Memoirs of LFC Fan,

Back in the 88/ 89 season I remember inviting some of my mates from college round for a night of beers and cards. Liverpool were at home to newly promoted Palace and as the hands were played I kept nipping into the living room to check the score on teletext/ ceefax. The score was changing virtually every 10 mins I checked much to my and my friends amusement. For those not old enough to remember the score finished 9-0 and they even missed a pen (A. Pardew took it I think? )

Anyone else got any other fond memories like that?

Jonesy, that was the 12th September, mate. Remember it well as it was my 2nd wedding anniversary and couldn't get to game. Beat Palace twice that season then blew it in semi.

{Ed001's Note - me mam got me the VHS video of that game (remember them?) back in the days when you couldn't just buy those kind of things. She had to save tokens out of the paper to send for it! I wore it out watching it over and over again. Stevie Nicol was immense that day scoring the first and last goal and the only man to score twice.}

Nicol, Mcmahon, rush, Gillespie, Beardsley, Aldridge, Barnes and Hysen on the score sheet I believe.

Lol yes Ed I remember the tokens! kids these days be like 'wtf is a VHS? ' hahaha.

My most vivid memory of the 89 season was standing on the Kop and the last day, clapping Arsenal off, feeling totally stunned after what I’d just seen.

We had a Betamax video, great quality when recording but feck all videos to rent 😩😩.

Back in the days when things were appreciated and cherished, I somehow feel the world has lost something since the 90s.

{Ed025's Note - they have lerchy...liverpool winning the league.. :)

5.) 04 Apr 2019 20:50:46
😂 Everton winning a cup too Ed.

{Ed025's Note - your dead right lerchy mate..

I had a VHS of a 5-0 win over Forest same season could have been a cup game. Hailed as one of the best performances of that era.

That’s good to know, all good too mate, another win tomorrow I’ll be over the moon.

First time poster, been a fan of site for many years finding myself checking it at least twice a day now for latest match reports and fellow fan thoughts/ feedback. Thanks for all hard work Ed's etc put in it's greatly appreciated! Just wanted to ask if everyone has seen the premier league fixture predictor on the echo website and if their final league table looks as good as mine?

1.) 19 Mar 2019 20:48:44

Always find them to be reactive rather than proactive.

True story. my late grandad sadly passed away November 2004. My grandad born and raised in Liverpool is the reason myself and many family members are reds even though we all live in Brighton and surrounding areas. Being a baker he lived a modest life and when he passes my nan gave me his LFC club tie and his old wristwatch.
His wrists were fairly thin so I could barely do the watch strap up. I kept his watch in my chest of drawers for months until I thought I would pop it in my pocket as a lucky charm for the 2005 Instanbul champions league final. Out with a group of friends and family on the night at a LFC supporters pub in Hove I was truly deflated at half time to see how we had being taken apart and were trailing 3-0. During the break I remembered the watch and managed to get it on my wrist for the second half. Kissing the watch after every goal as we clawed our way back, I called my Nan at full time with tears in my eyes, voice lost from shouting I managed to explain what I had done and to this day I keep the watch In my pocket for finals and potentially tricky games.
