Jun 2017 14:53:00
Not giving excuses but his agent came to us. We did not go to him and Saints were already approached in March about VVD so don't really know what they are playing at. I think they were just mad that there will be no bidding war hence, more money for them as every man and his dog knew he would leave. Also, reports show that VVD spoke to Conte and Pep as well but the Saints' ain't mad about that, are they? Let's see what happens before aportioniong blame to whoever.

4.) 06 Jun 2017 15:53:14
Alex a price is set by Roma, £40m, who will accept less £35m. We agree terms and then offer £29m.

We used to do this and lose out. I appreciate negotiations etc but it's hardly like we accept anything less then the price we set for players. So yeah they've gone a bit funny and the deal is on the rocks.

We quote £30m to Palace for Sakho and won't entertain a lesser bid. Yet we mess other clubs around for their players. It's embarrassing. It's almost misleading.

Get in there Bobby!

Also, didn’t Ed002 make a comment about us not needing to worry about his contract situation? More reason to feel bad about his/ her/ zhe absence.

1.) 29 Apr 2018 17:10:29
Get in! what a great bit of news. I know contracts these day's don;t mean much but I feel with Firmino it does, the lads happy at Liverpool and going nowhere, thank god! Well done to the club for giving him a new contract.

Firmino told Liverpoolfc. com: “It was an easy decision.

“The club have taken me in in an incredible way and I’ve grown a lot here with my work with the support of the whole team. I am very, very happy here.

“Everything fits in the best possible way. My teammates are fantastic and I am very grateful to be able to play with them at this club.

“I love to play for Liverpool FC. The fans are excellent and fantastic in how they support us all the way. They support us throughout the games and the work they do during the match is beautiful. ”

Legend!

2.) 29 Apr 2018 17:12:25
Loved the 'no look' contract signing as well.

3.) 29 Apr 2018 17:25:38
I am crying tears.

4.) 29 Apr 2018 17:43:43
Something Red - hold the tears until we get Mane's deal extended too (Salah is already signed up for the next 4 years and supposedly being offered improved terms)! 😉.

5.) 29 Apr 2018 19:45:45
Spot on, Ra1969. SR, Salah is going nowhere next season and will be getting his contract restructured very soon. Bobbie is signed up and Mane will soon be as well. This news will get the boys and fans all juiced up for the Roma game. Brilliant PR move by the club to announce this now.

Kun is out of the match tomorrow, finally my Voodoo doll pin work has started to pay off. I’m a little bit surprised as I was mainly targeting the rectal area, I’m fact my Aguero plushie doesn’t really even have knees to speak of.

KloppoUberAlles

1.) 03 Apr 2018 18:02:22
"I was mainly targeting the rectal area". not the first time you've said that, eh? :D.

2.) 03 Apr 2018 18:34:36
o k a y t h e n.

3.) 03 Apr 2018 19:23:10
OP, you should have worked your magic on Silva and/ or KDB as Aguero can't buy a goal at Anfield and with him at Anfield in Jan, City could well have been playing w/ 10 men as he was dreadful all game.

4.) 03 Apr 2018 22:14:28
Honestly I don't mind if Aguero plays. It's not like Jesus is a slouch by any means. Not to mention, Aguero has a hot head. Could get him sent off.

I really think we should try and go for Xhaka this summer, Wenger just doesn't seem to be able to get the best out of him, his quality is undoubted.

Joke! Just kidding, he's dross. But, it does seem like there is death in the air at the Emirates, I fear this might actually finally be the beginning of the end for Wenger. They look cataclysmically bad.

KloppoUberAlles

1.) 01 Mar 2018 20:35:36
I hope Wenger stays for as long as he wants to.

2.) 01 Mar 2018 21:10:30
I genuinely feel sorry for Arsenal fans. Out of the top teams I have a lot of time for Arsenal, Spurs and a grudging respect even for Utd. With Arsenal it’s not a case of a cataclysmic failure over a season or two leading to a struggle to reach the top again, such as with us. Their slow and steady downfall began years ago, pretty much everyone could see it and yet the same bloke is in charge. It seems unreal to me that a manager so clearly out of touch (IMO anyway) with the modern game is both allowed and persists with his current role. For me it’s a sorry sight to see what is a genuinely a great footballing club getting dragged down by a stubborn manager and made to look silly by a team that, let face it, is only where it is because of rich owners.

{Ed001's Note - I feel sorry for City's players personally, they must be bloody freezing out there. They have been strolling around in freezing cold air all night.}

3.) 01 Mar 2018 22:16:05
Ha brilliant.

4.) 02 Mar 2018 08:37:03
dragged down by a stubborn manager
=================
Yeah they should sack him and get Roy Hodgson in . All am saying is anyone sure its the manager's fault, considering they have a well publicised division within their own board .

The 'Power of Numbers' video that was just posted half an hour ago on the LFC YouTube channel shows Couts loads. Do you think it means he is staying? Surely they wouldn't be stupid enough to show him so much in anything if there was the possibility of him taking flight?

KloppoUberAlles

1.) 22 Aug 2017 12:31:31
The club have maintained he is not for sale.

Surely they wouldn't be stupid enough to exclude a player from a video that they have said isn't for sale?

2.) 22 Aug 2017 12:46:20
But the club have also given Barcelona a figure they would accept. Believe what you will.

3.) 22 Aug 2017 13:01:01
Mushroom, No Ed on here has ever mentioned that we have quoted them a fee this summer and throughout this saga. Please, share where you got that info cos we have refused to meet with them nor take their calls so again, can you provide the source of your info, pls?

4.) 22 Aug 2017 13:16:16
BR we did quote PSG a fee though, luckily we scrapped that.

5.) 22 Aug 2017 13:48:00
We have quoted Barcelona a fee twice. Firstly it was 100m euros, which we scrapped. Now it stands at 150m euros.
I don't need to supply my source of info. What you could do is RTP.

6.) 22 Aug 2017 14:09:51
If we quoted PSG a fee, anyone know if why they didn't bid? Lower priority? It's not that they're short of a few quid.

7.) 22 Aug 2017 19:32:34
I know we quoted PSG a fee, but not Barca.

8.) 22 Aug 2017 20:16:31
Any idea why they failed to bid?

9.) 23 Aug 2017 06:40:37
Iirc PSG didn’t think he was worth the 100mil we quoted them and they had/ have loads of other targets to somehow splash 400mil on lol.

10.) 23 Aug 2017 13:06:07
Smells of b. s. to me! If Neymar is worth 200m, Philly is definitely worth half of that at least so it's either b. s. or a priority thing.

"I taste just like ice cream
B*tch I am so icy
Heart cold like an ice queen
That's why they don't like me
Lackin', that's unlikely
I'm ridin' with pipes and
Smokin' on some good gas
Girl just come and try this
Catch me in the club b*tch
See me poppin' bottles
He saw me on IG, thought I was a model
Your girlfriend, she swallow
I'm loadin' these hollows
She like takin' footballs
Call that b*tch Hey Arnold"

Hey Arnold by Rico Nasty 😂.

3.) 15 Aug 2017 20:55:41
Why do you even know the lyrics to a Rico Nasty song, MK? Diva at heart, I see.

4.) 15 Aug 2017 21:13:21
I've always wanted there to be a TAA song based on Trans Europe Express by Kraftwerk, it would probably be the least catchy chant ever though haha.

Absolutely disgraceful. Seems like it goes against everything Klopp stands for, so hopefully he can persuade the players to tell the public they would rather take a small pay cut to support the people that keep the club ticking.

Surely the club should’ve aimed for getting the players to come out and say this in the first place, at least it would’ve been consistent with their “this means more” advertising crap. Now it will be laughable whenever anyone sees that line.

Timo was in a grey Walter Mazzarri? Got nothing against it, but I didn’t know Walter had gone grey already. But if he is signing, then it’s good to know he’s enjoying the sights and attractions of Liverpool already. 👍.

I’m sorry I feel I need to step in here. Kimuraking, that is just utterly uninformed bull. Typical influenza has a far, far lower mortality rate than the 2019 coronavirus. 40% is utter, utter bollocks, do not attempt to make sweeping statements about a subject you clearly have no understanding of. Spanish flu had a mortality rate of between 10 and 20% and it was the worst pandemic in history.

“Worldwide flu kills around 15% of sufferers at its lowest percentage” - spectacularly incorrect.

The 2019 Influenza serotype has a mortality rate of 0.12 to 0.04%. This is typical for a seasonal flu. If the average flu had a mortality rate of 25% we’d be losing about 2% of the population each year to flu - which is obviously not the case, is it?

The mortality rate of the 2019 coronavirus does vary, how can it not? There are so many factors that contribute to it, the mortality rate in Iran is far higher than Italy at the moment - due to the relative healthcare systems. Additionally, I have heard from colleagues that the Italian strain might have several mutations rendering it slightly less virulent than the Iranian strain - where younger people appear to be dying. However this is not proven yet. Unless you are talking about differences in mortality rate of more than a few percent, which is ridiculous.

Do not make up silly and verging on xenophobic theories about China designing this in a lab - it was not. Unless you think Guinea manufactured the Ebola virus too?

These kind of crackpot posts are not helpful, they are not grounded in any semblance of scientific fact and serve only to spread misinformation.

No, they didn’t put the line in the wrong place, they have used the armpit before (the Sterling offside earlier in the season) . Therefore it is probably in the IFAB rules somewhere, I don’t see why they would override that.

Your second point was something I was also not sure about. It does seem strange to select his foot manually, as it would just render everything else irrelevant. In the replays of the incident, you see them moving the line to select Firmino’s foot (and the red line shift when the new position is calculated), and you’re right, it’s stupid as there’s a huge amount of randomness and error introduced. But the fundamental point is that the first line ruling Firmino onside was wrong, and they tried to correct it as best they could by aligning to his foot, which resulted in the change. So I think this is the big issue, the manual re-selection if the software gets it wrong.

The HawkEye system almost certainly has its own, fixed cameras to enable it to calculate the distances correctly. It would be impossible to calculate the distances without doing this. So the angle of the broadcast camera is irrelevant for the distances, but since it is what the referees used for the manual alignment it is an issue for that - they wouldn’t be able to accurately pick his foot out.

Sport broadcasts are at a higher frame rate, 50 frames per second I believe. Yes, 50 is not high enough, the spatial and temporal resolution is not high enough to make millimetre calls on distance, and millisecond calls on when a ball was passed. And that’s why if the distance comes out at e. g. 5 cm or less for example, then we just say level. That would be an improvement on the linesman at the moment, and consistent.

There are lots and lots of problems with VAR. I was only originally defending the moving of the line, which I don’t think was an obvious bit of corruption.

Ed001, I explained this. The line is not in the wrong place so far as the rules are at this point in time. So far as I understand, they (the referees) were not moving the line, it was the software recalculating based upon the corrected position of Firmino’s feet - which is the wrong way to do it, but is the way they have decided to do it. And that is also why the line looks wrong, because it probably is wrong. But that does not mean it is necessarily evidence of corruption. It strikes me more as the kind of people that come up with the rules/ procedures lack any kind of scientific understanding.

KloppoUberAlles

{Ed001's Note - no, you are missing the point. The armpit cannot score a goal and so cannot be offside. The line was taken from his armpit. So they put the line in the wrong place. It doesn't matter if the software set it there, they do have an override, that is why they are there looking at, rather than just having the software call the decision as they do with the question of whether the ball crossed the line or not. Martin Atkinson could see that the line was in the wrong place and made the wrong call. It was Atkinson's call, the referee makes the final decision. All you have said basically is that the software is flawed, which we know, which is why the referee is there to make the call. And he made the wrong call according to the guidelines the PGMOL themselves put out after the first set of games when a number of goals were ruled out incorrectly due to close offside calls. They are not taking into consideration the large margin of error the system has.

I get what you are saying, but who tells the software where the foot is when it gets it wrong? Someone has to tell it and who decides when the ball was played? There are, I believe, 24 frames per second (iirc) and the decision cannot be from the software which frame to use, as you have already pointed out, it doesn't even know the difference between one man's foot and another man's hand. There is human input.

As for not being able to take one camera's perspective, you can also not trust the system's calibration, as it only takes one measurement to be out of place for it all to be wrong. Have they taken account of the difference depending on how the camera is turned to face the play? We know they haven't, because they can't, it is impossible to know exactly with current technology, which is why the system has such a large margin of error. The whole system has a large margin of error because nothing is exactly in line to make it easier.}

Ed001, it is relevant when you accuse officials of corruption with moving the lines. It seemed to me like you were suggesting the referees moved the line after seeing the outcome.
I agree completely with you about the tolerances of the system needing to be taken into account - there should be a simple cut off where if the lines are within a certain distance the decision is simply chalked off as level.

KloppoUberAlles

{Ed001's Note - how else do you explain why the line is in the wrong place after all the adjustments? They were moving the line about, why did they put it in the wrong place? None of what you said alters the fact it was put, quite obviously, in the wrong place. All this centre of balance stuff does not change a damn thing in terms of the officials making the decision made it with a visibly wrong line in place.}

Ed001, about VAR. From what I know, the line we see on TV is not drawn by the VAR (e. g. Martin Atkinson) but drawn by HawkEye software. I don’t know much about the software, but based on their other technology, I would assume it uses many more cameras than are available for broadcast - as sampling is king in data processing. Therefore, the line that is drawn is susceptible to looking strange based on the perspective of a single camera, which is why it is slightly presumptuous to jump in and say the line is wrong based on a single perspective (although it could still be) . As part of the calculation of the line, the software must identify Firmino’s ‘centre of gravity’, from what I understand, simply his position relative to the touchlines. Then, the further most point of the player is found, and a line drawn vertically down and a line drawn parallel to the touchlines from the centre of gravity. The intersect of these two shows you where the further most point of the player is on the grass. Then you do the same for the other player, and you can determine who is further forward, and whether the attacker is offside. When calculating Firmino’s centre of gravity, the software incorrectly identified Mings’ hand as Firmino’s foot, so the resulting centre of gravity was wrong. Then one of the VAR’s corrected this and correctly placed Firmino’s foot (just below Ming’s dingle on the broadcast footage) . This explains the ‘re-drawing’ of the line.
Therefore, the decision is correct based on their protocol, and there is not a conspiracy.
However, it seems obvious to me that their protocol is wrong. Firmino’s armpit is to the right of his feet, so the centre of gravity and subsequent line will be in a different position (different x-axis value) to the one they used from his feet. This will give a different intercept, so it’s possible that his armpit (ridiculous) was onside.

In short, the decision was correct based on the way they operate VAR, and there isn’t a conspiracy. However, it’s possibly the way they calculate the positions is wrong, and the decision was incorrect in reality.

KloppoUberAlles

{Ed001's Note - sorry but none of that is relevant. For one it is not that accurate that it can rule on matters of millimetres, which this was. Secondly an armpit has never scored a goal, so cannot be offside. The line was drawn in the wrong place. Then redrawn in the wrong place repeatedly. The point of Martin Atkinson there is to see that it is in the wrong place and also to notice that it is beyond the tolerances of the accuracy of the system and so unable to make a decision.}
