Eds, with Lucas looking set to leave and Can being seen as the long term option in that position, I just wanted to ask about speculation over Delph. His name has been mentioned before and I'd assume those links may crop up again once Lucas leaves but would it be safe to say the club has no interest in him or any other player for the cdm position? Thanks

{Ed002's Note - Spurs have shown an interest in Fabian Delph and I suspect he has been considered by a number of other clubs including Newcastle, Liverpool and Arsenal as he will be out of contract at the end of this season. Aston Villa will attempt to have him sign a new contract.}

1.) 10 Jan 2015 23:26:54
Thanks for clearing that up Ed.

Any news on why Sakho was not in the final squad today?

I can understand him not being first choice but surely he has to make the bench.

1.) Was thinking the same Jassi

2.) I don't know the reason as to why he was not in the squad, but I am still not convinced by him at the moment. However if given a run with a regular partner at CB then I think he will improve a great deal

3.) I was told he was informed that he was sub and stormed out of the ground.

4.) He just apologized via Twitter/Facebook for leaving the stadium. Make of it what you will.

5.) Oooh dear mutiny in the ranks. flog him i say . ha haaaa

6.) I do worry that he will become disillusioned about not being a first choice cb- wasnt that one of the main reasons he left psg?
Picking toure ahead of him must feel like an insult or poor judgement, especially just after toure has given away a stupid clumsy penalty.
Sakho must be wondering what he has to do to get a starting spot.

7.) For me sakho is our best defender, sick of him taking the blame for others all the the time, ok he had a 50 pence head for the third goal at west game, but that was 2- 0 before he was on, Rodgers needs to be careful how he's treating players. I understand no one is bigger then the club but toure before sakho is a joke I would react the same as sakho if I was a lpool player. But for me we've let 2 better players then we already have in agger and reina go. Two outstanding servants to our club.

8.) Agreed Cole. We should have given them another season. With mature heads they could have helped with the new influx of players. That's why I think Valdes will be a valuable addition. However I do think Sakho's problem is the way he passes the ball. His body language/positioning just telegraphs what he intends to do. He looks really awkward.

9.) What, you think another new signing will help our new signings settle?!

10.) 28 Sep 2014 14:43:39
Valdes is Spanish. so are our two young fullbacks. We need someone to command the backline. Mignolet is a youngster as well. We have never really replaced Jamie Carragher. Lovren needs a solid partner. And the back four need a solid goalkeeper.

11.) 28 Sep 2014 15:11:57
He got a cob on and left but has apologised now

12.) Agreed over lovren but still have issues over him too. Lovren looks pleasing on the eye passing wise etc. Looks the part, but his defending has not been great, wrong side of his man for a number of games so far.his best game was yesterday and Dortmund friendly probably. I get the feeling if u have a price tag tho u get more of a chance at our club look at markovic. I agree he's young and needs time but I haven't even seen a glimpse of his talent at the minute.rather assaidi or ibe on the bench. Sooner valdes recovers the better because crusty the clown triplets mignolet and jones and gk coach (tranmere rovers joke) can go back the circus)

13.) 1) Hey Cole,

Yep. agree on that, but Sakho is worrying

1) I think Lovren / Skrtl will be the Brendan choice, and I agree. Sakho can throw his dummy out of his pram as much as he wants but his performances have been loose and erratic at best.
Don't get me wrong when he came from PSG, I expected loads, however, I fear though he may be a wasted purchase, and ultimately sacrificed.

2) To be fair my friend, Markovic has the potential to be twenty times Ibe and Assaidi. Chelsea were looking to sign him, and for good reason. Liverpool took a punt. I personally think he will come on strong. At the moment tho, we need the finished article, but we are not in a financial position to buy the likes of Robben et al, plus they probably wouldn't come anyway.

3) lol goalkeeper, I agree with you although I wouln't be so scathing, Simon has been a star considering the pressure he's been under, but he needs competition. I agree John Achterberge is in need of replacement or help, that's why I agreed with original poster bout keeping Pepe for a season.

All the best my friend

{Ed002's Note - (1) Lovren sits above Sakho in the pecking order - Kirikou was Brendaned on August 25 and subsequently moved in to Brendan's house (refer to #WonderDogSparky on Twitter). (2) Chelsea chose not to buy the remainder of Markovic this summer to let Benfica mug someone in to a good profit for themselves and Chelsea for a player not ready in the eyes of Chelsea. (c) Pepe needed to be cut from the club like a rotting piece of apple. Liverpool have an interest in Valdes and January would likely work for him to have proven his fitness and join. There is a chance he might join earlier. Valdes has also spoken with Monaco and has told The AP that he has had contact from Liverpool but is aware that the Liverpool manager has refuted that.}

14.) Bring soka back to liverpool

15.) He may or may not be feeling disillusioned at his treatment by Rodgers but it is unacceptable, in my opinion, to leave the ground the way he did at the time he did. It shows a massive disrespect to both the club and its fans and is, above all, extremely unprofessional. He may feel aggrieved at not playing but that is a grievance between himself and the manager - to disrespect the club is well out of line.

16.) Some saying Toure was in the squad before Sakho, but surely Toure wasn't making the bench until Sakho kicked off a bit, or have I missed something?

17.) Right now I say it doesn't matter who we have in our defence - for this reason. We currently make good defenders become rubbish!

Something has happened with our tactics or player instructions that has made these players turn from class defenders to average at best.

Until tactics, training and player instructions change, we will continue to have a crap defence - and that would include Mignolet too.

We have such good strength in depth in our squad, but we will win nothing with a defence like this.

18.) 29 Sep 2014 07:34:06
1) Ed002, I don't do twitter, so please enlighten me as to why 'Kirikou' was Brendaned on aug 25?

2) That is objective, but probably has an ounce of truth in it. Time will tell.

3) Why do you say Pepe needed to be cut free like a rotting apple. Is that Sparkys opinion or yours?

{Ed002's Note -

(1) It unfurled like this:

Sparky ‏@WonderDogSparky • Aug 25
Sparky is drawn to the front door where he finds a whimpering Kirikou on the floor holding his love truncheon.

Sparky ‏@WonderDogSparky • Aug 25
A review of the security cameras finds footage of Brendo and another man at the front door.

Sparky ‏@WonderDogSparky • Aug 25
It is hard to make out the other guy as he is blocked out by Brendo's nose.

Sparky ‏@WonderDogSparky • Aug 25
Brendo kicks Kirikou between the legs. The other guy shouts "Brendaned - dobio ga je u gonada onda" as they run off.

Sparky ‏@WonderDogSparky • Sep 5
Sparky and PipCo say goodbye to Kirikou who has moved out to squat in Brendo's old house after Brendo and his mistress did a runner.

(2) I have no idea what you mean. It is precisely correct and I explained the situation at the time.

(3) The club handled his 2013 move to Italy very badly and he made a series of pretty bitter comments. They further handled this summer badly and could have avoided his return at all. Having him back at the club would have had a detrimental effect had he stayed longer. Maybe the club will learn a lesson.}

19.) Ha Ha Ed2. very amusing. Glad to see you have a sense of humour. However what has Kirikou ( Sahko) done to be Brendaned?
You are not the scorned wife of Mr Rodgers by any chance are you lol? Or are you implying he is gay. Ha haaa.

20.) Really sad to see Sakho not playing. young with so much potential.

21 Jul 2014 14:21:24
Hi Ed002, I asked about our apparent interest in Javier Manquillo a couple of days back, just wondering whether you were able to check/confirm the interest?

{Ed002's Note - I understand that the answer is no interest from Liverpool - possible move to Arsenal.}

1.) Its been reported that LFC have agreed a 2 year loan with AM to bring Manquillo to LFC. Hmmmmm?

18 Jul 2014 14:56:26
Hi Ed's, are you aware of any interest in Javier Manquillo?

Hearing his name being linked today.

{Ed002's Note - I can check this and will. Arsenal did speak to Atletico about a loan but having taken Debuchy it makes no sense to have him on loan as second choice. l'OM has spoken with Atletico but they did not want to sell. It would be an odd choice for Liverpool as there appears to be no pressing need for a right back.}

1.) Shouldn't there be? Johnson is dreadful, Flanagan was great last season, but do we not need better?

2.) Unless they think he can play just as well either side, or would rather wait till they can get a LB they really want and keep Flanagan there for now

3.) Thanks Ed

4.) 18 Jul 2014 18:32:54
I think there will be nothing too it. LFC are well stoked in the RB department and already have players at a similar level to Manquilio.

08 Jul 2014 14:05:55
Hearing again that LFC might be looking at Loic Remy. Have you heard anything Ed's?

{Ed001's Note - nope sorry.}

1.) To be honest he'd be a good shout. 14 PL goals last season. In his prime, plays right, left and centre and experience of the league. Not sure what sort of character he is but he's always carried a threat when I've seen him.

Losing Lucas was a blow today. Allen did well but there was no urgency in midfield, Henderson had to be more assertive. When Lucas went off I was wondering whether we could move Emre into midfield and bring Lovren on. Obviously a Derby game is not the time to try new things but if Lucas is out for a while why not try it? Emre has done well in defence but will shine in midfield.

1.) We became from having one of the worst defences in the league to one of the best. It will be insane to change anything there.

2.) I think I would have moved gerrard into lucas' role, just told him not to sit too deep and bring on markovic and push ibe on

3.) I wouldn't say it was trying new things, emre is a midfielder and lovren is a defender. Emre has played a few games (and impressed) in midfield as well.
But obviously Brendan thinks Allen is more suited to the defensive midfield role than emre can.

4.) Seriously put Gerrard into defensive midfield? You do realise that is probably his worst position? Big nose should have brought Lovren on for Lucas and pushed Can into midfield, then withdrawn Gerrard for Sturridge.

{Ed001's Note - to be fair, against an Everton team that wasn't attacking, Gerrard might have been better off deeper.}

5.) I don't agree ed, to me today Gerrard wanted to go out in a blaze of glory so he hung around their box waiting for the shot that would do that for him. I think he would have still be charging forward even if put vac into Lucas position.

6.) 08 Feb 2015 06:48:16
Can showed against bolton what he could do further forward, something gerrard cannot do, SG doesn't deserve his place in the team at the minute, Joe Allen makes me wish I hadn't hung up my boots so early. He steals a living as a pro footballer. brilliant at controlling a ball and passing 10 yards.brilliant at controlling a ball and passing 10 yards.brilliant at controlling a ball and passing 10 yards.

05 Nov 2014 14:28:03
Last night's team was a bit of a shock, I'd heard the rumours of Gerrard being dropped/rested but was surprised to see the amount of changes BR made.

The players on their part did their best and I thought Kolo did a good job, Emre and Lucas were pretty decent too in fact I'd like to see Emre start against Chelsea.

Now BR is taking a lot of criticism over his team selection and rightly so but this just makes that Chelsea game even more important.He has basically taken the approach that the league game is of greater importance and whilst the team selection last night was a little insulting I can understand him prioritising the league at this time. We still have two winnable games I'd like to think in the group stages so our fate is in our own hands.

But now BR and the team have to deliver, starting with a win against Chelsea which has to be the bare minimum given how he rested key players last night. A win against this Chelsea side would really lift the mood around the club.

1.) A win against chelsea the bare minimum ? I think a rather large of reality is in order .

2.) That's just the way I see things. Brendan took the decision to rest certain players against Madrid knowing we have a big game against Chelsea this weekend. I'm not saying beating Chelsea is a given, it's actually unlikely with how we have been playing but Brendan has prioritised this game and so has to deliver.

Any news on the Sakho injury and a possible return date?

With Lovren injured, this could be his chance to really make his claim for a first team spot - the lad clearly believes in his own ability and I hope he can prove it on the pitch.

1.) 09 Oct 2014 15:55:53
Sakho is back for Hull.

2.) Thanks for that Mighty Reds

01 Oct 2014 23:50:53
Tonight's result is disappointing but I don't think we were as bad as some are making out. We've been pretty dire all season till now but tonight wasn't our worst performance.

Basel away was going to be a tricky fixture and I think a draw would have been a good result before the game. BR is clearly inexperienced at this level and it's showing with some of his selections but I still think we will qualify from this group.

Playing Gerrard has it's pros and cons and right now he is taking a lot of the blame. But Mario and coutinho were quite poor, whilst some may say Mario needs a partner I still feel he is a player who cannot be relied upon. Put simply Mario is a player I enjoy watching but would not want playing for the team I follow. I'll support the guy and hope he proves me wrong though.

Clearly the absence of sturridge is hurting us and the pressure on raheem is showing but I think in Adam we have a top player and hopefully he'll step up these coming week's. There's a long way to go this season and we have a lot of improving to do least of all with our defence, let's just focus on the coming games with sturridge set to return. We can only get better.

28 Aug 2014 11:55:45
Hi Ed001, I've read some of your posts regarding your views about our youngsters and their lack of future opportunities dues to new arrivals.

I just wanted to ask what the club/Brendan intend to do with Texiera?

Before we bought the lad he was quality in the next gen tournament when I watched him play and having bought him injuries have held him back but surely the talent is still there with this lad?

{Ed001's Note - the stated plan is to get him experience on loan, then put him in the team when he has it. That very rarely happens though. Players that go out on loan tend to end up leaving a club and not getting a shot in the team. There are always the question marks over whether they are good enough. The only chance he realistically has of making our team now is a spate of injuries forcing Rodgers to give him a run of games. Players like him need a run of games to settle in and get to know their team mates.}

1.) I think he'll replace Coutinho next season Ed001 mate. Teixeira is just a better player all round and far more consistent. I see PipCo heading to Spain next summer. I just don't think he'll do well this coming season without Lucas whom is said to be like a father figure to him. He seems to be regressing already with his top performances becoming rarer by the month.

All just gueswork and speculation but Teixeira has that something special. Call it star quality or whatever. If he doesn't make it at Anfield, the club has failed him because he's literally got everything.

2.) Rarer by the month, season is only 3 weeks old! As good a player he is technically, when he is marked out of a game he does get lost.

3.) 28 Aug 2014 14:14:04
I think the trouble with coutino is the premiership is too fast for him but will play well in the champions league as it's a slower pace. His performances preseason were outstanding as he was allowed more time on the ball.

4.) 28 Aug 2014 14:23:15

I agree with you mate, Texiera has atelast 10 good years ahead of him. We shouldn't sacrifice success over anything.
Let him score atleast 10-15 goals in a loan spell. We would be a fool not to play him next season.

5.) Strange logic that Adam. While I think Teixeira is a very good young player, he is not a better player than Coutinho.

More chance of Teixeira leaving than Coutinho leaving I think, unless of course, we want to sell Coutinho.

6.) Stuie I know that but he's been here nearly two years now. He got 3 goals and 7 assists in less than half a season and then in the next he got just 5 goals and 6 assists in an entire season. His performances are gradually getting worse and worse and his shooting is showing no improvement. I really hoped he could kick on after his game against Dortmund. But he's followed it up with two games in which he may as well have not been on the pitch. We can't carry inconsistent players like that. 1 good game every month is not good enough in my opinion. I think that is why Rodgers signed Lallana. I'd have given Coutinho another season myself conpeting with Teixeira. Rodgers obviously isn't willing to take that gamble. I think he's been told he needs to win silver ware this season or lose his job. That is the only reason I can think of that would make Rodgers completely drop trusting in academy graduates to go and sign proven players (still young, just with more first team experience).

Thanks for clearing that up Ed.

Click To View This Thread

Will the committee set up also be scrapped ED? Those two players mentioned were never going to fit in the system BR prefers and they aren't the only ones. Money down the drain.

{Ed002's Note - You will need to wait and see what the way forward is/ Critical right now is an evaluation and the formulation of a plan.}

Click To View This Thread

As frustrating as Balotelli has been he would be better with a striker alongside him. Borini might not be everyone's cup of tea but he is what we have available right now. It frustrates me to see how stubborn BR can be at times, alienating players benefits no one.

Click To View This Thread

I thought as much Ed. A big gamble so I can see why Brendan isn't so keen on Mario but now he has to deal with it. Well he and Dr Peters I suppose.

Click To View This Thread

Mignolet is a good keeper no doubt but early into last season it was apparent that he wasn't particularly comfortable with the ball at his feet nor with his distribution.

Back then it seemed odd that Brendan would buy a keeper who didn't fit the way his team plays from the back and with the rumours going around some have mentioned that he (and even Sakho) may have been committee signings.

Personally I like Simon, a great shot stopper, has age on his side but maybe that works against him too seeing as he doesn't command his area that well. His distribution though annoys me constantly. I doubt he will be sold this window. Last season he was a positive upgrade on Reina and this upcoming season he could be better - there's room for improvement.

To me he is an accident waiting to happen. He must be confident in himself on the ball but looks very ungainly at times.

Click To View This Thread

Ed, do you think Brendan deserves another season?

I've read comments over the past day or two and the calls for Rogers to go are growing. But reading the names suggested to replace him and then thinking of how these managers may want to make their own changes (players and backroom personnel) I am not too keen on the idea of another rebuilding process or period of transition which we never seem to get out of. Maybe the better option would be for Brendan to accept he may need some support on the football side and for him to be given another season with this team he has helped put together. If he is willing to accept changes must be made on and off the pitch I would rather give him another shot.

{Ed002's Note - I suspect that Mr Rodgers will not be at Liverpool next season. The targets have been clear, the investment made, the promises given. The owners care for the club and Rodgers is simply transient flotsam - if he is not helping the cause then he needs to be moved on. It is no different than a worm eating in to an apple and causing it to rot and decay - you simply take a sharp knife an cut it out.}

The confidence has gone. I would think Brendan will have until January to turn things round.

The groan around Anfield was telling when those two substitutions were made.
